Aspiring Chicago rapper who hired hitman to kill his mother so that he could use her money to customize the Mustang she bought for him is sentenced to 99 years in prison

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 09:00 PM PST

An aspiring rapper in Chicago was sentenced to 99 years in prison after he and a hitman he hired to gun down his mother were found guilty of murdering the woman.

Qaw'mane Wilson, who raps under the name 'Young QC', was sentenced by Judge Stanley Sacks, in Cooks County, on Friday.

Sacks also gave the hitman, Eugene Spencer, a similar punishment, 100 years in prison for the slaying of Wilson's mother, Yolanda Holmes, in 2012.

'The word is 'matricide', meaning murder of one's own mother,' the judge said as he stared down from the bench at Wilson and Spencer, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Censored: Second Amendment adventure in Virginia more than a hundred thousand

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 08:00 PM PST

Time has no power over the spirit and will of man

The wolf shall dwell with the lamb,
and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together;
and a little child shall lead them.- Isaiah 11:6

The speaker, a sheriff from one of the many counties which rejected Virginia governor Ralph Northam's attempt to undermine the constitution, couldn't be heard outside the East German style fence erected by Virginia's double digit IQ'ed State Police and their Richmond counterparts.

The latter; physically as motley a collection of real life mutts as any make believe cast from Hollywood's Police Academy, looked scared to death as patrols of armed militia men, obviously better drilled in street warfare and crowd control than they are, patrolled the perimeter of the hundred thousand plus crowd. Communication between militia units was carried on as per "Phil's" recommendation; with two way radios. When moving through the crowd they held on to each other's backpacks to prevent separation which would weaken the units' combat effectiveness.

Evening News Spin: 100% Negative on Trump Defense, 95% Positive Dems

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 07:30 PM PST

Before the Senate impeachment trial of President Donald J. Trump was gaveled into session, Chief Justice John Roberts presided over a swearing-in ceremony where all 100 senators pledged to be impartial jurors. The liberal media zeroed in on that pledge and decried Senate Republicans who seemed to be siding with the President.

But a Media Research Center study of broadcast evening news coverage of the opening arguments of both sides, found ABC, CBS, and NBC did not live up to the standard they demanded of Republicans. They gave Democrats double the airtime and showered their arguments with mostly praise, while expressing only criticism of the President's legal team.

Between Wednesday, January 22, when Democratic House impeachment managers launched their opening arguments, and Tuesday, January 28, when the President's defense team rested, evening newscast reporters and anchors made a total of 34 evaluative statements about the merits and effectiveness of both sides.

Rush Limbaugh announces he has 'advanced lung cancer'

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 07:00 PM PST

Talk radio king Rush Limbaugh stunned his 20-million member audience Monday with the announcement he's been diagnosed with "advanced lung cancer."

The 69-year-old conservative talk pioneer closed his broadcast with the grim news, saying he will be leaving his golden EIB microphone for treatment, but hopes to return later this week.

"This day has been one of the most difficult days in recent memory, for me, because I've known this moment was coming," Limbaugh said. "I'm sure that you all know by now that I really don't like talking about myself and I don't like making things about me... one thing that I know, that has happened over the 31-plus years of this program is that there has been an incredible bond that had developed between all of you and me."

Chinese Coronavirus Test Took Four Attempts to Positively Identify One Carrier

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 06:30 PM PST

A 55-year-old Chinese man living near Beijing was diagnosed with the Wuhan coronavirus on Thursday, almost two weeks after he was hospitalized with a fever. Three previous tests had indicated he did not carry the Wuhan virus, but the fourth test confirmed he did.

The South China Morning Post (SCMP) on Monday quoted China's health commission stating that up to three tests are often needed to confirm the presence of the Wuhan virus in patients. A dismaying number of Chinese travelers have been arriving at airports around the world with Wuhan infections that are caught during airport screening for the infection.

The Wuhan virus is particularly insidious because infected people can be contagious for up to two weeks without displaying any outward symptoms. Wired reported on Saturday that epidemiologists are worried about "super-spreaders," people who carry the Wuhan virus and can infect others while going for exceptionally long periods without experiencing any sign of illness.

Rahm Emanuel: Democrats Must Build ‘Metropolitan Majority’ to Rule for ‘Years’

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 06:00 PM PST

Former Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel published an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal on Saturday in which he declared that Democrats should use the 2020 election to establish "a new Democratic 'metropolitan majority' that could last for years."

