Manslaughter charge added against teen arrested in deadly Great Frederick Fair assault Posted: 22 Oct 2019 07:00 AM PDT Prosecutors have added a manslaughter charge against the 15-year-old Frederick resident arrested last month after a fatal assault at The Great Frederick Fair. Prosecutor Laura Wilt, with the Frederick County State's Attorney's Office, said at a hearing Monday that her office filed the manslaughter charge, one count of first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault against the 15-year-old. His 16-year-old brother has been charged with two counts of second-degree assault. The 15-year-old punched 59-year-old Mount Airy resident John Weed and knocked him to the ground, said Will Cockey, a spokesman for the state's attorney's office. The 16-year-old was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, one for an initial punch to the back of the head, the other for spitting on Weed as he was on the ground, Cockey said. Posted: 22 Oct 2019 06:15 AM PDT U.S. Attorney General William Barr has significantly expanded a review into the origins of the Russian collusion hoax investigation, NBC News reported Monday. The news outlet acknowledged the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) would not say whether the investigation has morphed into a criminal probe. NBC News, however, reported "Justice Department officials have said [U.S. Attorney John] Durham has found something significant and critics should be careful." The news outlet did not elaborate on the findings. Referring to the expansion of the review into the origins of the Russian probe, NBC News reported, citing multiple current and former officials: The prosecutor conducting the review, Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham, has expressed his intent to interview a number of current and former intelligence officials involved in examining Russia's effort to interfere in the 2016 presidential election, including former CIA Director John Brennan and former director of national intelligence James Clapper, Brennan told NBC News. Durham has also requested to talk to CIA analysts involved in the intelligence assessment of Russia's activities, prompting some of them to hire lawyers, according to three former CIA officials familiar with the matter. And there is tension between the CIA and the Justice Department over what classified documents Durham can examine, two people familiar with the matter said. More here
GOP Rep. Palmer: ‘Schiff’s a Liar Posted: 22 Oct 2019 06:00 AM PDT For the most part, Rep. Adam Schiff's (D-CA) Republican colleagues have low regard for the House Intelligence Committee chairman, who is leading the push for President Donald Trump's impeachment. During an appearance on Birmingham, AL radio's Talk 99.5, Rep. Gary Palmer (R-AL), the chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee, put that on display. He was asked about the whereabouts of the so-called "whistleblower" claiming a quid pro quo between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who was promoted by Schiff. "I was in a briefing Wednesday with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and I was with the senator Thursday morning, and I am at the point the story has changed on the whistleblower that I am now referring to that individual, whoever it is, as an unnamed collaborator in effort to overthrow a president," Palmer said on Monday's "Matt & Aunie Show." The Alabama Republican went on to call Schiff a liar, which Palmer said was demonstrated by his track record. "Schiff's a liar," he continued. "I hope it gets back to him. It's the consensus that we have. He's proven himself over and over again to be unreliable. He makes things up as he goes." More
Greta: Fox News’ Wallace Wants to ‘Smear and Cause Trouble’ with Anonymous Impeachment Claim Posted: 22 Oct 2019 05:00 AM PDT Gray TV's Full Court Press host Greta Van Susteren has slammed her former Fox News Channel colleague Christopher Wallace for withholding his source while reporting that a "well-connected Republican" told him the GOP could vote to impeach President Donald Trump. "Chris Wallace should know better than to use anonymous 'well connected Republican' – he should name names or not say this at all as without the identity (what is a 'welll [sic] connected??')," Van Susteren wrote on Twitter Sunday. "[I]ts purpose is merely to smear and cause trouble – name names or don't say this at all." Maryland State Police To Host Drug Take Back Day Saturday Posted: 21 Oct 2019 08:00 PM PDT (PIKESVILLE, MD) – Once again, Maryland State Police urge Maryland residents to clean out their medicine cabinets and gather up and dispose of outdated, expired, and no longer useful prescription drugs at the end of this month. National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday October 26, 2019, aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible way to get rid of prescription medication in your home, while also educating the public on the potential for abuse of those medications. The event, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is held in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Agency as the Maryland State Police join other law enforcement agencies across the nation for this effort. All Maryland State Police barracks are 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week drop-off locations for old and unused medications. Secure drug collection boxes, located in the front lobby of each barrack, are easily accessible and in view of the barrack duty officer. Since 2014, thanks to this