Quelle Surprise: Argus Media sold in £1 billion deal Posted: 23 May 2016 10:10 AM PDT Hat tip to Neil Hume over at the Financial Times for landing the final twist in the tale of the sale of Argus Media and congratulations to all the journalists who work at the information service as many will soon become multi-millionaires. Here is the link to Neil's story: http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/8646d45c-20d1-11e6-aa98-db1e01fabc0c.html#axzz49UVqPBH7 Loyal readers will recall it was little old Betaville that broke the news about Argus Media appointing Bank of Merrill Lynch to sell a stake in the business as part of a deal that could value the company at up to £1 billion. Here is the link to that piece from back in November 2015: http://betaville123.blogspot.co.uk/2015/11/revealed-argus-media-group-appoints.html So, it would appear my valuation back then was not too far from where the deal ended up at, with private equity group General Atlantic purchasing a 52 stake as part of a deal that values the company at around £1 billion. And the transaction is just another chapter of a fascinating story about a one man newsletter founded by Jan Nasmyth that was transformed into a £1 billion company over a 30 year period. I wonder whether something similar might happen with little old Betaville? |
