Vox Calls for Obama Third Term

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 09:00 PM PDT

Just when it seemed the 2016 election couldn't get any more frightening, a moonbat is calling for an unconstitutional Obama third term:

Vox's Matt Yglesias has proposed something that would probably horrify most Americans: A Literal Third-Term Obama. Shamelessly, the Voxer takes sycophancy to new heights in his his latest piece, aptly entitled, "Democrats' best choice for 2016 is the guy already in the White House." Apparently, de facto third-term Obama candidate Hillary Clinton isn't enough. "It would make a lot more sense for him to directly face his critics on the left (Bernie Sanders) and right (every Republican) rather than do so indirectly through the proxy of Hillary Clinton," writes Yglesias without a hint of sarcasm.

Liberal Idiot Whoopi Goldberg Tries to Humiliate Trump… BAD Idea!

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 08:30 PM PDT

In an effort to save their ratings that have been in a nosedive, the hosts of "The View" decided they would call Donald Trump and ask him a few questions…what they didn't expect, was that he would have the answers… silly them.

After asking Trump what his Iran deal would have looked like, Whoopi quickly turns the topic of discussion to immigration pointing out that Trump's own wife is an immigrant of Eastern Europe.

"Your stance on immigration is a little testy for folks," Goldberg told Trump. "Not all Mexican immigrants are murderers and rapists, I just want to straighten that up."

But then Behar went too far when she asked Trump if he is a "Democrat at heart."

"I used to be a Democrat," Trump admitted, saying that he switched parties just like Ronald Reagan did. "And now I'm a Republican, a conservative Republican, but with a very big heart."

No matter how hard Whoopi and Behar tried, they couldn't knock Trump down. Instead, he won over the liberal audience by saying how much he respects women.

RECALL ALERT: This Popular Dog Food Is Getting Pulled For Lack Of Nutrition

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 08:00 PM PDT

For those dog lovers among us, this will likely be irritating news. It seems that lots of Purina's wet dog food brands are coming off the shelves for scoring badly on nutritional value

Nestlé-Purina has issued a voluntary recall of many of their wet dog food tubs. The company discovered that the items do not contain the recommended amount of vitamins and minerals. The recall affects Beneful Prepared Meals, Beneful Chopped Blends, and Pro Plan Savory Meals.

In a press release, the company states:

Although most of the recalled product contains all of the vitamins and minerals your dog needs, we recommend that you discard any of the affected product you may have, and we'll issue you a refund.

They also state that the lack of proper vitamins and minerals could pose an issue for dogs who eat these products as their only meal source for more than several weeks. If this is the case for your pup, you may want to consult your veterinarian.

History, Politics and Pride: Why Small Cities, Counties Rarely Merge

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 07:00 PM PDT

Three times in 40 years — in the 1950s, in the '70s and in the '90s — the Township and the Borough of Princeton, New Jersey, tried unsuccessfully to merge. The two finally combined into the new Municipality of Princeton a few years ago, allowing them to cut out redundant services and save millions on policing, snow removal and trash pickup.

Across the country, advocates of consolidation, including governors like New Jersey's Chris Christie and Illinois' Bruce Rauner, both Republicans, tout the municipal combinations as a way to streamline services and save taxpayers money.

An Illinois report released in December sparked a conversation in that state and in others. It found that living in an area with too many layers of government increases property taxes on residents (the report didn't break out business taxes) and makes it all but impossible to remember which governmental entity governs what.

But the Municipality of Princeton, formed in 2013, is an exception. Consolidations have often been discussed and studied, but the mergers rarely take place.

More Time for Dads? States Weigh Changes to Custody Laws

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 06:30 PM PDT

It's been about 40 years since the majority of moms stayed home, and married dads in the 21st century spend twice as much time caring for their children as they did back then.

Yet when parents divorce or separate, custody arrangements are more likely to reflect life as it was in 1975, with the mother as the primary caretaker and the father working to help support a child he seldom sees.

As fathers become more vocal about what they see as inequities in custody cases — and as more research shows how important it is for fathers to be present in their children's lives — states are considering changing their custody laws.

Five states — Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts and Missouri — are looking at proposals that would require judges to presume that it's best for children to split their time as evenly as possible between their two parents. Utah enacted a similar law last year.

Court Reminds Us All: You Have No Right To Sue Your Phone Company

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 06:00 PM PDT

If you don't like your wireless company's service, or your current rate plan, you're free to change providers. But if you think your wireless provider is breaking the law, you can't sue the company; and it doesn't matter which of the four major carriers you have, because they all strip their customers' of their legal rights.

AT&T wireless customers in California recently tried to sue the telecom giant in federal court over the company's controversial former policy of throttling "unlimited" data customers' data speeds after they reached an arbitrary monthly threshold. But recently, the judge in the case reminded the plaintiffs that they had all signed away their right to sue AT&T when they became customers.

Not only does AT&T have a mandatory arbitration clause in itsterms and conditions — requiring that all customers resolve disputes either in small claims court or through the byzantine process of binding arbitration — but in 2011 AT&T convinced the U.S. Supreme Court that it was legal to force customers into such an agreement by inserting a few paragraphs into a 20,000-word contract that the customer has no authority or ability to negotiate.

Cancer And Arthritis Drugs Drive Up Spending On Medicines

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 05:30 PM PDT

Spending on prescription drugs in the U.S. rose 5.2 percent in 2015, driven mostly by increased costs of expensive specialty medications to treat conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, according to data from the largest manager of employers' drug benefits.