The only problem, he said, was that the party was moving too far to the left. "Democrats May Be Blowing Their Chance," the article is titled.

Emanuel wrote:
The next nine months will present our raucous coalition a rare opportunity to establish a new Democratic "metropolitan majority" that could last for years. We can't afford to let internecine disagreements about how to reach our common goals get in the way.

In recent months both Presidents Clinton and Obama have come under withering criticism—not from conservatives but from Democrats arguing they were insufficiently progressive while in office. Set aside the unforced error of attacking fellow Democrats at a moment when retiring Donald Trump ought to be our singular goal. The underlying critique fundamentally misunderstands how we should judge any given leader's stewardship of our agenda.

The Extremely Sexual (And Political) Halftime Show...That Jeb! Loved

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 05:00 PM PST

If it was a mix of hypersexual entertainment with a bonus political statement you were looking for in Super Bowl LIV's halftime show, then 2020's big game didn't disappoint. The Left and Jeb! loved it. But there were plenty of viewers who were less impressed with what has increasingly become a spectacle that is not safe for the whole family.

Between J-Lo and Shakira, there was crotch rubbing, pole dancing, and double butt shaking—not to mention in outfits that can hardly be called clothing.

And of course that was just the sexually-charged part of the show. As for the political aspect, the singers pushed immigration to the forefront. Aside from J-Lo singing "Born in the U.S.A." while draped in a Puerto Rican flag, Lopez's daughter, Emme Maribel Muñiz and other children were shown in cages singing J-Lo's "Let's Get Loud" intermixed with Bruce Springsteen's classic song.

Health Officials Quarantine Portland To Prevent Spread Of Communism

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 04:30 PM PST

PORTLAND, OR—The CDC has announced a full quarantine of Portland to prevent the spread of a dangerous virus known as communism.

While communism has been around for a while, experts believe the 2020-Antifa strain could develop into the worst communism pandemic in decades.

"We are enforcing a ban on all travel in and out of Portland until a cure is found," said one CDC official. "We simply can't risk deadly viruses like communism spreading out into the world. Millions will die."

Although there is no known cure for communism, there are preventative measures that experts recommend, such as reading history books. Signs that someone you love may have communism already include wearing ski masks, sporting Che Guevara shirts, and not showering regularly.

California Sued After Concealing $320 Billion In Annual State Payments

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 03:30 PM PST

Just a few of the serious financial problems facing California include unfunded public employee pension promises, a potential state credit downgrade, an unprecedented homeless crisis, and a net out-migration of 912,000 residents since 2010.

One easy step California can take is to join every other state in the union and open up its state checkbook for review. Allowing citizens, journalists, watchdogs, academics, and public policy experts to review state spending would help the state get its fiscal house in order.

Unfortunately, last fall, California State Controller Betty Yee (pictured) rejected our sunshine request for the state checkbook. Oddly, the rejection didn't argue the law, but instead claimed that the controller couldn't locate a single one of the 49 million bills she paid last year.

This admission provides a troubling clue to California taxpayers who are wondering how and where their money is being spent. The answer is the people spending it literally don't know. Or they at least say that don't.

Trial for prison guards who were on duty the night Jeffrey Epstein killed himself is postponed for two months

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 03:00 PM PST

A judge on Thursday postponed for two months the trial for two jail guards charged with failing to make required checks on Jeffrey Epstein in the hours before his death.

U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres moved the date from April to June 22 after defense lawyers said they needed more time to prepare for trial. The lawyers had sought a six-month delay.

Guards Tova Noel, 31, and Michael Thomas, 41, have pleaded not guilty to lying on prison records to make it seem they had checked on the disgraced financier before his August 10 death at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan.

Franklin Graham: ‘Pepsi Showing Young Girls that Sexual Exploitation of Women Is Okay’

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 02:30 PM PST

Christian evangelist Rev. Franklin Graham expressed disappointment with the lack of "moral decency" displayed at the Super Bowl LIV halftime show and the message it purportedly sent to children, writing Pepsi showed "young girls that sexual exploitation of women is okay" and urging society to raise its standards.

The Super Bowl LIV entertainment featured pop megastars Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, both of whom busted out in a series of crotch-grabbing, hip-thrusting moves throughout the performance.

