Armchair Quarterbacks Never Win the Heisman Trophy

Posted: 15 May 2016 06:00 AM PDT

By Thornton Crowe

Two racial incidents caused a huge surge of concern in Salisbury over the last two weeks...

Once again, as predicted, the semester is now in it's exam phase, students will be leaving and Dr. Janet Dudley-Eschbach has skated through, unblemished. Unforgivably, she ignored your concerns here on Salisbury News as well as the potential escalation as a result of this race baiting tolerance policy the university has apparently adopted.

Yet, when I wrote an article about the local slumlords' financial abuse of SU students, one of her underlings wrote a long-winded apology, indicating she completely miss the article's point. With crickets over the recent incident, SU proved they're more worried about students making noise rather than any potential rise in white-black tensions in the community or on campus as a result of their mishandling.

In regards to PHS, reports indicate very few concerned parents bothered to attend last Monday's big PTA hoedown. Couldn't tear yourselves away from the idiot box long enough to voice your concern as a community over the violence in the high schools; however, you  vehemently complained about it here. Hint: The gratuitous three sheriffs seen at the school the following Monday cannot keep your kids safe when it involves a mob as seen on the posted video.

So your responses were just hot air hyperbole. Hence, this blatant apathy is probably the reason why WBOC and other media outlets don't even bother covering these stories. Why bother putting time, resources and effort into stories when the town folk don't really care about them?

You may poke fun at the Circumcision Crusaders out on Route 13 last week, but at least, they're making their voices heard. You don't have to picket to get yourselves heard but let's face it, keyboard warriors, you can't expect change when you don't bother to apply any pressure on those whom can make  change happen!

Should these racially-charged events continue or escalate, at this point, you have no one to blame but yourselves. You can't just let the world go on cruise control, complaining about it on a blog and then expect anything to change.

Therefore, while armchair quarterbacks never win a Heisman Trophy, silent wheels never get greased.

Boston (1974)
By Thornton Crowe

Back in the 1954, the Supreme Court ruled in a lawsuit where it was deemed unconstitutional to have segregated school systems that separated white and black students. In an effort to end this racial segregation policy in the spirit of Civil Rights, the courts then (twenty years later) asked for the process of integration within the student bodies to happen 'with deliberate speed.' Hence, the outcome, disastrous as it was, resulted in busing due to the fact that many communities had racially divided enclaves within them; therefore, the segregation was de facto - meaning a matter of circumstance and locale.

Busing caused many problems in the late Sixties/early Seventies; especially in cities like Boston, where the neighborhoods were divided not by race as much as ethnicity. Irish notoriously lived in South Boston while the Italians were largely in the Northern townships like Malden. During the busing era, children were send miles away from home even though there was a school right down the street, in order to make a concerted effort to desegregate the school system.

Presidents Nixon & Johnson
Unlike most urban legend, while President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act in 1964, it wasn't until President Richard Nixon (through the Supreme Court) when it was actually executed by the government. In his attempt to quill the battle cry of the movement era, he deferred the actual implementation within areas reluctant to adopt desegregation to the Supreme Court for enforcement.

Granted, before Brown v. Board of Education, the school systems were vastly different. For example, the white schools got more money and better resources from the Board of Eds in their areas than the black schools. There was a huge imbalance between the two and the quality of education was evident within the two separate systems. More whites went on to achieve higher education while blacks were prone either drop out of high school or not pursue education beyond the twelfth grade level. Hence, because blacks were less likely to pursue a collegiate path, their young men were drafted into the Vietnam War where many black communities lost a lot of them overseas.

What does that mean today?

Parkside High School (Salisbury)
This last week, a parent sent Salisbury News a disturbing video a group of black kids attacking someone at Parkside High School. One can't see from the video if the victim was white or female; however, the parent stated in their explanation that it was a white girl who was alone at the time of the attack. From other viewer comments made on the post, apparently this wasn't the only 'attack' of this nature during the same school day. Also disturbing was the victim's prior discussions with authority figures at PHS were told by her that she was being threatened. Knowing this attack was imminent, the administration seemed to let the situation occur without any interference before, during or after. Furthermore, the parent states their child was afraid to take the video to the office, in fear of being suspended for having the video in the first place.

