Fourteen at nuke base probed for illegal drug activity Posted: 23 Mar 2016 09:00 PM PDT WASHINGTON (AP) — Fourteen members of an Air Force unit responsible for guarding nuclear missiles in Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska are under investigation for possible illegal drug activity, including cases involving cocaine use, defense officials said Friday. The probe is a fresh blow to a nuclear missile corps that has been under intense scrutiny in recent years for a string of lapses in training and personal conduct, first revealed by The Associated Press. The Air Force has said repeatedly over the past year that it is making significant changes aimed at lifting morale and improving performance. More |
Ex-State Dept worker to be sentenced for ‘sextortion’ scheme Posted: 23 Mar 2016 08:30 PM PDT ATLANTA (AP) — A former U.S. State Department employee was sentenced Monday to serve nearly five years in federal prison for accessing young women's online accounts from his computer at the American embassy in London and threatening to expose their sexually explicit photos. Michael C. Ford, 36, sent "phishing" emails to women, specifically targeting members of sororities and aspiring models. He claimed to be a member of Google's account deletion team, which doesn't exist, to get them to hand over their passwords, prosecutors said. More |

Beyond Yogurt: Six Healthy Foods Loaded With Probiotics Posted: 23 Mar 2016 07:30 PM PDT We tend to think that the freshest foods are best. But now research has found that some of the most beneficial foods aren't farm-to-table items but are actually fermented products loaded with probiotics. Yogurt may be the best known of such foods, but many others — including pickles, miso, and sauerkraut — also provide living cultures that keep our digestive systems healthy and our immune systems strong. Since the gut is the largest part of our immune system, it pays to eat healing foods and shun sugars and refined carbohydrates that cause damage. "Scientists have found that trillions of microbacterial cells live in our intestinal flora," Jeff Cox, author of "The Essential Book of Fermentation" tells Newsmax Health. "They aren't just passive hitchhikers who've found a warm place to live. They are intimately connected to our immune system. They are connected to our brain and guide our moods. They take an active part in digesting our food, reducing it to nutrients that can be absorbed through the intestinal walls." Cox explains that maintaining a healthy gut is necessary for life, much as microbes are necessary for soil to become a living organism that feeds the plants that grow in it. "What makes healthy intestinal flora or a soil microbial community? |
As Your Teen's Body Changes, So Should His Diet Posted: 23 Mar 2016 07:00 PM PDT Most parents expect their role to change as their kids hit their teen years. But many don't realize quite how much their children's age affects the way they need to be fed. Countless wonderful transformations occur inside the bodies of tweens and teens, and many directly affect the way they eat or relate to food. After infancy, adolescence is the second most critical time for nutritious eating. So some rethinking is in order. What's changing? • Hormone surges can make them moody, trigger sugar cravings and cause skin breakouts. • During major growth spurts, kids have increased caloric requirements and may seem insatiable. • Sports, extracurricular activities and homework schedules make it harder for them to sit down for a regularly scheduled family meal. • Sleep patterns change; if kids wake up later, they may not be hungry for breakfast before school. • Teens and tweens spend more time away from home, which means they eat more of their meals and snacks with peers. • Kids this age are - appropriately - in the process of separating from their parents. Some may wage food wars: complaining about foods they used to eat happily, demanding junk food just to be contrary or adopting a specific diet (Paleo, vegetarian) that's different from the rest of the family's. Absolutely all of this is happening in our house, along with the fact that my boys watch a lot of sports and are unquestionably lured by the sports drinks, protein powders and muscle-building products advertised. My smoothies and homemade granola bars no longer cut it. These adolescent changes are normal, yet this doesn't mean we parents should abandon our noble intentions to feed our kids well. Five At-Home Treatments For Headaches Posted: 23 Mar 2016 06:30 PM PDT You're sitting at your desk, in your home, or running errands, and all of a sudden you get this sharp pain in your head — a dreaded headache. According to the World Health Organization, 47 percent of the adult population has had a headache at least once in the past year. They are sometimes so debilitating, especially with the throbbing and intense pains. And when they don't seem to subside, what do you do? Grab that bottle of aspirin, ibuprofen, or other pain reliever to help ease your suffering. However, instead of turning to pharmaceuticals, try some of these at-home remedies. In some cases, combining these treatments with an oral pain reliever might help, but speak to your doctor or health care provider before starting or changing any regimen. 1. Peppermint Oil: It has been used as a natural remedy and treatment for headaches because of its healing properties. It is a hybrid between watermint and spearmint and activates cold-sensitive receptors in the skin, giving a cooling feeling that will help to soothe your headache. Read more here |

Subject: Few Women Show Interest in Infantry Jobs Posted: 23 Mar 2016 05:30 PM PDT Three years after the Pentagon ordered the military services to prepare to open all ground combat jobs to women, few of them have expressed interest in a career in the infantry or other newly opened positions. As part of an experimental program, 233 women who completed Marine Corps infantry and other ground combat schools are eligible for those jobs, but none has requested a formal transfer. The Army sees similar results. "We're not expecting a high propensity for infantry or armor," said Lt. Col. Jerry Pionk, an Army spokesman. The Marine Corps initially expected about 200 women a year to enter jobs previously closed to women, including a small number in the infantry. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said opening the jobs would improve combat effectiveness because the military would draw from a larger pool of applicants for the infantry and other specialties. "To succeed in our mission of national defense, we cannot afford to cut ourselves off from half the country's talents and skills," Carter said. Military officials said the interest among women in previously all-male jobs may change over time, citing the gradual progress in expanding earlier opportunities for women in the military. "Incrementally over time, it's been one success after another," Pionk said. It remains to be seen whether this time will be different. More |
Atheist Group Protests Middle School's Crusader Mascot Posted: 23 Mar 2016 05:00 PM PDT The Freedom From Religion Foundation is protesting the mascot of the Ken Caryl Middle School in Littleton, CO. The mascot is a Christian crusader. In a March 2 letter sent to Dan McMinimee, the superintendent of Jeffco county public schools, FFR attorney Andrew Seidel argued that the mascot is an inappropriate symbol: It is our understanding that the Ken Caryl Middle School mascot is "The Crusaders." KCMS depicts the mascot as a cloaked knight holding a shield and sword. There are red Latin crosses on both the knight's tunic and his shield. Please see the enclosed screenshot. A white mantle with a red cross is the unmistakable attire of a member of the Knights Templar. The Knights Templar, originally known as Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ sand the Temple of Solomon, were among the most feared fighting units of the Crusades. More here |
Teacher Charged With Sexual Abuse of a Student Posted: 23 Mar 2016 04:50 PM PDT Middletown, DE – Delaware State Police have arrested a 32 year old music teacher after it was learned that she was sending sexually explicit images to a male student. The investigation began in January of 2016 after administrators of the Everett Meredith Middle School, located at 505 S. Broad Street, Middletown, were contacted by the mother of a 13 year old male student after she had found sexually explicit video and images of a female teacher on his cell phone. The school administration then contacted the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Youth Aide Unit. After further investigation, which included multiple interviews and examination of physical evidence, it was determined that the teacher, Nicole D. Veneroso, 32, of Newark, who was employed as a music teacher at the school, had begun a relationship with the male student in December of 2015. During the relationship, which continued until the discovery of the images, Veneroso had sent the student numerous sexually explicit photographs, videos, and text messages. Veneroso was arrested by detectives this afternoon, Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Troop 2. She was charged with Dealing in Child Porn, Sexual Solicitation of a Child under 18, Criminal Solicitation 2nd Degree, 5 counts of Providing Obscenity to a Child under 18, 3 counts of Sexual Abuse of a Child by a Person of Trust 2nd Degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Veneroso was arraigned at JP Court 2 and committed to the Delores Baylor Correctional Institution in default of $53,250 secured bail. |