Spending on specialty medications rose 18 percent, while spending on standard prescription drugs rose less than one percent, according to a new report by Express Scripts. The report is based on the prescription drug spending for the company's 80 million covered patients.

The measure — called "drug trend" in pharmaceutical industry parlance — includes increases in the use of medications and price hikes.

A $22M Haul for Jerry Seinfeld's Car Collection

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 05:00 PM PDT

Jerry Seinfeld unloaded a collection of 17 cars at an auction over the weekend. The total haul: $22.2 million.

Seinfeld, an avid car collector and Porsche fan, sent 18 of his cars to Gooding & Co.'s auction on Amelia Island, Fla. He sold all but one, a 2000 Porsche Carrera GT prototype that will remain in his collection for now.

The largest price tag went to a 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder, which was purchased for $5.3 million. It was one of the most expensive cars sold during the entire auction, second only to a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California SWB Spider that drew a winning bid of $17.1 million.

Fight For Freedom Or Humbly Accept Submission

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 04:30 PM PDT

Submission to the state is a time-honoured tradition, a concept supported by governing bodies since time immemorial.
In days of yore, men submitted to whichever member of the tribe was the mightiest in battle. By doing so, they stood a better chance of succeeding in battle, thereby diminishing the likelihood of their own death or enslavement.

Later on, as tribes became more tied to the land and communities sprang up, the idea of a strong leader still made sense. Not only might he do the best job of leading the protection of the town or village, he might also travel outside the community to attack other communities, bringing back spoils for all to benefit from. (Not too civilised, maybe, but still, the reasoning behind submission to the leader made sense.)

Later, settlements grew larger and, increasingly, many villages and towns would find themselves joined together collectively, under a national banner, with a single army to protect them. And, again, the leader would most likely be a fierce and formidable warrior. But a significant change was taking place. Whilst the warrior leader was away (sometimes for years), invading other communities, it was necessary to have leadership at home – administrative leadership. Predictably, this leadership also sought the loyalty and submission of the people.

Avon shares were up nearly 4 percent at $4.55 in extended trading.

The company sold most of its North American business to Cerberus Capital, its biggest investor, after four years of falling sales.

Avon said it expected to record $60 million (42 million pounds) in pre-tax charges related to job cuts in the first quarter.

The company, which has 28,300 employees, said the transition of its headquarters would occur over time.

Scientists may have just made a huge breakthrough in explaining the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 02:30 PM PDT

Scientists may have solved an enduring mystery that has plagued us since records began in 1851.

Scientists believe methane gas explosions may be linked to the mystery of the disappearance of around 8,127 people in the Bermuda Triangle.

The mythical, triangular stretch of ocean, roughly encompassing Puerto Rico, the island of Bermuda, and Miami has been called the Devil's Triangle and more commonly called the Bermuda Triangle.

For the past 165 years, according to the International Business Times, numerous ships and airplanes have disappeared in the area, usually under mysterious circumstances, taking the lives of over 8,000 souls. But new research from scientists at Arctic University in Norway suggests that multiple giant craters on the floor of the Barents Sea may help to explain what's going on in the Bermuda Triangle.

The craters surrounding the seabed on the coast of Norway mark area's where massive explosions of methane gas may have exploded. The study of these craters, some of them are actually chasms 150-feet deep and half-a-mile wide, could have been caused by gas leaking from oil and gas deposits buried deep in the sea floor.

A Republican strategy from September to stop Trump is backfiring in a major way

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 02:00 PM PDT

The pledge that Republican candidates signed early in the presidential primary season, promising to support the eventual nominee if they lose, looks increasingly likes a suicide pact.

The three remaining candidates for the Republican presidential nomination who are not named Donald Trump have inched up to the line suggesting that the mercurial billionaire is so wildly unsuited to be president that they would not support him in a general election.

But so far, none has been willing to step over. Instead, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Ohio Gov. John Kasich have all condemned Trump's inflammatory rhetoric and the violence on display at his rallies. They've called on Trump to dial back his language and said that his call for supporters to pledge allegiance to him with a gesture reminiscent of the Nazi salute is "troubling."

But over the weekend, even as stories of violence between protesters and Trump supporters were everywhere, even as Trump said he was considering paying the legal costs of a supporter who assaulted a protester, all three stuck to their pledge — reiterated in the most recent GOP debate last week — that they would reluctantly support the billionaire against whomever the Democrats nominate.

Cruz, speaking to reporters on Monday, reiterated that he would support Trump in the general election, though he qualified it by saying, "I can give you one example where I would no longer support Donald Trump. If for example, he were to go out on 5th Avenue and shoot somebody, I would not be willing to support Donald Trump."

Politico Asks: ‘What’s Wrong with Hillary?’

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 01:30 PM PDT

The establishment news organization Politico ran a frontpage article Monday headlined "What's Wrong With Hillary?"

The hand-wringing article underscores the reality that Democrats are worried about their frontrunner, amid dropping voter turnout in the Democratic primaries, an FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email use, and the continuing threat of socialist challenger Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Jeff Greenfield writes:

But there are other factors that make Hillary Clinton look more vulnerable than venerable, and that should give her party cause to pause. Consider the much-chewed-over finding that nearly six in 10 Americans do not consider Clinton honest and trustworthy. In last Wednesday's debate, panelist Karen Tumulty cut through Clinton's first explanation — it's all that right-wing Fox News noise — to note that these doubts were held by the broader public, and by many in her own party…

A look at Clinton's political career provides a tougher explanation. Those younger voters who doubt her trustworthiness likely have no memory, or even casual acquaintance with, a 25-year history that includes cattle-futures trading, law firm billing records, muddled sniper fire recollections and the countless other charges of widely varying credibility aimed at her. They may even have suspended judgment about whether her e-mail use was a matter of bad judgment or worse.

