Steny Hoyer Won’t Commit to Floor Vote on Impeachment Proceedings

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 07:30 PM PDT

House Majority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) has signaled he will not commit to House Democrats voting this week to formalize their secret impeachment inquiry, even after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said a vote is expected to take place on Thursday.

"We're going to have to consider whether or not it's ready to go on Thursday. I hope that's the case," Hoyer told reporters on Tuesday when asked about the planned vote.

The House announced Monday that it will move Thursday to determine whether to establish impeachment inquiry procedures into President Trump. The text of the resolution was not immediately released, but House Rule Committee Chairman Jim McGovern (D-MA) said it would "provide a clear path forward" on the impeachment inquiry.

1.1 Million Migrants Crossed into U.S. in FY2019, Nearly Half-Million Families

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 07:00 PM PDT

The apprehension of migrants who crossed the border into the U.S. reached 1.1 million during Fiscal Year 2019. More than 850,000 crossed into the U.S. illegally. Of those, nearly a half-million of the migrants were family units.

During Fiscal Year 2019, which ended on September 30, U.S.Border Patrol agents and CBP officers apprehended more than 1,148,000 migrants who crossed the border from Mexico into the U.S., according to year-end numbers released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Tuesday in El Paso. The El Paso Sector witnessed the largest percentage increase of illegal border crossings in all categories.

The apprehension of migrants illegally crossing the border is at the highest level since 2007, when agents apprehended 858,638. The apprehension of family units was not tracked in 2007, but this year marks a record for the category–473,000. This number is nearly quadrupled 2018's report of 107,490 migrant family apprehensions. Prior to that, there had never been more than 100,000 family apprehensions in a single year.

Comptroller Franchot's Statement on Compensation for Wrongfully Incarcerated

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 06:30 PM PDT

More than $9 million approved at today's Board of Public Works

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (October 30, 1959) - Comptroller Peter Franchot today released this statement following Board of Public Works' approval of payments to five wrongfully incarcerated men:
"I'm very pleased that today, the Board of Public Works is finally moving forward with approving compensation to five Marylanders who spent years behind bars for crimes that they did not commit … Years that they spent incarcerated, separated from their families, friends and loved ones … Years they could have spent pursuing their hopes and dreams while living their lives freely.
"Jerome Johnson, Lamar Johnson, Walter Lomax, Clarence Shipley and Hubert James Williams are victims of a broken criminal justice system. Although no dollar amount can restore what was taken from them, I hope that today's action brings some solace and a sense of vindication for these five individuals.
"Each of these five petitioners will receive $78,000 for every year they spent incarcerated – an amount equal to our state's annual median household income. We chose the median household income intentionally because through their erroneous conviction and incarceration, these five men were deprived of the opportunity to earn an income and contribute to their communities and to our state.
"I would like to thank the Board staff for their hard work behind the scenes that made today's action possible. They have done a tremendous public service for the five petitioners and our state and we are grateful for their efforts."

NSC Official Alex Vindman Testifies in Full Military Uniform, Despite Not Wearing One to Work Every Day

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 06:00 PM PDT

National Security Council (NSC) official Alexander Vindman showed up to testify Tuesday as part of the Democrats' closed-door impeachment inquiry into President Trump in full military uniform.

This is despite not wearing one to work every day at the NSC, according to several sources.

Although Vindman is a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army, he is serving an assignment at the NSC as the director for European Affairs. According to sources at the NSC, Vindman does not wear his uniform to work at the NSC, where the standard dress is business wear.

One source said he donned the uniform "just for show." The source pointed out that Vindman was ironically wearing a presidential service badge on his uniform — as he testifies on his concerns about Trump's handling of Ukraine policy.

"Hey, the kids wanna know — why you wanna kill deer?" the man asked Lobifaro, who was sitting in his vehicle.

"Cuz I eat them," said Lobifaro.

MSP Helicopter Hoists Patient From Cruise Ship In Queen Anne’s Co.

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 04:30 PM PDT

(KENT ISLAND, MD) – Maryland State Police Aviation Command hoisted a patient who was suffering from a medical emergency off of a cruise ship Tuesday in Queen Anne's County.

At approximately 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Maryland State Police received a request for assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard to hoist a patient suffering from a medical emergency aboard a cruise ship in the Chesapeake Bay. Maryland State Police Trooper 6, based in Easton, Maryland, was dispatched to the cruise ship Aida Luna's, which was located in the Chesapeake Bay south of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge near Kent Island.

