AUDIO: Conservative Radio Legend Goes Berserk After Trump Victory Posted: 05 May 2016 08:30 PM PDT Talk radio legend Mark Levin went off on Fox News just hours before Donald Trump declared victory. As Breitbart reports: Talk radio host Mark Levin, who has endorsed Republican presidential candidate Texas Senator Ted Cruz, blasted the Fox News Channel as "not a news channel" and a "Donald Trump super PAC" that will be "rubbing their own faces in their own feces" after the GOP gets "our a**es kicked in the general election" on Tuesday. Levin began by saying to the Fox News Channel, "You're not a news channel anymore. You're the Fox Channel." He then turned to that day's tiff between Trump and Cruz, and criticized the FNC program "Outnumbered" for not giving the context of the fight between the two, that Trump had accused Cruz's father of being linked to JFK assassin Lee Harvey Oswald. He further said that, according to a friend of his who contacted him, another program, "The Five," didn't bring up Trump's Oswald-Rafael Cruz theory until over 20 minutes past the hour. Levin continued, "Donald Trump is bringing up a National Enquirer story that accuses Ted Cruz's father, Rafael Cruz, of being in cahoots, in one way or another, with Lee Harvey Oswald." Levin further stated that, according to his source, "several of the people on 'The Five' thought this was hilarious. As a matter of fact, they were defending the National Enquirer. … That's why it's not the Fox News Channel, it's the Fox Channel, and the Donald Trump super PAC." Here's the problem. Months ago, Levin heaped praise on Donald Trump, maintaining a tone of neutrality throughout the campaign until it was clear that Trump would be the nominee. For this, Levin was subject to heavy ridicule from conservatives who opposed Trump, but he continued to maintain an air of positivity towards the man he now says is going to destroy the GOP, perhaps pandering to his audience. It was only after Trump surrogate Roger Stone attacked Levin personally that the talk radio host decided to join the #NeverTrump campaign. This begs the question: if Levin truly believes Donald Trump is such an existential threat to the GOP, why didn't he use the considerable resources at his disposal to warn voters earlier? Comcast “Cares” On Twitter. What Could Possibly Go Wrong? Posted: 05 May 2016 07:30 PM PDT If there is one lesson that large corporations really, really need to take to heart about the 21st century, it is this: unless you are universally beloved (and maybe even then), probably don't self-promote with Twitter hashtags. It will not end well for you. And who would be the latest business to fall for this trap? It's Comcast, the cable company America loves to hate. Like many other large corporations and conglomerates, Comcast participates in corporate philanthropy. Among their outreach efforts is an annual volunteer day, where Comcast and NBCUniversal employees don branded t-shirts and go serve meals, clean playgrounds, paint schools, and do a thousand other small good-works projects in targeted areas around the nation. Corporate volunteer events are fairly common, and they're usually a good way both to generate some positive PR for the business as well as to get some local projects completed with a small army of free labor — a win/win. And of course, in 2016, how else quickly to push images, video, and short statements but on social media? And naturally organizers unify the social media presence with a hashtag… something quick and easily searchable, like #ComcastCaresDay. More |
Half of Immigrant-led Households Skirt Welfare Rules Posted: 05 May 2016 07:00 PM PDT Immigrants are supposed to be beneficial to the U.S. — so much so that federal law requires them to prove they won't end up on the public dole if they are legally admitted. But it's a stricture honored more in the breach than in compliance, according to statistics obtained by the Federation for American Immigration Reform, which found that of the millions of legal immigrants living in the U.S. and collecting welfare or other public benefits, only a single person was kicked out of the country over the last three years for becoming a public burden. That seems to fly in the face of federal policies that, dating back to the very first broad immigration law in the 1880s, have demanded that immigrants prove they will be able to support themselves. New immigrants can be denied if they can't show their financial means, and those already in the country can be deported if they fail to live up to the bargain — but that hardly ever happens, according to FAIR's data. The group had asked the Executive Office for Immigration Review, which hears the cases, for data on five countries: Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Cuba and Colombia. EOIR said it found just three cases brought between 2013 and 2015, all of them against Mexicans, and only one of those charges was sustained. More here |

Is Ben Carson on the Fast Track to the White House? Posted: 05 May 2016 06:00 PM PDT This is interesting. In 2000, George W Bush named Dick Cheney as head of his VP selection committee. Cheney selected himself. It also makes sense for Trump strategically. Carson's popularity with social conservatives could help Trump gain the support of Cruz voters he may have alienated over the last two months, and Carson's standing in the black community could help Trump make inroads into one of Hillary's strongest constituent groups. Philly Mayor Rejects Obama’s Request to End ‘Sanctuary’ Status for Immigrants Posted: 05 May 2016 05:30 PM PDT The city of Philadelphia, which will host the Democratic National Convention in July, rebuffed a request from the Obama administration Tuesday to end its status as a "sanctuary city" for illegal immigrants. Mayor Jim Kenney rejected the appeal by Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, who said the move would aid public safety. After their meeting at city hall, the mayor said in a statement that he "stressed the need for federal immigration reform." He said he's committed to preventing