But when you look at the positions she has taken on some of the most significant public policy questions of her time, you cannot escape noticing one key pattern: She has always embraced the politically popular stand — indeed, she has gone out of her way to reinforce that stand — and she has shifted her ground in a way that perfectly correlates with the shifts in public opinion.

Greenfield is right to have doubts.

Obama Calls on Tech Industry to Allow Backdoor Access to Smartphones at SXSW

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 01:00 PM PDT

Echoing recent FBI sentiments, President Barack Obama is strongly urging Apple to open up backdoor access to their smartphones so that the government can reveal potentially critical information about criminal activity.

The president, speaking at the SXSW conference in Austin, Texas, urged the tech industry to work with the government so that smartphones don't become "black boxes" with information stored on them that is inaccessible to government, even when a warrant has been issued.

"You cannot take an absolutist view on this. If your argument is strong encryption no matter what, and we can and should create black boxes, that I think does not strike the kind of balance we have lived with for 200, 300 years, and it's fetishizing our phones above every other value," he argued.

Chicago Cop: Anti-Trump Mob More Aggressive and Destructive than Reported

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 12:30 PM PDT

The protests launched by militant leftists who shut down Donald Trump's Chicago rally were far more aggressive and destructive than reported, says a Chicago Police officer.

"It seems the [media] aren't broadcasting footage of the debris being thrown across Harrison by Sanders/Hillary supporters at Trump fans," the officer wrote shortly after the canceled Trump event.

The officer, who posed anonymously on the Second City Cop blog, also noted the media didn't report that protesters were running through parking lots and breaking windows of cars with Trump stickers on them, or that the department called out emergency Incident Teams to cope with the anti-Trump riot at the University of Illinois in Chicago.

Later that same day the officer posted a second, much longer post, to detail the failures of the police leaders to plan for and respond to the protests.

The officer insisted there was "pretty much zero in terms of a unified Command Post" for the event, and that officers had no central command to report to or coordinate response from.

Congressman Andy Harris’ Statement on President Obama’s Supreme Court Nominee

WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) released the following statement on President Obama's Supreme Court nominee:

"Once again President Obama is playing politics with the future of this country by attempting to force the Senate to confirm a liberal Washington insider to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court is a lifetime appointment and the American people should not be denied a say in the direction the court will take for decades to come. The Senate has the constitutional and legal rights to consider or not consider the 'lame-duck' President's nominee and I believe they should continue to stand strong in not confirming a Supreme Court Justice during this election year."

Chicagoland (Political) Thuggery Masks Far Left’s Fear

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 11:00 AM PDT

WHAT THE PROTESTS AGAINST DONALD TRUMP ARE REALLY ABOUT

There are two competing narratives coming from the debacle that was GOP frontrunner Donald Trump's visit to Chicago on Friday evening – in which liberal activists stormed an arena where Trump was scheduled to speech and clashed (at times violently) with his supporters and with police.

The ensuing chaos prompted Trump to cancel his event.

The first narrative? That Trump had this coming … that he has been egging on protesters for months and finally got what he deserved. This view is being advanced (shocker) by the liberal Washington Post, which gleefully rejoiced in Trump's rude reception in the windy city.

"For months, Trump has been able to control – and often use to his advantage – the hundreds of protesters who show up to his rallies to oppose rhetoric they consider divisive, racist and hateful," reporter Jenna Johnson noted. "In the past two weeks, these interruptions have increasingly eaten away at Trump's speaking time and have often become violent, with police in North Carolina charging a Trump supporter who punched a protester at a rally on Wednesday."

The second narrative being advanced is that the liberal activist horde – which included avowed communist and former domestic terrorist Bill Ayers – denied Trump his First Amendment rights.

"Liberals love the first amendment until you say something they don't agree with," Trump's son tweeted in the aftermath of the melee.

Liberal Leaders Call For 'Massive' Anti-Trump Campaign

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 09:53 AM PDT

'This is a five-alarm fire for our democracy,' reads the letter signed by top officials of groups like MoveOn.org and the Services Employees International Union.

CHICAGO —
Leaders of more than 20 leading liberal groups supporting both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are set to release a scathing letter on Tuesday that serves as a progressive call to arms against Donald Trump, imploring Americans to undertake a unified set of concrete steps to oppose the Republican front-runner — from protesting to organizing large-scale voter turnout efforts.

"This is a five-alarm fire for our democracy. A hate-peddling bigot who openly incites violence is the likely presidential nominee of one of our nation's two major parties. It is alarming and dangerous. Donald Trump's candidacy is a threat to the America we love, and we must respond to him and what he is stoking as such," reads the letter, which was obtained first by POLITICO. It is signed by top officials of Sanders-backing groups like MoveOn.org and Clinton-backing organizations including the Services Employees International Union.

"Today we are calling for a massive nonviolent mobilization of working people, students, immigrants, children of immigrants, great-great-grandchildren of immigrants, people of color and white people, the unemployed and under-employed, people of faith, retirees, veterans, women, and men — anyone who opposes bigotry and hate and loves freedom and justice — to stand up to Trump's bullying and bigotry," the note continues.

Anticipating the possibility that the billionaire real estate developer essentially locks up the Republican nomination on Tuesday — and that he subsequently pivots to a more widely-acceptable message — the letter lists multiple examples of Trump encouraging violence at his rallies. To fight back, the group proposes a three-pronged response ahead of November's general election, regardless of the Democratic nominee.