The helicopter crew configured Trooper 6 for an aerial hoist operation and arrived overhead the cruise ship at approximately 10:25 p.m. The pilots maneuvered the AW-139 helicopter into position approximately 120 feet above the deck of the cruise ship and 220 feet above the water line. A state police flight paramedic was lowered to the deck of the ship to rendezvous with the patient and prepare for extrication.

After the patient was assessed and placed into the secure hoisting device, both the patient and flight paramedic were hoisted up to the helicopter. Once the patient was secured inside the aircraft, Trooper 6 was able to transition to its medevac role and transported the patient to the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.

The Maryland State Police Aviation Command has served Maryland citizens since 1970, and operates a fleet of ten helicopters from seven bases throughout Maryland on a 24/7/365 basis. Missions include medevac, law enforcement, search & rescue, homeland security, and disaster assessment. The success of rescues performed by the Aviation Command depends a great deal on the cooperative efforts of local fire, rescue, EMS, law enforcement agencies, and our partners at the United States Coast Guard.

Megan Rapinoe shouldn’t be anybody’s ‘Woman of the Year’

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 03:30 PM PDT

Glamour magazine thinks soccer star Megan Rapinoe is "the unapologetic pink-haired icon we've needed in 2019." In reality, she's a terrible role model for women everywhere.

Glamour decided to select Rapinoe for their annual 'Women of the Year' shortlist, which highlights eight women they see as "remarkable women" and "warriors on the front lines of change." And of course it's true that Rapinoe accomplished a great deal this year, leading the U.S. Women's National Team to victory at the Women's World Cup and scoring six goals in the process.

But her personal escapades undermine all this accomplishment and disqualify her from deserving any sort of accolade. She has used her public platform to peddle in obnoxious self-victimhood, insult the country, display contempt for Americans, and lie about sexism in sports

Hornberger: The Evil Of The Drug War

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 03:00 PM PDT

With the exception of the U.S. national-security state and its foreign policy of empire and intervention and its torture, state-sponsored assassinations, coups, alliances with dictatorial regimes, invasions, occupations, wars of aggression, illegal and unconstitutional wars, mass secret surveillance, indefinite detention, secret prison camps, drug experimentation on unsuspecting people, denial of due process, denial of trial by jury, kangaroo military tribunals, and other dark-side practices, it would be difficult to find a better example of an evil and immoral program than the war on drugs.

Consider:
1. Everyone, including the most ardent drug-war proponent, agrees that this decades-long program has failed to achieve its goal, which is a drug-free society.

2. If failure was the only consequence of this program, that would be one thing. But it's not. Drug laws have brought Into existence drug gangs, drug cartels, gang wars, drug assassinations, drug kidnappings, burglaries, robberies, murders, muggings, and official corruption.

3. The drug war is also the most racially bigoted government program since segregation, perhaps even more so. Under segregation, government officials used the force of law to keep the races separated, but at least they permitted blacks to keep living in the community. With drug laws, they have been able to remove blacks entirely from communities and relocate them into places called penitentiaries, where they are forced to spend a large portion of their lives. They have also been able to use drug laws to harass, abuse, insult, and humiliate African-Americans, Latinos, and other racial minorities.

That's not to say, of course, that all law-enforcement agents and all judges are racially bigoted. It is simply to say that for those who are racially bigoted, the drug war is like heaven on earth, in that it enables them to exercise their bigotry in a legal manner and even get praised for it.

4. The drug war has played a major role in the destruction of liberty in America. Just think: They actually put people into jail for doing nothing more than ingesting a substance that politicians and bureaucrats, both at the state and federal level, don't approve of.

Jeffrey Epstein's autopsy more consistent with homicidal strangulation than suicide, Dr. Michael Baden reveals

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 02:00 PM PDT

The body of disgraced money man and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who was found dead in his Manhattan federal prison cell in August, bore telltale signs of homicide despite an official ruling that he killed himself, a pioneering forensic pathologist revealed to "Fox & Friends" in an exclusive interview Wednesday.

The bombshell claim by Dr. Michael Baden, a former New York City medical examiner who has worked on high-profile cases during a five-decade medical career, is certain to reignite suspicions that surfaced immediately after Epstein, who was awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges involving underage girls, was discovered dead in his cell on Aug. 10. Baden, who was hired by Epstein's brother and observed the autopsy, told Fox News its findings are more consistent with homicidal strangulation than suicidal hanging. He noted that the 66-year-old Epstein had two fractures on the left and right sides of his larynx, specifically the thyroid cartilage or Adam's apple, as well as one fracture on the left hyoid bone above the Adam's apple, Baden told Fox News.