immigrants from being unduly targeted by law enforcement in Philadelphia. Mr. Johnson told reporters later that he had a "good dialogue" with Mr. Kenney. RNC Chairman: ‘It’s Time to Unite.' Posted: 05 May 2016 05:00 PM PDT Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said Wednesday it's now time for the GOP to unite, saying it's "pretty obvious" that likely nominee Donald Trump will win the delegates necessary to clinch the party's presidential nomination. Mr. Priebus said Mr. Trump still has to get to 1,237 delegates to be the nominee, but that it's "pretty obvious" he'll get there with Sen. Ted Cruz's exit from the race. Mr. Cruz announced Tuesday he was suspending his campaign after Mr. Trump rolled to a big win in Indiana, and Mr. Priebus said on Twitter Tuesday evening that Mr. Trump will be the "presumptive" GOP nominee. Ohio Gov. John Kasich's campaign said Tuesday that the governor will stay in the race, and Mr. Priebus said he would leave that up to Mr. Kasich. More |
Iranian Threatens to Close Strait of Hormuz to US Posted: 05 May 2016 04:30 PM PDT TEHRAN, Iran — The deputy commander of Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guard said Iranian forces will close the strategic Strait of Hormuz to the United States and its allies if they "threaten" the Islamic Republic, Iranian state media reported on Wednesday. The comments by Gen. Hossein Salami, carried on state television, follow a long history of both rhetoric and confrontation between Iran and the US over the narrow strait, through which nearly a third of all oil traded by sea passes. The remarks by the acting commander of the Guard also follow those of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who on Monday criticized US activities in the Persian Gulf. It's unclear whether that signals any new Iranian concern over the strait or possible confrontation with the US following its nuclear deal with world powers. More |
Bernstein: There Will Be ‘Very Damaging’ Leaks From Hillary Email Investigation Posted: 05 May 2016 04:00 PM PDT On Wednesday's "CNN Tonight," Journalist and author Carl Bernstein stated that there would be "very damaging" leaks from the investigation into Democratic presidential candidate former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's email, and described her conduct as "what she did was an act of recklessness, and entitlement, that there's no excuse for." Bernstein began by stating that in the general election "all bets are off," including the usual GOP-Dem breakdown as an important factor, celebrity might be more important than ideology, and "TMZ, Drudge, new media, [are] going to have a huge role in this, much more than the usual, fact-based media." State Dept. Admits Withholding Key Benghazi Email Posted: 05 May 2016 03:30 PM PDT The State Department admitted last week that it had withheld a key email from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on the 2012 Benghazi attacks for more than a year in the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit brought by Judicial Watch, President Tom Fitton said Tuesday. "Had the department disclosed the email when first supposedly found, Clinton's email server and her hidden emails would have been revealed before she authorized the alleged deletion of tens of thousands of emails," Fitton wrote in an op-ed on Brietbart News. The State Department disclosed in a letter to U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lamberth that was released last week that it had found the 2012 email in 2014 but withheld it. "Also, upon further review, the department has determined that one document previously withheld in full in our letter dated November 12, 2014, may now be released in part," the State Department told the court in an April 18, 2016 letter. However, the November 2014, letter does not discuss any withheld emails, Fitton said. "A search declaration suggests the hidden email was found in September 2014 as a result of a search in response to Judicial Watch's lawsuit," he said. "The result of all this is that we now know that the Obama administration consciously refused to give up key information about Hillary Clinton's email in 2014," Fitton concluded. "It covered up this email both from the court and Judicial Watch." More |
Subject: CDC: Americans Over-medicating Preschoolers With ADHD Posted: 05 May 2016 03:00 PM PDT Too many preschoolers with ADHD still are being put on drugs right away, before behavior therapy is tried, health officials say. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Tuesday that three in four young kids diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are put on medicines. New CDC data shows that's continued, even after research found behavior therapy is as effective and doesn't give children stomach aches, sleep problems or other drug side effects. Why? Health insurance coverage for behavior therapy may vary from state to state and company to company. And in some areas, therapists are in short supply, some experts said. More here [An additional factor-- some schools have insisted that parents medicate their child, under threat of expulsion. That can certainly limit the options. --Editor] |
Trump Praises Cruz's Courage: 'Smart Guy' Posted: 05 May 2016 02:30 PM PDT Donald Trump Tuesday praised Ted Cruz as a "smart guy" after the Texas senator quit the Republican presidential race in light to the developer's landslide victory in the Indiana primary. "I have met some of the most incredible competitors that I have ever competed against right here in the Republican Party," Trump said to cheering supporters at his victory speech at Trump Tower in New York City. "We started off with 17 — and just so you understand, Ted Cruz, I don't know if he likes me or if he doesn't like me, but he is one hell of a competitor. "He is a tough, smart guy," Trump continued. Hillary Clinton May Be Ordered to Testify on Private Email Server Posted: 05 May 2016 02:00 PM PDT A federal judge says he may order Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton to testify under oath about whether she used a private email server as secretary of state to evade public records disclosures. U.S. District Court Judge Emmet G. Sullivan on Wednesday signed an order granting a request from the conservative legal advocacy group Judicial Watch to question six current and former State Department staffers. The list includes some of Clinton's closest aides from her tenure as the nation's top diplomat. More |