Narco Marco: I Think I Know What Went Wrong With Marco Rubio’s Campaign

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 09:37 AM PDT

If you hear a plaintive wailing emanating from Florida today, it isn't the senator I'm calling "Narco Marco" trying and failing to reach his rumoured prescription meds off a high shelf with hisEZ Grabber reaching aid.

It is instead the gibbering GOP establishment watching the campaign of their handpicked golden boy collapsing faster than a handful of grandmas fleeing a Jeb Bush event (That would actually be quite slow, but you get the idea.) Yeah, in case you hadn't heard: Little Marco is out.

Rubio took a drubbing last week in important states like Michigan. No doubt he spent the weekend consoling himself with Pet Shop Boys albums and a strongly mixed chocolatini, readying for the big fight in his home state of Florida. Marco is obviously in the closet about his inability to gain traction anywhere besides Minnesota.

No one's surprised Rubio got schlonged in Florida today — least of all regular dog-walkers at Miami's Alice C. Wainwright Park.

Bernie Sanders’s Socialist Allies Helped Shut Down Donald Trump’s Chicago Event

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 09:30 AM PDT

One of the radical groups that helped to shut down Donald Trump's Chicago rally has long maintained a close relationship with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).

In fact, Sanders raised funds for the group, the Democratic Socialists of America, or DSA, and himself helped to recruit new members to the socialist organization.

Sanders further was a key player in helping to elect DSA-supported candidates to Congress and was involved in an effort to rebrand and incorporate that socialist-oriented legislative axis within the Congressional Progressive Caucus, or CPC.

The DSA in turn was critical in organizing early support for Sanders' national political career and Sanders has since maintained close working ties to the organization.

Sanders was one of six founding members of the CPC. It was also founded in 1991 by Reps. Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-OR), D-Ore., Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), D-Calif., and Ron Dellums, D-Calif.

The story of Sanders, the CPC and the DSA spotlights the largely forgotten but entirely public role the DSA played in founding the CPC, the largest membership organization within the House Democratic Caucus, currently boasting seventy-five members.

Besides the DSA, the George Soros-backed, pro-Sanders MoveOn.org played a prominent role in organizing the anti-Trump activism.

"We are going go all the way to Cleveland and secure the Republican nomination," Kasich said during a victory event on Tuesday night in Berea in suburban Cleveland, where the Republican Party will meet in about four months to select its nominee.

The Silent Majority Is Mad As Hell

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 09:00 AM PDT

Violence broke out over the weekend at several Donald Trump campaign rallies. Left-wing thugs battled with police in Chicago and St. Louis.

One unhinged lunatic tried to storm the stage at a rally in Dayton, Ohio. He was stopped by Secret Service agents. Heaven only knows what he would've done had he gotten hold of Mr. Trump.

To be clear – what happened over the weekend was not just an attack on Mr. Trump. It was an attack on the First Amendment.

But instead of condemning the professional hooligans -- the political chattering class condemned Mr. Trump.

A despondent Senator Marco Rubio went so far as to liken Mr. Trump to a third world strong man.

He's come under fierce attack for suggesting that his supporters physically manhandle protesters. In February he told an audience that he wanted to punch one of the protesters in the face.

That sort of language has no place in any political campaign.

But that's not what brought about the weekend violence.

The person responsible for fomenting political unrest and creating this toxic environment is not Donald Trump -- it's President Obama.

For the past seven and a half years this man has been stoking division and discord.

Chinese Make STUNNING Statement That Proves Trump Was Right All Along

Aside from talk of a border wall and immigration, a key component of billionaire businessman Donald Trump's presidential campaign has been a frank discussion of the U.S. trade imbalance with China.

Trump has repeatedly exposed Chines currency manipulation, which can at times play havoc with our own economy, and has decried the American tax policies that seemingly chase jobs out of the United States and into China and other foreign markets.

He has also spoken at length about bringing those jobs back to America and fueling a resurgence of U.S. manufacturing to bolster the economy and level the global market playing field, a highly popular notion with not just Americans, but the Chinese as well, according to Forbes.

WHAT AMERICANS SHOULD BE WORRIED ABOUT

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 08:30 AM PDT

HINT: IT'S NOT GOP FRONTRUNNER DONALD TRUMP OR A BUNCH OF RADICAL PROGRESSIVE PROTESTERS

After what happened in Chicago between supporters of GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump and a rabble of far left agitators, Americans of varying ideological stripes are expressing profound disenchantment with their nation's political process.

That's a good thing … they should be upset. But do they know why they should be upset? In predictable politically-correct fashion, we've heard a lot of hand-wringing from the liberal mainstream media about Trump's "angry words" and "divisive rhetoric" – or from the conservative media about the protesters "assault on the First Amendment."

Look: We don't disagree that the 2016 election has "jumped the shark." It clearly has. But Trump saying "mean things" and a few hundred losers infiltrating one of his rallies and showing their asses – that's not what we should be worried about in America right now.

Here is what we should be worried about in America right now …

New Poll: Gov. Hogan’s Highest Approval Rating Comes From Democrats Under 35

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 08:15 AM PDT

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) – Maryland Governor Larry Hogan is getting support from some unexpected places.

The new Baltimore Sun-University of Baltimore poll finds that his highest approval among democrats comes from young people and African Americans.

Political reporter Pat Warren has reaction from the governor.

At a non-partisan Maryland pro-business group luncheon Governor Hogan greets folks who would seem likely to support him, democrats as well as republicans.

Surprise, young people and African American democrats do too.

