It's About to Get Real...

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 06:00 AM PDT

By Thornton Crowe

Last week, we discussed the GOP implementing a Jim Crow tactic by disenfranchising voters from Colorado and Wyoming without one vote being cast yet pledging delegates to Cruz. Well, as the week began on Tuesday with a huge win for Donald Trump in his home state, New York, the tide has changed considerably.

As many of you know, RNC Chair Reince Priebus, at a meeting in Florida, called out the #NeverTrump group and chastised them as well as called out the Trump campaign to stop with the heated rhetoric. The Rules committee for the Convention has now decided they will not be changing or altering any rules. What's interesting about this turn is that they were within their purvey to make changes as they do before most major election conventions; however, due to the strong backlash, it seems they have had a change [sic] of heart.

Interestingly enough among all the high brow talk and rhetoric, the Gateway Pundit published a story Friday about a watchdog group in Florida have now filed a lawsuit against the GOP and Priebus for allowing Cruz delegate 'stealing' over the last couple of weeks. As I predicted months ago, voters would get to the point where they were so disenfranchised and angry by the establishment seeking to tell them who they should support, lawsuits would surely be filed over the nefarious activities.

Some examples, delegates getting favors, travel, pretty much anything they want short of money from candidates who seek their support. Cruz has been playing that game footloose and fancy free. Cruz's supporters are happily reveling but, like I said last week, when you revel in one person's loss of a right, you are, in essence, accepting your own forfeiture of same right.

We shall see what happens as we go to the polls this Tuesday where Trump holds a healthy lead against his contenders along with the other states voting, which are as follows: Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Delaware. Everyone expects the Trump Camp will have another very good Tuesday.

Many speculate this will be a nail-biting fight all the way down to the California wire on June 7th. Paul Manafort, Trump's Convention Manager, versed in political delegates since the 1976 when Reagan ran a bid against incumbent, Gerald Ford, stated that while they need some in California, he's confident they will have the 1237 delegates. He plainly states to Sean Hannity last week during the post-election wrap-up, "There will be no second ballot."

Manafort on Sean Hannity on Colorado

Do you think given the fact that John Kasich and Ted Cruz are mathematically out quit now or continue on? Do you think this will cause the GOP to step back and take stock after the General Election?

Teachers union calls on school to cancel Donald Trump rally; protests planned

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

The union that represents most teachers in Maryland called on the Worcester County school system to block Donald Trump's campaign from using a high school gym to hold a rally Wednesday evening.

"Donald Trump and his divisive, fear-mongering rhetoric have no place in the halls of Maryland's public schools," Maryland State Education Association president Betty Weller said in a statement. "Trump's eagerness to bully minorities would be unacceptable if it came from any of our students."

Liberal group Progressive Maryland issued the same call and launched an online petition that had been signed more than 500 times by Tuesday afternoon.

Trump's rally is being held at Stephen Decatur high school in Berlin at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz have already held events in Maryland, as the protracted battle for the Republican nomination continues.

SU reacts to racial Blackwell drawing

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

Two days after the end of the eighth annual "Stop Hatin'" week at Salisbury University, on April 10, a racially charged drawing was found on a whiteboard in Blackwell Library.

Although SU's administration has not come forward with new information, a faculty member told The Flyer two students were a part of the drawing.

"I can confirm two students have been identified," English Associate Professor James King said, "and are both African American."

King declined to give more information.

The SU Police Department is currently investigating the incident as a hate crime. However, they have not named any suspects. This could prove difficult, though, as there are no cameras in the study room in which the whiteboard was located.

"I don't understand why the staff at this Dunkin Donuts would find it appropriate to take bets on whether my wife was "fat or skinny" after she placed an order for myself, herself, and my two children. My wife could clearly hear their comments since her windows were down in the car. The two employees were described as a young man with light hair, and a young girl with brown hair working at the 1200 Nanticoke Rd. Salisbury, Md 21801 on Sunday April 17, 2016 at 5:15pm. I am appalled at the lack of discretion and civility your staff extrudes. I plan on contacting a local media source to show Salisbury, Md which Dunkin Donuts employs people lacking common sense. JUST IN: Harriet Tubman to replace Andrew Jackson on $20 bill

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

Harriet Tubman will replace Andrew Jackson on the $20, sources tell CNN.

