Slain Officer's Message of Hope

Montrell Jackson was one of the officer's tragically slain in Baton Rouge this weekend. But before that, he had a message of hope for police and protesteres. As CNN notes:

Four days after the police-involved shooting of Alton Sterling turned his city upside down, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Police officer Montrell Jackson issued a plea to the embattled community and vowed to do his part to help it heal."

These are trying times. Please don't let hate infect your heart. This city MUST and WILL get better," the 32-year-old officer wrote in a July 8 Facebook post.And, to all the protesters, officers, friends, family and neighbors in need of a hug or a prayer in Baton Rouge, he offered a promise: "I got you."

One week later, on Sunday, Jackson's life was cut short in a shootout that left three officers dead and three more injured, law enforcement said.

Ocean City, MD Officials Deem America First As Hate Speech

Censorship has now taken to the sky...

As many of you know, the Constitution is 'my thing,' so when it came to my attention that Ocean City's Mayor, Rick Meehan, had contacted Ocean Aerials in order to cease political banner adverts from flying the skies over the Atlantic, it titillated my interest.

As the torrid tale goes, he spoke to business owner, Bob Bunting, about the voluminous alleged complaints regarding such fly-by ads as "Stop Mad Cow Disease Defeat Hillary," "Stop Hillary" and "America First, Build the Wall" from a plethora of residents and tourists alike. While the OC Council and Mayor claim these are offensive statements on the premise that Ocean City is a "family-friendly" resort town, I find it highly hypocritical, indeed.

A town which hosts such businesses as The Bearded Clam, BJ's on the Water, Big Peckers, the Red Light District Adult shop and Hooters -- all with highly suggestive names steeped in sexuality, to say "America First' as being offensive is absurd. Additionally, if you've strolled the Boardwalk in recent years, it's not uncommon to see scantly clad visitors, wearing less than my wife wears to bed.

Therefore, it seems that it's not political messages that offends but its Donald Trump's message that molests the ever-sensitive Liberals whom believe their First Amendment Right usurps all others with different opinions and/or views.

Apparently, to the OC Gestapo, it's perfectly acceptable for buxom blondes with size D-cup brassieres to parade around "families" in hot pants and tight t-shirts with the word, Hooters, strategically placed to lead one's eye to the feminine form, but to say Stop Hillary or America First is considered hate speech. In short, once again, the Democrats have launched some hysterical meme that further quashes others' rights to free speech simply because they don't like what that free speech has to say!

More troubling is local media plays along with the idea that Bunting's acquiescence to this insidious request as being fine. WBOC, The Daily Times and The Dispatch have completely disregarded others' right to free speech which has now been silenced by the local regime. Instead of rushing to defend the owner's right to do business as he sees fit, they brush off this abuse of power as a pass.

Not only is this is a dereliction of their journalistic integrity, its an affront to the very premise of free press which is a cornerstone of this country! How dare them not defend all of our First Amendment rights instead of catering to the local political directives of the pansy leaders in our communities.

Is this what America has come to? The complete obliteration of our rights as guaranteed by the Constitution in order to placate feigned offense?

It seems in Ocean City, Maryland, the answer is: Yes!

While it appears Mr. Bunting did agree to this farce and stopped running the adverts, he has folded to an idiom that permeates our life! With these flights costing $400.00 per fly -- that's a nice chunk of change he's forfeited to placate Nanny State whiners and yet, it's all in vain. Why? Because as I said above, whether the Council and Mayor want to admit it, Ocean City is far from a family-friendly haven.

To me, this family-oriented vacation defense sounds like an obtuse way of saying "censorship!"

Groundskeepers at Arlington Cemetery walking off job

ARLINGTON, Va.- Two dozen groundskeepers at Arlington National Cemetery protested for better pay and sick leave on Tuesday.

Mario Ramirez was one of the protesters who was joined by representatives from the Laborers' International Union of North America.

For 15 years, Ramirez has worked as a landscaper under Delaware-based Greenleaf Services, a subcontractor, and Ohio-based Davey Tree Expert Company. But, even as a longtime employee, he said he has never had a raise and that making a living gets more difficult by the day.

"Everything goes up," Ramirez said. "My rent goes up, the groceries and my wage stays stagnant."

"It's really hard to live off of that right now," he said. Most of the workers make around $13 an hour.

In the wake of the killing of three Baton Rouge police officers, Fox News' Judge Jeanine Pirro argued Monday that the "seeds" of "racial hatred began with President Barack Obama."

Appearing on "Fox & Friends," Pirro said, "The seeds of this racial hatred began with President Barack Obama and the irony is that the American people elected him totally color-blind to the color of his skin and hoping that this country will come together."