effort, state police barracks have collected over 20,000 pounds of unwanted medications, or, 10 tons of drugs combined during similar drug take-back day events that could have gotten into the wrong hands or drugs that could have ended up contaminating our rivers and streams, drugs that instead, were properly disposed of. Posted: 21 Oct 2019 07:30 PM PDT A seemingly unrelated criminal case in Washington has reopened a popular Trump-Russia guessing game: Who is Joseph Mifsud? The FBI says the vanishing professor is a Russian spy. Trump backers, citing Mr. Mifsud's extensive Western intelligence contacts, suspect he's an FBI, CIA or MI6 plant. The Washington Times examined Mr. Mifsud's extensive resume and frequent travels, revealing a skilled networker far more wedded to the West than the East. In May 2017, 10 months into the FBI Russia conspiracy probe, Mr. Mifsud spoke in Riyadh at a high-powered terrorism conference. On his panel was counterterrorism expert Michael Hurley, who led CIA officers in Afghanistan in 2001 and served as senior counsel on the 9/11 Commission. Former Defense Secretary Ashton Carter also spoke. Mr. Mifsud's importance is uncontested. His hearsay conversation with a Trump campaign adviser in London prompted the FBI to start the investigation in July 2016. Special counsel Robert Mueller's report cast Mr. Mifsud as a London-based academic who frequently talks to sinister Russians. Former FBI Director James B. Comey calls the balding rumpled European a Moscow asset. More
DOJ to Publish Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to Comply Fully with DNA Fingerprint Act of 2005 Posted: 21 Oct 2019 07:00 PM PDT The Department of Justice today issued a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) that would restore to the Attorney General the authority vested in him by the bipartisan DNA Fingerprint Act of 2005 to authorize and direct the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to collect DNA samples from the non-United States persons it detains. Once implemented, this rule will facilitate federal, state, and local crime reduction and investigation efforts. "The proposed rule change would help to save lives and bring criminals to justice by restoring the authority of the Attorney General to authorize and direct the collection of DNA from non-United States persons detained at the border and the interior by DHS, with the ultimate goal of reducing victimization of innocent citizens," said Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey A. Rosen. "Today's proposed rule change is a lawful exercise of the Attorney General's authority, provided by Congress, to collect DNA samples from non-United States persons who are properly detained under the authority of the United States." As a result of this rule change, the Department of Justice will ensure that all federal agencies—including DHS—are in full compliance with the bipartisan DNA Fingerprint Act, which was a component of a larger legislative package that passed the House of Representatives by an overwhelming vote of 415 to four and the Senate by Unanimous Consent. The DNA Fingerprint Act provided the Attorney General with the exclusive authority to draft regulations to authorize and direct any federal agency to "collect DNA samples from individuals who are arrested, facing charges, or convicted or from non-United States persons who are detained under the authority of the United States." 24 U.S.C. § 40702(a)(1)(A). On Dec. 10, 2008, the Department of Justice published in the Federal Register a final rule implementing the collection of DNA samples under the DNA Fingerprint Act. That rule included a provision at 28 C.F.R. § 28.12(b)(4) that permitted DHS to exempt itself from collecting DNA samples from its non-United States citizen detainees by consulting with the Attorney General. Today's proposed rule change would eliminate that exception, and restore to the Attorney General the plenary authority to authorize and direct federal agencies' DNA collection efforts that Congress vested in him on an overwhelmingly bipartisan basis in the DNA Fingerprint Act. Since Congress' passage of the bipartisan DNA Fingerprint Act, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has built a high-throughput DNA sample processing infrastructure through its Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). The CODIS database is a vital tool for federal, state, and local law enforcement investigations. All fifty states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and federal law enforcement participate in the national sharing of DNA profiles through CODIS. The FBI also has consistently reduced the operational burden for individual federal agencies to collect DNA through technological enhancements. In advance of this rule change, the Department of Justice and DHS have been working collaboratively to initiate a pilot program for the collection of DNA from non-U.S. persons detained by DHS. As with all other DNA samples that federal agencies collect under the authority of the bipartisan DNA Fingerprint Act, the DNA samples that DHS collects from its non-United States person detainees will be entered into the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). The FBI's laboratory has the capacity to handle the increased input from DHS, and its capabilities can be scaled up to meet additional capacity. The FBI will provide DHS with the DNA collection kits, analyze the samples, and ensure that law enforcement agencies use the results in accordance with the FBI's stringent CODIS privacy requirements.