"Well it's really exciting that we're reaching out to various constituencies that people wouldn't expect to be supportive," said Hogan.

Independent Consultants Find It Easier To Balance Career And Family

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 08:00 AM PDT

Finding the right balance between career and home life continues to be a significant issue for parents of young children.

According to a recent Pew Research Center survey, more than half of American women believe that children are better off when a parent stays home to concentrate on family. But at the same time, 51 percent of women with children younger than 18 have told Pew that being a working parent made it harder to advance in their job or career.

While women may be concerned that temporarily becoming a stay-at-home mother hampers their career aspirations, many professionals are discovering a new way to achieve both professional and personal goals: independent consulting.

"It's possible to keep a foot in both camps and be very successful," says Aaron Zwas, an independent consultant and author of "Transition to Independence" (www.t2iplan.com).

As an independent consultant for 15 years, Zwas works from home and shifts his hours in a way that lets him actively manage the family and home with his wife. "I help out with the usual school and activity drop-offs," says Zwas, "but we also have much more quality time with each other, too. And that's something that everyone wants.

"Independent consultants are becoming a mainstay of the modern workforce, injecting businesses and organizations with fresh ideas. In the last four decades, independent consulting has been one of the biggest growth areas in professional employment."

That's because the world is changing as many employers reduce their staffs and contract out for more services.

Zwas says a few tips to keep in mind if you plan to become an independent consultant are:

• Have a conversation. Talk with your spouse, other family members and anyone else who might be affected about what you're planning to do and explain why it's important to you. Be patient and listen to any advice and feedback they have.
• Stick with what you know and like. Many independents get sucked into investing too much of their time in activities that are not related to their expertise or are undesirable.
• Consider services you will need. Even as an independent, you may need to rely on the services of others.

Be sure to include in your planning whether you will need to contract out in such areas as accounting, website development and marketing. "I know many women who have made the choice to take a couple of years off from work to focus on family," Zwas says. "The majority of them absolutely want to get back into the workforce, but feel that it's like going from zero to 100 immediately. This is one way to get back on your own terms, without having to spend an hour commuting to an office each day and without necessarily committing to a full 40-plus hours a week."

About Aaron Zwas

Aaron Zwas, the author of "Transition to Independence" (www.t2iplan.com), is a consulting journeyman with 15 years of independent experience as a strategic technology advisor. His T2I Plan (for "Transition to Independence") provides a step-by-step approach that helps people move from traditional employment to a career as an independent consultant while minimizing the risks associated with career changes.

Is This GOP State Senator Feeling the Bern?

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 07:30 AM PDT

An Arizona State Senator is pursuing a strange, populist course of action that puts her in camp with Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren- the sort of interest rate voodoo that helped create the financial crisis:

Arizona State Senator Kimberly Yee is not making any new friends among the free-market Republican crowd in Arizona. In a recent Senate hearing, Yee, who has been touted as a rising star in the party, held her fire after a long debate until the voting opened on a financial services bill in her committee. She then unloaded with full ammunition on the financial services industry and their free market principles.

"This bill just doesn't feel right," Yee proclaimed. "I am standing with the poor," while attacking the well-funded groups who were supportive and their consultant class.

Yee went on to explain she has a "strong moral compass" and wants to protect people - that she would possibly consider a bill capping interest rates on loans in Arizona, a position which is specifically prohibited under federal law by Dodd-Frank. By promoting rate caps, Yew veers left of the Obama Administration.

The issue at hand in last month's Senate Commerce committee hearing was a proposed consumer lending bill known as Flexible Credit Loans, which would create a new credit product for up to $2500 over the course of a two-year loan term. Yee emphatically stated she could not back the measure before teeing off on its supporters with a blistering rhetoric.

The bill (and ones like it across the country), however, is supported by a broad base from left of center to the far right. In Arizona, leading free market groups, the Arizona Free Enterprise Club and the Goldwater Institute have spoken out in favor of the legislation.

One conservative Republican interviewed on the subject off the record stated that they were quite surprised at Yee's comments and mini tirade. "She sounded more like Bernie Sanders than an Arizona Republican. I'm not quite sure where all of that came from."

It Begins: John Boehner Endorses Paul Ryan for President

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 07:23 AM PDT

Former Speaker of the House John Boehner has endorsed current Speaker Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) for president, in the event that no Republican candidate achieves a majority on the first ballot at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in July.

Politico reports that Boehner, speaking at a conference in Boca Raton, Florida, said: "If we don't have a nominee who can win on the first ballot, I'm for none of the above. They all had a chance to win. None of them won. So I'm for none of the above. I'm for Paul Ryan to be our nominee."

"The difference between [socialism and fascism] is superficial and purely formal, but it is significant psychologically: it brings the authoritarian nature of a planned economy crudely into the open. The main characteristic of socialism (and of communism) is public ownership of the means of production, and, therefore, the abolition of private property. The right to property is the right of use and disposal. Under fascism, men retain the semblance or pretense of private property, but the government holds total power over its use and disposal."

Sheriff: Attending Trump Rally Was 'Selfish'

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 06:53 AM PDT

CINCINNATI — Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil publicly apologized and distanced himself from Donald Trump Monday, a day after the Democratic sheriff attended a West Chester rally for the Republican presidential candidate.

During a Monday news conference outside the Hamilton County Justice Center, Neil apologized to Hamilton County residents and the local Democratic party, saying "it was selfish," and might have damaged local Democratic party election efforts by alienating supporters.

Neil repeatedly said Monday he attended the Trump rally to show appreciation for Trump's support of law enforcement. "I'm a public servant … public safety is my priority."

