'Bernie, I'm your biggest supporter, and I'm here to ask you to stop pumping up the dairy industry and to stop pumping up animal agriculture,' she said.

Study: Coronavirus May Have Started in Government Lab

Posted: 17 Feb 2020 07:30 PM PST

The coronavirus may have 'accidentally' originated in a government laboratory a mere 300 yards from the Wuhan fish market where the authorities say the outbreak started, the Daily Mail has reported.

The report cites a South China University of Technology paper written by two Chinese scholars, which claims that the Wuhan Center for Disease Control (WHCDC) could have been the place where it started. This is because the center had animals with diseases in laboratories, including more than 600 bats, which are linked to coronavirus.

As further proof, the scholars said that one of the WHCDC researchers quarantined himself after the blood of a bat got on his skin and another bat urinated on him.

The same researcher also said he discovered a live tick from a bat, which could explain how the infection was passed through the animal's blood.

Federal judge tosses Christian professor's transgender pronoun lawsuit

Posted: 17 Feb 2020 06:30 PM PST

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — A judge dismissed a professor's lawsuit against a small, public university in Ohio that rebuked him for not addressing a transgender student using the student's preferred gender terms.

Nicholas Meriwether's federal lawsuit alleged that Shawnee State University officials violated his rights by compelling him to speak in a way that contradicts his Christian beliefs.

Schools officials contended that such language was part of his job responsibilities, not speech protected by the First Amendment, and that the case should be dismissed. U.S. District Judge Susan Dlott dismissed it last week, agreeing that the manner in which Meriwether addressed the student wasn't protected under the First Amendment.

"I Was Knocking On Hell's Door": 21-Year-Old Student Recounts 'Nightmare' Of Contracting Virus In Wuhan

Posted: 17 Feb 2020 06:00 PM PST

In the race of western media outlets struggling to produce a first-hand account of someone who was infected with the virus in Wuhan, Bloomberg has been declared the winner.

One of the company's reporters published a stunning piece from the perspective of an unnamed 21-year-old Chinese student living in Wuhan. Addressed only as "Tiger Ye" (for fear that being identified would lead to government scrutiny), the young man shared the story of his journey from when he first noticed he had symptoms and tried to seek help at a local hospital, from his frustrations with Wuhan's seriously overburdened health-care system and feeling like he was "knocking on hell's door."

Ye credits his survival with the fact that his father is a health-care worker, and that he was able to get some medication early on before hospitals were totally overwhelmed.

"I was scared," he said. "Countless cases were piling up on the desks, and every single doctor was wearing protective clothes, something I'd never seen before."

A New York Times reporter criticized President Donald Trump for using his presidential limo, known as "The Beast," during his visit to the Daytona International Speedway on Sunday.

Reporter Maggie Haberman said, "Using the official apparatus of government for what appears to be a political event."

In response, Haberman was rebuked for her characterization of Trump's activities on Sunday.

Indeed, Trump was not in Daytona for a political event; rather, he was on hand as a VIP guest to give the iconic command of "Gentleman, start your engines" and to lead the field of 40 drivers during the pace laps before the race got under way.

China Has ‘Global Chokehold’ on Medicine, Can Shut Down Our Pharmacies, Hospitals in Months

Posted: 17 Feb 2020 05:00 PM PST

China could effectively shut down America's healthcare system within months given the one-party state's "global chokehold" on the manufacturing of medicines and medical supplies, explained Rosemary Gibson, author of China Rx: Exposing the Risks of America's Dependence on China for Medicine.

Gibson, senior adviser at the Hastings Center, offered her remarks on Thursday's edition of SiriusXM's Breitbart News Tonight with host Rebecca Mansour.

Mansour noted how the coronavirus outbreak in China has exposed America's dangerous dependence on Chinese production of pharmaceutical and medical supplies, including an estimated 97 percent of all antibiotics and 80 percent of the active pharmaceutical ingredients needed for domestic drug production.