One in Five Dallas Trump Rally Registrants Was Democrat, Campaign Chair Says Posted: 21 Oct 2019 03:30 PM PDT More than one in five people who registered for President Donald Trump's "Keep America Great" campaign rally in Dallas on Oct. 17 were Democrats, according to Trump's campaign manager Brad Parscale. Parscale, whose forte is data analysis, has posted breakdowns of data collected from the registrations from the past several rallies. "Incredible data from last night's Dallas rally," he wrote in an Oct. 18 tweet. The data revealed that nearly 54,000 voters signed up for the event, with almost one in eight (12 percent) who didn't vote in the last four elections and more than one in five (21.4 percent) who identified as Democrats. Eleven percent of the registrants were Hispanic. More
Vocal #NeverTrumper Mitt Romney Continues Assault on President Trump: May Vote to Remove Him Posted: 21 Oct 2019 03:00 PM PDT Mitt Romney really is the absolute worst. This guy just can't stop attacking this president. He sat down with the far left Atlantic to throw a few potshots at President Trump. To Romney, Trump's performance as president is inextricably tangled up in his character. "Berating another person, or calling them names, or demeaning a class of people, not telling the truth—those are not private things," he says, adding: "If during the campaign you pay a porn star $130,000, that now comes into the public domain."… …Romney told me that he does not have an abstract definition of "high crimes and misdemeanors," and that when it comes to identifying impeachable acts, he follows Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart's famous standard for defining hard-core porn: "I'll know it when I see it." Asked if he's seen it yet, Romney told me that he'll make up his mind once he hears all the evidence at the trial: "At this stage, I am strenuously avoiding trying to make any judgment."More

Russia covered up explosion of Skyfall nuclear super-weapon Posted: 21 Oct 2019 02:00 PM PDT Russia covered up the deadly nuclear reactor explosion in August during the salvage at sea of one of Vladimir Putin's new super-weapons, a nuclear-powered cruise missile called Skyfall, a senior State Department official disclosed. The reactor exploded Aug. 8 off the coast of the northern Russian town of Nenoska, killing seven Russians on a barge in the White Sea as they were overseeing the recovery of a sunken Skyfall. The missile had been sitting on the seafloor for about year after a failed flight test, said State Department official Thomas G. DiNanno. "The explosion was caused by the Skyfall experiencing a criticality accident, an uncontrolled nuclear reaction that released a burst of radiation while Russian personnel retrieved it from the seafloor," Mr. DiNanno said in an interview with The Washington Times. The reactor exploded in the Arkhangelsk region in Russia's far north near populated areas and triggered concerns about fallout spreading to the Baltic states of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, as well as in Sweden, Denmark and Finland, he said. "The missile sat on the seabed since its failed test early last year in close proximity to a major population center," Mr. DiNanno said. More
Warren releases plan to overhaul K-12 education Posted: 21 Oct 2019 01:30 PM PDT Sen. Elizabeth Warren on Monday released a plan to overhaul U.S. public schools that includes more money for schools in high-poverty areas and an end to federally-funded charter schools and "high stakes" standardized testing. Ms. Warren would quadruple "Title I" funding for high-poverty schools by providing an additional $450 billion over the next 10 years. She would pay for that and other priorities through her "wealth tax" on assets worth more than $50 billion. Breaking from the Obama administration's efforts on charter schools, Ms. Warren would also end federal funding for the expansion of charter schools, ban for-profit charter schools, and direct the IRS to investigate "nonprofit" schools to make sure they're following the letter of the law. Ms. Warren would push to prohibit the use of standardized testing as a "primary or significant factor" in closing a school, firing a teacher, or making other "high-stakes" decisions. She would also work to increase teacher pay, move to cancel student breakfast and lunch debt, and end "zero-tolerance" school discipline policies. More