"The truth is that the cop killing has become normalized in America," Pirro said. "There is a narrative that started at the White House, and the president continues it to this day. He can soften his words but the truth is that when you're at the funeral of five white Dallas cops killed because they are white by a black man who said he killed them because they're white cops and you talk about racism, Jim Crow laws, centuries of hatred."

Pennsylvania woman injured in swimming competition In Ocean City

A Lancaster woman was struck by a boat while competing in a 3-mile open-water swim in Ocean City, Maryland, over the weekend, authorities said.

Heather Gehron-Rice, 44, suffered a cut to her left hand, most likely caused by the boat's propeller, Maryland Natural Resources Police officials said.

Gehron-Rice, who lives in Lancaster city, was competing in the annual Ocean Games held along the shoreline of the popular vacation destination and was within sight of the finish line Saturday when she was hit, authorities said

Gehron-Rice told police she was swimming and could see the finish when she felt something hit her head. She immediately realized there was something wrong with her hand but could not remember what struck her, public information officer Candy Thompson told LNP Monday.

Motive sought in double fatal shooting inside Titusville hospital

David Owens, 29, facees premeditated murder charges

TITUSVILLE, Fla. - The scene outside Parrish Medical Center in Titusville is getting back to normal after police say a man opened fire, killing a patient and an employee.

Titusville police have arrested David Owens, 29, on two counts of premeditated murder.

Brevard County Court records show Owens has an extensive history of interactions with police, including issues with mental illness and substance abuse.

Titusville police said Owens opened fire just after 2 a.m. on Sunday morning. Investigators said Owens made his way to the third floor.

Owens is accused of shooting an 88-year-old patient Cynthia Zingsheim, in her room. Zingsheim was pronounced dead at the scene. Her neighbor said she moved into an assisted-living facility a couple of years ago.

"It was always a pleasure seeing her out there. We would talk periodically. Always had a pleasant smile. Pleasant words. Very concerned about people," said Charles Hickmon, who had known Zingsheim for almost a decade. He describes her as a caring woman.

With NAACP Speech, Hillary Goes Full “Black Lives Matter, White Lives Don’t”

Only a day after another black radical—this time a member of the Nation of Islam—opened fire on white police in Baton Rouge (killing two white officers and one black officer, injuring multiple other white officers), the presumptive nominee for the Democrat Party has doubled down on the idea that racist white police are still out there hunting innocent black people.

Honestly, it's hard to even keep a straight-face when reading what Hillary Clinton just told the NAACP National Convention in Cincinnati: that she will personally not stop leading a crusade against police "until we root out implicit bias and stop the killings of African Americans."

She continued:
As president, l will bring the full weight of the law to bear and making sure those who kill police officers are brought to justice…And let's admit it, there is clear evidence that African-Americans are disproportionately killed in police incidents compared to any other group. And African-American men are far more likely to be stopped and searched by police, charged with crimes and sentenced to longer prison terms than white men convicted of the same offenses. These facts tell us something is profoundly wrong. We can't ignore that, we can't wish it away.

Stupid is as Stupid does

Ask any person not your child between the ages of 18 and 25 if they ever heard of the Nuremberg Trials. 1 in 13 might say they have but will not be able to tell you "what" was on trial (not who). Those same people will not be able to tell you the name of the Vice President. 84% of those who receive this will not read it completely, or at all. 10% will but will also chose not to forward it. The remaining 6% will forward it.

Stupid is as stupid does...

The war started in the 7th century and lasted through the 17th century.

I would contend it never stopped but historically the facts below are correct. This is why I choke when I hear someone say we will defeat or contain these Islamic terrorists in a few years or even 30 years as recently stated by Leon Panetta.

If the latest batch of murders, beheadings, and killing of innocent Christians has shocked you, maybe you should read this compilation of historical facts about the hatred of Muslims.

WE, THE STUPID

This is factually (and historically) correct - and verifiable:

In 732 A.D. the Muslim Army, which was moving on Paris, was defeated and turned back at Tours, France, by Charles Martell.

In 1571 A.D. the Muslim Army/Navy was defeated by the Italians and Austrians as they tried to cross the Mediterranean to attack southern Europe in the Battle of Lepanto.

In 1683 A.D. the Turkish Muslim Army, attacking Eastern Europe, was finally defeated in the Battle of Vienna by German and Polish Christian Armies.

This crap has been going on for 1,400 years and half of the politicians don't even know it.

If these battles had not been won, we might be speaking Arabic and Christianity could be non-existent; Judaism certainly would not exist.

Reflecting: A lot of Americans have become so insulated from reality that they imagine that America can suffer defeat without any
inconvenience to themselves. Pause a moment and reflect back.

These events are actual events from history. They really happened!

It's been 48 years since 1968 and this just keeps going on and on.

1. In 1968, Bobby Kennedy was shot and killed by a Muslim male.

2. In 1972, at the Munich Olympics, Israeli athletes were kidnapped and massacred by Muslim males.

3. In 1972, a Pan Am 747 was hijacked and eventually diverted to Cairo where a fuse was lit on final approach. Shortly after landing it was blown up by Muslim males.