Israeli Planes Strike Hamas Targets in Gaza After Mortar Attacks Posted: 05 May 2016 01:30 PM PDT Israel launched air raids Wednesday on the Gaza Strip after a day of mortar attacks by targeted IDF forces on the Israeli side of the border. Air strikes hit around Gaza's derelict international airport near the southern city of Rafah and in nearby farming areas, said the territory's Hamas-run Interior Ministry. Security sources in Gaza said the jets fired two missiles at the airport but said no one was hurt in the strikes. Israel's army said its warplanes had hit five sites operated by Hamas. "The (IDF) will continue to operate in order to protect the civilians of Israel from all Hamas terrorist threats above and beneath ground," spokesman Peter Lerner said via Twitter. The raids followed a bout of violence on the Gaza-Israel border Wednesday, with exchanges of fire that put a 2014 ceasefire agreement to the test. Israeli tanks fired in response to mortar attacks at least twice, while the army designated an Israeli border town a closed military zone. A military official said up to five mortar shells in total were fired at Israeli territory on Wednesday, while forces were fired upon near the small border community of Nahal Oz. More |

US Government: North Carolina LGBT Law Violates Civil Rights Posted: 05 May 2016 01:00 PM PDT RALEIGH, N.C. – A North Carolina law limiting protections to LGBT people violates federal civil rights protections and can't be enforced, The U.S. Justice Department said Wednesday. The Justice Department's intervention puts the state in danger of losing hundreds of millions of dollars in federal school funding. In a letter to Gov. Pat McCrory, the Justice Department put the state on notice that federal officials view the state law as violating federal Civil Rights Act protections barring workplace discrimination based on sex. Provisions of the state law directed at transgender state employees violate their anti-discrimination protections, the letter said. McCrory has defended the state law, which limits legal protections to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. It also requires transgender people to use public bathrooms that conform to the sex on their birth certificate. "The State is engaging in a pattern or practice of discrimination against transgender state employees and both you, in your official capacity, and the state are engaging in a pattern or practice of resistance" of their rights, the letter said. Posted: 05 May 2016 12:30 PM PDT There has been some chatter in recent weeks that Hillary Clinton isn't actually the Democratic Party's intended 2016 nominee. That chatter was amplified last week when the ever-inebriated former House Speaker John Boehner, the quintessential "establishment Republican," endorsed Donald Trump while maligning Trump's conservative opponent, Ted Cruz. (No small irony that Boehner's abject failure as speaker has largely fueled Trump's populist appeal.) Amid the fratricidal mayhem, you may have missed this Boehner prediction: "Don't be shocked if two weeks before the convention, here comes Joe Biden parachuting in and Barack Obama fanning the flames to make it all happen." For the record, I don't think Biden is the intended nominee, but I do believe he — not Sanders — is the default candidate in the event that Clinton is indicted on felony charges. The calculus that this indictment is coming may mean that she is already presumed to be a mere placeholder for Biden — unless, of course, Bernie Sanders continues to flank that strategy. Let's hope he does! In a profile on Warren two years ago, I noted that a Clinton indictment "would open the door for Warren or Biden, or perhaps a Biden-Warren ticket." Indeed, Joe Biden is an affable candidate who has none of Clinton's negatives, and Warren is the ideological heir apparent for Obama's "Imperial Presidency." Like Obama, she is a certifiable socialist — a rising star among the statists who have infested the once-noble Democrat Party. Keep reading.. |
Romanian hacker Guccifer: I breached Clinton server, 'it was easy' Posted: 05 May 2016 12:00 PM PDT EXCLUSIVE: The infamous Romanian hacker known as "Guccifer," speaking exclusively with Fox News, claimed he easily – and repeatedly – breached former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's personal email server in early 2013. "For me, it was easy ... easy for me, for everybody," Marcel Lehel Lazar, who goes by the moniker "Guccifer," told Fox News from a Virginia jail where he is being held. Guccifer's potential role in the Clinton email investigation was first reported by Fox News last month. The hacker subsequently claimed he was able to access the server – and provided extensive details about how he did it and what he found – over the course of a half-hour jailhouse interview and a series of recorded phone calls with Fox News. Fox News could not independently confirm Lazar's claims. More |
New federal rule would permit thousands of eagle deaths Posted: 05 May 2016 11:30 AM PDT WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration is revising a federal rule that allows wind-energy companies to operate high-speed turbines for up to 30 years, even if means killing or injuring thousands of federally protected bald and golden eagles. Under the plan announced Wednesday, wind companies and other power providers could kill or injure up to 4,200 bald eagles a year without penalty — nearly four times the current limit. Golden eagles could only be killed if companies take steps to minimize the losses, for instance, by retrofitting power poles to reduce the risk of electrocution. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe said the proposal will "provide a path forward" for maintaining eagle populations while also spurring development of a pollution-free energy source that's intended to ease global warming, a cornerstone of President Barack Obama's energy plan. Ashe said the 162-page proposal would protect eagles and at the same time "help the country reduce its reliance on fossil fuels" such as coal and oil that contribute to global warming. More |