Today, we can no longer blame busing for racial violence in schools. However, the anger seems to be ever-present within the student body as if we're back in 1974. Namely the black students are now terrorizing white students over some illusionary grievance. And once again, after all the upheaval over Salisbury University's enabling of reverse discrimination, we are now faced with yet, another act (or potentially more) of same with an schools enabling by inaction.

Days of Jim Crow (1950s)
Have we come full circle on this grand liberal agenda to the point where it's time to reinstate racial segregation in our school systems?

Many will no doubt retort that this is a preposterous idea as some have bitter memories of the painful movement from segregated to desegregated but do our kids deserve to be in this type of turmoil as they try to get an education in today's public school system?

Sure, there's been bullies all throughout history - especially in high school. Every school has at least one bad apple or two whom finds joy in slamming the skinny kids into lockers and calling those with weight problems, painful names but when a gang of kids beat another person to the point of head contusions, facial injuries and broken arms or worse, like in Delaware, being beaten to death - when is it enough for people to start segregating from each other?

Abraham Lincoln (1863)
Most people today don't realize President Abraham Lincoln had an ultimate agenda for freeing the slaves. He wanted to send them back to Africa and South America. In fact, he did send a few groups to these locations but most died due to their inability to withstand the environment. He expressed many times, he didn't believe black and white people could coexist together in any kind of racial harmony. This was over 150 years ago when he penned this statement in his State of the Union address to Congress, asking to deport the black population out of America.

It seems from the incidents over the last couple of weeks at both Parkside and Salisbury University, perhaps he's right. Maybe this social experiment hasn't worked out so hot after all. More and more white people have relayed to me over the last eight years, they find themselves more cautious and aware of the black people in their presence. It's like they're poised for just about anything - they look at them with suspicion and more scrutiny than even ten years ago. Why? Largely because of all the violent rioting with hate groups like BLM but also it's the way they are treated by black people in stores, restaurants, on the roadways, in the workplace and at local schools by blacks.

BLM interrupting Sanders Rally (2016)
For example, I had an incident happen just yesterday where I was trying to help a young black man get a clerk's attention. When I asked him if he was having trouble, he couldn't have been more rude. I got this treatment merely because I was trying to HELP him. Incidents like this cause me grave concern over our community's elderly and homeless population who provide easy and defenseless targets for this young black anger.

It's sad that we all can't seem to get along with a shared goal of peace and prosperity, but let's be honest with ourselves, the racial divide in our community is more acute now than the Sixties; however, the hostility of the young black population far exceeds, in spite of the many benefits their forefathers fought for them to enjoy in the Civil Rights Movement era. It's abundantly clear, area schools (including the universities) aren't going to step up to the plate and help with this issue. If anything, they enable its continuance due to their inaction and lack of intolerance.

All I know is this, while today everyone enjoys Mother's Day, one area mother is having to nurse her physically broken child due to a vicious attack in a seemingly 'safe space' in school because of the color of her skin.

So, I ask of you, was Lincoln right after all? Is it time to, once again, segregate due to irreconcilable differences? Unfortunately, it's no longer a question of racism as it's now become a question of prudence and perhaps physical safety.

How say you?

Verizon workers lose benefits during strike

Posted: 15 May 2016 05:00 AM PDT

It's been nearly a month since thousands of Verizon workers went out on strike.

You may have seen union members with picket signs outside Verizon stores around the area lately; several of them were outside the store in Timonium on Monday.

"It's just about a fair contract. We're just trying to hang on to what we have, not even move forward anymore," said Phil Porter of the Communications Workers of America Local 2100.

The striking workers staff Verizon's call centers, and repair the company's copper land-lines.

MSP: Princess Anne Official Charged With Extortion

Posted: 15 May 2016 05:01 AM PDT

(PRINCESS ANNE, MD) – – An official in the county seat of Somerset County has been arrested and charged in connection with an extortion scheme to keep someone from running for county commissioner.

The accused is identified as Lionel D. Frederick 2nd, 25, of Princess Anne, Md. He is charged with three counts of extortion and theft.

On May 5, 2016, criminal investigators from the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division at the Princess Anne Barrack began an investigation into allegations of extortion involving the accused, who is currently a Princess Anne Town Commissioner. The investigation was initiated after information was obtained indicating Frederick had contacted a Somerset County Commissioner and advised he had someone who would run for the commissioner's seat, but if the commissioner paid him $5,000, he would convince the person not to run.