4. In 1973, a Pan Am 707 was destroyed in Rome, with 33 people killed, when it was attacked with grenades by Muslim males.

5. In 1979, the US embassy in Iran was taken over by Muslim males.

6. During the 1980's a number of Americans were kidnapped in Lebanon by Muslim males.

7. In 1983, the US Marine barracks in Beirut was blown up by Muslim males.

8. In 1985, the cruise ship Achille Lauro was hijacked and a 70-year old American passenger was murdered and thrown overboard in his wheelchair by Muslim males.

9. In 1985, TWA flight 847 was hijacked at Athens, and a US Navy diver trying to rescue passengers was murdered by Muslim males.

10. In 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 was bombed by Muslim males.

11. In 1993, the World Trade Center was bombed the first time by Muslim males.

12. In 1998, the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania were bombed by Muslim males.

13. On 9/11/01, four airliners were hijacked; two were used as missiles to take down the World Trade Centers and of the remaining two, one crashed into the US Pentagon and the other was diverted and crashed by the passengers. Thousands of people were killed by Muslim males.

14. In 2002, the United States fought a war in Afghanistan against Muslim males.

15. In 2002, reporter Daniel Pearl was kidnapped and beheaded by - you guessed it - a Muslim male. (Plus two other American journalists who were just recently beheaded).

16. In 2013, the Boston Marathon Bombing resulted in 4 Innocent people, (including a child) being killed and 264 people injured by Muslim males.

No Obama, I really don't see a pattern here to justify profiling, do you?

So, to ensure we Americans never offend anyone, particularly fanatics intent on killing us, airport security screeners will no longer be allowed to profile certain people.

So, ask yourself "Just how stupid are we???"

Absolutely No Profiling! They must conduct random searches of 80-year-old women, nuns, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, secret agents who are members of the Obama's security detail, 85-year-old Congressmen with metal hips, and Medal of Honor winner and former Governor Joe Foss, BUT........leave Muslim Males alone lest we be guilty of profiling.

Ask yourself, "Just how stupid are we?"

Have the American people completely lost their minds or just their Power of Reason???

Let's send this to as many people as we can so that the Gloria Alred's and other stupid attorneys, along with Federal Justices, that want to thwart common sense, feel ashamed of themselves -- if they have any such sense.

Complaint filed against 2 prosecutors in police death case

WASHINGTON (AP) — A George Washington University law professor is filing complaints against two Baltimore prosecutors over the investigation and prosecution of six police officers in the death of a black man injured in a police van.

John Banzhaf III said Tuesday he is filing complaints seeking the disbarment of Chief Deputy State's Attorney Michael Schatzow and Deputy State's Attorney Janice Bledsoe with Maryland's Attorney Grievance Commission. He filed a similar complaint against State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby.

Banzhaf says prosecutors violated officers' constitutional rights by not turning over exculpatory evidence and professional conduct rules requiring prosecutors to refrain from prosecuting a charge unless it is supported by probable cause.

So far, trials for four of the six officers charged in Freddie Gray's 2015 death have led to three acquittals and a mistrial.

Don't Reform The Fed, Fed-Exit!

Opponents of a central bank should take advantage of the post-Brexit vote revival of secessionist sentiments to promote a secession from central banking, or "Fed-exit." Ending the Federal Reserve's monopoly on money is the key to restoring and maintaining our liberty and prosperity.

By manipulating the money supply to fix interest rates, the Federal Reserve engages in price fixing. After all, interest rates are nothing more than the price of money. Like all prices, they communicate information about economic conditions to market actors. Federal Reserve attempts to override the market rate of interest with a Fed-favored rate distort the price signals sent to businesses, investors, and consumers. The result of this distortion is a Fed-created boom, followed by a Fed-created bust.

The Fed's action affects the entire economy and impacts the lives of all Americans, as well as of people around the world. Therefore, it is no exaggeration to say that the attempt to fix interest rates is the most harmful example of price fixing.

Many who normally oppose government intervention in the marketplace claim that central banking could work if only the Fed adhered to a monetary rule. Supporters of a "rules-based" monetary policy claim that a rules-based approach will bring stability and predictability to monetary policy, and thus put the economy on a path to permanent prosperity. But under a rules-based monetary policy, the Federal Reserve retains the power to manipulate interest rates. So under a rules-based approach, investors and entrepreneurs would still receive distorted price signals, which would still result in a boom-bust cycle. No rule can fix the flaws inherent in our system of monetary central planning.

Work To Begin On New OC Boat Ramp on 64th Street

OCEAN CITY — The new public boat ramp at 64th Street in Ocean City is expected to break ground this month with a targeted completion date before the next summer season.