Why Did Kerry Lie About Israeli Blame? Posted: 23 Mar 2016 04:30 PM PDT In testimony before the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, Secretary of State John Kerry performed a post-mortem on the recent collapse of the Middle East peace talks. According to Kerry, the Palestinian refusal to keep negotiating past April and their decision to flout their treaty commitments by returning to efforts to gain recognition for their non-existent state from the United Nations was all the fault of one decision made by Israel. As the New York Times reports: Secretary of State John Kerry said Tuesday that Israel's announcement of 700 new apartments for Jewish settlers in East Jerusalem precipitated the bitter impasse in peace negotiations last week between Israel and the Palestinians. While Mr. Kerry said both sides bore responsibility for "unhelpful" actions, he noted that the publication of tenders for housing units came four days after a deadline passed for Israel to release Palestinian prisoners and complicated Israel's own deliberations over whether to extend the talks. "Poof, that was the moment," Mr. Kerry said in testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Poof? To say that this evaluation of the situation is disingenuous would be the understatement of the century. Kerry knows very well that the negotiations were doomed once the Palestinians refused to sign on to the framework for future talks he suggested even though it centered them on the 1967 lines that they demand as the basis for borders. Why? Because Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas wouldn't say the two little words —"Jewish state"—that would make it clear he intended to end the conflict. More here |

The link below is a virtual wall of all those lost during the Vietnam war with the names, bio's and other information on our lost heroes. Those who remember that time frame, or perhaps lost friends or family can look them up on this site. Pass the link on to others, as many knew wonderful people whose names are listed. The Vietnam Virtual Wall link: http://www.virtualwall.org/iStates.htm Some interesting fact about the warriors listed on the Vietnam Wall that most of us never knew: In signing of the peace accord in Vietnam January 27, 1973, some things you should know about the WALL. A little history most people will never know. Interesting Veterans Statistics off the Vietnam Memorial Wall There are 58,267 names now listed on that polished black wall, including those added in 2010. The names are arranged in the order in which they were taken from us by date and within each date the names are alphabetized. It is hard to believe it is 36 years since the last casualties. The first known casualty was Richard B. Fitzgibbon, of North Weymouth , Mass. Listed by the U.S. Department of Defense as having been killed on June 8, 1956. His name is listed on the Wall with that of his son, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Richard B. Fitzgibbon III, who was killed on Sept. 7, 1965. - There are three sets of fathers and sons on the Wall. 39,996 on the Wall were just 22 or younger. 8,283 were just 19 years old. The largest age group, 33,103 were 18 years old. 12 soldiers on the Wall were 17 years old. 5 soldiers on the Wall were 16 years old. One soldier, PFC Dan Bullock was 15 years old. 997 soldiers were killed on their first day in Vietnam .. 1,448 soldiers were killed on their last day in Vietnam .. 31 sets of brothers are on the Wall. Thirty one sets of parents lost two of their sons. 54 soldiers attended Thomas Edison High School in Philadelphia . I wonder why so many from one school 8 Women are on the Wall. Nursing the wounded. 244 soldiers were awarded the Medal of Honor during the Vietnam War; 153 of them are on the Wall. Beallsville, Ohio with a population of 475 lost 6 of her sons. West Virginia had the highest casualty rate per capita in the nation. There are 711 West Virginians on the Wall. The Marines of Morenci - They led some of the scrappiest high school football and basketball teams that the little Arizona copper town of Morenci (pop. 5,058) had ever known and cheered. They enjoyed roaring beer busts. In quieter moments, they rode horses along the Coronado Trail, stalked deer in the Apache National Forest. And in the patriotic camaraderie typical of Morenci's mining families, the nine graduates of Morenci High enlisted as a group in the Marine Corps. Their service began on Independence Day, 1966. Only 3 returned home. The Buddies of Midvale - LeRoy Tafoya, Jimmy Martinez, Tom Gonzales were all boyhood friends and lived on three consecutive streets in Midvale, Utah on Fifth, Sixth and Seventh avenues. They lived only a few yards apart. They played ball at the adjacent sandlot ball field. And they all went to Vietnam. In a span of 16 dark days in late 1967, all three would be killed. LeRoy was killed on Wednesday, Nov. 22, the fourth anniversary of John F. Kennedy's assassination. Jimmy died less than 24 hours later on Thanksgiving Day. Tom was shot dead assaulting the enemy on Dec. 7, Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. The most casualty deaths for a single day was on January 31, 1968 ~ 245 deaths. The most casualty deaths for a single month was May 1968 - 2,415 casualties were incurred. For most Americans who read this they will only see the numbers that the Vietnam War created. To those of us who survived the war, and to the families of those who did not, we see the faces, we feel the pain that these numbers created. We are, until we too pass away, haunted with these numbers, because they were our friends, fathers, husbands, wives, sons and daughters. There are no noble wars, just noble warriors. |
Subject: Kasich Says 'Path to Legalization' Is Not Amnesty Posted: 23 Mar 2016 03:30 PM PDT Ohio Gov. John Kasich says his immigration plan "is a reasonable approach, but not a path to citizenship." On several of the Sunday shows, Kasich explained again what he will and will not do. He said he believes his guest worker/path to legalization plan will be accepted both by the American people and by the Congress, even though the Republican-led House rejected a similar plan in 2013. "I think we need to finish the border," Kasich told "Fox News Sunday." "And once it's finished, people cannot sneak in. They shouldn't sneak in now. They've got to...be sent home. "We should have a guest worker program. And for the 11.5 million who are here illegally, if they've not committed a crime since they've been here, I would give them a path to legalization where they pay a fine, back taxes, delay in any kind of benefits they get. MS-13 Gang Killings Linked to Immigrant Surge Posted: 23 Mar 2016 03:00 PM PDT The notoriously violent MS-13 street gang, known for slashing victims to death with knives and machetes, is reviving its brutal brand of violence to reassert its dominance in the Washington metropolitan area — with authorities linking at least eight homicides in Virginia and Maryland over the past year to the gang. The recent uptick in violence can be traced to a failed gang truce in El Salvador and, in part, to a surge of unaccompanied Central American children who entered the United States last year to flee violence at home, according to gang analysts. There is concern over the degree to which MS-13, also known as Mara Salvatrucha, has exploited an immigration policy that over the past two years has allowed waves of migrant children to enter the United States. In one of the eight recent killings with MS-13 ties, three young men were charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old in Loudoun County, Virginia. They were identified as having entered the United States illegally in 2013 as unaccompanied children who later skipped immigration hearings. Analysts in gang intervention say scores of recently arrived Central American children make prime recruiting targets for established gangs in the region. "They are certainly susceptible. They are new, they have very little family, they don't know the language very well," said Fairfax County gang prevention coordinator Ed Ryan. "They are looking for someone who looks like them, talks like them." More |