Today, Frederick made contact with the County Commissioner and arranged to meet and receive half of the $5,000. State Police investigators conducted a surveillance of the meeting, which occurred at Frederick's home. The County Commissioner gave Frederick $2,500. Shortly after the transaction, Frederick was arrested by state troopers.

The investigation is continuing.

President Obama Is A Transgender Idiot

Posted: 15 May 2016 05:00 AM PDT

I think you all figured I'd chime in on this UN AMERICAN Federal move to shove yet another incredible liberal law down our throats while the mass majority disagree.

WBOC wants to suggest that it's about stopping BULLYING in schools. REALLY? Do ANY of you actually believe that if some GUY walks into your Daughters bathroom or SHOWER that they finally WON'T GET BULLIED?

My guess is that they'll get bullied a whole hell of a lot more AFTER the massive majority of children and adults get royally pissed off.

We're talking about CHILDREN here you wet pants liberals. Your liberal teaching is destroying America. Less than .03% ALLEGEDLY, (Lord knows where they came up with that number) are transgenders and we're going to change the entire COUNTRY over this BS? NO LAWS should ever be changed when it proves to be such a minority percentage. Now maybe there are some LIBERALS who WANT their 13 year old child to see a mans genitals but NOT ME or the majority of the rest of us Americans.

Look, maybe there are some where they're not wired correctly, I get that. However, this gay/lgbt crap has got to stop. The ONLY one who can come to proper reasoning on these matters is Donald Trump. Let the LGBT community front the funding to build all transgender bathrooms. STOP sexually abusing our children.

By the way WBOC, it's not a BAFROOM, it's a bathroom.

Obama’s last act is to force suburbs to be less white and less wealthy

Posted: 15 May 2016 05:00 AM PDT

Hillary's rumored running mate, Housing Secretary Julian Castro, is cooking up a scheme to reallocate funding for Section 8 housing to punish suburbs for being too white and too wealthy.

The scheme involves super-sizing vouchers to help urban poor afford higher rents in pricey areas, such as Westchester County, while assigning them government real estate agents called "mobility counselors" to secure housing in the exurbs.

Castro plans to launch the Section 8 reboot this fall, even though a similar program tested a few years ago in Dallas has been blamed for shifting violent crime to affluent neighborhoods.

It's all part of a grand scheme to forcibly desegregate inner cities and integrate the outer suburbs.

West Point makes decision regarding cadets' raised-fists photo

Posted: 15 May 2016 05:00 AM PDT

NEW YORK -- Sixteen black West Point cadets who posed with raised fists for a pre-graduation picture won't be punished for the gesture.

The U.S. Military Academy said Tuesday it concluded the group photo didn't violate any Department of Defense rules limiting political activity. West Point says in a statement an internal inquiry found the picture of the 16 female cadets captured a spur-of-the-moment gesture intended to demonstrate unity and pride.

The decision comes with the seniors poised to graduate May 21.

Some observers outside the academy had suggested the cadets violated the military policy by posing with clenched fists held head high.

While Davis complained about the monument in the past, this time he filed a civil action lawsuit, dated April 29, in the U.S. District Court.

Civil action number 16CV689 lists the county's three commissioners as defendants.

Susan Rice Says National Security Agencies Too ‘White, Male and Yale’

Posted: 15 May 2016 05:00 AM PDT

White House National Security Adviser Susan Rice said in a speech Wednesday that national security agencies are too "white, male and Yale."

Rice, who is herself black, delivered a speech at Florida International University, in which she argued these agencies should better reflect the diversity present in America, The Washington Times reports.

For Rice, the problem with having too many white males is that a sort of "groupthink" environment is fostered. Through bringing in racial minorities, this groupthink can be shattered.

"By now, we should all know the dangers of 'groupthink,' where folks who are alike often think alike," Rice said. "By contrast, groups comprised of different people tend to question one another's assumptions, draw on divergent perspectives and experiences, and yield better outcomes."

Multiple students noted the role their education has played in changing their attitudes on the subject, a testament to damage done by higher education systems dominated by leftist faculty and administrators.

Zimmerman also said he was unconcerned with how critics might react to the sale.