WICOMICO COUNTY HEROIN DEALER CONVICTED Posted: 05 May 2016 11:11 AM PDT WICOMICO HEROIN DEALER CONVICTED OF MULTIPLE FIREARM AND DRUG FELONIES On May 3, 2016, a Wicomico County jury convicted Jermaine Peters, age 34, of Wicomico County, Maryland, of possession with intent to distribute a large amount of heroin, being a felon in possession of regulated firearms, possession of a regulated firearm during a drug trafficking crime and numerous other related offenses. The events at issue stem from a Search and Seizure warrant which was executed on October 13, 2015, at 1402 Chateau Drive, Salisbury, Maryland. When officers arrived at 1402 Chateau Drive to execute the warrant, Peters was located on the back porch and a female was located in living room of the home. As officers searched a dresser in the master bedroom of the home they located two stolen handguns which were loaded with ammunition, numerous gun magazines containing live ammunition and several boxes with additional live ammunition. In the master bedroom closet, officers located a rifle and a shoe box which contained a large amount of U.S. currency. The total amount of U.S. currency recovered from the home and Peter's person was $118,667.26. Officers also located over one kilogram of heroin in a nightstand located in the master bathroom. The street value of the heroin was estimated to be over $700,000.00. Peters has multiple prior convictions including felony drug and firearms convictions. Sentencing in this case was deferred to allow for a pre-sentencing investigation to be completed. Peter's potential total sentence on the offenses for which he was convicted is one hundred twenty-one years with at least twenty years of that time being mandatory, non-parole eligible time. Wicomico County State's Attorney Matthew A. Maciarello commended the Wicomico County Narcotics Task Force and the Maryland State Police Gang Enforcement Unit for their work in the investigation and prosecution of this case. Mr. Maciarello also thanked Patrizia J. Coletta who prosecuted Peters. Howard County sheriff improperly used tax dollars, audit finds Posted: 05 May 2016 11:00 AM PDT ELLICOTT CITY, Md. —An audit has found that Howard County Sheriff Jim Fitzgerald improperly used tax dollars, and the county is taking an unusual step to recoup the money, the 11 News I-Team has learned. A county audit found that Fitzgerald used tax dollars to pay five employees of his office to work on his 2014 re-election campaign. "I met with the sheriff to discuss his budget for this year. I explained to him that 'I don't have control over your office. You are a separately elected official, but I believe I owe it to the citizens of Howard County that we reduce your budget that we planned to put in by $7,100,'" Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman said. The 11 News I-Team learned that the State Prosecutor's Office is seeking information from the county auditor. "Clearly, they were taking the time that is supposed to be used for union activities to campaign both in the primary and general election. That was determined not to be appropriate," Kittleman said. Hometown Hero Banner Program On Boardwalk Expands To Include World War II Vets Posted: 05 May 2016 09:53 AM PDT OCEAN CITY — Weather permitting, an expanded Hometown Heroes military banner program including for the first time this year living World War II veterans from in and around the resort area will be officially dedicated with a special ceremony at the Fireman's Memorial on the Boardwalk at North Division Street on Thursday. In 2014, the Ocean City Elks Lodge 2645 launched the first Hometown Heroes military banner program honoring active members of the armed forces from the resort area serving in various branches and in various areas around the world. For the last two years, the popular banners have returned each May and proudly display pictures of active servicemen and women throughout the summer and into the early fall. The banners are affixed to brackets attached to light poles along the concrete section of the Boardwalk from 4th Street south. This year, however, the Ocean City Elks Lodge has expanded the program to include living World War II veterans from the resort area and throughout Worcester County. More |
Justice Department program to no longer use ‘disparaging’ terms ‘felons’ and ‘convicts’ Posted: 05 May 2016 09:45 AM PDT The Justice Department's Office of Justice Programs is eschewing the terms "felon" and "convict" when officials refer to individuals convicted of crimes, opting instead for less "disparaging labels," Assistant Attorney General Karol Mason announced Wednesday. The Office of Justice Programs plans to substitute terminology such as "person who committed a crime" and "individual who was incarcerated" in speeches and other communications as part of an effort to remove barriers that officials say hinder progress of those who re-enter society after completing their prison sentences. "I have come to believe that we have a responsibility to reduce not only the physical but also the psychological barriers to reintegration," Ms. Mason wrote Wednesday in a guest post for The Washington Post. "The labels we affix to those who have served time can drain their sense of self-worth and perpetuate a cycle of crime, the very thing reentry programs are designed to prevent." More |
