Pelosi rips up Trump's State of the Union address manuscript

Posted: 09 Feb 2020 04:01 AM PST

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ripped up her copy of President Trump's State of the Union address after he finished delivering it to a joint session of Congress.

As the president concluded his nearly 90-minute speech, the California Democrat tore up the pages of Trump's speech Tuesday evening.

Pelosi explained her decision to rip the speech up, saying, "It was a courteous thing to do," and later called it a "dirty speech."

Earlier in the evening, after Trump made his way up to the podium, the president appeared to ignore Pelosi's offer of a handshake, leading her to smirk and shrug.

Romney will vote to convict Trump, denying president a unanimous GOP acquittal

Posted: 09 Feb 2020 04:00 AM PST

Mitt Romney will vote to convict President Trump in his Senate impeachment trial, the Utah Republican and frequent critic of Trump announced Wednesday, ending the chance of a unanimous GOP acquittal.

Romney made public his decision two hours before the Senate will vote on two articles charging Trump with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The senator will only vote to convict on the first article, saying he will vote to acquit the president of the obstruction charge.

Romney said he believes the president violated the power of his office by asking a foreign government, Ukraine, to investigate a political rival, former Vice President Joe Biden.

Schiff Warns Donald Trump Could Give Alaska to the Russians If Not Impeached

Posted: 09 Feb 2020 04:00 AM PST

House Impeachment Manager and House Oversight Chairman Adam Schiff warned Monday that President Donald Trump might give Alaska to the Russians if he is not impeached.

Schiff disagreed with the president's lawyers, who argued that Trump's actions were not criminal and should thus not be considered impeachable.

He warned that they were setting a precedent that would only encourage Trump to pursue "unacceptable" actions if exonerated.

"Trump could offer Alaska to the Russians in exchange for support in the next election," he said. "Or decide to move to Mar-a-Lago personally and let Jared Kushner run the country, delegating to him the decision whether to go to war."

Talk radio king Rush Limbaugh stunned his 20-million member audience Monday with the announcement he's been diagnosed with "advanced lung cancer."

The 69-year-old conservative talk pioneer closed his broadcast with the grim news, saying he will be leaving his golden EIB microphone for treatment, but hopes to return later this week.

"This day has been one of the most difficult days in recent memory, for me, because I've known this moment was coming," Limbaugh said. "I'm sure that you all know by now that I really don't like talking about myself and I don't like making things about me... one thing that I know, that has happened over the 31-plus years of this program is that there has been an incredible bond that had developed between all of you and me."

'Never say never': Hillary Clinton holds out possibility of becoming Vice President if the Democrats win in November as she urges voters to follow Mitt Romney's example and kick Trump out of office

Posted: 09 Feb 2020 04:00 AM PST

Hillary Clinton has refused to rule out taking on the job of Vice President if the Democrats win the election in November.

The former Secretary of State, who has run two failed campaigns to become president herself, said she 'probably won't be asked' to take the role by whoever becomes the Democrat nominee this time around.

But, speaking to Ellen DeGeneres on an episode of her show due to air Thursday, she added 'never say never' - recalling how she turned down Obama's offer of leading the State Department twice, before accepting and serving for four years.

Wind Turbine Blades Can’t Be Recycled, So They’re Piling Up In Landfills

Posted: 09 Feb 2020 04:00 AM PST

Companies are searching for ways to deal with the tens of thousands of blades that have reached the end of their lives.

A wind turbine's blades can be longer than a Boeing 747 wing, so at the end of their lifespan they can't just be hauled away. First, you need to saw through the lissome fiberglass using a diamond-encrusted industrial saw to create three pieces small enough to be strapped to a tractor-trailer.

The municipal landfill in Casper, Wyoming, is the final resting place of 870 blades whose days making renewable energy have come to end. The severed fragments look like bleached whale bones nestled against one another.

"That's the end of it for this winter," said waste technician Michael Bratvold, watching a bulldozer bury them forever in sand. "We'll get the rest when the weather breaks this spring."

Tens of thousands of aging blades are coming down from steel towers around the world and most have nowhere to go but landfills. In the U.S. alone, about 8,000 will be removed in each of the next four years. Europe, which has been dealing with the problem longer, has about 3,800 coming down annually through at least 2022, according to BloombergNEF. It's going to get worse: Most were built more than a decade ago, when installations were less than a fifth of what they are now.

"Do you think it was wrong for [Hunter] to take that position knowing that it was really because that company wanted access to you?" Guthrie asked.

"Well that's not true. You're saying things you do not know what you're talking about," Biden responded.

Biden claimed his son got asked to be a board member of Burisma because he was a bright guy, not because his last name was Biden.

'We will never let socialism destroy American healthcare': Trump swipes at Democrats in State of the Union

Posted: 09 Feb 2020 04:00 AM PST

President Trump attacked Democratic healthcare proposals in direct terms in his third State of the Union address, denouncing them as socialist.

"We will never let socialism destroy American healthcare," Trump said in his address Tuesday night.

Trump is running against Democrats who propose "Medicare for all" plans, including Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, which would enroll everyone in the United States in a government healthcare plan. Trump, vulnerable on the issue of healthcare otherwise, has sought to cast himself as the defender of the status quo against such overhauls.

Gingrich: Censure Nancy Pelosi for Tearing Up Trump’s SOTU Speech

Posted: 09 Feb 2020 04:00 AM PST

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) called on current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to be censured for ripping up a copy of President Donald Trump's State of the Union address on Tuesday evening.