"Those three fractures are extremely unusual in suicidal hangings and could occur much more commonly in homicidal strangulation," Baden, who is also a Fox News contributor, said.

State government shares the blame for NY’s mental-health mess

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 01:00 PM PDT

Mayor Bill de Blasio deserves much blame for the city's recent rash of violence by the mentally ill. But Gov. Andrew Cuomo's actions — and lack of them — have played a big role, too.

One statistic is telling: With 19.5 million residents, New York has less than 3,000 beds available in state psychiatric hospitals — just 15 beds per 100,000, when the minimum ratio generally considered necessary is 50 per 100,000. In 1955, the state had 600 per 100,000, as mental-health expert DJ Jaffe has reported — 40 times today's level.

Cuomo has closed hospitals and let the number of psychiatric beds drop, but the mentally ill haven't disappeared. They're just swelling shelters, jails and prisons, sprawled out on sidewalks — or roaming the streets, creating mayhem.

'We make tacos, not war': Food truck owner apologizes for apologizing for serving ICE employees

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 12:30 PM PDT

Lloyd Taco found itself in political crossfire after they served food to some workers who work for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The Buffalo-based food truck initially apologized for serving the ICE workers before a larger backlash on social media of over 4,000 comments on Facebook and Twitter slamming their decision, according to co-founder Pete Cimino.

"Chris and I want to fully and sincerely apologize for our past statement after our truck's visit to the federal detention facility in Batavia last week. Our statement was hastily made, and we reacted too quickly to criticism we received for that visit," Cimino said in a statement Monday at a press conference.

'Total panic': Man shouts 'Allahu akbar' at Joker screening and causes evacuation

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 12:00 PM PDT

Police arrested a man after he caused mass panic at the Grand Rex cinema in Paris during a showing of Joker by shouting, "Allahu akbar!"

The director of the movie theater told the Hollywood Reporter on Monday that the incident was an attempt by two men to clear the movie theater so they could steal people's belongings.

"They were two thieves looking for a way to take people's phones and bags. Apparently, they had already used the same tactic once on a train," he said.

The 34-year-old suspect started saying "it's political" during the Sunday night showing of the movie before he stood up and shouted the Arabic phrase for "God is great" and started mumbling in the language.

A vegetarian became a butcher after a pregnancy craving led her to try a hamburger

A pregnancy craving led a longtime vegetarian to eat a hamburger — and change her career.

Tammi Jonas, a 49-year-old Australian, had been a vegetarian since she was 19-years-old. Jonas maintained a meatless diet until she became pregnant with her third child.

During the pregnancy, she had a strong craving for a hamburger. Jonas had become "dangerously anemic" while carrying the child, forcing her to rely on iron supplements because of her meatless diet.

When the iron supplements became less effective, she broke down and grabbed a hamburger.

Pennsylvania state legislator who called for pro-life teenagers to be doxed apologizes months later

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 10:00 AM PDT

Pennsylvania state Rep. Brian Sims apologized to the family he harassed outside of a Philadelphia-area Planned Parenthood back in April.

Sims accosted Ashley Garecht, her two teenage daughters, and one of their friends on Holy Thursday before Easter weekend last spring. He harassed them momentarily before leaving, only to return later. Upon his return, the state lawmaker began filming and called for the family to be doxed while also continuing to mock them.

Despite backlash, the lawmaker refused to apologize at the time but did so earlier this week, according to Joe Garecht, Ashley Garecht's husband.

"Rep. Sims sent a short handwritten note, apologizing for his actions. We take him at his word, and we have already forgiven him," he told the Washington Examiner Tuesday.

The Walls are Closing In — but Not on Trump

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 09:45 AM PDT

Democrats and their media propaganda arm have been telling us since President Trump took office that "The walls are closing in." First it was the Mueller investigation, then every fake news story from the media, from Trump's attorney Michael Cohen being in Prague to Don Jr. calling his father about the Trump Tower entrapment meeting with some Russians.

Every "bombshell" revelation about Stormy Daniels or Omarosa meant that "the walls are closing in." Mueller's report, despite the best efforts of Andrew Weissman and his merry band of partisans, was a dud. As was the Ukraine phone call, with whistleblowers and Rep. Adam Schiff, perhaps one and the same, contradicted by the actual call transcript which Trump released.