Gibson said, "If China shuts the door on exports of medicines and the ingredients to make them, within a couple of months our pharmacies would be empty. Our healthcare system would cease to function. That's how dependent we are."

America has lost much of its manufacturing apparatus for medicines to China via globalization, explained Gibson.

Governor Hogan Announces Maryland’s First Education Inspector General

Posted: 17 Feb 2020 04:30 PM PST

Richard P. Henry, Former Federal Law Enforcement Official, to Serve as Schools Watchdog; Administration Continues to Press For Accountability Measures to Ensure Better Results for Maryland's Students

ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today announced the appointment of Richard P. Henry as Maryland's first Inspector General for Education. Mr. Henry, who has over 30 years of law enforcement experience at the federal level, currently serves as executive director of the Maryland State Department of Education's Office of Compliance and Monitoring.

"For five years, our administration has been working hard to root out corruption, wrongdoing, and the mismanagement of state tax dollars by local school systems," said Governor Hogan. "With the appointment of the first Inspector General for Education in state history, we are reaffirming our commitment to providing more accountability for parents, teachers, and taxpayers and better results for our children. Richard Henry has the experience and the passion to serve as a tough but fair watchdog in this new role."

Governor Hogan pushed for and enacted the establishment of the Maryland Office of Inspector General for Education to provide accountability and transparency in the expenditure of public education funds in the state. The Inspector General is jointly appointed to a five-year term by the governor, the attorney general, and the state treasurer.

To further bring much-needed accountability to our school systems, Governor Hogan has introduced the Community and Local Accountability for Struggling Schools Act of 2020 (CLASS Act), HB 347/SB 275. Based on a model developed by Governor Deval Patrick of Massachusetts, the CLASS Act will empower local communities to take charge of failing schools and enact critical changes in leadership and curriculum.

"We are proud to have some of the best and most highly funded schools in America, and we have continuously increased funding and worked hard to make them even better," continued the governor. "But unfortunately, far too many of our deserving children continue to be stuck in persistently failing schools. Much tougher accountability measures are still desperately needed."

About Richard P. Henry: In his current post, Henry, who holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Johns Hopkins University, leads a statewide program to ensure local school systems comply with state regulations. From 1992-2018, Henry served in several capacities for the United States Marshals Service, including chief inspector for the Information Technology Division, chief inspector for the Human Resources Division, senior inspector for the Judicial Security Division, senior inspector for the Financial Fraud/Asset Forfeiture Division, and supervisory deputy for Prisoner and Investigative Operations. He is a recipient of the Bronze Star for Bravery presented by the Howard County Police Department, the Organized Crimes Drug Enforcement Task Force Director's Award for Investigative Excellence, and the United States Attorney's Pete Twardowicz Award for Investigative Excellence. Henry's appointment is effective March 4, 2020.

Angel Granddaughter: My Grandmother’s Murder ‘Could Have Been Avoided’ If Not for Sanctuary Law

Posted: 17 Feb 2020 03:00 PM PST

The granddaughter of 92-year-old Maria Fuertes, who was allegedly brutally raped and murdered on a Queens, New York, sidewalk by an illegal alien, says the "horrific crime" was entirely avoidable if not for New York's sanctuary state law.

Reeaz Khan, a 21-year-old illegal alien from Guyana, was arrested this month and charged with sexually assaulting and murdering Fuertes by strangling her to death on a sidewalk in Richmond Hill, Queens.

As Breitbart News exclusively reported, Khan first arrived in New York City on a B-2 tourist visa in May 2016 but never departed, overstaying his visa for three years. That violation of federal immigration law makes Khan an illegal alien.

During a press conference with U.S. Border Patrol on Friday, President Trump welcomed Daria Ortiz, a mother of five-year-old and the granddaughter of Fuertes. Ortiz said her grandmother's alleged murder "could have been avoided" if not for New York's sanctuary state law that freed Khan weeks before:

Presidential hopeful Mike Bloomberg once told an employee struggling to find childcare to go find 'some black who doesn't have to speak English', claims new lawsuit

Posted: 17 Feb 2020 02:30 PM PST

Billionaire Democratic presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg once told a female employee struggling to find childcare to hire 'some black,' according to a 1998 lawsuit.