Md. police mum on growing use of cellphone tracking technology Posted: 05 May 2016 09:37 AM PDT BALTIMORE — Police were waiting for Deon Batty when he stepped off a Baltimore City bus traveling along a commercial strip near the public Douglass Homes on Valentine's Day three years ago. When authorities asked Batty to empty his pockets, he pulled out a cellphone and handed it over. An officer dialed the number of a 77-year-old woman who had been robbed of her phone and other items at gunpoint the night before. The phone in the officer's hand rang. The seamless chain of events baffled Batty's public defender, Janine Meckler. How did police know he was on that particular bus? Why had they stopped him without a warrant? How did they know he had the woman's phone? More |
Senator Intercedes In Ocean City Flood Insurance Map Snafu Posted: 05 May 2016 09:30 AM PDT OCEAN CITY — Just one week after Ocean City officials learned an apparent error in federal flood zone mapping has left some oceanfront property owners facing hundreds of thousands of dollars in flood insurance premiums, State Senator Jim Mathias (D-38) has reached out to the state's congressional leaders to intercede on the resort's behalf. Last July, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) issued new flood insurance rate maps for the Town of Ocean City that recognized the value of the dune system constructed by the Army Corps of Engineers as part of the ongoing beach replenishment project by locating the VE Flood Zone, or the most onerous flood insurance rate designation, "seaward of the landward toe of the primary frontal dune system." In simpler terms, FEMA concluded the eastern edge of the long-established dune line should be the line of demarcation of sorts for the higher flood insurance rates and any properties west of the primary dune would fall into a lesser flood zone designation. However, in a few areas of the resort, particularly along condo row from 93rd to 123rd streets, FEMA has determined through its new maps an existing secondary dune, built in front of several oceanfront properties in the early 1980s is now the standard by which the VE Flood Zone is determined. As early as 1983, the town mandated certain new oceanfront projects construct a dune in front of the properties to protect them somewhat from storms, coastal flooding and beach erosion. More |
Baltimore Misses Police Body Camera Deadline Posted: 05 May 2016 09:23 AM PDT Baltimore this week blew through its deadline to begin deployment of police body cameras. The cameras, as announced in March, were supposed to be deployed starting Sunday. But Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said Wednesday that instead, the cameras provided by Taser International will arrive this week, with the first 60 officers to be trained on May 23. When they are deployed, Rawlings-Blake said, the plan is still to deploy them to all nine districts and all officers at the same time. Originally, the plan was to deploy the body cameras in five installments of 500 each, ending in January 2018. Rawlings-Blake offered no apology or explanation on the reason for the delay. More |

An investigation conducted by the Salisbury Police Department revealed that just after midnight on Aug 2, 2015, three other codefendants, Larry Ennis, Kyshir Connally, and Marquel Pinder were at an under 21 party at America's Best Value Inn. At the party, Ennis, Connally, and Pinder got into a verbal altercation with another group and were asked to leave. Upon leaving the party, a phone call was made to Jarrett Stokes, and the group met at IHOP. The group, including Ennis, Connally, Pinder, and Stokes then headed back to America's Best Value Inn to confront the group from earlier. They parked across from the hotel and Ennis, Connally, and Stokes searched the crowd for the individual Ennis and Connally had been previously fighting. After surveying the crowd for approximately ten minutes, Stokes shot four rounds into the crowd of 75 to 100 individuals. One of those rounds struck and killed a 17 year old boy who was standing in the crowd. On May 5, 2016, Stokes was sentenced by a Circuit Court Judge to life in prison on Murder 1st Degree, plus an additional 20 years on Handgun Use in a Felony and 3 years on Reckless Endangerment. Wicomico County State's Attorney, Matthew A. Maciarello, commended the Salisbury City Police Department, Det. J. Miller and Det. Ryan Brittingham, for their work in the investigation and prosecution of this case. Mr. Maciarello also thanked Senior Assistant State's Attorney Kristen Schultz and Senior Assistant State's Attorney Karen Dean who prosecuted the case. |

Will Donald Trump impact down-ticket races in Maryland? Posted: 05 May 2016 09:07 AM PDT BALTIMORE —Donald Trump as the presumptive nominee for president presents a fork in the road for other Republican candidates in Maryland. The name at the top of the ticket does matter in a presidential election cycle as GOP candidates for office must consider whether they embrace Trump or distance themselves from him. Republicans, like U.S. Senate candidate Kathy Szeliga, are outnumbered 2-1 in the very blue state of Maryland. Going into the general election, Maryland Republicans need Independents to win. "They can either embrace Donald Trump as part of their narrative, as their guy, as their nominee, or they really try to re-center their attention on just their districts, just the state, and really try to run a localized campaign and take Washington, D.C., politics out of it," Goucher College pollster Mileah Kromer said. Kromer said for Democrats, like Szeliga's opponent Rep. Chris Van Hollen, it is also decision time on a Trump strategy. More |

Americans' shifting drinking habits could change happy hour as we know it Posted: 05 May 2016 07:30 AM PDT In 2016, Americans are drinking at home more than ever, thanks to new technology and a thirst for budget-friendly options. While that's bad news for the bar business, other companies are more than happy to cash in. Americans' favorite place to drink wine is in the comfort of their own homes, according to a recent survey from wine app Vivino. Forty-seven percent of millennial and 61% of Gen X and Boomer respondents would rather drink wine at home than at social gatherings, restaurants, or wineries, according to the survey of 1,526 US consumers. Younger wine lovers' preference for drinking at home came as somewhat of a surprise to Vivino. "One of the theories we had is maybe millennials just like to be at home," Vivino founder Heini Zachariassen told Business Insider. "It could also be ... they are being price conscious." More |