A Viewer Writes: I just called WBOC Channel 16

Posted: 15 May 2016 05:00 AM PDT

I just called WBOC Channel 16 "Delmarva's New Reader" at 7:10 PM. I was trying to reach a live person; I followed all the ridiculous phone prompts including… press 9895 to speak to someone in the newsroom (including if you want to provide a news tip). The extension rang for 15 minutes when I decided to hang up.

The nature of my call (they didn't know) was to ask them – if I de-program my TV not to receive Channel 16, could I leave my phone number or address and have someone contact me when they decide to cover more local news (more Salisbury and surrounding areas – in the station's broadcast area would be nice) but I gave up. Now checking out TV's menu options to delete Channel 16. I can do it, I know, as suggested by one of the previous posts / comments.

I am asking the reader's of SBYnews, because that is the first place I turn to every morning with my coffee fix, would / could someone get a post on SBYnews notifying that WBOC has realized their problem and fixed it.

Here is my view of the current WBOC (they weren't like this before) "I am the BIG RICH FAT CAT IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD" – "LOOK AT ME" – I GOT ME A HELICOPTER. Sorry for the capitalization – but that is what they seem to be doing with their constant barrage of $#!+.

I have yet to see how that makes better news.

Patiently waiting (maybe), a LIBERAL SBYnews reader. Thank you Joe but sorry, I'll vote democrat as always.

Black West Point Cadets Give Black Power Salute

Posted: 15 May 2016 05:00 AM PDT

West Point is investigating 16 black women cadets who took a photo with their fists raised like a black power salute for violating Defense Department policy against political activities while in uniform, reported the Army Times.

The women were posing for a so-called "Old Corps photo," a tradition at the U.S. Military Academy, but the Army Times noted that social media comments suggested the raised fists may be connected to the Black Lives Matter movement.

"West Point, the prestigious military academy that carries itself with honor and pride for the incredible leaders that have been produced from the rigorous academic undertaking of its cadets, yet what happens when those same cadets identify with a group that has been known for inflicting violent protest throughout various parts of the United States, calling for the deaths of police officers, and even going so far as to call for the deaths of white Americans," wrote John Burk, for the military blog In the Arena.

Under the academy's honor code, the cadets could be charged with conduct unbecoming an officer, Greg Greiner, a military law expert and partner at the Tully Rinckey law firm, told the Army Times.

London’s New Mayor Warns Trump: Let In Muslims Or They Will Attack America

Trump recently praised Sadiq Khan for winning London's mayoral race, and said he would be willing to create an exception in his policy restricting Muslim entry into the United States in order to allow Khan to visit. But in a statement Tuesday, Khan dismissed Trump's invitation, and also denounced his views on Islam as "ignorant," suggesting Trump's policies would increase the terrorist threat in both the U.S. and U.K.

"Donald Trump's ignorant view of Islam could make both of our countries less safe – it risks alienating mainstream Muslims around the world and plays into the hands of extremists," he said. US gives directive to schools on transgender bathroom access

Posted: 15 May 2016 05:00 AM PDT

WASHINGTON —Public schools must permit transgender students to use bathrooms and locker rooms consistent with their gender identity, according to an Obama administration directive issued amid a court fight between the federal government and North Carolina.

The guidance from leaders at the departments of Education and Justice says public schools are obligated to treat their transgender students in a way that matches their gender identity, even if their education records or identity documents indicate a different sex.

"There is no room in our schools for discrimination of any kind, including discrimination against transgender students on the basis of their sex," Attorney General Loretta Lynch said in a statement.

The directive is contained in formal guidance being sent to school districts Friday.

Wendy’s Serves Up Big Kiosk Expansion As Wage Hikes Hit Fast Food

Posted: 15 May 2016 05:00 AM PDT

Wendy's (WEN) said that self-service ordering kiosks will be made available across its 6,000-plus restaurants in the second half of the year as minimum wage hikes and a tight labor market push up wages.

It will be up to franchisees whether to deploy the labor-saving technology, but Wendy's President Todd Penegor did note that some franchise locations have been raising prices to offset wage hikes.

McDonald's (MCD) has been testing self-service kiosks. But Wendy's, which has been vocal about embracing labor-saving technology, is launching the biggest potential expansion.