The highly anticipated show also featured J-Lo swinging from a stripper pole..

"I don't expect the world to act like the church, but our country has had a sense of moral decency on prime time television in order to protect children," Graham said, lambasting the show for sending the message "that sexual exploitation of women is okay."

"We see that disappearing before our eyes. It was demonstrated tonight in the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show—with millions of children watching. This exhibition was Pepsi showing young girls that sexual exploitation of women is okay," he continued.

"With the exploitation of women on the rise worldwide, instead of lowering the standard, we as a society should be raising it. I'm disappointed in Pepsi and the NFL," he added.

Several users adamantly agreed with Graham's assessment.

"Me too, it was like a porn production," one wrote.

China says US hasn't given any significant help in coronavirus outbreak, created panic

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 02:00 PM PST

China's Foreign Ministry said on Monday that the U.S. has failed to give China any substantive help in its fight against the coronavirus outbreak and instead contributed to the international panic surrounding the illness, a report said.

China said it is unreasonable that the U.S. is preventing people from entering its borders, according to Reuters. The virus thus far is blamed in 361 deaths and 17,205 infections, mainly in the area around Wuhan, China, the virus' epicenter. The foreign ministry added that some countries, like the U.S., overreacted to the outbreak and Beijing hopes nations around the world begin to make reasonable, calm and science-based judgments, the report said.

"All it has done could only create and spread fear, which is a bad example," foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said, according to the news agency. He said countries like the U.S. have "strong epidemic prevention capabilities and facilities," but instead of following World Health Organization guidelines, the U.S. concentrated on travel restrictions.

Trump expands travel ban to six new countries

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 01:30 PM PST

President Trump signed an order Friday expanding his travel ban to six new countries, targeting nations the government says pose a threat because they don't issue electronic passports or don't do enough to share information with American authorities to vet their citizens looking to travel.

The six countries are Burma, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Nigeria, Sudan and Tanzania. They join seven countries who are still part of the president's previous travel ban: Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen.

"It is fundamental to national security, and the height of common sense, that if a foreign nation wishes to receive the benefits of immigration and travel to the United States, it must satisfy basic security conditions outlined by America's law-enforcement and intelligence professionals," said White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham.

The new countries aren't subject to a total ban.

Band of herpes-ridden monkeys are roaming residential neighborhoods in northeast Florida after just 12 were introduced in the 1930s but reproduced at alarming rates

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 01:00 PM PST

A band of herpes-ridden monkeys are roaming across northeastern Florida after escaping from a state park miles away, threatening the locals and the environment.

The rhesus macaques were living at the Silver Springs State Park near Ocala, Florida, but the creatures, native to south and southeast Asia, escaped the area and have since been spotted in Jacksonville, St. Johns, St. Augustine, Palatka, Welaka, and Elkton, Florida, according to First Coast News.

While the monkeys tend to keep to themselves, over a quarter of the 300 feral creatures counted at Silver Spring State Park carried Herpes B, according to a 2018 survey by National Geographic.

While it's extremely rare for herpes B to spread from monkey to human, when it does it can be fatal.

Powerful Drug Combo Offers Potential Osteoarthritis Relief

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 12:30 PM PST

Two may be better than one, at least when it comes to fighting arthritis. Recent research at the Salk Gene Expression Laboratory has found that a combination of two osteoarthritis drugs is better than either one alone. In fact, researchers say the medicinal cocktail actually reversed signs of the condition in rats.

Osteoarthritis, known as "wear and tear" arthritis, causes joint stiffness and pain. Over time, the cartilage that cushions bones breaks down and there is overgrowth on the underlying bones. So far, pain relievers and joint replacement surgery are about the only remedies offered for the 30 million U.S. adults who have this disease.

But that may change with the powerful one-two punch drug combo currently being studied for potential use in humans.

Scientists considered two drugs that singly offered some degree of success in treating osteoarthritis in animal studies. The first drug, known as αKLOTHO, keeps the mesh of molecules surrounding articular cartilage cells strong and healthy. The other, TGFβR2, stimulates growth in the cartilage cells themselves.

They wondered what might happen if the two were combined. Scientists conducted experiments on rats and isolated human cartilage cells in a laboratory setting, and found that the two drugs together reverse cellular and molecular symptoms of osteoarthritis.