Hillary Clinton Weaponizing Anti-Trump Conservatives Posted: 05 May 2016 07:20 AM PDT Hillary Clinton and her team have begun exploiting the #NeverTrump conservatives who loudly protested Donald Trump as the Republican nominee, now that his strongest rival, Ted Cruz, has exited the presidential primary race. "Many prominent activists, journalists and elected officials in his own party have figured out what Hillary Clinton has argued all along: Donald Trump is too big a risk for America," the email read. "Take a look at the large group of prominent conservatives who are already promising that they'll never vote for Trump," said the email. Here is the list of anti-Trump conservatives sent by the campaign: Rep. Scott Rigell [R-VA]: "My love for our country eclipses my loyalty to our party, and to live with a clear conscience I will not support a nominee so lacking in the judgment, temperament and character needed to be our nation's commander-in-chief. Accordingly, if left with no alternative, I will not support Trump in the general election should he become our Republican nominee." More |
Heroin epidemic widespread across Maryland Posted: 05 May 2016 06:53 AM PDT BEL AIR, Md. —The spreading heroin problem is being described as cheap, powerful and plentiful, and it's probably in your backyard. Pictures from security cameras taken last summer near a methadone clinic in Baltimore show an apparent open-air market for prescription painkillers. Cash and pills exchange hands in the middle of the day around a busy bus stop. The pictures put the country's opioid addiction crisis in full view, and today's pill abuser is likely tomorrow's heroin user. "(I) started using prescription pills, which led to heroin, which, you know, put me where I am at now," said a woman who asked the I-Team to identify her as Tiffany. More |
Posted: 05 May 2016 06:45 AM PDT Ad-buying firm Magna Global has just shifted $200 million of the clients' money it usually reserves for TV ads over to YouTube, The Wall Street Journal first reported. Known as an "upfront" deal, in total, Magna Global has committed to spending $250 million on YouTube ads over the next five quarters as part of a three-year partnership, the media buying company confirmed with Business Insider. The first year of the agreement represents the "largest Google Preferred deal ever signed," Magna Global said in a statement.Google Preferred launched in 2014 and allows advertisers to reserve advertising spots from among the top 5% of YouTube's most popular channels. Magna Global is responsible for around $37 billion in marketing investment, which it manages on behalf of clients including Johnson & Johnson, Coca-Cola, Sony, and CVS. More |
Ocean Downs Casino, Union Employees Reach New Agreement Posted: 05 May 2016 06:37 AM PDT OCEAN CITY – The six-month contract dispute between the Casino at Ocean Downs and almost 100 union employees has finally come to an end. After several recent weeks of stalemate both sides met at the bargaining table, struck a compromise and thusly ratified a new collective bargaining agreement that runs until October 2017. "This deal is a solid step forward for Ocean Downs employees," said Mishy Leiblum, head organizer for Unite Here Local 7. "This was the first time the employees at Ocean Downs ever formed picket lines or handed out leaflets. I know the employees are pleased with the results." Leiblum believes the increased picketing and petitioning at Ocean Downs in the past few weeks was vital in getting casino officials to agree to a return to the bargaining table, after they had drawn a proverbial line in the sand with a proclaimed "final offer," which the union overwhelmingly rejected by a 91% margin, back in March. 'A disaster from the beginning': How the 'Stop Trump' movement failed Posted: 05 May 2016 06:30 AM PDT (Reuters) - Republican John Hammond III had made no secret of his distaste for DonaldTrump and his desire to halt his march to the party's presidential nomination, telling the Indianapolis Star newspaper in March that the mogul was "unfit" to lead the country. But the Republican National Committee member, a partner at law firm Ice Miller, said no anti-Trump group ever reached out to him, nor did he see any evidence that such groups were in the state until just a few days before voting in Indiana's primary election. By the time some direct mail and TV ads popped up, it was "too late" to make a difference, he said. "There was never really any early 'Stop Trump' effort in Indiana," he told Reuters. Trump became the Republican party's presumptive nominee on Tuesday with his resounding win in Indiana's primary, which led his main rival U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas to drop out and heaped pressure on distant third-place contender John Kasich, the Ohio governor, to do the same. In the process, Trump dealt a seemingly fatal blow to the high-profile effort known as "StopTrump" or "Never Trump" launched by conservative Republicans. More |

'El Chapo' Guzmán had more airplanes than the biggest airline in Mexico Posted: 05 May 2016 06:15 AM PDT Before he was recaptured in January, Sinaloa cartel kingpin JoaquÃn "El Chapo" Guzmán ran the largest air operations in Mexico. Between 2006 and 2015, Mexican authorities seized 599 aircraft — 586 planes and 13 helicopters — that the cartel used to ship drugs throughout Mexico and Latin America, according to information from the Mexican defense ministry (Sedena)obtained by Mexican newspaper El Universal. The largest legitimate airline in the country, Aeroméxico, has 127 planes. If Guzmán's cartel were a legal business, El Universal notes, it would likely be one of the most successful in the country, based on its 4,771 clandestine landing strips — between 550 yards and 1,100 yards in length — dotting Mexico's northern states. "I supply more heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana than anybody else in the world," Guzmán said in a Rolling Stone interview published in January. More |