Alternative Health Care Flourishes Posted: 23 Mar 2016 02:30 PM PDT Consumers seek solutions to either unmet needs or alternatives to a substandard product or service. A great example of this maxim is this: Participants in health care cost-sharing ministries have more than doubled in number since ObamaCare's inception in March 2010. Before ObamaCare, there were faith-based risk pools such as Samaritan Ministries International, Medi-Share and Christian Healthcare Ministries. A hundred years ago, such mutual-aid societies covered one-third of American men before the welfare state saw to its decline. But while ObamaCare outlaws any new such ventures, membership has exploded for the ones grandfathered in under the law. Samaritan alone grew 33% last year, and is more than double its size in 2013. With membership in these nonprofit organizations now surpassing 500,000, all credit rests with the so-called "Affordable Care Act." That monstrosity was passed without a single Republican vote and signed into law by Barack Obama on March 23, 2010 — six years ago this week. From their inception in the early nineties, these organizations were growing at a rate of no more than 10% annually, until the Left weaponized the IRS to mandate the purchase of a service (health insurance). In other words, until Obama decided to play the good liberal Samaritan — helping the sick by forcing them to buy health insurance. The health care cost-sharing agreements in these ministries work with a monthly premium, sometimes as low as $150 per month. Individuals and families are matched with others to create a risk pool of participants who contract to reimburse medical expenses from an approved list. The patient/consumer bears the financial responsibility to shop for the best pricing and to pay for services rendered. Imagine, market-driven health care that makes the patient the customer. More |

There is a meeting tomorrow at the Civic Center at 6:00. --SEE ATTACHMENT-- There is also a meeting April 5 at 6:00 at the county council. This is such crap (pardon the pun) all the families around here trying their best to make a living growing chickens like sharecroppers for large corporations as if they were serfs. Now we are going to experience just what globalization is. The corporations are cutting out the grower and mechanizing the growing process. Any labor that they need will not be your neighbors teenager, it will be some immigrant brought in on a work visa at best and at worst a Muslim refugee that we will pay for. I would appreciate if you could put a spot on your blog letting people know specifically what is happening over here on Walston Switch Road. Also, please let people know that this isn't just some neighborhood people complaining about their selfish problems, this is a symptom of a much larger problem that is destroying our way of life and our society. 3 Avoidable Errors That Could Upend Your Retirement Plans Posted: 23 Mar 2016 01:00 PM PDT As older Americans approach retirement, many may be realizing their financial planning isn't what it should have been. That could mean they need to postpone retirement – or abandon the idea altogether. "Most people don't spend much time even thinking about retirement," says Stephen Ng, author of "10 Financial Mistakes You Should Avoid: Strategies Designed to Help Keep Your Money Safe and Growing" (www.stephenngfg.com). "They see it as a far-off time when they will have magically accumulated the money they need to jet around the world, pay for their grandchildren's education, or otherwise have fun." That leaves them unprepared for the reality, Ng says. They may need to work part-time just to get by. It's possible they will outlive their money. "There's no reason to work hard your whole life, but end up without the money you could have had because you failed to avoid common mistakes people make," Ng says. He says three examples of avoidable errors are: • Failing to understand taxation. Most money is taxable right away, but in some cases, such as with individual retirement accounts, taxes can be deferred. A third category, Ng says, is tax-free money. Examples of tax-free investments include municipal bonds, life insurance proceeds and 529 education savings plans. "Your goal should be to shift as much taxable money as possible into the tax-deferred or tax-free categories," he says. • Acting without enough specialized advice. You might assume one financial advisor could handle all your investment needs. But that's not necessarily the case, Ng says. The strongest plans usually benefit from multiple specialists. An eldercare attorney could be helpful for those 60 or older. A certified public accountant could assist you with tax-avoidance strategies. An estate-planning attorney can help minimize estate and inheritance taxes. • Failing to appreciate the longevity risk. Medical advances allow people to live longer, but that creates a problem. Americans today are more likely than previous generations to outlive their money. They also are more likely to need a nursing home or some other form of long-term care, which can be expensive. "It's important to ask yourself whether you have enough money to handle expenses for as long as you live," Ng says. "Do you have enough to cover inflation? To cover long-term care? To cover healthcare?" The sooner people address the longevity risk, he says, the more prepared they may be to live a rich life. Ng insists there's still time for those nearing retirement to make amends – at least to some degree – if they haven't planned for what lies ahead. "I can't stress this enough," Ng says. "It's never too late to formulate a plan. We can't change the past, so the time to get started is now." County Executive Announces Well Attended, Informative Poultry Forum Posted: 23 Mar 2016 12:43 PM PDT The Poultry Forum held last night at the Wicomico County Youth and Civic Center was attended by more than 500 residents. Governor Hogan's office assembled a dynamic panel of experts on the environment, health, and agriculture who were prepared to give an overview of their responsibilities and then answer questions from the audience. The meeting lasted two hours. Two of the main concerns that the public has been speaking to the council about is the risk to the Paleo Channel and the health risks to the citizens. MDE explained that the poultry houses are all undercover so there isn't a risk to the Paleo Channel. A question was asked about the comparison of a multi-house poultry farm with a 20 house housing development on private septic systems and the experts shared that the housing development provided a risk due to the waste water from the septic systems. Also stated that the amount of water usage of these poultry houses is so much less than crop growing and there is no declining water level in the aquifers that service Wicomico County. Questions about the health risks from these farms were asked and the Dr. Mitchell from DHMH stated there is no evidence of cancer clusters being caused by poultry operations. Airborne particulates can be a determent to someone with asthma but the doctor explained it is dependent on the individual and poultry operations can't be blamed as an overall cause. This forum was to provide factual information about health concerns and the environment. The other concerns are things involving zoning which is a local issue. The County Council has a meeting scheduled for Monday, March 28, 2016 at 10 AM to address the local issues. |
This Obama Humiliation Now Set in Stone Posted: 23 Mar 2016 12:30 PM PDT Remember when Iranian troops seized American troops on the eve of the State of the Union address and paraded them around like a trophy? Our peace at all costs president explained that this was a rescue mission, not an act of aggression, and told us to be grateful, hoping we'd forget in a few months. For weeks, the Iranian regime shoved it in our faces, and we got to see the humiliation and terror suffered by our troops. The American people may have moved on, but Iran sure hasn't. The rogue nation is now making the Obama Administration look even more foolish; they're memorializing the capture in stone. As the Navy Times notes: The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps is reportedly planning to erect a statue commemorating its capture and brief detention of 10 U.S. Navy sailors who cut through Iranian waters in the Persian Gulf. "The statue is likely to be built on Kharg, a small Iranian island in the Persian Gulf not far from where the sailors were captured," according to The Telegraph, which cited Fadari's comments to Iran's Defense Press news agency. While Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has taken to Twitter to promote anti-U.S. sentiment since the American sailors' capture, the English-language account believed to belong to Khamenei hasn't made mention of the statue. The same goes for the unverified English accounts belonging to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif. This is another in a long line of foreign policy embarrassments for our woefully unqualified commander in chief. Source: AAN |