'It's a f***ing baby! All it does is eat and s**t! It doesn't know the difference between you and anyone else! All you need is some black who doesn't have to speak English to rescue it from a burning building,' Bloomberg said in July 1993 to a female salesperson who'd just had a baby, according to the lawsuit.

The woman responded by crying at her boss's harsh words, according to the lawsuit, which is the subject of a new report by the Washington Post.

The incident is one of many descriptions of sexist and demeaning remarks compiled in a lawsuit filed against Bloomberg and his financial information company in 1998 by Sekiko Sakai Garrison.

National Black News Channel makes debut

Posted: 17 Feb 2020 02:00 PM PST

Former U.S. Rep. J.C. Watts was beaming like a proud parent as he talked about the launch of Black News Channel — a project he's worked on for years to create what's now the nation's only 24-hour news network aimed at African Americans.

He was sitting at the network's Tallahassee studio with Gary Wordlaw, head of news and programming, watching a countdown clock as the network prepared to go live.

"I was sitting there leaning forward looking at the screen, and Gary goes, 'OK, in about two minutes we're going to see if this baby comes out.' And sure enough it did," Watts said in an interview at the studio. "We birthed a child on Feb. 10 at 6 a.m. Eastern Standard Time -- a healthy child -- and now we have to nurture it on to adulthood."

The goal of the network is to reach black audiences with stories that give a broader perspective about their community than what other networks provide. That could include health issues unique to African Americans, discussions about historically black colleges and universities, how federal housing policy proposal could affect them or just simply making people aware of positive accomplishments African-Americans are achieving, Watt said.

"We are more than athletes and entertainers, and on the hard news side, we're more than crime," said Watts, who was a star quarterback at the University of Oklahoma in the 1980s and later played in the Canadian Football League.

"For every 17-year-old African American male that you show me that's being carted off in handcuffs on the 10 o'clock news ... I can show you 50 17-year-old African American males that get up every morning trying to figure out, 'How am I going to make my mother proud of me.' That's the story doesn't get told enough."

Pa. Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Violent Attack on Girlfriend in O.C.

Posted: 17 Feb 2020 01:00 PM PST

SNOW HILL- A Pennsylvania man who pleaded guilty in December to first-degree assault following a violent attack on his girlfriend in downtown Ocean City last August was sentenced late last week to 20 years in prison.

In December, Nacqueese Humphrey, 27, of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., pleaded guilty to first-degree assault for his role in the incident last August that resulted in a fractured skull and shattered jaw for the female victim and a pre-sentence investigation was ordered. Last Friday, following a dramatic sentencing hearing, Worcester County Circuit Court Judge Beau Oglesby sentenced Humphrey to 25 years in prison with five years suspended, resulting in 20 years of active incarceration.

The agreed-upon guidelines called for a sentence of six to 12 years, but because of the violent nature of the attack and because Humphrey has a history of violent crime in his native Pennsylvania, the judge sentenced him to the maximum. Humphrey will be required to serve at least half of the 20-year sentence, and Oglesby vowed to keep a close eye on any pending parole reviews. In addition, the judge ordered strict supervised probation following Humphrey's eventual release because of his violent tendencies.
According to details that emerged during last Friday's sentencing hearing, Humphrey and the female victim, who were in a relationship, arrived in Ocean City around 9 p.m. last August 24. The victim went to the Boardwalk to get something to eat while Humphrey parked the vehicle and checked into the hotel.

'Deporting three million was a big mistake': Joe Biden admits for the first time that he regrets expulsions under Obama administration

'We took far too long to get it right,' Biden, 77, said in a wide-ranging, sometimes contentious interview with Univision anchor Jorge Ramos on Friday.

The former vice president later added: 'I think it was a big mistake. Took too long to get it right.'