Caitlyn Jenner to Pose Nude With American Flag Posted: 05 May 2016 06:07 AM PDT Is this what the American flag was intended for? According to an Us Weekly source, Caitlyn Jenner, the 66-year-old former Olympic superstar (who went by Bruce Jenner then) will pose naked for Sports Illustrated wearing nothing but the American flag and a gold medal. It'll be published in the iconic magazine at some point before this year's Olympics in Brazil. The cover is supposed to commemorate the 40th anniversary of her win at the 1976 games in Montreal, Canada. The question many will have (and it's very fair) is this: why does it have to be naked? Considering who Jenner is affiliated with — the attention-seeking Kardashian clan, who've made a fortune corralling eyeballs through selfies, clothes, drama and pornography — it's probably a dumb question. But, puzzling and perhaps disturbing nonetheless. More |
IBM just beat Google to a brand new type of computing Posted: 05 May 2016 06:00 AM PDT On Wednesday, IBM scientists will make a quantum computer available to the public as a cloud service for the first time. Though the cloud service is geared mostly toward scientists and students, anyone interested in this strange new computer will be able to give it a try, Jerry Chow, one of the scientists leading the project, tells Business Insider. A different kind of computer A quantum computer is different from today's digital computer. A digital computer thinks in two states: zero and one (or off and on). A quantum computer uses "combinations of zeroes and ones" to creates multiple states. It can be a zero, a one, both at the same time, something in between them, or it can be a mysterious zero/one state that you can't really determine, Chow says. These messy states are called "entanglement," and there are some well-known algorithms, or mathematical formulas, that use them, Chow tells us. Because quantum computers think differently, they can quickly solve tasks that regular computers can't do, such as working with billions of variables at the same time, like the interaction between molecules in chemistry. Donald Trump Has Done Something No Other Human Being Has Ever Been Able To Do Before Posted: 05 May 2016 02:32 AM PDT When I ran for Mayor a few years ago, the press wanted nothing to do with me. The local Republican Club refused to allow me to speak to fellow republicans. Every single Forum I attended, the questions they were going to ask were hand fed to my opponent in advance. They had "plant" people in the audience to ask questions that were LIES like, "you wrote that when you were elected you are going to close the Salisbury Zoo". I never wrote any such thing and my answer was, "My Wife worked for the Zoo for 18 years and hand raised most of the animals you see in the Zoo. If I even mentioned I'd be closing the Zoo she'd kill me". So you see, even at a local level, running for office is a difficult thing to do, especially when your own alleged party refuses to work with you. Now comes Donald Trump. His own party has refused to show any kind of support. FOX News, (an alleged ally) have attacked him in every possible way. The rest of the media have attacked him and those stations have run tens of millions of dollars worth of negative ads against this man and guess what, all of it has failed. Now, (after everyone recently dropped out) the media is saying it's time to regroup and figure out what we're going to do next. What's most interesting about Donald Trump is that he is not a politician and certainly not a professional career politician. THIS SCARES THE HELL OUT OF WASHINGTON D.C.. A President who doesn't kiss up to Congress? A President who refuses to play politics and only has the will of the people, (business) at heart? WHAT WILL ALL THESE CROOKED POLITICIANS DO NOW? Quite frankly my dear, I don't give a damn. The Main Stream Media has had a partnership with these politicians for decades. They have kept stories quiet and in today's world they now only publish, (for the most part) what they are hand fed, especially on a local level. When it comes to campaigns, BILLIONS of dollars are fed to these newspapers and TV news stations. The more you feed them, the more air time you mysteriously get. The Hogan/Brown race was a prime example. Brown would get 10 minutes air time while Hogan got 15 seconds. That being said, Maryland will play a HUGE role in this Presidential Election. Being a democrat state, Hogan won by a HUGE margin because people were sick and tired of the tax and spend democrats. The same will happen in this Presidential Election. However, that also means many other states will follow. What we have seen so far are only primary results. Meaning, democrats can only vote for democrats and republicans can only vote for republicans. However, when we get to the general elections, most of those democrats will be crossing party lines and voting for Trump and don't you dare tell me I am wrong. I have spoken to many democrats who absolutely refuse to vote for Hillary but more importantly, (like you) I have watched the Main Stream Media LIE to our faces every single day. I have watched them shove lying polls down our throats several times a day saying it is impossible for Trump to win. They have LIED so bad that right now every single one of you should never trust a word they say and STOP being brainwashed by their false information. Americans have had enough and this is the time to walk away from the Main Stream Media, they have right now proven they are liars. This is no miracle. Donald Trump is no Messiah. He's just a man who, (thank God) has had and seen enough. We are ALL fortunate this man has chosen to lead us back in the right direction. Is the man perfect, NO. Then again, is Hillary??? Hillary Clinton will lose miserable against Donald Trump, UNLESS THEY RIG THE ELECTION. We, (as Americans) need to join the "Trump Revolution", (as the Washington Post