Merkel Admits German Multiculturalism Has "Utterly Failed" Posted: 21 Oct 2019 01:00 PM PDT German Chancellor Angela Merkel says her attempt to create a multicultural society has "utterly failed," and that too little had been required of immigrants who refuse to integrate into German culture. Merkel told an audience of young members of her Christian Democrats (CDU) that allowing people of differing cultural backgrounds to live side by side without such integration was a huge mistake, according to Reuters, which notes that approximately four million Muslims live in the country. "This (multicultural) approach has failed, utterly failed," said Merkel during the meeting in Potsdam, south of Berlin. Merkel faces pressure from within her CDU to take a tougher line on immigrants who don't show a willingness to adapt to German society and her comments appeared intended to pacify her critics.More

Sanders plan would mean billionaires taxed more than they earn Posted: 21 Oct 2019 12:00 PM PDT Bernie Sanders' tax plan would impose annual tax rates of well over 100% on the richest 400 Americans, according to his economic advisers, mostly through his new wealth tax. The idea that the federal government should take more from the very wealthy than they earn in a year is a policy innovation, one the Democratic candidate has advanced as part of a sweeping anti-inequality platform. Critics, however, argue that it's unrealistic and would harm the economy by reversing billionaires' incentives to innovate and invest. Emmanuel Saez and Gabriel Zucman, the Berkeley economists who've advised Sanders on his wealth tax plan and the authors of a new book on inequality, calculate on their website that Sanders' tax proposals would result in a 97.5% tax rate for the richest 400 Americans, who have pre-tax incomes above $456.5 million — and that rate would rise above 100%, depending on how the specifics of Sanders' plan were spelled out. Today, in contrast, the tax rate for the same group is 23.1%, they estimate. More
Posted: 21 Oct 2019 11:30 AM PDT "Socialism is: The taking of money (taxes) from some people who work for it and giving it to others who don't work for it. On a grand scale. The vast expansion of freebies doled out by central government. In order to create and sustain dependence. The government protection of favored persons and corporations, permitting them and aiding them to expand their fortunes without limit, regardless of what crimes they commit in the process. (Monsanto would be a fine example.) The squeezing out of those who would compete with the favored persons and corporations. The dictatorship by and for the very wealthy, pretending to be the servant of the masses. The lie that the dictatorship is being run by the masses. The gradual lowering of the standard of living for the overwhelming number of people. The propaganda claiming socialism is the path to a better world for all. In other words, socialism is a protection racket and a long con and a heartless system of elite control, posing as the greatest good. Pro-Trump Group Tells Its Version Of Events Regarding Rally Bus Ordeal Posted: 21 Oct 2019 10:00 AM PDT The pro-Trump group Women for America First said U.S. Coachways canceled two paid-for buses that were supposed to transport supporters to an Oct. 17 anti-impeachment rally. Women for America First and U.S. Coachways said different theories are floating around, but both tell a slightly different version of events. "This story is so ridiculous. We paid. The busy company took $4,000 of our money. Two buses were paid in full, and they even canceled those buses at the last minute," Women for America First chair Amy Kremer told the Daily Caller News Foundation on Saturday. Sheriff: My Deputies Won’t Be in Beto O’Rourke’s Anti-Gun ‘Gestapo’ Posted: 21 Oct 2019 09:30 AM PDT Sheriff Mark Cage of Eddy County, New Mexico, indicates his deputies will not serve in the anti-gun, "personal Gestapo," Robert "Beto" O'Rourke talks about sending around to confiscate guns. O'Rourke has been clear in his support for a "mandatory," government-enforced buyback of all AR-15 and AK-47 rifles. And he has been equally clear on his plans to send law enforcement personal to the homes of those who refuse to hand over their rifles. On October 16, 2019, Breitbart News reported O'Rourke telling MSNBC that law enforcement will visit the non-compliant to "recover" rifles. Sheriff Mark Gage is not in line with O'Rourke's plan. Civil Unrest Is Erupting All Over The World, But Just Wait Until America Joins The Party... Posted: 21 Oct 2019 09:00 AM PDT All over the globe, the mood is turning sour. Anger and frustration are bubbling over, and protests are becoming violent in major cities all across the planet. In some cases economic pain is driving the protests and in other cases political matters are motivating the protesters, and it has been a very long time since we have seen so many angry protests happening all over the world simultaneously. Unfortunately, many believe that what we have seen so far is just the beginning. Global economic conditions are rapidly deteriorating, and as economic pain intensifies that is only going to make everyone more frustrated. And here in the United States, the drama surrounding the potential impeachment of Donald Trump is going to greatly escalate the political tensions that are already deeply dividing this country. No matter how things turn out, a large percentage of the population is likely to be deeply frustrated with the result, and that could very easily lead to tremendous civil unrest. But before we get to Trump, let's take a look at what has been going on around the rest of the world first. In Chile, we are witnessing violent protests unlike anything that we have seen in decades… More