During a larger discussion of the proposed $25 million expansion and improvement project for the town's public works complex last Tuesday, City Engineer Terry McGean told the Mayor and Council the long-awaited public boat ramp along the bay in the adjacent area is expected to break ground next week. The council on July 12 accepted the low bid from Murtech Marine of $714,849 for the construction of the new public access boat ramp at 64th Street. The project was originally budgeted for roughly $1.5 million with the state's Department of Natural Resources (DNR) funding 100 percent of the needed dredge work to facilitate the new ramp up to $500,000 and 50 percent of the site work up to $315,000.

The new boat ramp at 64th Street will replace the town's only other existing public access boat ramp in the Little Salisbury area. After years of wrestling with an outdated and over-utilized public boat ramp in the Little Salisbury residential area, along with complaints of traffic, parking, noise and litter, the town identified the site at 64th Street as a more appropriate location for the city-owned boat ramp because of it is surrounded by commercial and governmental uses and is located closer to the center of the resort.

Trimpers Rides Confirmed As Country’s Oldest Family-Owned Amusement Park (Likely Even The World’s)

OCEAN CITY — It should come as no surprise to the generations of visitors to Ocean City, but Trimpers Rides and Amusements at the foot of the Boardwalk is the oldest "family owned and operated" park in the U.S. and technically the world, a noted amusement park historian confirmed this week.

Two years ago, Trimpers was featured on a Fox Business News channel show entitled "Strange Inheritance" and it came to light the iconic park on the foot of the Boardwalk near the Inlet was likely the oldest family-owned amusement park in the U.S.

National Amusement Park Historical Association historian Jim Futrell was interviewed during the show and commented on the family's ownership longevity. The Trimper family reached out to Futrell following the show's taping and asked him to research the oldest amusement parks in the nation and across the globe and determine if his statements made during the "Strange Inheritance" show were verifiable.

"It came about when they were filming 'Strange Inheritance' and they interviewed Jim Futrell, who is an amusement park historian and has written several books and done extensive research on the subject," said Trimper family spokesperson Brooks Trimper this week. "We followed up with him after the show and he did some research and confirmed we are the oldest 'family-operated' park in the nation and technically in the world."

Homicides in DC Continue to Climb

The homicide rate in Washington, D.C. has skyrocketed in recent years, and authorities there continue to be worried about the 2016 numbers.

According to figures from the Metropolitan Police Department, last year saw 162 homicides in the nation's capital, a huge jump from the 105 that happened in 2014. This year, the figure is already at 70 — just seven shy from this date in 2015.

The city's 20-year high is 397 in 1996.

The Daily Caller highlights several recent homicides in the city, which follows an outbreak of violence across the United States. Weeks of violence across the country have left both civilians and police officers dead.

Narrative: On 7/20/2016 at approximately 0715 hours, Troopers were dispatched to Talbot Street and Philadelphia Ave for a motor vehicle collision involving a school bus. Troopers discovered the collision occurred on the Harry Kelly Bridge when a 2015 Lincoln Sedan driven by Kyle Kenney (21) of Orrtanna, PA was traveling in the slow lane when he apparently crossed into the fast lane where it made contact with a school bus driven by Donald Moore (53) of Berlin, MD. The school bus had 2 children on board ages 7 and 8. Both vehicles continued east and stopped at Philadelphia Ave at Talbot St. Both vehicles sustained minor damage and nobody was injured. The driver of the Lincoln, Kyle Kenney, was subsequently arrested for DUI after submitted to field sobriety testing. While in custody at the Berlin Barrack, Kenney became combative and assaulted a Trooper. The Trooper was not injured. Kenney was charged with 2nd Degree Assault, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct, Driving under the Influence, Driving While Impaired, Driving under combined Influence and Negligent Driving. Kenney was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his charges.

N.Korea Fires Three Ballistic Missiles

North Korea fired three ballistic missiles early on Tuesday into the sea off its east coast that had a range of between 500 and 600 kilometres (300 and 360 miles), South Korea's military said.

The missiles were launched towards east from an area in the North's western region called Hwangju from 5:45 a.m. local time (2045 GMT Monday) to 6:40 a.m., the South's military said.

"The ballistic missiles flight went from 500 kilometres to 600 kilometres, which is a distance far enough to strike all of South Korea including Busan," the South's military said in a statement.

Busan is a South Korean port city in the south.

Here are some key points from the report:

- A typical millennial will earn about £8,000 ($10,600) less during their twenties than those in the previous generation -- Generation X. That's partially due to the Great Recession, but also due to other factors including "a lack of productivity boosting training for young people."

John Banzhaf, law professor, seeks disbarment of Baltimore prosecutors in Freddie Gray cases

Legal analysts ripped Baltimore prosecutors Monday over their handling of the Freddie Gray case, saying the prosecution should drop all charges against the three remaining police officers or risk more embarrassment in the courtroom.