The announcement is expected to come later Wednesday from Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, who will also reveal that a montage of leaders from the women's suffrage movement will be added to the back of the $10. A Treasury official confirmed to CNN that Tubman's portrait will appear on the $20.

The redesigned $10 bill is expected to enter circulation by 2020, though it's unclear what the $20's time frame is.

The women pictured on the back of the $10 will be the first to appear on U.S. paper currency in more than 100 years.

DONALD TRUMP COMES TO THE GREATEST LITTLE TOWN IN AMERICA, BERLIN, MARYLAND

First I want to thank all of the people who welcomed me while waiting so patiently in what seemed like a forever long line.

So let's hear what you thought of the event. I'm still in awe.

WOW, Change Of Plans For Trump Event In Berlin

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

I announced earlier that the event would be held outdoors. I was wrong. It is hard to believe that as of last night there were over 18,000 tickets given out for this event. One Police Officer told me they had heard up to 30,000 tickets are out there. It's hard to know who to believe at this time but what I can now tell you is, this event is going to be NUTS!

I still believe Mr. Trump will not arrive until closer to 8:00 PM. However, with the number of tickets out there, plan on getting there early because they do plan on holding it indoors. I have a feeling a LOT of people are not going to be happy.

They should have reserved the Convention Center in Ocean City.

BREAKING: Kenyan Government Releases Obama’s Real Birth Certificate

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

Obama's birth question rose yet again! But, this time, it has documents as a proof! New reports that surfaced, contain 11 documents from the Office of the Principal Register of the Nyanza Provice in Kenya. They are concerning Obama's birth and early childhood in the country!

These documents have been requested by the United States for years, but the Kenyan Supreme Court finally ordered the authorities to release the documents based on a law on "access to information."

What's 'shocking' here, is that Obama was born ONE year BEFORE his father moved to Hawaii and met his mother. The documents also confirm the biggest question of them all! Obama was born in Lamu, Kenya. Now how did the administration have those documents they've been showing us over the past few years? Where did they come from?

A Viewer Writes: Verizon Union Issues

Of all the comments posted, none of them press for facts. Nor do all the letters and statements (like the one posted here) from the union state facts. What is the profit margin of the company? Worded another way, what is the amount of money (percentage) after the company pulls in its profit, then pays all the expenses (utilities, rent, mortgages on buildings, equipment, supplies, salaries, benefits, unemployment tax, employers portion of FICA, on and on....)?

As far as salary increases, 6.5% is something. As far as a "step backwards," welcome to life. Welcome to politics and shooting yourself in the foot by the union supporting liberal policies. Sad that now the first thing on a persons mind when looking for a job is the medical coverage. Used to be what the whole salary was and if you could make your house and car payments. House and car are now secondary. BTW, there are no specifics on salaries. Someone answer this question. I DARE YOU. Say I have 10 years with the company, and I am a phone line installer, set up person, field engineer type. Also troubleshoot and repair the lines on the poles and going into buildings. Jack of all trades with a bucket truck. What would said person make per hour? Let us as blog readers decide what to think knowing that information. (Military and Government posts their pay scales for all the world to see, why not the employees the unions are supporting do as well?)

Ultimately, if you don't like your pay. Leave.

Job security, no such thing anymore. Welcome to life. 50 miles before compensation? Right, personal car you get mileage pay. Company vehicle, no wear and tear on your own car. Be aware typical travel time in many companies is only while you would normally be on the clock. You work 7-4. But the time for you to fly or drive somewhere on business is from 7 to 7. You don't get paid those 3 other hours, only mileage during those 3 hours unless you are flying commercial.

Pensions. Few and far between now days. Take what you can get offered. Join the military, be a reservist and get a pension starting at 60. Be aggressive with your 401K and your investments. Buy some rental properties. Be a scrooge. Don't buy a third car, boat, jet sky, pool, cruises, long vacations. Save up your money.