Myth Busting Biden's AIPAC Speech Posted: 23 Mar 2016 12:00 PM PDT WASHINGTON-- Vice President Joe Biden addressed the 18,000 plus delegates at the AIPAC Policy Conference Sunday evening. Unfortunately, Biden chose to perpetuate numerous myths in his remarks. MYTH: Regarding Iran's nuclear weapons program, "We're no longer dealing with hypotheticals." Two-thirds of Iran's centrifuges have been removed. FACT: Two-thirds of the centrifuges inside one of Iran's nuclear facilities, Fordo, have been removed in recent months, along with all nuclear material. According to the nuclear deal reached last year, "The facility is banned from any nuclear-related work and is being converted to other uses, eliminating the threat that prompted the attack plan, at least for the next 15 years." MYTH: "Under this deal, Iran will never be allowed to pursue nuclear weapons." FACT: According to Secretary of State John Kerry, the Joint Plan of Action will destroy the 20 percent enriched uranium. However, this is false. The 20 percent enriched uranium was going to be turned into an oxide making it inoperative. That process is chemically reversible, which allowed Iran to hold its 20 percent uranium that can be turned into active chemical reactions at any time. When the deal was announced, syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer said, "This is a sham from beginning to end. It's the worst deal since Munich." The regime itself counters Rice's claim that Iran has not built new centrifuges. Just two months after reaching the temporary nuclear deal in November 2013, Iran's nuclear chief boasted the ongoing construction of a new generation of centrifuges for uranium enrichment. In actuality, the temporary deal neglected to prohibit Iran from building new centrifuges. MYTH: To deter Iran's nuclear program, the US has allied with "reasonable partners, not just Israel." FACT: Biden failed to list those "reasonable partners." MYTH: If Iran violates the deal, the US will act.FACT: Last week, Iran launched ballistic missiles capable of striking American allies, especially Israel, in the Middle East. The radical Islamic regime stamped the weapon with a Hebrew translation of the slogan "Israel must be wiped off the face of the earth." There has yet to be a reaction from the US, such as enacting sanctions or military action. MYTH: "My good friend President Netanyahu…" FACT: Along with President Obama and other members of the administration, Biden refused to meet with Israel's prime minister at this time last year. Then-Speaker of the House John Boehner invited Netanyahu to address Congress about the dangers of a nuclear Iran. Along with members of the administration, 58 congressmen (all Democrats) boycotted the prime minister's speech. MYTH: Regarding achieving the two-state solution between Israelis and Palestinians, Theodore Herzl said, "If you will it, it is no dream." FACT: That statement by one of Zionism's forefathers isn't related to achieving a two-state solution. Herzl said that with regards to achieving a Jewish state after thousands of years of Jews persecution by European, capped by the Holocaust during World War II. MYTH: Both sides "need to take meaningful steps" toward peace deal. FACT: The Palestinians have rejected Israeli offers for statehood three times. The most recent offer was in 2008 by then-Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. The offer would have annexed major Israeli blocs and, in return, given equivalent Israeli territory to the Palestinians, and would have divided Jerusalem. MYTH: The US provides Israel with "the best [military] equipment available." FACT: According to a report published by Cato Institute: While bilateral defense cooperation has helped boost the Israeli arms industry, the conditions on American aid do the opposite. Since in some cases the Israeli government has to go with U.S. weapons even if the domestic products were better, cheaper or both, efficient Israeli producers lose government contracts and consequent economies of scale. Israeli companies also have to purchase American raw materials, which raise the costs of Israeli weapons in world markets. MYTH: Regarding boycotting Israel, "To marginalize one group imperializes us all." FACT: Though the Boycott, Divest, and Sanction (BDS) movement is bigoted, this statement is hypocritical of an administration that has shown little support for military veterans, police officers, and others who serve and protect. Last month in Commentary, Manhattan Institute fellow Heather Mac Donald wrote, "Simply put, the man [Barack Obama] twice elected to the country's highest office routinely and repeatedly charges that cops and the courts are awash in systematic racial bias…The negative effect of such rhetoric on the morale of the police, on the perceived legitimacy of the criminal-justice system, and on the atmosphere in which police operate is incalculable. Over and over again, the commander in chief of our armed forces has told the nation's constabulary he views them as constitutional blackguards." Regarding the administration's treatment of combat veterans, this month the Department of Veterans Affairs began publishing its findings of investigations launched two years ago into charges that VA medical facilities adjusted patient appointment schedules to meet department standards. The Office of the Inspector General released 15 reports on scheduling problems at VA hospitals and clinics in Florida, Iowa and Minnesota on Monday, following complaints from members of Congress and the media that the office was sitting on the investigations, which were completed in 2014. The reports found procedural aberrations at nine of the 15 facilities investigated, but the VA inspector general noted that in most cases, patient care was unaffected and managers did not direct employees to manipulate the wait times. This State Will Let Your Children Pick Their Bathroom and Much More Posted: 23 Mar 2016 11:30 AM PDT Michigan's State Board of Education has drafted a guidance that would push the state's schools to allow all students, regardless of parental or doctoral input, to choose their gender, name, pronouns, and bathrooms. Spearheaded by board president John C. Austin and signed by state superintendent Brian Whiston, the guidance informs Michigan public schools that only the students themselves–i.e. not their parents or doctors–can determine what their individual gender identities are. "The responsibility for determining a student's gender identity rests with the student. Outside confirmation from medical or mental health professionals, or documentation of legal changes, is not needed," the guidance states. Gender identity is defined in the guidance as "a person's deeply held internal sense or psychological knowledge of their own gender, regardless of the biological sex they were assigned at birth." What Hillary Clinton Said at AIPAC Posted: 23 Mar 2016 11:00 AM PDT Former Secretary of State and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton addressed the audience at the American Public Affairs Committee's policy conference this morning to reassure her commitment to strengthen the US' relationship with Israel, while also taking jabs at Republican frontrunner Donald Trump. Clinton announced one of the first things she would do in the White House, if elected, is meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. She added "Israel's security is non-negotiable" and those who do deem otherwise "have no business being president." Regarding the existential nuclear threat Israel faces from Iran and what she called "radical extremism," Clinton said, "Walking away is not an option." Clinton took jabs at Trump and said that the US cannot be "neutral," which is a term the GOP frontrunner has used regarding his stance on the conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians. Clinton inaccurately quoted the stamp placed on the ballistic missile Iran launched last week, which read, "Israel must be wiped off the face of the earth." She said the stamp on the weapon read, "Israel must be wiped from the pages of history." The former Secretary of State said, "We cannot cede mantle of global leadership to anyone else." She added the US-Israel relationship stronger "than the headlines try to make you believe." Clinton called for the U.S. to provide Israel with "the most sophisticated" military equipment, despite a report published by Cato Institute: While bilateral defense cooperation has helped boost the Israeli arms industry, the conditions on American aid do the opposite. This year's policy conference consists of 18,000 plus attendees, the largest ever according to the pro-Israel lobbying group. Source: AAN |

Border Agents: DHS Has ‘No Intention’ of Deporting Illegals Posted: 23 Mar 2016 10:30 AM PDT A top Homeland Security official told Border Patrol agents the Obama administration has "no intention of deporting" many of the illegal immigrants caught trying to sneak into the country, ordering instead that they be released so they don't clog up the courts, a leading advocate for agents testified to Congress. Brandon Judd, president of the National Border Patrol Council, said the orders are a new "catch and release" policy, which he said "amounts to amnesty" because it means many illegal immigrants are never asked to leave the country. It also suggests the Border Patrol is being ordered to break President Obama's own enforcement priorities, which say new illegal immigrants — defined as those who came after Dec. 31, 2013 — are priorities for deportation, and are supposed to be arrested and processed. Mr. Judd said they took their case directly to Deputy Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who told them not to bother. "Deputy Secretary Mayorkas told us that the Border Patrol needs to focus its resources towards the worst of the worst. He said that by prioritizing those we choose to deport, we will help alleviate the burden on an already overburdened court system," Mr. Judd recalled. Mr. Judd, in the written testimony released Monday, said agents have also been ordered not to interview the illegal immigrant children still streaming across the southwest border. "This is verbal direction from direct supervisors and not a written policy. Agents are being told not to ask why minors are crossing," he wrote. More |