"What's really exciting is that this is potentially a therapy that can be translated to the clinic quite easily," says Juan Carlos Izpisua Belmonte, lead author and a professor at the Salk laboratory, in a news release.

WATCH: Omar Trashes the U.S. for Not Living Up to Her 'American Dream'

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 10:00 AM PST

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is in Iowa doing last-minute campaigning on behalf of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT). During an event in Clive Iowa, Omar explained how her idea of the "American Dream" were shattered once she came to America.

"When I first came to the United States, I remember one of the first things that I saw was homeless people sleeping on the sides of Manhattan when we arrived in New York. And I remember turning to my father and saying, 'This doesn't look like the America you promised.' And my father looked at me and said, 'Hush, child, we are going to get to our America,'" Omar recounted. "Because the America we were shown in the orientation tapes when we were coming here from the refugee camp in Kenya had beautiful homes with white picket fences, happy families eating a full meal in their beautiful living rooms. It had happy children getting on the bus to go to their beautiful schools. It had pictures of amazing malls, megamalls, and had pictures of beautifully built bridges and highways. It was a picture of abundance. Now that is the ideal."

"That is the America we all know we deserve but our reality is full of homeless people. Our reality is full of families who have moms and dads who are going without dinner or lunch or breakfast just so that they can have enough for their children," she explained. "Our reality is full of kids who are showing up to schools that are full of mold and leaking rooftops. Our reality has children who are facing drills every single day to learn about how they can escape being shot in our schools."

"I accept the finality of the outcome," Gore said in a televised address. "And tonight, for the sake of our unity as a people and the strength of our democracy, I offer my concession."

Rep. Mike Gallagher Files Bill Giving Immigration Judges Contempt Authority.

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 09:30 AM PST

Ronald Reagan once quipped, "They say the world has become too complex for simple answers. They are wrong." That's a lesson Rep. Mike Gallagher, R-Wis., proved on Jan. 29 with his simple, but much needed, bill to improve our overburdened immigration courts.

His bill, barely more than a page long, would fix a long-standing weakness of the immigration courts by giving immigration judges the power to hold lawyers and litigants in contempt if they disobey court orders or ignore deadlines.

This would give immigration judges a power that every other state and federal trial court judge in the country has. It also would address a big reason the immigration courts are crushed under enormous and seemingly irreducible caseloads.

Study Reveals the Absurd Conformity of Higher Education

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 09:15 AM PST

A recently released study confirms the suspicion that American higher education has become absurdly and ruthlessly monolithic in terms of political ideology.

The study found that the ratio of college professor donations to Democrats as opposed to Republicans was 95:1.

Besides federal agency employees, few other industries outside working for the Democratic National Committee or the media are so strongly skewed toward Democrats and the left.

The authors of the study, Heterodox Academy Research Director Sean Stevens and Brooklyn College Professor Mitchell Langbert, admit to some uncertainty on the numbers.

But even if the disparity in donations isn't quite so high, it's still clearly extreme and highly problematic, as the researchers explain.

"Researchers have raised concerns that ideological homogeneity may lead to questionable research practices," Stevens and Langbert wrote. "This concern is grounded in research on confirmation bias, group polarization, motivated reasoning, and the tendency for these phenomena to be even more pronounced among the highly educated. As well, partisan polarization has been leading to Republicans' increasing skepticism about higher education."

Beyond problematic research is the larger problem that, at all but a handful of Americans colleges, young Americans are being dropped straight into left-wing indoctrination centers.

Early missteps and state secrecy in China probably allowed the coronavirus to spread farther and faster

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 08:30 AM PST

It was almost the Lunar New Year and Pan Chuntao was feeling festive.

He knew there were reports of a virus in his city, Wuhan. But local officials urged calmness. There was no evidence it was transmitted person to person, they said. They had not reported a new case in days.

On Jan. 16, the 76-year-old left his two-bedroom apartment to attend a government-organized fair.

"We told him not to go because we saw some rumors on WeChat of doctors getting infected," said Pan's son-in-law, Zhang Siqiang. "But he insisted on going. He said, 'The government says it's not a problem, there are no cases anymore.' "

Pan and his daughter may now be among the the 14,300-plus people infected with a new strain of coronavirus — an outbreak that has killed at least 304 people in China, spread to more than 20 countries, disrupted the global economy and left 55 million people in China's Hubei province under an unprecedented lockdown.