In written statements included as part of Biden´s proposed immigration overhaul, the campaign already had acknowledged 'pain' surrounding deportations that occurred when he served as President Barack Obama´s vice president. But the candidate himself had not so clearly stated his personal regrets.

Government Officials Seize Veteran’s Guns in Mistaken Identification In Red Flag Law Execution

Posted: 17 Feb 2020 12:00 PM PST

Since the crazed Constitutional rights prohibitionists can't get the federal government to pass any of their absurd gun control laws, they have turned to a state-by-state effort to methodically do away with the 2nd Amendment.

One of the many laws they are pushing are so-called "red flag" laws where someone can petition the courts to have someone's guns taken away without any due process by claiming the person is a danger to themselves or others. And the person being served with the court order doesn't even know it until the cops are at the door. Then the person has to spend their own money and time to fight it, and has to prove their innocence before the court in order to get their rights back.

The crazed prohibitionists try to claim there is due process and that these laws will save lives, while they mock anyone who dares to bring up dystopian scenarios where people are wrongly accused. Except what happens when the wrongly accused are actually served with these orders in real life?

U.S. Leads World in Decreasing CO2 Emissions

Posted: 17 Feb 2020 10:00 AM PST

When President Donald Trump withdrew the U.S. from the dubious Paris Agreement in June 2017, climate activists, world leaders, and the Democrat Media Complex immediately protested, declaring that the Trump administration was signaling its intention to increase CO2 emissions. Fast-forward to Tuesday's report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) evaluating CO2 emissions around the globe. Lo and behold, the U.S. led the world in 2019 for "the largest decline in energy-related CO2 emissions." The IEA's report further noted that "US emissions are now down almost 1 Gt [gross tonnage] from their peak in the year 2000, the largest absolute decline by any country over that period." As Sen. Ted Cruz observed, that's a "fact you will never see on the 6 o'clock news."

In fact, far from the dire predictions since Trump's withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, the U.S. has not only continued its trend of decreasing CO2 emissions but increased the rate of the decrease. The primary cause for this precipitous decline is not due to more government regulation; rather it has everything to do with the government getting out of the way of innovation brought on by capitalistic enterprise. "Coal-fired power plants faced even stronger competition from natural gas-fired generation, with benchmark gas prices an average of 45% lower than 2018 levels," the report notes. This move to more natural-gas-fired power plants is thanks in large measure to increased fracking lowering the cost of natural gas — "as a result, gas increased its share in electricity generation to a record high of 37%."

Andrew McCarthy: Why wasn't Andrew McCabe charged?

Posted: 17 Feb 2020 09:15 AM PST

The Justice Department announced Friday that it is closing its investigation of Andrew McCabe, the FBI's former deputy director, over his false statements to investigators probing an unauthorized leak that McCabe had orchestrated. McCabe was fired in March 2018, shortly after a blistering Justice Department inspector general (IG) report concluded that he repeatedly and blatantly lied — or, as the Bureau lexicon puts it, "lacked candor" — when questioned, including under oath.

Why not indict McCabe on felony false-statements charges? That is the question being pressed by incensed Trump supporters. After all, the constitutional guarantee of equal justice under the law is supposed to mean that McCabe gets the same quality of justice afforded to the sad sacks pursued with unseemly zeal by McCabe's FBI and Robert Mueller's prosecutors.

George Papadopoulos was convicted of making a trivial false statement about the date of a meeting. Roger Stone was convicted of obstruction long after the special counsel knew there was no Trump–Russia conspiracy, even though his meanderings did not impede the investigation in any meaningful way. And in the case of Michael Flynn's false-statements conviction, as McCabe himself acknowledged to the House Intelligence Committee, even the agents who interviewed him did not believe he intentionally misled them.

I emphasize Flynn's intent because purported lack of intent is McCabe's principal defense, too. Even McCabe himself, to say nothing of his lawyers and his apologists in the anti-Trump network of bureaucrats-turned-pundits, cannot deny that he made false statements to FBI agents and the IG.