Washington Post Assigns Army of 20 to Dig Into 'Every Phase' of Trump's Life

Posted: 15 May 2016 05:00 AM PDT

The Washington Post has built a sizable army of reporters to dig into every facet of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's life under orders of new owner Jeff Bezos, the Amazon founder and Democratic Party donor.

Post Associate Editor Bob Woodward revealed Wednesday that the Post has assigned 20 staffers to Trump. In addition the paper plans a book.

"There's a lot we don't know," he told the National Association of Realtors convention in Washington. "We have 20 people working on Trump, we're going to do a book, we're doing articles about every phase of his life," he added.

He said that Bezos has urged the Post to run as many stories on Trump and the other candidates so that voters can't say they didn't know about the eventual president.

"He said, 'Look, the job at the Washington Post has to be tell us everything about who the eventual nominee will be in both parties, 15 part, 16 part series, 20 part series, we want to look at every part of their lives and we're never going get the whole story of course but we can get the best attainable," said the famed reporter.

A question for the Attorney General

Posted: 15 May 2016 05:00 AM PDT

Fox News host Todd Starnes:

A question for the Attorney General:

Shouldn't a 16-year-old who identifies as a 21-year-old be allowed to consume alcohol?

Shouldn't a 40-year-old who identifies as a 70-year-old receive Social Security benefits and the senior citizen discount at the movie theatre?

I mean if we are going to identify people simply because of their "feelings" --- doesn't anything go?

Gov. Larry Hogan signs almost 200 bills into law

Posted: 15 May 2016 05:00 AM PDT

ANNAPOLIS, Md. —Gov. Larry Hogan signed almost 200 bills into law Tuesday, including one that expands access to contraceptives for men and women in Maryland.

The new law takes what the Affordable Care Act covers a few steps further, and it also includes birth control for men. Supporters called it "groundbreaking," the most important birth control legislation in more than 30 years.

"Maryland continues to be a trailblazing state in women's health care. We were the first state to mandate contraceptive coverage in 1998, and now, in 2016, Maryland is the first state to legislate the most comprehensive insurance coverage of birth control in the United States," said Karen Nelson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Maryland.

The Contraceptive Equity Act requires insurance companies to cover and completely pay for most types of contraception. It's basically birth control with no out-of-pocket costs, which means that co-pays are banned, whether it's the pill, plan B or vasectomies for men.

REPORT: Hillary’s Emails Hacked by Russia – Kremlin Deciding Whether to Release 20,000 Stolen Emails

Posted: 15 May 2016 05:00 AM PDT

The Kremlin is debating whether to release the 20,000 emails they have hacked off of Hillary Clinton's server.

According to a report from four days ago, beginning in 2011, the Russians began monitoring Romanian computer hacker Marcel Lazăr Lehel (aka Guccifer) after he attempted, unsuccessfully, to break into the computer system of the Russian funded RT television network.

After monitoring Guccifer, the Russians were reportedly able to record (both physically and electronically) his actions which allowed the Russian intelligence analysts, in 2013, to not only detect his breaking into the private computer of Secretary Clinton, but also break in and copy all of its contents as well.

The report notes that shortly after Russia obtained Clinton's emails, they released a limited amount to RT TV which were published in an article in March 2013, titled Hillary Clinton's 'hacked' Benghazi emails: FULL RELEASE.

Obama: Crime Created by ‘System,’ Successful People ‘Just Lucky,’ ‘Wasn’t Nothin’ You Did’

Posted: 15 May 2016 05:00 AM PDT

In his commencement speech to the graduating class at Howard University last weekend, President Obama excused crime in the African American community as something fostered by an "unfair and unjust" system.

He also said successful people were "just lucky" and hinted they didn't make their success; "It wasn't nothin' you did," he insisted.

Obama appeared at the historically African American Howard University on May 7 to send the graduates off into the world with some inspiring words. But much of what the president said was less inspirational and more conspiratorial.

The president spent a large portion of the first 15 minutes of his speech properly impressing upon the minority students in attendance that they are living in an era of unprecedented opportunity. But even as he noted how far African Americans have come in America today, he said he would be speaking to the inequities blacks face.

Baltimore police arrest suspects in bump-and-run auto thefts

Posted: 15 May 2016 05:00 AM PDT

BALTIMORE —Baltimore police have arrested six people in connection with "bump-and-run" style car thefts, and they want the public to be on the lookout for others.