Call sharing. I want the contractor to get to my house faster to fix the line ripped down in the storm. The call center that is loosing the positions, you should demand that you handle the calls and push to exceed the time frame it takes for a contractor to be notified so he can get here faster. If the local call centers are slow, get rid of them.

Healthcare. "increases in healthcare contributions while diminishing plan coverage." Welcome to ObamaCare. Welcome to today. Your union and others pressed for it, now you got it. Personal story. I worked for a company with BCBS. Year change from 2012 to 2013, premiums when up 49%. Changed to Coventry. Again, year change from 2013 to 2014 premiums went up %15. Deductibles where $5000 up front and then pay 20% after that up to limit of $7500. Then insurance paid 100%. I left and now work as a contractor and I take care of my own medical through Tricare. Benefit of my part time military service. Our CEO offered $10000 a year to each of us if we were to get our own medical. Think of the savings he would have and the savings of having to hire a person who's only job was dealing with medical issues of the rest of the employees?

Retiree Medical. Again, see the above paragraph. Such is life. Get a part time gig at Home Depot, make a hobby a money maker. Work if you can work. The days of being 65 with your feet up chillin' on the back deck are gone.

Forced overtime assignments. I guess the union doesn't know anyone in the healthcare industry and being on call, you never know when you will be called in and for how long, sometimes into the next work day as you work overnight. You might be awake for 24+ hours. But don't count on overtime to pay the bills. Think of the military. Deployments in another weird assed country for months at a time, taking risks. When they get back, you know what they can do? Suck it up or get out.

Why haven't you worked your way up to get into higher management and reap the rewards of doing so? Kinda like a private eventually becoming a 4 star general. Your envy of the fat cats isn't going to produce sympathy in me.

Remember, you do not have the right to a job. You can't make demands standing on your bosses desk, he has to power to tell you "Get out."

What's the process to work as a scab? Many folks have a vast technical and mechanical background and can certainly do what needs to be done. Say they sign on to work for Verizon for say....$?? an hour as a full contractor? They pay their unemployment taxes, their medical, take the risk of injury. What would you people out there in SBYNEWS land realistically ask for in an hourly salary as a contractor/scab? I am sure it would be less than what the company is paying for an employee now.

As far as the union employees, has there been any thought that any increases in your benefits makes the customers bills climb? No concern about that? Employees, you have it pretty good. Shut up."

A Viewer Writes To Mark McIver: Subject: Republicans against Trump

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

Mark,

When I visited the opening of Trump HQ, I was later told that Ms. Wellfonger (sp?) was there. From her actions, she is a staunch Democrat. Now we have Julie Brewery pounding against Trump. I really don't get it, (well, yes I do)

I have avoided approaching the Central Committee for membership just because of these two, but I guess my real question is, do you and the rest agree with these people and back them up somehow? I heard now that there was a shared table space at 3rd Friday with the democrats club. True?

Are R's and D's the same party now here and lobbying against Trump? Is it now R&D against Trump? With Cruz being the biggest RINO in the race, I can see the chances of that.

I mean, that's what I'm seeing nationwide, and am wondering if your Committee is doing the same in light of your present membership? Colorado and Wyoming seem to be happy to ignore the voting process, and with the current "fear" being displayed by the RNC over Trump's popularity, I wonder why the RNC ever accepted him as a bona fide candidate in the first place, and why they have now decided to become the Choice of the Peoples worst enemy.

I would truly like to get involved in our local and national election process as a Conservative person, but am quite put off with what I would have to work with here. Would me joining advance any of your agenda, or would I be better off to just start my own Trump Support Organization that would not think twice about going Independent with Donald if he was finally voted out by the dead RNC?

Pictures Speak Volumes

A Viewer Writes: Jim Ireton Washington Gay Paper

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

Joe - Look at the link. This is a DC gay paper article Ireton is putting around on the web.  It's about gay and transgender people running in MD for Congress. The paper does a side by side picture with the other transsexual person running.  The pictures are side by side and it made me laugh because it looks like how Ireton would look as a transsexual.  Haha.  Take a look. It's like which one is Ireton? or is it Ireton in drag?  What in the world does a transsexual have with him? or running for Congress? He just is embarrassing. I have gay friends and family members. I really don't care but with all the issues on the Shore with jobs, farms, etc what in the world does Ireton sleeping with men have to do with us? with our needs?  I won't vote for him because I think he is crazy especially what he did to that Salisbury employee (woman) that he attacked.
Two LGBT Democrats who are running for Congress will be on the ballot in next week's Maryland primary.