calls it) and overwhelmingly prove that we will NOT allow them to RIG this election. Very few people believe Obama actually won the first go around and definitely not the second go around. So Americans need to come together across the entire country and show massive support for this guy so they can't pull the same crooked game as the last time. Donald Trump is one man. One man cannot change the entire country alone. I firmly believe that ALL politicians currently in office are squirming like there's no tomorrow because Trump is telling them, the game is over. More people similar to Donald Trump who believe in changing our local and federal government will soon replace the career politicians and then, all of a sudden this one man movement will turn into a massive government overhaul. This scares the living crap out of politicians, lobbyists, media, corporations and other crooked foreign countries. I'm going to tell you something right now that I've not shared with you in the past. When Donald Trump came to Berlin, Maryland, did you know that NO ONE, not a Mayor, not a Councilman, not a Republican representative, NO ONE introduced Donald trump before he walked onto that stage. I say this because, guess what, Donald Trump is going to REMEMBER this. He's going to remember which politicians stood behind him and or who shied away from him. I LOVE IT! Republicans, (RINO'S?) you are now on notice. IT IS TIME TO MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. |

Most people automatically blame pollen for allergy symptoms, but many allergens that aren't very well-known could be causing you grief. Check out the list below to see if one of these uncommon allergy triggers could be the guilty culprit. Spices: According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology's (ACAAI), spice allergies account for about 2 to 3 percent of food allergies, but are probably undiagnosed. Hot, spicy seasonings, especially those used in Middle Eastern and Indian dishes are the most common offenders, and include garlic, cinnamon, paprika, cumin, saffron, coriander, mustard, caraway, fennel, poppy seeds, and dill. CDC: Americans Overmedicating Preschoolers With ADHD Posted: 05 May 2016 04:30 AM PDT Too many preschoolers with ADHD still are being put on drugs right away, before behavior therapy is tried, health officials say. On Tuesday, CDC officials doubled down on its previous recommendations, calling on doctors and families to try behavior therapy first. ADHD makes it hard for kids to pay attention and control impulsive behavior. More than 6 million U.S. children have been diagnosed with it. "By the time a parent comes to meet with me, they are tired and worried," Dr. Georgina Peacock, a CDC developmental pediatrician who works with ADHD families. "They are concerned their child might jump down a flight of stairs, that the child could get lost in a grocery store, or that the child could be kicked out of preschool." More |

Ariz. student gets felony charge for yearbook pic prank Posted: 05 May 2016 03:00 AM PDT MESA, Ariz. - An Arizona high school student was hit with dozens of criminal charges after horrified school officials discovered he had exposed his penis in a football team photo seen by thousands of students. Det. Steve Berry of the Mesa Police Department said as a result of the incident, 19-year-old Hunter Osborn has been booked for 69 counts of indecent exposure -- a class 1 misdemeanor -- and one count of furnishing harmful items to minors -- a class 4 felony, reports CBS affiliate KPHO in Phoenix. Berry said they arrived at that number of criminal charges because there were 69 students, ranging in age from 15 to 19, and 10 faculty members present when the picture was taken. If individuals in the photo are older than 18 and do not wish to press charges, the number of criminal counts could be reduced. "It is still an ongoing investigation," Berry said. "The number of charges may go up or down depending upon how the investigation continues." More |
Civil Rights Group Says Park Rangers’ Uniforms Are ‘Threatening’ to Latinos for Absurd Reason Posted: 05 May 2016 02:00 AM PDT A coalition of lawmakers and civil rights groups has a message for the National Park Service: your uniforms and vehicles are "very threatening" to Latinos. Maite Arce of the Hispanic Access Foundation delivered the "really tough" message during a press conference on Thursday: "It's such a shame that something as simple as the uniform and it's similarity to the border patrol's uniform — in the coloring — could be very threatening to certain segments of the Latino population. Giant Foods Across Md. Helping To ‘Meat The Needs’ Of The Hungry Posted: 04 May 2016 11:00 PM PDT BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Hundreds of thousands of pounds of food are wasted each year in Maryland. Expiring meats used to be tossed out, but not anymore. A major area supermarket has teamed up with food pantries to feed those in need. It's all part of Giant's "Meat the Needs' initiative. The supermarket is sending packaged meats to local food banks instead of being tossed in the trash. Feeding the fight against hunger and reducing waste across Maryland. "Instead of this product going into a landfill or being recycled through a meat rendering program, we're actually able to feed people," said Terry McGowan, director of food safety, Giant Food. Giant's Meat the Needs program diverts more than 1 million pounds of food from being wasted each year. More |

The end of the One Book, One School program at Snow Hill Elementary provided students with the chance to turn their principal into an ice cream sundae on Monday. Principal Mary Anne Cooper sat in a kiddie pool, wearing plastic coveralls and goggles, as kids took turns slathering her with ice cream and chocolate syrup in the cafeteria at the Snow Hill school. In spite of the raucous laughter and squeals of glee as Cooper was coated in dessert products, the children remained aware of why they were being treated to such a good time. "She wants us to learn fluency," one second-grader said. More |