Police arrested six people last week on various charges relating to a scheme to steal cars. The thieves bump another car from behind and when the driver gets out, one of them jumps into the victim's car and drives off.

Police identified those charged as Jasmine Gerald, 19, Kanyawn Megginson, 19, Barry Diggs, 18, and Jaquan Bennet, 17.

Police also arrested two 16-year-old boys.

Diggs was charged with auto theft and other theft-related charges. Bennet was charged as an adult with several counts of armed robbery, handgun violations, assault and other related charges.

Gerald was charged with theft and robbery. Megginson was charged with robbery, auto theft and other related charges.

Henry Marucut became the victim of this type of crime a few weeks ago as he drove for Uber on Northern Parkway.

"They pushed me out of the way and one of the passengers of the other car ran into my car and hopped in and drove off with my car," Marucut said.

Salisbury Wins Best Tasting Water in Maryland for Second Consecutive Year!

Posted: 15 May 2016 05:00 AM PDT

Mayor Declares May 8th – May 14th Drinking Water Week

Salisbury – Mayor Jake Day is pleased to announce that Salisbury's tap water has won "Best Tasting Water in Maryland" honors in the Maryland Rural Water Association's "Toasting the Tap" competition for the second year in a row.

The back-to-back victory is not unprecedented. This win marks the second time Salisbury's tap water has taken the trophy in consecutive years, having previously done so in 2008 and 2009.

The "Toasting the Tap" competition is part of the Maryland Rural Water Association's Annual Conference. Judges evaluate samples from around the state, grading each on taste, appearance, and odor. Salisbury's winning sample was once again collected from the Paleo Water Treatment Plant on Scenic Drive.

The City's water treatment process includes aeration, pre-chlorination, filtration, iron removal, disinfection, corrosion control, and fluoride addition. Last year, Salisbury's 11 wells produced 2.2 Billion gallons of drinkable, delicious water.

By winning at the state level, Salisbury qualifies to participate in the Great American Water Taste Test, to be held in Washington, D.C. in February of 2017.

News of the victory came just as the Mayor was set to announce that the week of May 8th through May 14th has been declared Drinking Water Week in Salisbury.

"What better way to kick off a week dedicated to heightening awareness of the processes which bring the water from the Coastal Plain aquifer into our homes every day? It's tremendous," said the Mayor. "I encourage residents to read our water quality reports, available on the City's website (http://bit.ly/24GZXJG), and to check out some of the great resources available online, such as DrinkTap.org. At a time when trust in our water is essential, it is an honor to deliver the award-winning best water in Maryland, year after year. "

A Furnitureland Comment Worthy Of A Post

Posted: 15 May 2016 05:00 AM PDT

Good Day Salisbury…

On behalf of our store in Delmar, I would like to thank all patrons both past and present for your choice to spend your hard earned money with our local, family business. In reference to the angst that many of you have expressed regarding internationally sourced products, please note that as a retailer, we would LOVE to carry more domestically produced products. As a family, we are incredibly patriotic and are intentional in our efforts to seek out American made products. In fact, nearly all of our upholstery as well as all of our mattresses are made in America. In the case of our mattresses, we actually chose to not only partner with domestic suppliers, but actually chose partners who make their products in Maryland and Virginia; meaning we not only support American jobs, but regional manufacturing jobs.

The reality of the manufacturing climate in America has made it very tough to competitively produce products in this country. Consumers demand the highest quality, at the lowest price. Unfortunately, this nation's current trade and regulatory structure makes it very difficult to accomplish both of these goals in a competitive manner. In our industry, I would suspect that ALL furniture retailers would prefer to deal with domestic suppliers. The sad reality is, however, that there are very few domestic manufacturers that can exist in these conditions.

As for this "American Job" conversation, are me, my family and the nearly 80 local people that we employ not Americans? Are we not the ones that local charities seek out for donations? Are we not the ones who sponsor your kid's little league teams? Are we not the ones who contribute to great local causes and local families all across Delmarva? Are we not the ones whose tax revenue builds local fire houses and schools? In a landscape where manufacturing is vanishing, we, the small business community are the backbone of local economies and local philanthropy. Our money stays here and improves things in our local neighborhoods. So, when you buy from a local business like us, no matter where the product initially comes from, Delmarva is the benefactor. Taxes, payroll, donations etc all go to local causes that we can experience right here. We would all do well to remember not to punish the local family business for the failed national landscape of manufacturing.