Kristin Beck, a transgender former U.S. Navy SEAL, is running against House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) in the state's 5th Congressional District that includes Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's Counties and portions of Anne Arundel and Prince George's Counties.

Beck writes on her website that southern Maryland "must decide whether we keep heading down the path we are on or do we make some kind of change for the better." The former U.S. Navy SEAL accused Hoyer of "concentrating so much" on bailing out banks and other "huge issues" when she spoke with the Washington Blade last year after declaring her candidacy.

"It seems like the district has been forgotten," said Beck.

A report that Beck's campaign filed with the Federal Election Commission on July 15, 2015, indicates she raised $6,125 in the second quarter of last year. The FEC notes that she did not submit reports for the third and fourth quarters of 2015.
Ireton: Equality is 'cornerstone' of American life

Gay former Salisbury Mayor Jim Ireton is challenging U.S. Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) in Maryland's 1st Congressional District that includes all of the Eastern Shore.

Ireton makes a broad reference to LGBT rights on his website.

"Equality is the cornerstone of the American way of life," he writes. "Everyone should be able to earn the same pay for the same work and have access the same to goods and services regardless of gender, race, creed, or who they love."

A report that Ireton's campaign filed with the FEC indicates he raised $31,576 from Jan. 1- March 31 of this year. He had slightly more than $10,000 in cash on hand at the end of the first quarter of 2016.

Source

Joe, I also came across this.  Speaking of women.  So he says Harris has a War on Women and here that he won't defend women's rights.  Where did Ireton become a champion of women? When? He has done so many things AGAINST WOMEN from what I read in your web articles.  This guy is amazing.  Like almost that he is some psycho or pathological liar. It reminds me of my grandson when I catch him sneaking a cookie and he shoves it in his pocket and puts his empty hands up and says what cookie? Ireton is like a child!

Congressman Harris: Harriet Tubman is a Role Model for all Americans

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) released the following statement applauding Treasury Secretary Lew's decision to honor Harriet Tubman on the twenty dollar bill:

"It's great to see Secretary Lew honor Maryland's Harriet Tubman by making her the first female to appear on United States currency. I applaud the recognition of Harriet Tubman's contribution to our nation's history and I am proud to have joined with Senator Cardin to designate a national park in her honor last year. Her relentless fight for equality and justice is a testament to her courage and resolve to improve the American way of life. Harriet Tubman is a role model for all Americans and someone who deserves to be honored."

Congressman Harris joined forces with Senator Ben Cardin in 2014 to honor Harriet Tubman in the designation of a national park on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park is located in Caroline, Dorchester, and Talbot Counties in Maryland. Harriet Tubman was born in Dorchester County, Md., where she spent nearly 30 years as a slave. She escaped slavery in 1849, but returned to the Eastern Shore several times over the course of 10 years to lead hundreds of African Americans to freedom in the North. Known as "Moses" by African-American and white abolitionists, she reportedly never lost a "passenger" on the Underground Railroad. The national historical park in Maryland will trace Tubman's early life on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, where she was born and later escaped from slavery to become one of the leaders on the Underground Railroad.

Hoyer Okay with Biological Men Using Women’s Restrooms

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

(CNSNews.com) – House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said on Tuesday that people "ought to be able to use the restroom of the gender they identify with."

CNSNews.com asked Hoyer at his weekly meeting with reporters at the U.S. Capitol: "There has been a great deal of controversy lately about North Carolina's bathroom law. Do you believe that biological males should be allowed to use the ladies' room in federal facilities and parks around the country?"

Hoyer did not directly answer the yes or no question, but instead stated his "position" on the issue.

"Look, I think the position we've taken is clear that people ought to be able to use the restroom of the gender they identify with. That's been our position," Hoyer said. "It's still our position."