Today, in contrast, the tax rate for the same group is 23.1%, they estimate. More
Fat black professor of gender studies blames Trump for black female obesity Posted: 21 Oct 2019 08:00 AM PDT No, this is not from the Babylon Bee. It actually comes from the Oprah Winfrey Network, and a segment featuring Professor Britney Cooper, who sports a PhD from Emory University and who currently is an associate professor in the Department of Women's and Gender Studies at Rutgers University. With that sort of background, perhaps it isn't surprising to eternalize blame for obesity on racism and seem to indict President Trump for it. In fairness, she only mentions Trump before launching her indictment of racism as the cause of black female obesity. Here are few screen grabs of her subtitled rant, followed by the entire segment embedded in a tweet, in case you want to hear her, the moderator, and the audience all enthusiastically accept the theory that white people in general and President Trump in particular are what make a disproportionate number of black women obese.
Gabbard calls Clinton 'personification of the rot' as war of words heats up Posted: 21 Oct 2019 07:30 AM PDT (Reuters) - An ugly war of words broke out among Democrats on Friday, as Representative Tulsi Gabbard responded angrily to broad hints by Hillary Clinton, the party's 2016 presidential nominee, that Gabbard was being "groomed" to disrupt the 2020 election as a third-party candidate. Gabbard, one of 19 Democrats seeking the party's nomination to run against Republican Donald Trump, on Friday accused Clinton of trying to destroy her reputation and called the former secretary of state the "embodiment of corruption." "You, the queen of warmongers, embodiment of corruption, and personification of the rot that has sickened the Democratic Party for so long, have finally come out from behind the curtain," said Gabbard, a congresswoman from Hawaii who is a favorite of Russian state media as well as many liberals. A 'whim' pays off, custom Trump fishing rods Posted: 21 Oct 2019 07:00 AM PDT Way down North Carolina Route 12 in the tiny village of Hatteras a tackle shop owner and custom fishing rod maker has placed a bet on President Trump. And it's paying dividends. I caught wind of it when I passed by his shop. On his roadside sign: "Custom Trump Rods." Inside, owner Steve Hissey was working on a 10-foot-long surf rod in red, white and blue. More

Study: Poorer Baltimore Neighborhoods Have Larger, Potentially Deadlier Mosquitoes Posted: 21 Oct 2019 06:30 AM PDT As if the economic restraints from a life in poverty aren't crippling enough, a new study finds that low-income urban neighborhoods in Baltimore not only have more mosquitoes, but they're notably larger in size. Such a difference indicates a higher risk of transmitting diseases. Researchers at the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies in New York have been using Baltimore as a testing grounds to study how environmental and social conditions affect the number of disease-carrying mosquitoes. They focused in particular on one species, the tiger mosquito, an invasive species which are especially plentiful in urban areas. They're known to be aggressive day-biters and have been known to transmit several types of viruses, including Zika, dengue fever, chikungunya, Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), and West Nile virus. "More people are living in cities. At the same time, many other species are also adapting to city living," says senior author and Cary Institute disease ecologist Shannon LaDeau in a statement. "Invasive species like the tiger mosquito increasingly thrive in temperate urban areas, living among us and fundamentally altering the risk of local disease emergence. Posted: 21 Oct 2019 06:28 AM PDT For decades now it has been the law that you must turn on your lights ANY time it rains and you use your wipers. That being said, WHY isn't it a law that automobile manufacturers create a switch that turns on your headlights every time you turn on your windshield wipers? I can tell you that I have noticed all too often vehicles driving in the rain without any headlights on. To the point it