What's more, John Banzhaf, an activist law professor at George Washington University, said he would file a complaint Tuesday with the Maryland Attorney Grievance Commission calling for the disbarment of the lead prosecutors in the trials of the six police officers accused of wrongdoing in the 2015 arrest and death of the 25-year-old black man.

The pointed criticism came Monday after Lt. Brian Rice was acquitted of all charges for his role in Gray's arrest and death. The lieutenant was the highest-ranking of the accused officers, and his full acquittal was the third consecutive loss for prosecutors. Another trial ended in a hung jury in December, and a retrial has been scheduled.

The 'BLM' Paradox - Black Accountability Matters

Given recent distressing killings between Blacks and police -in the past week - it is worth poring into the broad statistics that underlie homicides in this country, by race.  The subject here has become far more emotional of late due to three reasons:

  • (A) a lack of recent official national data covering homicides by race and by the police,
  • (B) activists have somewhat diverted our attention away from the broader statistics and instead focused us on a few edited videos of murders under the premise that this is what all Whites are about, and
  • (C) we have an election season where both sides of the aisle want a voice on this topic as it comports with their "broader" socioeconomic policies.
It is as important to get the truth out there in terms of where the threat lies, as it is to be compassionate to the many thousands of murdered innocent Americans (of all stripes) each year but that happen disproportionately by one race.  It is also worth reminding that the vast majority of initial deplorable headlines, about Blacks killed by police, have never later led to convictions by a balanced jury of peers who saw more concerning evidence than the (social) media showed you.  Clearly there are some false positives, though there are far many more false negatives.
 
Let's start by dissecting some headlines recently by both Former Mayor Giuliani, and also blogger Nate Silver.  Both have made slightly different points, though both are factual in some sense, one is generally closer aligned to the broad statistics.

  • In the U.S. Blacks are killed at nearly 8x the rates of Whites. (based on this Silver is pointing to Rwanda, though brining this up in this past week only conflates and misdiagnosis the situation)
Now let's dig into these deaths, by race:
  • If you are Black, then you were nearly 9x as likely to have been killed by another Black versus by the police.  And there was a very little chance at all that a White civilian killed you. (based on this Giuliani is wrong only in the accuracy of his stated probability, during a conversation about Black Lives Matter, but he is certainly close)
  • If you are instead White, then you were nearly 3x as likely to have been killed by another White versus by either the police or a Black civilian (this too would have supported Giuliani's point, though he chose to never make it)
  • To drive home the point of where the threat is, something critical should be retold as we will below, that the 8x murder rate for Blacks versus Whites would rise to 8.5x if there were no police murders at all. (this reflects how much more impactful police killings are on White people then they truly have on Blacks)

According to a Monmouth University poll released Monday, Trump leads Hillary Clinton 40-31 among independents, a 9-point lead just a month after the same poll said the two candidates were tied among those voters.

That gain allowed Trump to get within the margin of error against Clinton. Among likely voters, Clinton stood still in July and was the choice of 45 percent of those polled.

FBI to start handing over deleted Clinton emails to State on Friday

New York magazine's Gabriel Sherman is reporting that Rupert Murdoch and his sons Lachlan and James have decided to remove Fox News CEO Roger Ailes, following a sexual harassment lawsuit by former anchor Gretchen Carlson.

Customer Service Initiative Allows Qualified Veterans to Skip the Trip to MVA

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Larry Hogan today announced that the Maryland Department of Transportation's Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) will begin issuing permanent vehicle registration cards and license plate stickers to Maryland veterans who qualify as 100 percent disabled. While the stickers and registration cards have been free to qualified veterans for several years, this allows qualified veterans to skip the trip to the MVA to renew their registration. This initiative was developed by employees at the MVA and is part of Governor Hogan's initiative to improve customer service across Maryland state agencies.

"Since taking office, our administration has been committed to finding ways to provide veterans the support they have earned and deserve," said Governor Hogan. "This includes tax relief, down payment assistance for home ownership, and expanded job opportunities. Today's announcement is another opportunity to give back to our veterans and show our gratitude to those brave men and women who have served our country."

Qualified veterans do not need to take any action to enjoy this new benefit. The MVA will begin mailing the permanent registration cards and stickers on August 1 to approximately 5,200 Maryland veterans who qualify as 100 percent disabled as determined by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Prior to this initiative, qualified Maryland veterans had to renew their vehicle registration, free of charge, every two years at an MVA office.

"Governor Hogan challenged us to improve services to our customers and we are delivering on his call to action," said Transportation Secretary Pete K. Rahn. "By avoiding a trip to the MVA, we are saving time not only for our veterans, but also for customers who must visit one of our offices to complete a transaction."