Former Lesbian: ‘Five Unelected Judges’ Made Sexual Orientation ‘Our Nation’s Reigning Idol’ Posted: 23 Mar 2016 10:00 AM PDT (CNSNews.com) – A self-described former lesbian and feminist said on Wednesday that the Supreme Court's decision in theObergefell v. Hodges case declaring states' ban on same-sex marriage unconstitutional, created the "nation's reigning idol." "When five unelected Supreme Court judges appended sexual orientation to the 14th Amendment in the 2015 Obergefell decision declaring state bans on gay marriage unconstitutional, sexual orientation metastasized from a description of perceived sexual desires to our nation's reigning idol," Rosaria Butterfield said in a lecture at the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. "Idols seduce," Butterfield said. "Idols demand allegiance. "Idols steal worship from God, and idols destroy faith in God," Butterfield said. Butterfield, a former tenured professor at Syracuse University, converted to Christianity in 1999 and has written several books, including "The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert" and "Openness Unhindered, Further Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert on Sexual Identity and Union with Christ." "The Obergefell decision established into law the idea that our sexuality is inseparable from our spirit; that it captures the truth about who we really are and that to deny its expression violates the core of our identity," Butterfield said. Congress to feds: It’s not OK to view porn at work Posted: 23 Mar 2016 09:53 AM PDT Yet another member of Congress is pressing the House Appropriations Committee to get tough on federal employees who watch pornography at work. If it weren't for a few infamous former Environmental Protection Agency employees, this might be a solution in search of a problem. But Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.) said one example is already too many. In a letter to committee chairman Harold Rogers (R-Ky.) and ranking member Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.), Jones said language in the fiscal 2016 omnibus spending bill meant to keep feds from watching porn at work doesn't apply to all agencies. Jones said the porn-proscribing clause in the omnibus bill was left out of a part that outlines funding for a division of agencies that includes the departments of Defense, State and Interior. More |
How to Get Retailers to Match Prices Posted: 23 Mar 2016 09:45 AM PDT Remember the days when you had to drive from store to store to compare prices, or just go to the retailer that typically had the lowest prices and hope that you were getting the best deal? Those days are over. Now it's as easy as using a smart phone with a price-comparison app, such as RedLaser or ShopSavvy, to scan the barcode of an item and see if another retailer is offering it at a lower price. Then you can simply ask a clerk if the store where you're shopping will match the other retailer's price. Okay, so maybe it's really not so easy. Plenty of stores have price-matching policies, but sometimes consumers have to jump through a lot of hoops to get retailers to match their competitors' prices. Policies vary from store to store, making it difficult to know what to expect from one to another. And most are fraught with exclusions. So is it worth it to even attempt price matching? It certainly is if you're buying a big-ticket item and the other store that's selling it for less is miles away - requiring you to give up your time and drain your car's gas tank to get there - says Louis DeNicola, who examined stores' price-matching policies for Cheapism.com. You can improve your chances of a successful price-matching outcome if you follow these tips: Know stores' requirements. Don't assume that getting a store to match a competitor's price is as easy as showing a sales clerk your phone with the competitor's price displayed on it through an app or online search. Many stores require consumers to show a competitor's print ad with the lower price, DeNicola says. Even at stores that don't require an ad for price matching, such as Walmart, sales clerks sometimes will ask for one, he says. So before you attempt to price match, call the store or check its Web site for its price-match policy to see what proof you need of a competitor's price. Read more here |
This Is What Hillary Will Give Illegals If She's Elected Posted: 23 Mar 2016 09:37 AM PDT Hillary Clinton wants to use Obamacare to provide health coverage for illegal immigrants. In an interview with Anderson Cooper as part of CNN's presidential primetime event Monday, Clinton said, "It's not only the right and moral thing to do for them, it's also important that we keep ourselves healthy and public health requires that." Cooper asked Clinton, "[A]re you in favor of extending Obamacare to undocumented immigrants" and the former Secretary of State replied, "There are two steps here. If someone can afford to pay for an insurance policy off the exchanges that were set up under the Affordable Care Act, I support that." Source: Daily Caller |
Four illegal immigrants charged in rape, beating; two were previously deported Posted: 23 Mar 2016 09:30 AM PDT Four illegal aliens from Guatemala are charged in the rape of a Massachusetts woman and the vicious beating of her boyfriend, and one of the suspects was arrested less than a month before the attack -- but he was not reported to immigration authorities. Federal immigration officials have requested detainers on Elmer Diaz, 19, Ariel Diaz, 24, Adan Diaz, 32, and Marlon Josue Jarquin-Felipe, 27, following their arrests in the March 13 incident in Framingham, The Boston Herald reported. The three Diaz men are brothers. Adan had previously been arrested for drunken driving on Feb. 22 and Ariel was arrested for drunken driving in December, but immigration officials told The Herald they were never made aware that either was in custody. Ariel was also convicted of drunken driving and disorderly conduct and sent back to Guatemala in May 2014, but he re-entered the U.S. at some point, Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Shawn Neudauer told The Herald. Jarquin-Felipe was also deported to Guatemala in 2014, but managed to again cross the border to the U.S. undetected. More here |

TTYL: Texting Is Disconnecting You From Your Family Posted: 23 Mar 2016 09:15 AM PDT While driving the other night, I noticed a couple in the distance. They were taking a relaxing evening stroll. How great that this couple took the time and decided to enjoy each other's company, I thought to myself. Then as I drove by, I noticed that both of them were on their BlackBerries, texting away. Today we live next to each other, but reside in our very own world. There have been countless articles discussing the impact of cell phones and texting on our children's lives. Concerned parents attend workshops where we are taught how to monitor access to the internet and movies on our kids' phones. There are worries about compromising pictures that are sent, and the effect of constant texting. I believe we need to be just as concerned about the family environment we're creating as we parents become addicted to our phones and BlackBerries. How often do we pick up our children at school holding our phones in one hand and greeting our children with a distracted hello as we finish our conversation? "Just one more minute," we motion, with a cautionary finger pointed in the air. If we are so fortunate to have children who want to tell us about their day, how can we blow it by texting and talking to those who are not even with us? How many times do we go to a restaurant and believe that we're spending great family time? But if you look closely, you'll find parents and children alike with their eyes engrossed as they stare downward. Each individual is looking at their screen texting others while ignoring the family that sits right beside them. Unknowingly, we have built invisible barriers that obstruct our connecting with the ones we are supposed to love most. More here |