Baltimore Cop Drags Teen Out of His Home Without a Warrant: “That (Warrant) Don’t Matter”

Baltimore police came under criticism on Monday after footage surfaced of a white officer pulling an 18-year-old black teen out of his doorway on Saturday while apparently disregarding the lack of a search warrant.

The officer repeatedly asks to speak to the homeowner, later identified as Jones' mother, India Epps. But Jones tells him that he lives there and that she is working. The argument continues until the unidentified white officer pulls up to the home and walks to the door without speaking to anyone.

"This is my house," Jones says. "That don't matter," the officer replies before grabbing him.

‘An Amazing Moment’ For Decatur Grad Who Now Works As Trump Campaign Staffer

I attribute my success to the people in our school system and our community who raised me. They say it takes a neighborhood or a community to raise a child, well this community raised me."

BERLIN — One of the most memorable moments of Donald Trump's visit to Stephen Decatur High School on Wednesday night had nothing to do with politics. It had to do with the GOP frontrunner giving a local man who works for his campaign a bow in front of his hometown crowd.

"Where the hell is Kevin?," exclaimed Trump in the middle of his 45-minute speech in the SDHS gym. "Get him out here."
As 1998 SDHS graduate and Trump Senior Advance staffer Kevin Chmielewski reluctantly walked on stage in front of about 2,000 screaming fans in the gymnasium at the beckoning call of his boss, it was simultaneously one of the greatest moments of his life, and a moment that will likely make him the brunt of many jokes with his cohorts.

The post was shared more than 650 times in seven hours.

Demian Hostetter said this is a way to quietly protest without drawing more attention to Trump.

"I was just trying to think about ways to protest him in town instead of going outside and contributing to the violence," Hostetter said. "Honestly, in the best-case scenario, there won't be anyone there to hear his hateful rhetoric. The more his words are echoed by anyone, the more powerful he becomes."

SALISBURY MAN GUILTY AND SENTENCED TO LIFE PLUS TEN YEARS FOR 1st DEGREE MURDER AND GUN CHARGES.

On February 18, 2016, Larry Ennis, age 20, of Salisbury, was convicted by a Wicomico County Jury of Murder 1st Degree, Conspiracy, Handgun Use in a Felony, and related offenses.  An investigation conducted by the Salisbury Police Department revealed that just after midnight on Aug 2, 2015, Ennis and two other codefendants were at a party at America's Best Value Inn.  At the party, Ennis and his friends got into a verbal altercation with another group of young adults and were asked to leave.  Upon leaving the party, Ennis called his friend, Jarrett Stokes, and the group met at IHOP.  The group, including Ennis, Stokes and two other individuals then headed back to America's Best Value Inn.  They parked across from the hotel and Ennis searched the crowd for the individual they had been fighting with earlier.  Stokes shot four rounds into a crowd of 75 to 100 individuals.  One of those rounds struck and killed a 17 year old boy who was standing in the crowd.

On April 21, 2016, Ennis was sentenced by a Circuit Court Judge to life in prison on Murder 1st Degree, plus ten years on Handgun Use in a Felony.

State's Attorney Matt Maciarello stated: "Our community has no tolerance for gun violence." He further stated, "Friends and family of 'Roc' will never get to spend another moment with him because of decisions made by a group of teens on August 2, 2015. Parents, educators, clergy, coaches and guardians, please talk to teens about violence, particularly gun violence, and about conflict resolution.  Teens should understand that if they encourage, aid and assist in the  killing of another, the State will hold them appropriately accountable."

Wicomico County State's Attorney, Matthew A. Maciarello, commended the Salisbury City Police Department, Det. J. Miller and Det. Ryan Brittingham, for their work in the investigation and prosecution of this case.  Mr. Maciarello also thanked Senior Assistant State's Attorney Kristen Schultz and Senior Assistant State's Attorney Karen Dean who prosecuted the case.

‘World’s Meanest Mom’ Is Selling Her Daughter’s ‘Dream’ Truck on Craigslist

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

Though it may not give this Minnesota mother any cool points, Amy Adams says she is selling her 15-year-old daughter's red Dodge truck on Craigslist to teach her a lesson.

