Posted: 04 May 2016 02:03 AM PDT Market punters that like to bet on the next takeover deal are likely to be experiencing burnt fingers for the second time in a week. That's because the outgoing chairman of SOBI, a Sweden-based rare disease drug developer, slotted 8m shares last night, suggesting the company has not been approached by buyer. Still, I guess it's quite possible a potential predator is working on a plan to pounce on SOBI, which last year held talks with Pfizer, but Bo Jesper Hansen has no idea about it... |
Is Odey still bearish or turning bullish - part 2 Posted: 04 May 2016 02:02 AM PDT Ping! An email arrives with the latest Odey Asset Management investor letter. Whilst the fund's overall performance - down about 31pc since the beginning of the year to the middle of April - made headlines a couple of weeks ago in the venerable Financial Times, I can provide a bit of colour about where the old buffer has taken a hit in his flagship Odey European Fund. Long positions in Nokia, Barclays and Sky, and short positions in Arcelor Mittal, Ashmore and LafargeHolcim were the main drags. Some of Odey's currency trades went a bit awry, too. An Aussie dollar to US dollar position contributed to an 8.1pc hit, according the March letter. Still, the pro-Brexit fund manager reiterates his financial-armegedon-round-the-corner view in his latest missive to investors. I guess he may get his wish if Britain decides to leave the European Union on June 23. Or is that just too cynical?. |