From Hamilton County Democratic Party Chairman Tim Burke to a Cincinnati city councilman, local Democrats widely criticized Neil's appearance at the Sunday rally. Neil said Monday he understood the criticism.

From the very first picture of Neil front in center at Sunday's rally in West Chester, there was an outcry from party members, said Burke.

"I thought it sent entirely the wrong message," Burke said. "This was a terrible mistake. It hurt a lot of people who have been fans of Jim's. A great many people are confused by his decision."

Chicago Cop: Anti-Trump Mob More Aggressive and Destructive than Reported

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 06:37 AM PDT

The protests launched by militant leftists who shut down Donald Trump's Chicago rally were far more aggressive and destructive than reported, says a Chicago Police officer.

"It seems the [media] aren't broadcasting footage of the debris being thrown across Harrison by Sanders/Hillary supporters at Trump fans," the officer wrote shortly after the canceled Trump event.

The officer, who posted anonymously on the Second City Cop blog, also noted the media didn't report that protesters were running through parking lots and breaking windows of cars with Trump stickers on them, or that the department called out emergency Incident Teams to cope with the anti-Trump riot at the University of Illinois in Chicago.

Later that same day the officer posted a second, much longer post, to detail the failures of the police leaders to plan for and respond to the protests.

The officer insisted there was "pretty much zero in terms of a unified Command Post" for the event, and that officers had no central command to report to or coordinate response from.

"Who wrote this plan?" the officer wrote. "We've seen and heard reports that UIC was woefully unprepared for this. They had their own people and Monterey Security inside. The Secret Service had a presence, but they're restricted to dignitary protection. The ISP had a squad there. And CPD. So where were the people geared up for a riot? For NATO we had an entire strike force geared up and ready to go. We had the Mounted Unit up and running. Tens of dozens of bikes. Did no one see this coming?"

Dem Plot to Register Illegals To Stop Trump

"We are going to make sure there are 1 million new immigrant citizens before November of 2016," Gutierrez said while introducing Clinton at an event hosted by The Resurrection Project, a community organizer that provides "navigators" to helps immigrants obtain citizenship.

Navigators' goal "is to help the 8.8 million residents legally here in this country become citizens of the United States of America," Gutierrez said, flipping between English and Spanish.

Armed Employee Confronts ‘Active Shooter,’ Stops Him ‘in His Tracks’

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 06:23 AM PDT

On March 9, an employee at a Florida business ran out to his car, grabbed his gun, then re-entered the business and confronted an alleged "active shooter," stopping him "in his tracks."

The incident occurred at B&L Landscaping in Jacksonville, where police say the alleged "active shooter" is "not a US citizen."

According to CBS 47, 24-year-old Ezequiel Lopez allegedly opened fire on 55-year-old Andrew Little because he thought "Little disrespected him." Police indicate that Lopez told them he allegedly planned the shooting because he felt Little "treated him differently that other employees."

B&L employee Joshua Curry ran to his car to retrieve his own gun after hearing shouts of "active shooter." He then ran back inside and confronted Lopez.

WOKV reports that witnesses say Curry "stopped the shooter in his tracks."

Israeli Innovation Could Save Countless Stab Victims

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 06:15 AM PDT

An Israeli researcher at Ariel University in Samaria has discovered a revolutionary new method to stop the uncontrolled bleeding common in victims of stabbings - a medical innovation which could save countless lives in Israel and worldwide.

Over the past several months Israel has been engulfed by a wave of Arab terrorism, the majority of which have involved stabbings, as well as shootings and car ramming attacks.

More than 30 people have been murdered in the attacks and hundreds have been wounded. Many of the victims - which have included the elderly, children and mothers - bled to death after suffering multiple stab wounds and the accompanying rapid blood loss.

Along with ceaseless incitement, Palestinian terror groups such as Hamas and Fatah have circulated detailed instructions on how to most "effectively" stab or slash a victim to cause maximum damage, and as a result the injuries inflicted to Jewish victims are often extensive and extremely dangerous.

Until now the only blood-stopping solutions for the type of deep wounds caused by such violent stabbings are either too weak to effectively deal with them, or so strong that they cause deadly blood clots. Even the most able medical first responders often do not have the most effective solutions to save lives when every second counts.

Do Not Let Luck Dictate Life

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 06:07 AM PDT

As St. Patrick's Day approaches, troopers suggest those whose celebrations will include alcohol take time to make the right decision and designate a sober driver.

Based on past experience, Maryland state troopers are anticipating an increase in impaired driving as celebrants will be traveling on St. Patrick's Day to and from different locations to enjoy festivities throughout the state. With this in mind, Maryland State Police Superintendent Colonel William M. Pallozzi, has directed each of the 23 barracks to conduct saturation patrols focusing on impaired, aggressive, and distracted drivers. Additional troopers will be assigned.

"Luck should have no part in determining your St. Patrick's Day travel plans," Colonel Pallozzi said. "If alcohol is part of your celebration, then driving should not be. We will accept no excuses." There will be zero tolerance for anyone who elects to jeopardize the safety of others by choosing to drive while impaired.

During March 14-18, 2015, troopers arrested 158 drunk drivers. Driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 is evidence of intoxication and is against the law. A driver under the age of 21, with any measurable alcohol in their system is in violation of alcohol laws in Maryland.