In the Craigslist ad, which was posted Tuesday, Adams said she is selling the truck — what she calls "every teenage kid's dream vehicle" — because her daughter has "decided that her grades don't matter, that she can disrespect myself and her siblings on a daily basis, and that she has the right to skip school and run away from home."

Adams, who dubbed herself the "World's Meanest Mom" in the ad, told KARE-TV, "She was on her 'one more chance and the truck was getting sold,' and she blew that 'one more chance' on Monday when she decided to skip school."

Black activist guilty of tweeting anti-black 'threats'

Race-hoaxster faces 90 days, $82,000 restitution to cover cost of police response

It probably seemed like a good idea at the time.

With racial tensions already high on university campuses across the U.S., and 100 black activists from New Jersey's Kean University holding a protest rally against racial intolerance, the former leader of a black student group thought she could throw a little gas on the fire, stir up the crowd and do so anonymously.

It backfired, and Monday Kayla-Simone McKelvey, 25, pleaded guilty to creating a false alarm by tweeting anonymous death threats against fellow black students Nov. 17. She's now facing jail and a large restitution fine.

Target: Use the bathroom or dressing room of your 'gender identity'

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

Visit a Target and use whichever bathroom you'd like.

That's the message the retail giant appears to be sending with a new statement on its website that ostensibly takes aim at so-called "bathroom laws" seeking to restrict men's and women's bathrooms to the sex listed on a person's birth certificate.

"In our stores, we demonstrate our commitment to an inclusive experience in many ways," the statement said. "Most relevant for the conversations currently under way, we welcome transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity."

Target's policy is not new, but is simply a more pronounced "restatement" of an existing corporate rule, Target spokeswoman Molly Snyder told the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Harriet Tubman is the next face of the $20 bill; $5 and $10 bills will also change

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

On Wednesday, Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew said Tubman would replace Jackson on the front of the $20 bill, becoming the first woman in more than a century and first African American to grace the front of a paper note. Jackson will be featured on the back of the bill alongside an image of the White House.

In another twist, Alexander Hamilton got a reprieve. Initially targeted for replacement by a woman on the $10 bill, Hamilton's reputation was burnished by an unlikely smash Broadway play and his case pressed by outraged historians pointing to his seminal role in creating the nation's first central bank.

Treasury's announcement followed almost a year of heated public debate, shaped by social media and history alike.

Even former Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke weighed in, pressing Hamilton's case on his blog. Bernanke wrote Wednesday that Tubman was an "excellent and deserving choice" while Hamilton had a better claim than any to stay on a bill.

Lew said the final concept designs of new $20, $10 and $5 bills are scheduled to be completed and unveiled by 2020, the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote.

Marine Corps Plan Says Women Won’t Have To Do Any Pullups

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

The Marine Corps has proposed a new fitness plan for females that does not require them to do any pullups to meet physical standards.

While female Marines will strongly be incentivized to do those pullups to achieve a high score, they can opt for the "flexed-arm hang" instead. For example, females can't score higher than 50 points for a flexed-arm hang, but just one pullup will net them 51 points, Marine Corps Times reports.

"I think this is a great way to implement the change as it gives an incentive to increase a score without the fear of failing the PFT," Col. Robin Gallant told Marine Corps Times. "As women work on them to increase their score, they can be confident that they won't fail a PFT. I think this is a huge benefit and I'm glad it might become a reality."

A Viewer Writes: Response to a viewers post concerning verizon union issues

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

My name is Mike Leffew. If I'm going to express my beliefs or defend them then I'm not going to do it anonymously. I've worked as a Verizon tech for nearly 30 years. I've watched it go thru 3 corporate name changes & I've helped build it from the pre-internet days to the current wireless network that so many of you carry in your pocket or on your belt. And I have a different view than the one expressed by the originator of the April 19th post entitled "A Viewer Writes: Verizon Union Issues".

Your post seems to infer a negative view of me. You continuously state "welcome to life" & "such is life". I'm sure you feel you are expressing reality, albeit sarcastically, but I disagree. I believe what you're expressing is acquiescence to defeat. Phrased differently your statements could be expressed as "I can't do any better so I must accept it". Well I don't. I refuse to accept that. You may have resigned yourself to Obamacare being shoved down your throat & corporate greed extinguishing dreams you once held. You may now accept all of that as reality but I won't without a fight.