"As Speaker of the House for four State of the Unions by a President of the other party I am disgusted and insulted by the viciously partisan action of Nancy Pelosi tearing up the speech," Gingrich wrote. "She isn't clever or cute her childishness insults our American traditions -should be censured."

Pelosi made the spectacle of tearing up the speech at the conclusion of the president's remarks as he received applause from lawmakers. In addition to tearing up his speech, the speaker snubbed the president by introducing him into the House chamber as the "The President of the United States." It is customary for the speaker to welcome the president with the language: "I have the high privilege and distinct honor of presenting to you the President of the United States." Following the slight, the president appeared to snub an attempt by the speaker to shake his hand.

WATCH: Omar Trashes the U.S. for Not Living Up to Her 'American Dream'

Posted: 09 Feb 2020 04:01 AM PST

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is in Iowa doing last-minute campaigning on behalf of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT). During an event in Clive Iowa, Omar explained how her idea of the "American Dream" were shattered once she came to America.

"When I first came to the United States, I remember one of the first things that I saw was homeless people sleeping on the sides of Manhattan when we arrived in New York. And I remember turning to my father and saying, 'This doesn't look like the America you promised.' And my father looked at me and said, 'Hush, child, we are going to get to our America,'" Omar recounted. "Because the America we were shown in the orientation tapes when we were coming here from the refugee camp in Kenya had beautiful homes with white picket fences, happy families eating a full meal in their beautiful living rooms. It had happy children getting on the bus to go to their beautiful schools. It had pictures of amazing malls, megamalls, and had pictures of beautifully built bridges and highways. It was a picture of abundance. Now that is the ideal."

"That is the America we all know we deserve but our reality is full of homeless people. Our reality is full of families who have moms and dads who are going without dinner or lunch or breakfast just so that they can have enough for their children," she explained. "Our reality is full of kids who are showing up to schools that are full of mold and leaking rooftops. Our reality has children who are facing drills every single day to learn about how they can escape being shot in our schools."

Creepy Joe Biden Kisses 19-Year-Old Granddaughter on the Lips at Campaign Event

Posted: 09 Feb 2020 04:00 AM PST

As if his previously documented behavior with women and young girls wasn't creepy enough, during a campaign rally in Iowa on Sunday, former Vice President Joe Biden invited his 19-year-old granddaughter, Finnegan Biden, the daughter of Hunter Biden, to speak with him on stage, and the two grossed a lot of people out on social by kissing each other... on the lips.

"I would like to introduce you to my granddaughter Finnegan Biden. The reason I asked Finnegan — grandfathers are always allowed to embarrass their granddaughters — that goes along with the territory," Biden said.

Quite frankly, I think he embarrassed them both.

Biden has brought Finnegan on stage with him before, and had shared similar creepy and awkward moments

Ex-NAACP president set to represent Baltimore district Trump called 'very dangerous & filthy place'

Posted: 09 Feb 2020 04:00 AM PST

Former Maryland Democratic Rep. Kweisi Mfume is set to return to Congress after 24 years, representing a Baltimore district President Trump derided as a "disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess."

Mfume on Tuesday won the Democratic nomination in the 7th District, held for more than two decades by the late Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings, a frequent Trump political foil. Winning the primary is tantamount to victory in the heavily Democratic district, which takes in a bit over half the city of Baltimore, plus most of suburban Howard County. The general election is on April 28.

Mfume, 71, a former NAACP president, captured a strong plurality of the vote in a field of two dozen Democratic hopefuls. He easily beat Cummings's widow, Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, former head of the state Democratic Party, and state Sen. Jill P. Carter, among others.

There's stiff resistance to the Judicial Transparency Act. The bill would require a state commission to publicize what sentences judges hand out in criminal cases.

Iowa Democratic caucus results are plunged into crisis as party says it has found 'INCONSISTENCIES' and will have to use paper ballots in panicked statement saying it has NOT been hacked - and candidates leave without knowing who won

Posted: 09 Feb 2020 04:00 AM PST

The Iowa Democratic caucus results were plunged into crisis Monday night as a new app failed, party organizers warned they had found 'inconsistencies,' and issued a panicked public statement to say they had not been hacked.

Caucusing around the state started at 7pm Central Standard Time. Three hours later, not a single precinct's results were officially in.

'We found inconsistencies in the reporting of three sets of results. In addition to the tech systems being used to tabulate results, we are also using photos of results and a paper trail to validate that all results match and ensure that we have confidence and accuracy in the numbers we report,' Iowa Democratic Party Communications Director Mandy McClure said in a statement. 'This is simply a reporting issue, the app did not go down and this is not a hack or an intrusion.'

The underlying data and paper trail is sound and will simply take time to further report the results,' McClure added. Earlier, other Iowa officials had pointed a finger at the app.

The Extremely Sexual (And Political) Halftime Show...That Jeb! Loved

Posted: 09 Feb 2020 04:00 AM PST

If it was a mix of hypersexual entertainment with a bonus political statement you were looking for in Super Bowl LIV's halftime show, then 2020's big game didn't disappoint. The Left and Jeb! loved it. But there were plenty of viewers who were less impressed with what has increasingly become a spectacle that is not safe for the whole family.

Between J-Lo and Shakira, there was crotch rubbing, pole dancing, and double butt shaking—not to mention in outfits that can hardly be called clothing.

And of course that was just the sexually-charged part of the show. As for the political aspect, the singers pushed immigration to the forefront. Aside from J-Lo singing "Born in the U.S.A." while draped in a Puerto Rican flag, Lopez's daughter, Emme Maribel Muñiz and other children were shown in cages singing J-Lo's "Let's Get Loud" intermixed with Bruce Springsteen's classic song.