For a humorous walk down memory lane, watch this YouTube montage of Democrat and #NeverTrump stooges telling their shrinking cable news audiences repeatedly that, "The walls are closing in" on President Trump.

'Y'all were running from us': Michelle Obama claims 'white folks' are 'afraid' of living in black neighborhoods

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 09:30 AM PDT

Michelle Obama spoke out against "white flight" in a recent interview, saying she experienced it as a kid and that it remains a problem.

"As families like ours — upstanding families like ours who were doing everything we were supposed to do and better. As we moved in, white folks moved out because they were afraid of what our families represented," the former first lady said Tuesday at the Obama Foundation Summit in Chicago.

"I want to remind white folks that y'all were running from us ... This family, with all the values that you read about, you were running from us. And you're still running because we're no different than the immigrant families that are moving in," she continued. "The families that are coming from other places to try to do better. But, because we can so easily wash over who we really were — because of the color of our skin, because of the texture of our hair — that's what divides countries, artificial things."

Poll shows a disturbingly high number of young people would vote for a socialist

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 09:15 AM PDT

Young people are turning toward socialism, and to some extent, even communism.

At least, that's what the results of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation's latest annual poll suggest. The survey was conducted by the reputable polling firm YouGov, and it surveyed a representative sample of 2,100 Americans.

The results are downright disturbing. The new data show that 64% of Gen Z and 70% of millennials say they're likely to vote for a socialist. Meanwhile, 20% of millennials think the Communist Manifesto "better guarantees freedom and equality" than the Declaration of Independence.

An invite to the White House has not yet been extended to the Belgian Malinois, but Trump wants to meet the canine, a senior administration official told ABC News.

Md. lawmakers, officials, union meet on staffing shortages

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 08:30 AM PDT

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland — State union employees told lawmakers Tuesday they are concerned that staff shortages — of about 2,600, according to a 2018 study — are causing safety issues, including some injuries, for employees at certain agencies.

Maryland lawmakers, state officials and union members gathered in Annapolis to address the shortage during a joint hearing before the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee and the House Appropriations Committee.

Hogan Administration officials said during the hearing that they are aware of the safety concerns and are working to address them, along with the shortage.

Jason Kramer, policy analyst with Legislative Services, said during the hearing that the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services alone had a need for more than 1,000 employees, while agencies like the Department of Juvenile Services and Department of Health were short more than 200 positions each, according to the study.

ARREST MADE IN ATTEMPTED ARSON

WICOMICO COUNTY, October 30, 2019 – Deputies from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Lower Eastern Region Office have concluded an origin & cause investigation with the arrest of 40-year-old Melvin Godinez in connection with an attempted arson.
On October 29, 2019 at 10:22 p.m., the Salisbury Fire Department responded to 203 Washington Street, Salisbury in Wicomico County to assist the Salisbury Police Department with an odor investigation. The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office was requested to conduct an origin & cause investigation and determined the odor was the result of an unknown ignitable liquid poured onto and around the front porch of the two-story single family dwelling.
The investigation identified Godinez as the person responsible. Witnesses were identified that saw Godinez pour a liquid and attempt to ignite the liquid with a cigarette lighter. The investigation also determined there was a civil dispute between Godinez and an occupant of the residence.
There was no damage to the structure or injuries reported.
Godinez was taken into custody at the scene and subsequently transferred to Wicomico County Central Booking without incident. Godinez has been charged with Attempted 1st Degree Arson and 2 counts of Reckless Endangerment. If convicted of all charges, Godinez faces 40 years imprisonment and / or $60,000.00 in fines.

Trump unloads on Chicago’s top cop and his pal 'wise guy' Jussie Smollett

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 07:00 AM PDT

When the drunk-driving Chicago Police Superintendent, Eddie Johnson, announced his decision to boycott the president's speech to the 126th Annual Conference of the International Association of Chiefs of Police because of his "personal values," POTUS made the most of it.

In his first visit to Chicago since taking office, President Trump did what he does best--he punched back twice as hard. In his speech to the IACP, Trump wasted no time in putting the blame for Chicago's out-of-control killings on Johnson's ignorant, incompetent leadership. "He's not doing his job," said Trump. "Since Eddie Johnson has been police chief more than 1,500 people have been murdered in Chicago and 13,067 people have been shot."