Yes I have a good job & I am aware of that. I have good benefits & a good retirement. Is that bad? Is it wrong? Is it immoral? When did my salary become the determining factor in the rightness or wrongness of this situation? Are you saying my CEO fairly deserves his but I do not? I was raised to believe hard work could bring good pay & good benefits. And that capitalism, when implemented fairly, presented the best opportunity. When, in your mind, did those ideas cease?

I'm thankful to have my job. I may be safe in assuming you (the former BCBS company employee) would like to have my job & benefits too. That's understandable, thousands of other Americans feel the same. You would probably even be willing to accept less for it. And that is where you and I differ. I am not willing to accept that a corporation driven by a mentality of greed has the right to take from me what I have worked for so that its top executives & major investors can maintain their status of living. That is not life. That is serfdom.

I'm not asking for more. I'm asking for fairness. If my company was in danger, if executive management was asking me to sacrifice along with them & investors to help save the company then I'm with them 100%. But that's not how it is. Verizon is an exceptionally profitable company, maybe one of the most profitable on the planet. And if I helped make those profits then I deserve to share in the success, as does everyone who contributed to it..from top to bottom. That is what the American middle class should be. But instead I watch as people accept the loss of good jobs, good benefits & secure retirements as the inevitable and then say "Such is life". Is it really?
Is that the reality of life? Has government & corporations become the ruling elite? That's oligarchical fatalism and I want no part of it.

As for your statement that the costs of benefits result in higher consumer costs... Do you honestly believe that if Verizon could reduce benefit costs to zero that they would in turn lower what they're charging you? Or would they more likely increase their executive compensation packages. And I'm curious, do you believe the costs you charge for your services have contributed to a higher price the consumer pays for your services?

As for the union to which I belong & unions in general, I hold a high degree of dislike & distaste for them. Their blatant political & liberal actions violate many of my moral beliefs. They themselves are in many ways just as bad & self-serving as the corporations they fight with. When this strike is over I'm resigning from the union. But I didn't walk out because I'm a "union man", I did so because I'm willing to fight & sacrifice for what I believe in & I have friends who are making the same sacrifices.

I still believe in the dream of the American middle class & I'm sacrificing my income and risking my health insurances, life insurances, pension and everything else to fight for that dream, so before you or anyone else toss out anymore disparaging remarks about me at least ask yourself if you're honestly willing to do the same.

Maybe you should take your own advice & use your mouth less.

Rapper’s Ankle Monitor Goes Off At The White House

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

Rick Ross's ankle monitor went off while he was at the White House this weekend.

The 40-year-old rapper — whose real name is William Leonard Roberts II — was in Washington, D.C. to support the administration's My Brother's Keeper initiative, which aims to keep young black people out of jail.

Barack Obama had just finished speaking when Ross's ankle monitor began beeping loudly, TMZ reported Monday. (RELATED: Obama Assures Hollywood: Donald Trump Will Not Be President)

Ross has worn an ankle monitor since he was released from jail after posting a $2 million bond in July 2015. He was arrested after he allegedly kidnapped and assaulted his groundskeeper.

Subject: Disney’s ‘Once Upon a Time’ Features Lesbian ‘True Love’s Kiss’

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

Disney's fairy-tale drama Once Upon a Time featured its first same-sex relationship during Sunday night's episode, when Ruby (Meghan Ory) travels to the Underworld to track down and save Dorothy (Teri Reeves) from the villainous Wicked Witch (Rebecca Mader).

The Hollywood Reporter has the episode recap:

Ruby and Dorothy end up bonding over shared family problems, and Ruby turns to Mulan for advice about her feelings. "I know we just met, but I have never felt like this about anyone before," she tells Mulan. "Don't make the same mistake that I did. Don't wait until it's too late to tell someone how you feel," Mulan replies, but by the time Ruby goes to do so, Dorothy is gone.

Ruby tracks down Zelena in the Underworld, finds out the Wicked Witch put Dorothy under a sleeping curse, and with a little advice from her good friend Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin), she clicks some magical slippers and goes to Oz to kiss her True Love awake. They get more than just one of True Love's kisses and presumably (hopefully?!) will live happily ever after.