has become ridiculous. Yesterday it rained its butt off and as I sat outside on my side porch directly on Rt. 50, I'd say one out of every four cars didn't have their headlights on. Now let's look at the other side. One evening my Wife was going to pick up our Grandson at work. One of her headlights had burned out and the State Police pulled her over directly in front of the restaurant our Grandson works at. The next thing she knew there were THREE police officers, (all with their emergency lights on) behind her creating quite a stir. All over one headlight being out. Trust me, it had just gone out and we immediately replaced it that night, no problem. However, if I can sit there on the side porch and watch one out of four cars driving in a very nasty rain and not see ONE cop anywhere, this is ridiculous. So think about it. Have YOU ever seen a cop pull someone over for not having their headlights on in the rain? I can personally answer that as a NO. Yet they sit there running radar all day on Rt. 50 pulling people over for speeding but not headlights in the rain. No matter how you look at it, they created this law for a reason. Many cars without their headlights on don't appear in heavy rain until it's too late. I just wish those legislators that created the headlight law would use their heads and force the auto manufacturers to create the switch that makes your headlights instantly go on when you turn on your wipers.
New Revelation on Hunter Biden Surfaces Posted: 21 Oct 2019 06:15 AM PDT House Democrats' impeachment narrative appears to have veered away from President Donald Trump's alleged push for information on former Vice President Joe Biden even as a State Department official breathed new life into the controversy over the business dealings in Ukraine of Biden's son, Hunter Biden. "This is not just a phone call anymore," former Watergate prosecutor Nick Akerman told The Daily Signal, referring to the July 25 conversation between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. "This looks like a concerted effort." Meanwhile, The Washington Post first reported Friday that career State Department official George Kent told House investigators he raised concerns in early 2015 about the then-vice president's son serving on the board of Burisma Holdings, a Ukraine energy company. He was turned away by a staffer with the vice president's office, the Post said Kent told the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, which has taken the lead on the informal impeachment inquiry. Hunter Biden reportedly was paid $50,000 per month for serving on the board of the Ukrainian natural gas company. Reuters reported Friday that during his five years on the Burisma board, the younger Biden never traveled to Ukraine. More
Court Strikes Down Obama Rule Forcing Doctors to Perform Transgender Surgery Posted: 21 Oct 2019 06:00 AM PDT On Tuesday, a district court judge struck down the Obama administration's since defunct mandate forcing doctors to perform transgender surgery regardless of their religious convictions or conscientious objections. The mandate, handed down by Obama's Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), ironically did not apply to Medicare and Medicaid or to military doctors because the government's own research showed that transgender hormones and surgeries can be harmful. Under Trump, the HHS finalized rules protecting religious freedom, but the Obama mandate remained on the books. The ruling in Franciscan Alliance v. Azar struck down that mandate and upheld the religious freedom of doctors who would refuse to administer hormone therapy and sex reassignment surgery. Some doctors have warned that even the hormones — the less invasive "treatment" — give healthy people a disease. The actual surgery often involves sterilizing a patient for life. Mandating such "treatments" would force doctors to violate the Hippocratic oath. More
Is The Bay Bridge Traffic/Construction Done On Purpose Posted: 21 Oct 2019 05:59 AM PDT Maybe this traffic/construction has been done on purpose for political reasons. Think about it! One side wants a new bridge and the other side says no. One thing is for sure, it will cost an amount of money so big NONE of us would ever be able to figure out if it's real or not. Of course this is how politicians line their pockets. So when you don't get exactly what you want, put up construction signs and create massive delays. The Eastern Shore says hell no to the new bridge. Why not just piss off so many people that they finally give in and throw their support to it. How do you do that, CONSTRUCTION and DELAYS. You have to ask yourselves, do you really believe, (out of nowhere again) that the bridge needs total reconstruction AGAIN? I'm sorry Folks but I smell a very stinky skunk.