House Terrorism Chair: Our Strategy Against ISIS Is a Complete Failure Posted: 23 Mar 2016 09:07 AM PDT (CNSNews) – In the wake of Tuesday's deadly terrorist attack in Brussels, the chairman of the House Subcommittee on Terrorism, Nonproliferation and Trade called the Obama administration's strategy against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) "a complete failure." "Days after Belgian law enforcement captured alive ISIS terrorist Salah Abdeslam, one of the suspected ringleaders of the deadly Paris attacks, terrorists retaliated in Brussels by launching a series of explosions at the airport and train station. Thirty-four civilians are dead and 170 are injured," Rep Ted Poe (R-TX) said in a statement Tuesday hours after blasts rocked a terminal of the Brussels' airport and its subway system. "Today's bombings illustrate that ISIS still maintains operational networks in Europe capable of carrying out attacks in the capital of the European Union even as security services are on high alert," said Poe, who is also a member of the House Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia and Emerging Threats. "It is clear that our current strategy against ISIS – which has allowed the terrorist organization to retain a haven from which to plan and launch attacks for nearly two years – is a complete failure and needs to be reassessed. "Empty words claiming progress and success against ISIS are meaningless in the face of today's carnage in Brussels. This latest attack is the new normal in Europe and it will come to our soil if our leaders continue to refuse to define the enemy, radical Islam. "Jihadists have promised to bring terror to the United States and they will deliver on that promise if we do not use our full resources to destroy them," Poe said. More |
Parents, Educators Rally Behind 'Racist' Teacher Posted: 23 Mar 2016 09:00 AM PDT Calls for the resignation of a Minnesota superintendent grew on Monday, after a high school teacher was suspended for social media posts deemed racist by the Black Lives Matter activist group. Theodore "Theo" Olson, a special education teacher at Como Park High School in St. Paul, Minn., was placed on administrative leave March 9 over two posts he wrote on Facebook about student discipline in the school district. The posts were deemed offensive by former school board candidate turned Black Lives Matter activist Rashad Turner who reportedly accused Olson of being a racist. Turner said Olson's posts show he is "the epitome of a bad teacher" and a "white supremacist," EAGnews.org reported. According to the website, Olson wrote on Facebook, "Anyone care to explain to me the school-to-prison pipeline my colleagues and I have somehow created, or perpetuated, or not done enough to interrupt? Because if you can't prove it, the campaigns you've waged to deconstruct adult authority in my building by enabling student misconduct, you seriously owe us real teachers an apology. Actually, an apology won't cut it." "Phones and iPad devices, used for social media and gaming," wrote Olson. "There have always been rules for 'devices,' and defined levels of misconduct. Since we now have no backup, no functional location to send kids who won't quit gaming, setting up fights, selling drugs, whoring trains, or cyber bullying, we're screwed, just designing our own classroom rules." The group, Black Lives Matter St. Paul, charged that Olson portrayed students as drug dealers and gang bangers in his Facebook posts about a lack of district support in discipline matters, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported. Black Lives Matter had threatened a "shut-down action" at the school if Olson was not fired, but the group did not follow through with it after Turner reportedly met with St. Paul superintendent Valeria Silva. After Brussels: Is the Refugeehad Coming Here? Posted: 23 Mar 2016 08:45 AM PDT The website Refugee Resettlement Watch points out that what happened in Europe could soon be coming here. As the site notes: Because this blog is about refugees, I just checked the numbers of Muslim refugees admitted to the US since Obama was elected (but this has been going on for at least a decade before that through the George W. Bush Presidency as well!). The number of Muslim refugees totaled 154,160 (in a total refugee count of just short of a half million for all religious persuasions) since the fall of 2008 (to March 15, 2016). They break down like this: 69,400 Moslems (sect not specified), 33,000 Shiite Moslems, and 51,760 Sunni Moslems. That is just in less than 8 years! Those numbers do not include all the Muslims who came in through the Diversity Visa Lottery, those who are here in Temporary Protected Status, Student visa holders and the list goes on. And, it doesn't include all of those who have entered the US illegally and then applied for asylum! While this is a terrifying scenario, it's also worth noting that America has both a massive national security apparatus and greater economic opportunities for immigrants than most European nations, who have disregarded their own national security and culture for too long and let America do all the heavy lifting. Still, with a President who's more concerned with whether or not our policies offend Muslims than whether or not they keep us safe, it could only be a matter of time. Source: AAN |
Bill Clinton Slams Obama’s “Awful Legacy” Posted: 23 Mar 2016 08:30 AM PDT |
Posted: 23 Mar 2016 08:15 AM PDT House Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Jeff Miller lambasted Department of Veterans Affairs officials Tuesday for an "almost non-existent" level of accountability within the agency following a recent scandal. What would it take for you to get fired from your job? Regularly showing up late? Stealing your coworkers lunch? There are all sorts of ways to get fired in the private sector, and in today's rough and tumble Obama economy, many of us have become all too familiar with them. But what if you were charged with taking care of America's Veterans? Well, then you can get away with literally anything: "Today's announcement from VA that no one will be seriously disciplined for wasting more than $1 billion on a failed construction project and that a few executives might receive a weak slap on the wrist or a temporary written warning for a relocation scandal that cost taxpayers more than $400,000 is more proof of this sad fact," Miller said in a statement late Tuesday. The project is known as "the biggest construction failure in VA history" and its cost has tripled from its original $604 million budget. The VA announced Tuesday afternoon that the four leaders at the Veterans Benefits Administration who mismanaged the Denver hospital replacement project would receive suspensions and be reprimanded for their misuse of taxpayer funds. Who Sabotaged the Plan to Topple Trump? Posted: 23 Mar 2016 08:00 AM PDT Marco Rubio's exit from the race was a shocking blow the Establishment. Although the Florida Senator dropped out after his loss to Donald Trump, poll after poll showed that GOP primary voters thought he had the best chance to defeat Hillary Clinton in November. This was not lost on Ted Cruz, a candidate whose appeal seems more limited to deep red areas of the country. Cruz is trying to knock off frontrunner Donald Trump, and it seems as if he had a strategy in mind to do it: a unity ticket with Rubio to stand against Trump. Theoretically, the sum of their votes could be exactly what it takes to defeat the Donald. There's just one problem: Rubio isn't interested. As Politico notes: Ted Cruz's campaign has been exploring the possibility of forming a unity ticket with ex-rival Marco Rubio — going so far as to conduct polling looking into how the two would perform in upcoming primary states. The motivation, hashed out in conversations among Cruz's top aides and donors: to find a way to halt Donald Trump's march to the Republican nomination. It's unclear whether Cruz's campaign brass views a partnership with Rubio as realistic or quixotic. In Rubio's orbit, according to three sources, it's seen as an outright nonstarter — with Rubio telling his team that he isn't interested. Yet in recent weeks, within Cruz's camp, talk of a joint ticket has run rampant. Utah Republican Mike Lee, one of two senators to endorse Cruz, has emerged as an outspoken supporter of a unity ticket — and as a potential broker. The freshman senator, according to several sources briefed on the talks, has reached out repeatedly to Rubio to gauge his interest, but has been rebuffed. For all the talk from Trump opponents about how key it is for the GOP to stand together to defeat Trump- a concept the voters don't seem to agree with- it's remarkable that these candidates can't seem to get over their petty differences and come together. In fact, it perfectly illustrates why Trump is so popular. Source: AAN |