Pan was one of millions of Chinese who mingled, traveled and carried on with daily life during the critical period from mid-December to mid-January.

Continetti: DNC Boosting Bloomberg to Be Backup Nominee

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 08:00 AM PST

Washington Free Beacon founding editor Matthew Continetti on Friday said that the Democratic National Committee (DNC) is opening the door for Michael Bloomberg if other establishment candidates fail to defeat Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) in early primary states.

On Friday, the DNC eased requirements to qualify for future debates, despite a crowded primary field. Continetti said the gambit shows that the party is looking to the billionaire as Plan B if former vice president Joe Biden continues to struggle.

"If Bernie wins Iowa, he's already very well positioned in New Hampshire. That will set the Democrat party on fire," Continetti said during Fox News's Special Report. "And that's why I think you've had this rule change to allow Mike Bloomberg into the debates. This is their insurance policy if the Biden campaign collapses."

This was the Super Bowl moment Andy Reid deserved

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 06:45 AM PST

MIAMI — It's unfair. Always has been, not that anyone particularly cared.

The outside perception of Andy Reid always felt unfair despite the fact that he's been a better head coach than his reputation would lead you to believe.

Not anymore, though.

Not after Reid's Chiefs captured Super Bowl 2020 with a stirring 31-20 comeback win over the 49ers at Hard Rock Stadium before a decidedly pro-Kansas City crowd of 62,417.

Reid is a Super Bowl champion now and no one — not even the cynical detractors in Philadelphia — ever can take that away from him.

Dylann Roof appeals conviction, death sentence in Charleston massacre

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 06:30 AM PST

Dylann Roof on Tuesday appealed his federal convictions and death sentence in the 2015 massacre of nine black church members in South Carolina, arguing that he was mentally ill when he represented himself at his capital trial.

In a 321-page legal brief filed with the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Roof's lawyers asked the court to review 20 issues, including errors they said were made by the judge and prosecutors that "tainted" his sentencing.

One of their main arguments is that U.S. District Judge Richard Gergel should not have allowed Roof to represent himself during the penalty phase of his trial because he was a 22-year-old ninth-grade dropout "who believed his sentence didn't matter because white nationalists would free him from prison after an impending race war."

White House told Bolton to scrub classified info from book before publishing

The White House National Security Council told former National Security Adviser John R. Bolton that he couldn't publish his book manuscript, now sought by Democrats to bolster their case in President Trump's impeachment trial, unless he deleted top-secret material.

NSC senior director for records Ellen Knight told Mr. Bolton's lawyer, Charles Cooper, in a letter obtained by The Washington Times that the book manuscript "appears to contain significant amounts of classified information."

"It also appears that some of this classified information is at the TOP SECRET level," she wrote on Jan. 23.

Maryland lawmakers override several bills Hogan vetoed last year

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 05:00 AM PST

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Maryland lawmakers overrode Gov. Larry Hogan's vetoes five times on Thursday, but had to give up on three other bills, including a bill one designed to make freight rail safer.

A major economic development project played a role in that bill's doom.

The concurrent votes in the two chambers of the Maryland General Assembly were the first time this session Democrats have exercised their veto-proof majorities after postponing these votes several times this session.

The votes passed generally along party lines.

Democrats were successful in overriding vetoes on five bills, including a "ban the box" measure that will make it illegal for employers to ask about an applicant's criminal history before the first interview, and a "Dream Act," which eases restrictions on when an undocumented immigrant can pay in-state tuition at state colleges and universities.

In the late summer of 2018, just a few months into John Bolton's national security adviser tenure, he strongly defended President Trump's decision to revoke the security clearance of former CIA Director John Brennan, the pugnacious anti-Trump critic the president has called a "leaker," "a liar" and ringleader of the debunked Russian collusion investigation.

At the time, Bolton accused Brennan of "politicizing intelligence," both during the Obama administration and afterward, which he deemed a "very dangerous thing to do."

"If there is any kind of misconduct, I think there are lots of grounds to have your security clearance revoked for behavior that calls into question your ability to hold the material in confidence," Bolton told ABC News' Martha Raddatz. "…For me, the issue is whether he abused information that he attained while he was director of the CIA or he may have attained erroneously or incorrectly after he left."

Nearly a year and a half later, the shoe is on the other foot..