Troopers at each of the 23 State Police barracks in Maryland will be involved in multiple initiatives from today through March 18th. Initiatives include saturation patrols in areas known to have a higher number of DUI crashes or arrests, and sobriety checkpoints, which are also conducted in locations where experience indicates they are most appropriate. Dozens of additional troopers will be supplementing the regular patrol duties. Some of the troopers will be working overtime, funded by DUI enforcement grants through the Maryland Highway Safety Office. The State Police Impaired Driving Effort, or SPIDRE Team, a full-time DUI enforcement squad, will be busy throughout the period.

If you are attending a St. Patrick's Day gathering:
Designate your sober driver before the party begins and give that person your car keys.
Avoid drinking too much alcohol too fast by pacing yourself – eat enough food, take breaks, and alternate with non-alcoholic drinks.
If you don't have a designated driver, ask a sober friend for a ride home; call a cab, friend, or family member to come and get you; or just stay where you are and sleep it off until you are sober.
Never let a friend leave your sight if you think they are about to drive while impaired.
Always buckle up – it's still your best protection against other impaired drivers.

If you are hosting a St. Patrick's Day gathering:
Remember, you can be held liable and prosecuted if someone you served ends up in an impaired-driving crash.
Be sure all of your guests designate their drivers in advance, or help arrange ride-sharing with sober drivers.
Serve lots of food and be sure to include plenty of non-alcoholic beverages at the party.
Keep the numbers for local cab companies handy, and take the keys away from anyone who is thinking of driving while impaired.

Justice Department: Stop criminalizing poverty

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 06:00 AM PDT

The Justice Department is calling on state and local officials to stop incarcerating defendants who are unable to pay fines or fees, and say the practice is unfair to lower-income people in the justice system.

Vanita Gupta, the head of the DOJ's Civil Rights Division, and Lisa Foster, director of the Office for Access to Justice, issued that warning in a letter sent to state court chief justices and administrators. That letter warned generally about using arrest warrants to collect money, and said that practice can end up putting poor people in jail when they can't pay.

"In addition to being unlawful, to the extent that these practices are geared not toward addressing public safety, but rather toward raising revenue, they can cast doubt on the impartiality of the tribunal and erode trust between local governments and their constituents," the letter reads.

When low-income defendants are unable to pay fines for misdemeanors or civil infractions or basic court fees, those individuals become trapped in "cycles of poverty," Gupta and Foster wrote. "Individuals may confront escalating debt; face repeated, unnecessary incarceration for nonpayment despite posing no danger to the community; lose their jobs; and become trapped in cycles of poverty that can be nearly impossible to escape."

Old Hippie Berns Out

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 05:45 AM PDT

Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton, through the sheer force of superdelegates and machine politics, seems to have finally put old Bernie Sanders to bed. As Politico notes:

Hillary Clinton trounced Bernie Sanders in the key states of Florida and Ohio on Tuesday night, pulling away in the delegate race and delivering a full-throated call to arms against Donald Trump in her victory speech.

The former secretary of state appeared to be on the verge of a clean sweep of the five contests of the night. She also scored victories in North Carolina and Illinois. In the fifth state, Missouri, Clinton was leading by about 1,500 votes with all but two precincts reporting early Wednesday morning.

"Tonight it's clearer than ever that this might be one of the most consequential campaigns of our lifetimes," Clinton said in a triumphant speech that clearly showed her turning her attention to Trump.

She laid out her standards for President Barack Obama's successor, and argued that Trump fell far short of them. "Our commander in chief has to be able to defend our country, not embarrass it," she said, adding that Trump's vision is a dangerous one.

Can Trump defeat the last socialist standing? What do you think?

Ted Cruz's Logo: Hilariously Appropriate

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 05:30 AM PDT

You know that "TrusTed" logo? The one with TRUS and TED merged, yet separated via different colors?

Turns out that when you Google "TRUS", the logo at once becomes hilarious and hilariously appropriate:

"A transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) is an ultrasound technique that is used to view a man's prostate and surrounding tissues. The ultrasound transducer (probe) sends sound waves through the wall of the rectum into the prostate gland, which is located directly in front of the rectum."

Yup, that's the very top Google result. Basically, it's an anal probe. Which makes us even more certain that he's actually an alien.

Well done, Ted!

Metrorail will shut down entirely Wednesday for safety checks, multiple sources report

The Washington DC Metro will be closing on March 16, according to officials who are citing "safety concerns."

The Office of Personnel Management told Federal News Radio it is following the situation and will provide an update later today.

General manager and CEO of WMATA Paul Wiedefeld held a press conference at 4:30 p.m. to make the official announcement. PaulWiedefeld

The shutdown is prompted by an incident on March 14 at McPherson Square Metro Station. An investigation into a cable fire shut down the orange, blue and silver lines.

"We must take action immediately," Wiedefeld said. "When I say safety is our highest priority, I mean it. I fully recognize the hardship this causes to the region and the community."

Trump's HUGE Night

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 05:15 AM PDT

Donald Trump is close to securing the nomination after a huge Super Tuesday. The New York billionaire won Florida, knocking out Marco Rubio, and also took contests in North Carolina and Illinois.

Trump failed to win Ohio, but with Rubio out of the picture, the frontrunner now faces a candidate in John Kasich who is mathematically incapable of securing enough delegates to win, and a candidate in Ted Cruz who has spent most of the race being exceedingly kind to him. It's hard to see how he doesn't have this race locked up.

Even Hillary Supporters Aren't That Excited For Hillary

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 04:30 AM PDT

Something To Ponder

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 04:00 AM PDT

Conservative Daily

A lot of people have brought up the fact that they won't vote for Trump if he's the eventual nominee. I just want to put something in perspective.