Which Candidate Cleaned Up Last Night? Posted: 23 Mar 2016 07:45 AM PDT The primary results are in: Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton won Arizona, while Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz won Utah. In Arizona, Trump won 47 percent of the vote, while Cruz took 25 percent. John Kasich received 10 percent of the vote. Voters dissatisfied with those choices turned out in large numbers for Marco Rubio, who received 14 percent of the vote. Perhaps that should be a signal to Governor Kasich that it's time to get out. In Utah, Cruz took an astounding 69 percent of the vote, with Kasich getting 17 and Trump 14. Trump ended the night with 58 delegates, while Cruz received 40, maintaining his second place position. Subject: Bill Clinton: We Need To Put The 'Awful Legacy' Of Obama Years Behind Us Posted: 23 Mar 2016 07:30 AM PDT Former President Bill Clinton ridiculed Barack Obama on Monday calling for people to get to a "point where we can put the awful legacy of the last eight years behind us." During a campaign rally in Spokane, Washington, the former president said that Hillary is "the only person who basically has good ideas, will tell you how she's going to pay for them, can be commander-in-chief, and is a proven change maker with Republicans and Democrats and independents alike." Clinton praised his wife claiming that "from the time I met her 45 years ago until we talked yesterday, she is the best change maker I have ever known. She always finds a way to make something good happen, to make people feel empowered, to buy people into the process, to make democracy work the way the framers intended for it to work." "Now if you don't believe we can all grow together again, if you don't believe we're ever going to grow again, if you believe it's more important to re-litigate the past, there may be many reasons that you don't want to support her," the former president said. The incident occurred around 9:41 p.m. Tuesday March 22, 2016 as Scot A. Adkins, 34 of Delmar, Delaware, was operating a 1995 Honda Odyssey westbound on County Seat Highway (US9) approaching the intersection with Firetower Road. For unknown reasons, the Odyssey crossed the eastbound lane and exited the roadway where it struck a tree with its left side. After the impact, the Honda rotated counterclockwise and overturned before coming to rest in the middle of the roadway, upright on its wheels. Scot Adkins was the lone occupant and was not properly restrained. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Posted: 23 Mar 2016 07:15 AM PDT Jeb Bush endorsed Ted Cruz for president on Wednesday, in an effort to help Republicans unite against Donald Trump's campaign. "Today, I am endorsing Ted Cruz for President," the former Florida governor said in a statement. "Ted is a consistent, principled conservative who has demonstrated the ability to appeal to voters and win primary contests. Washington is broken, and the only way Republicans can hope to win back the White House and put our nation on a better path is to support a nominee who can articulate how conservative policies will help people rise up and reach their full potential." Bush sparred with Trump throughout his entire campaign before dropping out, and Cruz is essentially the last man standing against Trump's juggernaut campaign. Republicans are hoping to prevent Trump from obtaining the 1,237 delegates needed to clinch the nomination ahead of the party's July convention in Cleveland. Currently, the billionaire businessman has 739, followed by Cruz with 465 and Ohio Gov. John Kasich with 143. "For the sake of our party and country, we must move to overcome the divisiveness and vulgarity Donald Trump has brought into the political arena, or we will certainly lose our chance to defeat the Democratic nominee and reverse President Obama's failed policies," Bush added. Supreme Court Throws Out Ruling Upholding Stun Gun Carry Ban Posted: 23 Mar 2016 06:53 AM PDT The Supreme Court vacated a lower court's ruling that upheld a Massachusetts ban on the carry of stun guns in a unanimous ruling on Monday. The justices ordered the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts to rehear Caetano v. Massachusetts, reasserting two key gun rights rulings. The Massachusetts court had ruled against Jaime Caetano after she was convicted of carrying a stun gun she had acquired to protect herself from an abusive ex-boyfriend. The court reasoned that stun guns "were not in common use at the time of the Second Amendment's enactment" and, therefore, not protected by the amendment. The Supreme Court rebuked the lower court for straying from the precedent set by the high court in both District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. Chicago. In Heller, the court established that Second Amendment protections extend to arms that did not exist at the time of the founding. In McDonald, the court extended that standard to the state level. The Supreme Court ordered the Massachusetts court to rule in a manner consistent with the high court's precedents when it rehears the case. Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas issued a separate but concurring opinion on the case. They accused the lower court of openly defying the precedents set by the high court. More |

Cruz on Attacks: 'Empower' Police 'To Patrol and Secure Muslim Neighborhoods' Posted: 23 Mar 2016 06:37 AM PDT (CNSNews) -- In the wake of the terrorist attacks in Brussels, Belgium, Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said it is necessary to stop the flow of refugees from countries with a major Islamic State or al Qaeda presence, and law enforcement in the United States must be empowered "to patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods before they become radicalized." "Today radical Islamic terrorists targeted the men and women of Brussels as they went to work on a spring morning," said Senator Cruz in a March 22 post on Facebook. "In a series of co-ordinated attacks they murdered and maimed dozens of innocent commuters at subway stations and travelers at the airport. For the terrorists, the identities of the victims were irrelevant. They -- we -- are all part of an intolerable culture that they have vowed to destroy." "For years, the west has tried to deny this enemy exists out of a combination of political correctness and fear," he said. "We can no longer afford either. Our European allies are now seeing what comes of a toxic mix of migrants who have been infiltrated by terrorists and isolated, radical Muslim neighborhoods. We will do what we can to help them fight this scourge, and redouble our efforts to make sure it does not happen here." "We need to immediately halt the flow of refugees from countries with a significant al Qaida or ISIS presence," said Sen. Cruz. "We need to empower law enforcement to patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods before they become radicalized." More here |
Trump Says Israel ‘Can Pay’ for Own Defense Needs Posted: 23 Mar 2016 06:30 AM PDT Ahead of his speech at the pro-Israel AIPAC conference on Monday, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said at a press conference that Israel "can pay and they can pay big" to defend itself without receiving U.S. foreign aid. Trump held the press conference in the atrium of his still-under-construction Trump International Hotel, and though he had come directly from a closed-door meeting with congressional Republicans, his initial comments were focused solely on how luxurious his hotel would be once it was completed and how it would be covered in "beautiful marble from different parts of the world." Trump, standing behind a "Trump Hotels" lectern, was surprised that the first question asked was not on the hotel but rather about who joined him at his secretive meeting with Republican insiders on Capitol Hill. "That has nothing to do with this, but that's OK," said Trump, gesturing towards the architecture he had spent the initial five minutes explaining. Trump did not provide names of people that were at his meeting at D.C. law firm Jones Day but said that his campaign would provide a full list in the near future. With his speech at AIPAC looming, Trump was asked numerous times for details on his policy towards Israel. When he was asked whether Israel was included in the countries like Germany, Japan, and South Korea that Trump has said should not receive foreign aid because they can pay to defend themselves, Trump said, "I think Israel will do that also, yeah." "I think that Israel will—there are many countries that can pay and can pay big," he said. More |
Trump Vows to Move US Embassy to Jerusalem in AIPAC Speech Posted: 23 Mar 2016 06:23 AM PDT Donald Trump vowed that as president he would move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and scrap the Iran nuclear deal in a speech at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference on Monday. In pre-written remarks—a departure from Trump's typically improvisational style—the Republican presidential candidate said that his "number one priority is to dismantle the disastrous deal with Iran." "I'm a deal-maker, and let me tell you this deal is catastrophic for America, for Israel, and for the whole of the Middle East," said Trump. "Iran is the biggest sponsor of terrorism around the world and we will work to dismantle that reach, believe me, believe me." Trump also said he had "studied this issue in great detail, I would say far greater than anyone," prompting laughs from the audience. Despite anti-Trump protests outside and a walkout from the auditorium, the candidate's speech was warmly received by the AIPAC crowd. While a handful of audience members appeared to leave before his remarks, the protest was insignificant in a nearly-full venue, which seats about 20,000. One of the biggest applause lines was Trump's promise to move the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. "We will move the U.S. embassy to the eternal capital of the Jewish people, Jerusalem," said Trump. "I love the people in this room, I love Israel." More |