JUST IN: Virginia assault weapon ban fails after moderate Democrats break with party to reject it

Posted: 17 Feb 2020 09:00 AM PST

Virginia's effort to ban the sale of assault weapons was rejected by state lawmakers, including four Democrats who joined Republicans in voting down the measure.

Senators voted 10-5 in a committee on Monday to shelf the bill, which aimed to prohibit the sale of certain semiautomatic firearms and the possession of magazines that hold more than 12 rounds for a year so that the state crime commission can study the issue. Four moderate Democrats broke party lines to join Republicans in voting against the legislation.

The rejection comes as a loss to Gov. Ralph Northam, who had championed the bill and has made reducing gun violence in the state a top priority. As part of a broad package of gun control measures, Senate Democrats passed three gun control bills that would restrict monthly gun purchases, expand background checks on firearms, and allow localities to ban guns in designated areas in January.

'Let's just slow down a bit': AOC tells voters to embrace New York's controversial bail reforms

New York's bail reforms, which were implemented this year, prevent judges from imposing bail for people who commit minor crimes or nonviolent offenses. The law has been blamed for allowing offenders to reoffend, including one who allegedly slapped Orthodox Jewish women.

NYC subway thief thanks Democrats after his 139th arrest, release: 'Bail reform, it’s lit!'

A New York City man who's now been arrested 139 times thanked Democrats for guaranteeing his immediate release despite repeatedly swiping hundreds of dollars from unsuspecting subway commuters since the state's new bail reform law went into effect Jan. 1.

Charles Barry, 56, has been arrested six times since the start of this year. He's been released each time without having to post bail under New York's new bail reform law since his alleged offenses were nonviolent, the New York Daily News reported. In the past, Barry's served several stints in state prison and has a lengthy record, including six felonies, 87 misdemeanors and 21 missed court hearings, the newspaper reported, citing court records.

"Bail reform, it's lit!" Barry yelled to reporters Thursday outside the NYPD Transit District 1 headquarters in the Columbus Circle station before officers transported him to Manhattan Central Booking. "It's the Democrats! Al Sharpton's failed 2004 presidential campaign still nearly $1M in debt

Posted: 17 Feb 2020 06:00 AM PST

Rev. Al Sharpton's former campaign still owes over $900,000 more than 15 years after his failed 2004 presidential run.

"I have asked Andrew Rivera, the finance chair of my 2004 campaign, to set up a meeting with the Federal Election Commission so that I can resolve any campaign debts related to Sharpton 2004," Sharpton told the New York Post over the weekend. "I am willing to work out a settlement for all claims with my own money to the degree that I'm allowed and will raise money directly."

He added, "Even if I am not legally liable for it, I am certainly morally responsible."

Sharpton is not personally on the hook for the money 15 years later. Instead, it's his campaign committee and specifically his campaign treasurer, Andrew Rivera, who are responsible.

Michael Bloomberg Is Paying A Climate Prosecutor $125,000 To Work ‘Pro Bono’ For Maryland’s AG

Posted: 17 Feb 2020 04:00 AM PST

A climate prosecutor employed by Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh on a "pro bono" basis is taking a $125,000 salary from a group backed by billionaire Michael Bloomberg, according to the nonprofit law firm Government Accountability & Oversight (GAO).

The State Energy and Environmental Impact Center is a New York University (NYU) School of Law program that places professional lawyers with years of experience into the offices of blue state attorneys general. The center is funded by Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York City and a climate change activist.

Bloomberg's NYU charity project completely covers the salary of its fellows and, in return, the attorneys work out of the state AG offices to push climate litigation that Bloomberg is interested in.

Frosh applied Maryland for the center's fellowship program and set the salary of the "Pro Bono [sic] Special Counsel" prosecutor hired through the State Energy and Environmental Impact Center. Frosh classifying the attorney as pro bono is "problematic" and may put the AG's office in legal trouble of its own, according to GAO.

Under Maryland law, "'pro bono,' of course, means that not only does the client not need to pay, but also the attorney represents the client without compensation," Maryland's state court of appeals said in the 2015 ruling in State vs. Westray, pointed out by GAO.