"In keeping with the Governor's commitment to improve customer service, the MVA's new policy now makes vehicle registration more convenient for veterans living with disabilities," said Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary George W. Owings, III. "The issuance of permanent registration cards follows the designation of veteran on the front of the driver's license and identification card. These two new practices demonstrate Maryland's continued commitment to supporting the men and women who honorably served in the U.S. Armed Forces."

Last month, Governor Hogan launched the Customer Service Initiative, a continuous program designed to foster improvements in customer service across Maryland state agencies. Governor Larry Hogan Announces $229.6 Million Plan to Reduce Congestion along I-270 Corridor

$100 million for I-270 Innovative Congestion Management Project, $129.6 million for interchange at I-270 and Watkins Mill Road

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Larry Hogan today announced a $229.6 million plan to ease traffic backups along the heavily-congested I-270 corridor and on local roads in Montgomery County. In keeping with the administration's efforts to advance long-overdue highway projects, Governor Hogan unveiled $100 million in new funding for the I-270 Innovative Congestion Management Project to improve travel times throughout the I-270 corridor. In conjunction with the corridor project, the Maryland Department of Transportation's State Highway Administration (SHA) will construct a new $129.6 million interchange at I-270 and Watkins Mill Road to reduce congestion on local roads and improve safety for residents and commuters.

The Hogan administration is also delivering an additional $1 million for shuttle bus service that will transport riders between Metro stations. This will ensure that citizens are still able to get to work and move around efficiently when Metro repairs are taking place later this year.

"Our administration is committed to finding the best ideas that offer real solutions, and I'm excited to see innovation in action when it comes to solving the problem of congestion on I-270," said Governor Hogan. "We are calling on the most creative minds in the transportation industry to step forward, as we continue our investment in critical infrastructure projects that will help citizens in Montgomery County, and all across our state."

The I-270 Innovative Congestion Management project will reduce congestion and delays along the corridor in Montgomery and Frederick counties. The 35-mile, I-270 corridor carries from 79,400 vehicles a day on the north end of I-270 to 261,200 vehicles a day near the Capital Beltway. By the year 2035, these volumes will increase to 107,000 to 290,000 vehicles a day. Traffic congestion hinders economic development and makes travel unreliable through the corridor.

SHA issued a request for proposals on June 7 for $100 million in state funding. Statements of Qualifications are due by July 25. The first project concepts will be discussed between late August and late October with final proposals submitted January 5, 2017. The selection of the successful proposer will occur in February, with the notice to proceed for the design/build contractor next spring.

"We are looking worldwide for any and all ideas," said Transportation Secretary Pete K. Rahn. "The winning proposer will move the most vehicles, the fastest, the farthest."

At today's event, Governor Hogan also announced that the new I-270/Watkins Mill interchange project will be advertised in spring 2017 and start construction next summer. The $129.6 million project will support economic development and reduce congestion at the nearby I-270/MD 124 interchange and MD 355/MD 124 intersection to the south. The new interchange also will provide access from I-270 to the Metropolitan Grove MARC station. This section of I-270 now carries 166,000 vehicles a day and is estimated to grow to 235,000 vehicles a day by 2035.

Today's announcement demonstrates Governor Hogan's commitment to safety and infrastructure improvements in every jurisdiction in the state and is part of the $788 million in transportation investments in Montgomery County over six years, including: $566.7 million for highways, $220.8 million for transit and $381,594 in aviation grants for Montgomery County Airport.

Charm City: It’s Not About Freddie Gray, but Baltimore’s Economic Plunge

After today's acquittal of Lt. Brian Rice in the ongoing Freddie Gray saga, lead prosecutor Marilyn Mosby is batting a perfect 0-4. The three previous defendants were similarly acquitted, with two (and perhaps three) more officers to take the stand in the future.

It appears that Marilyn Mosby's prosecutions have been politically motivated and without foundation. The big problem, however, is that Freddie Gray has taken the focus off of Baltimore's long and painful economic plunge – a plunge that can be laid squarely at the feet of Charm City's long embrace of anti-market economic policies.

My colleague, Prof. Stephen J.K. Walters, and I wrote about this in the Investor's Business Daily on April 22, 2016: "One Year After: Freddie Gray and 'Structural Statism'."

Here is some of what we wrote about how the path of structural statism has contributed to Baltimore's poverty and associated problems.

"When Freddie Gray was born in 1989, Baltimore hosted 787,000 residents and 445,000 jobs. By the time his fatal injuries in police custody provoked riots last April, the city's population had fallen by one fifth, to 623,000, and its job base had shrunk by one quarter, to 334,000.

Little wonder that throughout his life, Mr. Gray had never been legally employed. Nevertheless, friends and family considered him "a good provider," according to The Baltimore Sun.