Flight attendant flees security check, leaves 70 pounds of cocaine behind Posted: 23 Mar 2016 06:15 AM PDT Authorities are looking for a flight attendant who they say fled Los Angeles International Airport after being selected for a random security screening Friday, leaving behind almost 70 pounds of cocaine stashed in her luggage. The unidentified woman remained at large Monday. It was not immediately clear which airline she worked for. Marshall McClain, president of the union representing the airport's police officers, said the woman was was sent to a secondary screening area, but she quickly dropped her bag, ditched a pair of Gucci heels and fled barefoot down an upward-moving escalator. Police called to investigate the unattended bag found 69 pounds of cocaine inside. More |

Why Marijuana Businesses Still Can’t Get Bank Accounts Posted: 23 Mar 2016 05:30 AM PDT DENVER — Tim Cullen's marijuana business brought in millions of dollars last year, but he's had a hard time finding a bank to take the money. He's cycled through 14 checking accounts in six years. Recently, he said, a bank shut down all his personal accounts, including college savings for his 3-year-old daughter. Federal law prohibits banks and credit unions from taking marijuana money. So here in Colorado, everyone involved with the state's legal cannabis industry has a banking problem. Businesses can't get loans, customers have to pay in cash, and state tax collectors are processing bags of bills. Some community financial institutions have become more open to serving the cannabis industry since the U.S. Treasury and Justice departments said they won't go after institutions that keep a close eye on their clients and report suspected wrongdoing, such as funding gang activity. Posted: 23 Mar 2016 04:00 AM PDT Secrets of the Secret Service Very interesting but not surprising. Scroll down to read what Kessler thinks of the presidents he served. And now, you'll know the rest of the story. Interesting snippets from Ronald Kessler's book about our presidents. JOHN & JACQUELINE KENNEDY *He was a philanderer of the highest order. *She ordered the kitchen help to save all the left-over wine from State dinners, mixed it with fresh wine and served again during the next White House occasion.* LYNDON & LADYBIRD JOHNSON LBJ was as crude as the day is long. Both JFK and LBJ kept a lot of women in the White House for extramarital affairs and both had set up early warning systems to alert them if/when their wives were nearby. Both were promiscuous and oversexed men.* *She was either naive or just pretended to not know about her husband's many liaisons.* RICHARD & PAT NIXON *A "moral" man but very odd, weird, paranoid. He had a horrible relationship with his family and was almost a recluse.* *She was quiet most of the time.* GERALD & BETTY FORD *A true gentlemen who treated the Secret Service with respect and dignity. He had a great sense of humor. * *She drank a lot!* JIMMY & ROSALYN CARTER *A complete phony who would portray one picture of himself to public and very different in private e.g. would be shown carrying his own luggage but the suitcases were always empty. He kept empty ones just for photo ops. He wanted people to see him as pious and a non-drinker but he and his family drank alcohol a lot! He had disdain for the Secret Service and was very irresponsible with the "football" with nuclear codes. He didn't think it was a big deal and would keep military aides at a great distance. Often did not acknowledge the presence of Secret Service personnel assigned to serve him.* *She mostly did her own thing.* RONALD & NANCY REAGAN *The real deal, moral, honest, respectful and dignified. They treated Secret Service and everyone else with respect and honor, thanked everyone all the time. He took the time to know everyone on a personal level. One favorite story was early in his Presidency when he came out of his room with a pistol tucked on his hip. The agent in charge asked: "Why the pistol, Mr. President?" He replied, "In case you boys can't get the job done, I can help." It was common for him to carry a pistol. When he met with Gorbachev, he had a pistol in his briefcase. *She was very nice but very protective of the President and the Secret Service was often caught in the middle. She tried hard to control what he ate. He would say to the agent, "Come on, you gotta help me out." The Reagan's drank wine during State dinners and special occasions only otherwise they shunned alcohol. The Secret Service could count on one hand the times they were served wine during family dinner. For all the fake bluster of the Carters, the Reagan's were the ones who lived life as genuinely moral people.* GEORGE W. & LAURA BUSH *The Secret Service loved him and Laura Bush. He was also the most physically in shape who had a very strict workout regimen. The Bushes made sure their entire administrative and household staff understood that they were to respec t and be considerate of the Secret Service.* *She was one of the nicest First Ladies, if not the nicest. She never had any harsh word to say about anyone.* BILL & HILLARY CLINTON *Presidency was one giant party. Not trustworthy. He was nice mainly because he wanted everyone to like him but to him life is just one big game and party. Everyone knows about his sexuality.* *She is another phony. Her personality would change the instant cameras were near. She hated, with open disdain the military and Secret Service. She was another who felt people were there to serve her. She was always trying to keep tabs on Bill Clinton.* ALBERT GORE *An egotistical ass who was once overheard by his Secret Service detail lecturing his son that he needed to do better in school or he would end up like these guys, pointing to the agents.* GEORGE H. & BARBARA BUSH *Extremely kind and considerate, always respectful. Took great care in making sure the agents' comforts were taken care of. They even brought them meals. One time she brought warm clothes to agents standing outside at Kennebunkport. One was given a warm hat and, when he tried to say "no thanks" even though he was obviously freezing, the President said "Son, don't argue with the First Lady. Put the hat on." He was the most prompt of the Presidents. He ran the White House like a well-oiled machine.* *She ruled the house and spoke her mind.* *BARACK & MICHELLE OBAMA *Clinton all over again - hates the military and looks down on the Secret Service. He is egotistical and cunning. He looks you in the eye and appears to agree with you but turns around and does the opposite. He has temper tantrums.* *She is a complete bitch who basically hates anybody who is not black, hates the military and looks at the Secret Service as servants.* A 'TRUE STORY ABOUT' General McChrystal's resignation in Obama's office from General McChrystal's book! NEVER STAND IN LINE AGAIN Some men carry and handle their diplomacy better than others. When former U.S. Military commander in Afghanistan, General McChrystal, was called into the Oval Office by Barack Obama, he knew things weren't going to go well when the President accused him of not supporting him in his political role as President. "It's not my job to support you as a politician, Mr. President, it's my job to support you as Commander-in-Chief," McChrystal replied, and he handed Obama his resignation. Not satisfied with accepting McChrystal's resignation, the President made a cheap parting shot. "I bet when I die you'll be happy to piss on my grave." The General saluted and said, "Mr. President, I always told myself after leaving the Army I'd never stand in line again. |

Trump, Clinton win Arizona prize; rivals notch victories in Utah, Idaho Posted: 23 Mar 2016 02:24 AM PDT Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton padded their delegate totals with convincing wins in the valuable Arizona primary Tuesday night – but their respective rivals, Ted Cruz and Bernie Sanders, kept the race alive with victories in the Utah and Idaho caucuses. The Associated Press projected Vermont Sen. Sanders and Texas Sen. Cruz the winners of the Utah contest early Wednesday morning. Idaho's Democratic-only caucuses were called for Sanders. Though Arizona was the biggest prize on the map in Tuesday's Western contests, Sanders and Cruz won their states by huge, double-digit margins. Cruz took all of Utah's delegates by finishing with more than 50 percent of the vote. More |
$176M In Wages Garnished For Unpaid Federal Student Loans In Just Three Months Posted: 23 Mar 2016 02:00 AM PDT Millions of would-be students turn to the federal government in order finance their education, each taking out thousands of dollars in loans. While that influx of funds allows borrowers to seek a better life by obtaining a degree, it also has to be repaid. And when that becomes impossible for some consumers, debt collectors hired by the Department of Education sometimes resort to garnishing wages. |

Posted: 23 Mar 2016 01:00 AM PDT You might love your mother enough to get her name tattooed on your arm, but what about the Internal Revenue Service?