In closing, I want to make it very clear that we take great pride in our business and taking care of our customers. In the event that anyone would like to have a discussion regarding service concerns or the origin of their product, I can be reached directly at jbarnes@furniturelandde.com. We sincerely consider ourselves fortunate to live in one of America's best communities (Delmarva), and stand ready to listen and serve at your request.

Most Respectfully,

Parkside High School Now Protected By Multiple Sheriff's Deputies

A parent just dropped their kids off at Parkside HS and said there were at least 3 Deputies in the school yesterday. Only one is assigned to the high school. They also said the teachers were in the hallways. I thought that was the standard, having teachers monitor the halls.

Do you think Dr. Freddy spent his weekend monitoring the Blog?

A Viewer Writes: FIXER UPPPER SHOW / CHIP & JOANNE BARNES

Posted: 15 May 2016 05:00 AM PDT

Just thought I'd enlighten some people on your blog about a very popular show on TV and just give them straight facts. I am probably one of others that read your blog that watch the show "FixerUpper" with Chip and Joanne Barnes truly down to earth it seems nice people who fix up homes in the Waco Texas area and decorate them beautifully in what is like a country primitive design for the most part.
Furniture Land in Delaware has as of a week ago started selling their furniture and home decor which I rushed to get a new dinning room table in white just my taste. The furniture is expensive I will say but if it is truly what you want it is nice. I was totally surprised when we got home and my husband and son were putting it together and setting it up, my son took off a tag and it said made in Vietnam I was totally shocked, I still love it but I am sure many out there think they would be getting country pieces made in this country.

Just wanted buyers to know so that they can make their choices knowing the facts. I guess I'm just stupid for not knowing like any other company anymore just because you see home spun charm, and local people, check things over and ask questions to make informed decisions. I will continue to watch the show, and still would buy other pieces, just a little wiser now.

Pennsylvania girl thrown out of prom for wearing a suit

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A Midstate high school student had the experience of a lifetime at her prom Friday night, but not in the way her family expected.

Aniya Wolf was thrown out of Bishop McDevitt's prom.

Ever since Aniya Wolf was a little girl, she dressed like a boy.

"I've just always been like this, ever since I was little", explained Aniya Wolf, "I was always more masculine. You wouldn't catch me playing with any Barbie dolls I'll tell you that right now."

Aniya Wolf is not transgender, she was born a girl and feels like a girl. She is a lesbian, who does not want to wear girly clothes.

Throughout her three years at Bishop McDevitt, her school uniform was strictly a shirt and pants.

Not sure if this is the right place or not, but wondering if you could provide insight into this, or maybe you are looking into this already. But I was told today that the Wicomico county schools are being investigated by the federal government. Do to possible civil right violation from the ratio of black students to white students being sent to principles office or even suspended. People are told to limit sending students to the office to keep the statistics better until the investigation is over. Not sure I want this info posted to the site seeing how tensions are high right now. Maybe this info will either give you some more information to work with or maybe help further an investigation. But if you do post to ur site hopefully a little editing and spell check will take place since mine sucks, but not sure this is the right time to post such an article. Also this is not confirmed and I would hate to throw out untrue information, however unlike you my resources are limited and I really do have the investigative skills to confirm this. So I am just trying to give you something to work with. Thanks

Maryland vape shop weighs in on new FDA rules

Posted: 15 May 2016 05:00 AM PDT

WASHINGTON — Electronic cigarettes will soon follow regulations similar to regular cigarettes, the Food and Drug Administration announced on Thursday.

Under new federal rules, e-cigarettes gain a national age restriction, banning usage for anyone under the age of 18. But that's something Maryland had in place since last October.

Casey Burtenshaw, the manager of Pleasant Vapes in Dunkirk, Maryland, hopes new FDA regulations won't hurt his business. His shop is one in a chain of three stores that have opened in Calvert County in the last three years or so. He said his shop is very diligent about carding customers to check their age.

E-cigarettes work by heating up liquid that often contains nicotine, and turning it into flavored, inhalable vapor. Because most of these products are so new, studies on their health effects have been minimal.