Justice Scalia's seat is vacant. Ginsberg is 82 years old, Kennedy is 79, Breyer is 77, and Thomas is 67. Nowadays, the data shows that the average age of a Supreme Court retirement or death occurs after 75.

These are 5 vacancies that will likely come up over the next 4-8 years. The next President will have the power to potentially create a 7-2 Supreme Court skewed in their ideology.

Think about that... 7-2. If the next President appoints 5 young justices, it will guarantee control of the Supreme Court for an entire generation. And 7-2 decisions will hold up much more over time than 5-4 decisions which are seemed to be lacking in mandate.

Hillary has made it clear she will use the Supreme Court to go after the 2nd Amendment. She has literally said that the Supreme Court was wrong in its Heller decision stating that the Court should overturn and remove the individual right to keep and bear arms. Period.

Everyone saying that they won't vote for one candidate or the other if they are the GOP nominee, please realize this. If Hillary Clinton wins and gets to make these appointments, you likely will never see another Conservative victory at the Supreme Court level for the rest of your life. Ever.

If you are a Conservative, a vote for anyone but the GOP nominee, whomever that will be, is a vote for Hillary Clinton.

If it is not Trump, I don't care, just remember…

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 03:30 AM PDT

ANNAPOLIS, MD - Governor Larry Hogan today announced V. Glenn Fueston, Jr., as the new executive director of the Governor's Office of Crime Control & Prevention. Fueston currently serves as the associate deputy director for Intelligence and Information Sharing at the Washington/Baltimore Area High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), a federal grant program administered by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy.

"Glenn's proven leadership and experience in collaborating with federal, state, and local partners to address drug trafficking will be a strong asset to our administration, particularly as we fight the heroin epidemic," said Governor Hogan. "His experience in using intelligence to reduce drug trafficking and related violent crime will guide the Office's grant-making decisions and priorities. I have every confidence Glenn will continue to use his expertise to lead the Governor's Office of Crime Control & Prevention."

"I am honored to support the Hogan administration by leading the Governor's Office of Crime Control & Prevention," said Fueston. "This is an exciting opportunity to protect our communities and make Maryland a better and safer place to live for all."

Fueston joined the Washington/Baltimore Area High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area in 1999. He is currently responsible for the Intelligence and Information Sharing Initiative, which includes the development, maintenance, and implementation of the HIDTA Performance Measurement Process System and Case Explorer and supporting the 850 law enforcement officers across Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia that work directly in the HIDTA environment.

Fueston will replace Christopher Shank, who was appointed as a deputy chief of staff to Governor Hogan on January 29, 2016.

Think gas prices are high!!!

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 03:00 AM PDT

All these examples do NOT imply that gasoline is cheap; it just illustrates how outrageous some prices are.

You will be really shocked by the last one (at least, I was)!!!

Think a gallon of gas is expensive?

This makes one think, and also puts things into perspective.

Diet Snapple, 16 oz , $1.29 ... $10.32 per gallon!

Starbuck's Reg. Coffee 16 oz, $2.10... $16.80 per gallon!

Lipton Ice Tea, 16 oz , $1.19 ... $9.52 per gallon!

Gatorade, 20 oz , $1.59 ..... $10.17 per gallon!

Ocean Spray, 16 oz , $1.25 .. $10.00 per gallon!

Brake Fluid, 12 oz , $3.15 .... $33.60 per gallon!

Vick's Nyquil, 6 oz , $8.35 ... $178.13 per gallon!

Pepto Bismol, 4 oz, $3.85 . $123.20 per gallon!

Whiteout, 7 oz , $1.39 ......... $25.42 per gallon!

Scope, 1.5 oz , $0.99 .....$84.48 per gallon!

And this is the REAL KICKER.

Evian water, 9 oz , $1.49 ...$21.19 per gallon! $21.19 for a gallon of WATER!!

and the buyers don't even know the source (Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)

Ever wonder why computer printers are so cheap? So they can hook you for the ink. Someone calculated the cost of the ink at, you won't believe it but it's true: $ 5,200 a gal.

Focuses on the Administration's Commitment to Increased Economic Development and Job Creation

ANNAPOLIS, MD –
Governor Larry Hogan today delivered the keynote address at Maryland Business for Responsive Government's State of Business Luncheon. This marks the second year that he has been invited to keynote this annual event, which centers on Maryland's current business climate and plans for improvement.

In his remarks, Governor Hogan focused on the goals shared by his administration and Maryland Business for Responsive Government (MBRG) – increased economic development and job creation.

"I hope you all know by now that with our administration, the business community has a friend in the governor's office," said Governor Hogan. "Maryland should be a place where startups can thrive and grow, where Fortune 500 companies look to invest, and where family-owned businesses can support generation after generation."

With these goals in mind, the governor highlighted some of the progress made over the past year. Since Governor Hogan declared that Maryland is open for business in 2015, the state's economy has added more than 45,000 new jobs — the largest gain Maryland has experienced in the past decade. In addition, tolls were cut at every single facility in the state for the first time in more than 50 years, and more than 100 different fees were reduced or eliminated. Thanks to these and other initiatives, the Hogan administration has put more than $600 million back into the state's economy, and back into the pockets of Maryland taxpayers.

"When I was here a year ago, I pledged that we would put Maryland on a new path and create a more business-friendly future for our state. With your help, that is exactly what we have done, and I know it's an effort and commitment that we can count on going into the future."

Maryland Business for Responsive Government is a statewide, nonpartisan political research and education organization. To help foster economic development and job creation, MBRG educates elected officials on Maryland's business climate, and then holds them accountable for their votes.