Facts are: Hillary's main extra-curricular activity in 'Law School' was helping the Black Panthers, on trial in Connecticut for torturing and killing a 'Federal Agent.' She went to Court every day as part of a Law student monitoring committee trying to spot civil rights violations and develop grounds for appeal.

Bill says: "Hillary spent a year after graduation working on a Children's rights project for poor kids."

Facts are: Hillary interned with Bob Truehaft, the head of the California Communist Party. She met Bob when he represented the Panthers and traveled all the way to San Francisco to take an internship with him.

Bill says: "Hillary could have written her own job ticket, but she turned down all the lucrative job offers."

Facts are: She flunked the D.C. Bar exam, 'Yes', flunked it, it is a matter of record, and only passed the Arkansas bar. She had no job offers in Arkansas, 'None', and only got hired by the University of Arkansas Law School at Fayetteville because Bill was already teaching there. She did not join the prestigious Rose Law Firm until Bill became Arkansas Attorney General and was made a partner only after he was elected Arkansas Governor.

Bill says: "President Carter appointed Hillary to the Legal Services Board of Directors and she became its Chairman."

Facts are: The appointment was in exchange for Bill's support for Carter in his 1980 primary against Ted Kennedy. Hillary then became chairman in a coup in which she won a majority away from Carter's choice to be chairman.

Bill says: "She served on the board of the Arkansas Children's Hospital."

Facts are: Yes she did. But her main board activity, not mentioned by Bill, was to sit on the Wal-Mart Board of Directors, for a substantial fee. She was silent about their labor and health care practices.

Bill says: "Hillary didn't succeed at getting health care for all Americans in 1994 but she kept working at it and helped to create the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) that provides five million children with health insurance."
Facts are: Hillary had nothing to do with creating CHIP. It was included in the budget deal between Clinton and Republican Majority Leader Senator Trent Lott. I know; I helped to negotiate the deal. The money came half from the budget deal and half from the Attorney Generals' tobacco settlement. Hillary had nothing to do with either source of funds.

Bill says: "Hillary was the face of America all over the World." (LOL)

Facts are: Her visits were part of a program to get her out of town so that Bill would not appear weak by feeding stories that Hillary was running the White House. Her visits abroad were entirely touristic and symbolic and there was no substantive diplomacy on any of them.

Bill says: "Hillary was an excellent Senator who kept fighting for Children's and Women's issues."

Facts are: Other than totally meaningless legislation like changing the names on courthouses and post offices, she has passed only four substantive pieces of legislation. One set up a national park in Puerto Rico. A second provided respite care for family members helping their relatives through Alzheimer's or other conditions. And two were routine bills to aid 911 victims and responders which were sponsored by the entire N.Y. Delegation. Presently, she is trying to have the U.S. Memorialize Woodstock.

Here is what bothers me more than anything else about Hillary Clinton. She has done everything possible to weaken the President and our Country (that's you and me) when it comes to the 'War on Terror'.

1. She wants to close GITMO and move the combatants to the USA where they would have access to our legal system.

2. She wants to eliminate the monitoring of suspected Al Qaeda phone calls to/from the USA.

3. She wants to grant constitutional rights to enemy combatants captured on the battlefield.

4. She wants to eliminate the monitoring of money transfers between suspected Al Qaeda cells and supporters in the USA.

5. She wants to eliminate the type of interrogation tactics used by the Military & CIA where coercion might be used when questioning known terrorists even though such tactics might save American lives.

One cannot think of a single 'Bill', Hillary has introduced or a single comment she has made that would tend to strengthen our Country in the 'War on Terror'. But, one can think of a lot of comments she has made that weaken our Country and makes it a more dangerous situation for all of us.

Bottom line: She goes hand in hand with the ACLU on far too many issues where common sense is abandoned.

State Dept. Releases Phone Transcript of Hillary Admitting She Knew Benghazi Was Planned Attack

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton blamed an "awful" internet video for the deaths of four Americans in the terror attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi.

Hillary made the comments just three days after the assault on the compound that killed Ambassador Stevens, Sean Smith, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty.

Hillary lied—

The State Department released a phone transcipt this week that proves Hillary Clinton knew the Benghazi massacre was a planned attack and not a protest.

Judicial Watch obtained the documents this week.

The conservative political watchdog group Judicial Watch obtained a transcript of telephone call between the then-secretary of state and then-Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Kandil.

"We know the attack in Libya had nothing to do with the film," Clinton told Kandil. "It was a planned attack – not a protest."

Kandil agreed.

"You're not kidding. Based on the information we saw today we believe that group that claimed responsibility for this is affiliated with al-Qaida."

OCEAN CITY — Against the backdrop of the Republican National Convention and its presumptive presidential nominee, the typically innocent skies over the resort this week briefly became the subject of controversy with politically-charged banner plane messages that were quickly pulled.