In detail, Trump fired off daily, weekly and yearly murder rates in Chicago.

The President may have assembled his stats from an online source called '"HeyJackass" with the sarcastic tagline "illustrating Chicago values." Don't let the web name fool you. The graphic site has as accurate, up-to-the-minute homicide numbers, shootings, trends,' the 'deadliest 'hoods' and homicide clearance rates (only 9.5% in 2019!) as any comparable data aggregator.

Black Female Concealed Carry Holder And Police Chief Make Case For Being ‘Legally Armed In Detroit’

A Tuesday night "Tucker Carlson Tonight" segment featured a black female concealed carry holder and Detroit's black police chief making the case for legal concealed carry for protection in one of America's largest and most violent cities.

"The liberals obviously hire body guards," Fox News host Tucker Carlson said as the segment began. "They hide themselves away in the safety of their neighborhoods. What if people can't afford to do that? What would gun bans mean for people who live in, say, Detroit, Michigan? This show went to Detroit to investigate that very question, and here's what we found."

Iowa Dems: Biden Could Suffer Humiliating Loss in State

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 06:15 AM PDT

Eleven senior Democrats in Iowa, citing former Vice President Joe Biden's poorly organized campaign operation, are warning he is risking a humiliating third or fourth-place finish in the state early next year, Bloomberg is reporting.

They claim his campaign operation has failed to engage with voters and party leaders in the state in advance of the Feb. 3 caucuses.

"I think it's fair to say if action isn't taken soon, you're going to find that a person who was 7 or 14 points behind Biden will be breathing down his neck or actually ahead of him," said Kurt Meyer, chairman of the Mitchell County Democratic Party.

A defeat in Iowa would cut into Biden's argument that is he best suited to defeat President Donald Trump, Bloomberg said.

Tucker Carlson Calls For Utilizing University Endowments To Pay Off Student Loan Debt

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 06:00 AM PDT

Fox News host Tucker Carlson floated the idea Monday on "Tucker Carlson Tonight" that universities and their large endowments should shoulder the burden of repaying student loans, not students and their families.

Carlson opened the segment discussing a recent poll showing communism's widespread popularity among millennials, calling it a "huge problem" that needs fixing

"Believe it or not, it's not the main problem," he added, gearing up for his main point. "The main problem — the reason that capitalism increasingly is discredited and socialism is increasingly popular — is that our current system is making young people poor."

It's working. Tens of thousands to abandon asylum

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 05:00 AM PDT

The Trump administration's "Remain in Mexico" policy has done exactly what officials had hoped — convince illegal immigrants with bogus asylum claims to give up and return home, officials said this week, declaring the controversial policy a success.

Of the 55,000 migrants who were subject to the Migrant Protection Protocols, as the program is officially known, a "small subset" have won their cases and been readmitted to the U.S. to proceed with asylum claims.

Another 20,000 are still waiting in northern Mexico, Homeland Security officials believe. But that leaves tens of thousands who are believed to have given up their claims.

Just as important are the would-be migrants that have not made the trip in the first place, Homeland Security said, cutting the number of illegal immigrant families nabbed at the U.S.-Mexico border by 80% from its record high in May.

The program is also more fair to the migrants, Homeland Security argues, since they can get a final hearing and learn their fate within a few months, rather than the years-long backlog for those stuck in the U.S. immigration courts.

Group Demands Docs Related to Qatar’s Suspected Infiltration of U.S. Public Schools

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 04:00 AM PDT

A legal organization has filed a series of requests to compel American universities to turn over documents that it suspects will shine light on efforts by Qatar to peddle influence and push anti-Israel bias in U.S. public schools, according to a copy of public records requests obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

The Lawfare Project, a legal group that provides services to the pro-Israel community, has filed document requests to compel Middle Eastern studies departments at the University of North Carolina and Duke University to turn over documents related to the alleged promotion of curricula sponsored by Qatar Foundation International, a partially state-funded organization that has helped Doha spend an estimated $1 billion pushing the Middle Eastern nation's priorities.

The Lawfare Project suspects these documents will reveal how Qatar has worked to spread its propaganda inside the American education system. The organization is seeking public records from UNC regarding any potential involvement by Qatar and its proxies in teacher training programs sponsored by the Duke-UNC Center for Middle Eastern Studies.

The document requests come as the Department of Education investigates how some $235,000 in federal funds were used to organize a series of anti-Israel events jointly held by Duke and UNC.