Posted: 21 Oct 2019 05:30 AM PDT Hi All, Oh great! We have an excellent rating so the city can borrow $12.48 more million dollars by selling municipal bonds. Now read the article below and see what he's spending the money on. BTW, selling bonds is a loan.... to us. We will have to pay that money off in the future, and what did the "forgotten people" get? Nothing... but, we owe it! Regards, Wayne King City of Salisbury, Maryland October 9 at 6:00 PM · City's Stellar AA Credit Rating Reaffirmed by S&P Global Salisbury—Mayor Jake Day is pleased to announce that the City of Salisbury's AA credit rating has recently been reaffirmed by S&P Global, a leading national source of credit ratings. S&P Global credit their rating to Salisbury's "Strong management, with good financial practices and policies; its adequate economy, with access to a broad and diverse metropolitan statistical area; very strong budgetary flexibility and a very strong institutional framework." "Salisbury's retention of a AA credit rating is a testament to everything each member of our team is doing City-wide to make the bright future of Salisbury a reality," shared Mayor Jake Day. As a result of this highly favorable credit rating, the City successfully issued $12.48 million worth of municipal bonds through Robert W. Baird & Co., at the low interest rate of 1.92%. Nine competitive bids in total were received for the bonds, with interest rates ranging from 1.92% to 2.13%. Proceeds from the sale of the bonds will be used in many important capital improvements around the City. City Director of Finance, Keith Cordrey said "The favorable outcome of the bond sales has a lot to do with S&P Global upholding the City's AA credit rating." Wye River, a financial firm based out of Annapolis, acted as a financial advisor for the sale and commented "The competitive outcome of the bond sale reflects the City's strong credit ratings and ongoing commitment to prudent financial stewardship." Issuing municipal bonds for investors to purchase, helps ensure that City projects are financed and completed. These improvements include those set out in the City's FY2019 and FY2020 budgets such as the main street master plan which is helping to replace the aging infrastructure at the center of the City, as well as all sidewalks and street-scaping, realigning the roadway and incorporating much needed storm water management measures Downtown. Other projects being funded by the bond sale include Zoo administration building improvements, a Field Operations facility expansion, the rehabilitation of the Mill Street Bridge, Urban Greenway improvements, the bicycle master plan, street-scaping and more. By combining this year's bond sale with last year's, the City was able to save hundreds of thousands of dollars in what would have been interest and individual fixed costs for last year's sale. "The large investment amount that the City received yesterday, $12.48 million, shows just how many people believe in the City and the work that is being done here," shared Mayor Jake Day.

California governor pardons 3 convicted immigrants to help block deportations Posted: 21 Oct 2019 04:00 AM PDT California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Friday he's pardoning three immigrants who've been convicted of crimes as part of an effort to protect them from deportation to their home countries. The three men -- originally from El Salvador, Iran and Cambodia --- broke the law as teens or young adults, served their sentences and have taken steps to rehabilitate themselves, the governor's office said. But Newsom's pardons do not completely shield the men from deportation. The move instead erases the mens' criminal records to prevent past offenses from being considered in their deportation cases. All three men live in Los Angeles County and were brought to the U.S. legally as children, the governor's office said. "The Governor regards clemency as an important part of the criminal justice system that can incentivize accountability and rehabilitation, increase public safety by removing counterproductive barriers to successful reentry, and correct unjust results in the legal system," a news release said.