On Monday afternoon, the Mayor and Council and other city officials were blitzed with hundreds of emails from visitors and residences complaining of strong political messages gracing the banner plane advertisements traditionally reserved for all-you-can-eat buffets, what band is playing where, the best happy hour specials, iced coffee specials and even iconic Coppertone suntan lotion.

Mayor Rick Meehan said during Monday's council meeting resort officials had received hundreds of emails about the somewhat controversial ads, which included messages such as "Stop Mad Cow Disease-Defeat Hillary," and "America First-Build The Wall Now,"

Meehan said he reached out to Ocean Aerial Ads and owner-operator Bob Bunting about the controversial ads and the company, which has been flying over the resort skies, for decades, made the decision to pull them.

A former Eastern Shore police chief who alleged racism after he was fired without explanation has been indicted on misconduct in office charges by the state prosecutors' office.

Kelvin Sewell, 53, a retired Baltimore Police homicide detective who now works for the Baltimore State's Attorney's Office, was indicted by a Worcester County grand jury Tuesday, court records show. The allegations stem from a November 2014 incident, the records show.

The Pocomoke City Council fired Sewell in 2015 and gave no justification for the move, saying it was a personnel matter. The dismissal divided the town of 4,000: Sewell, who was Pocomoke City's first black police chief, alleged it was retribution for him standing up for two black officers who complained about racism.

5 Ways The College Textbook Industry Gets You To Pay More For Textbooks (And How To Get Around It)

The tuition cost was haunting. The dorm bill was daunting. The laptop your favorite college freshman just had to have cost more than your first car.

Now all she has left to do is hit the college bookstore with her list of required textbooks. Don't be surprised if she comes out crying.

A recent study by the United States Government Accountability office showed that the average prices for textbooks have risen 82 percent in just 10 years.

Many expected that internet access would help bring costs down, but the college textbook industry appears to be keeping students from saving money by using such tactics as college specific books, book bundling and eTextbooks, all of which raise prices.

Luckily there is something you can do about it. You just need to do a little homework before classes start. "There are many ways you can save when buying textbooks that the college textbook industry doesn't want you to know about," says Chris Manns of the price comparison websites CheapestTextbooks.com and TextbookRentals.com. Both free services help students locate the cheapest prices for millions of books.

Here's his list of the ways the college textbook industry gets you to pay more, and some tips for paying less:

• College Specific Books: Colleges have started asking students to buy college specific books. They take a commonly used textbook and have it printed with the college name and course number on the cover. This gives the book a new ISBN (International Standard Book Number) that is typically only available at the college it was made for.
The workaround: Ask the professor if it's OK to use the book's common version. "The common version will be available online and, in almost all cases, be much cheaper and apart from the cover, it'll be the exact same. When you rent or buy it online, you'll be able to rent or buy it used from anybody," Manns says.
• Book Bundling: Students are sometimes required to buy a "book bundle" with extra class materials that add to the cost. "These bundles often include items the professors aren't even using," Manns says.
The workaround: Email the professor or wait until the class starts and ask if the professor will be using the supplemental material. "If the answer is no, then buy just the textbook online," Manns says.
• New Editions: "This problem has been around a long time," Manns says. Publishers release new versions of books every few years, even though little changes. Usually, buying an older edition gives you the information you need. Older editions often cost less than $25.
• eTextbooks: eTextbooks are usually more expensive than buying a book used or renting it, and they typically expire after six months or a year.
The workaround: Shop around. Most eTextbooks are available from multiple sellers. If you have the option, go old-school and buy the hard cover or paperback, which will typically be much cheaper. "That way you can keep it if you want, or you can sell it later," he says.
• Timing: Sometimes students don't learn what textbooks they need until a couple of weeks before classes start, giving them little time to shop around.

The workaround: Don't worry too much about getting your books before classes start. If you don't mind a little inconvenience, then wait until you're a couple of days into the school year before buying. "The professor might even tell you that you don't need the book," Manns says. If it's required, you can shop online and still have the book within a couple of days.

#2.  I vote Democrat  because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days  to suit fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.

… And, the #1 reason I vote Democrat is  because I think it's better to pay $billions$ for oil to people who hate us, but  not drill our own because it might upset some endangered beetle, gopher, or fish  here in America. We don't care about the beetles, gophers, or fish in those other countries.

Earnest can't say why WH won't be lit in blue to honor cops

President Obama's top spokesman wouldn't say why the Obama administration is rejecting requests to illuminate the White House in blue to honor police officers gunned down in Dallas and now Baton Rouge, La.

"I don't suspect that that is something that we will do," press secretary Josh Earnest answered on Monday when asked if the administration will acquiesce to calls from police departments and others to do so.

But when asked why not, Earnest had no ready answer, except to highlight all the other steps the White House has taken to support police.

"Obviously the president did travel to Dallas" for last week's memorial service for that city's five slain police officers there, Earnest said.