Ocean City To Increase Inlet, Street Parking Rates For This Summer; Revenue Will Be Used To Fund Improvements

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

OCEAN CITY — It will cost more to park at the Inlet lot and along most streets and municipal lots in the downtown area this summer after the Mayor and Council on Friday agreed to across-the-board hikes to offset the increased costs of maintaining the facilities.

During a final budget wrap session last Friday, Public Works Director Hal Adkins presented a variety of issues related to the Inlet lot and on-street and municipal parking lots metered with the familiar CALE machines. In terms of the Inlet lot, Adkins said the parking lot booths are subject to flooding during storm events and water and salt have taken their toll on the electric conduits and equipment. Adkins said he is fairly confident his department can get through this summer with the compromised equipment but not so confident in future summers. As a result, the Inlet lot parking booths and configuration will have to go through another major restoration sometime in the near future.

A Viewer Writes: Stephen Decatur student protest plea

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

Dear students,

You have every right to protest, and if that is what you choose to do I hope it is peaceful.

May I suggest instead that this is your opportunity to see and hear a presidential candidate in orderly forum. This is history in the making for your generation, and a rare opportunity. In fact, it is a new experience for me; and I have voted for several presidents from each party. How can you protest something that you know nothing about?

You probably have never paid rent/mortgage, been responsible for a family...let alone an entire country. Nor have you had an opportunity to choose a president as you are not old enough.

Please do not disrupt this for the people who are going to vote and who want to hear what any candidate has to say.

272 Slaves Were Sold to Save Georgetown. What Does It Owe Their Descendants?

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

WASHINGTON — The human cargo was loaded on ships at a bustling wharf in the nation's capital, destined for the plantations of the Deep South. Some slaves pleaded for rosaries as they were rounded up, praying for deliverance.

But on this day, in the fall of 1838, no one was spared: not the 2-month-old baby and her mother, not the field hands, not the shoemaker and not Cornelius Hawkins, who was about 13 years old when he was forced onboard.

Their panic and desperation would be mostly forgotten for more than a century. But this was no ordinary slave sale. The enslaved African-Americans had belonged to the nation's most prominent Jesuit priests. And they were sold, along with scores of others, to help secure the future of the premier Catholic institution of higher learning at the time, known today asGeorgetown University.

Now, with racial protests roiling college campuses, an unusual collection of Georgetown professors, students, alumni and genealogists is trying to find out what happened to those 272 men, women and children. And they are confronting a particularly wrenching question: What, if anything, is owed to the descendants of slaves who were sold to help ensure the college's survival?

Jim Ireton Pickets With Verizon Employees

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

Liberal Jimmy just loves those UNIONS and will do ANYTHING to get in a pictures, nothing new there.

This is a man who has lived off the government dole his entire life. He's even received grant money to do work on his home in Salisbury. Here's the funny part. Jimmy is out picketing and campaigning DURING WORK HOURS.

That's right. He's supposed to be TEACHING but for some reason the Board of Education gives him all the free opportunities to go out and campaign. Why, because they too are a Liberal Union and they'll do ANYTHING to garnish additional support in local and state government to make sure they get all the free rides they can from Annapolis.

So you and I pay for these jerks but the only one I see left right now from the Shore is Jim Mathias. Let's keep the ball rolling and keep these Liberal Idiots from ever entering local and state FREE RIDES again. Remember, Bob Culver's new budget has no tax increase for the second year in a row. GO FIGURE!

Hey Liberals, You Can Steal Our Signs But We Will Find Other Ways

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

As signs go up around Salisbury and the Eastern Shore, TRUMP signs are being stolen like there's no tomorrow.

So, what are people starting to do, well, just look up. Another thing many people are doing is installing trail cameras to catch and charge the thieves.

Salisbury News will be more then happy to publish any and all thieves caught in the act.

RNC-DNC: Jim Crow Alive & Well Living in 2016

Posted: 24 Apr 2016 05:00 AM PDT

By Thornton Crowe

A few weeks back, I published a commentary discussing Jim Crow and Hillary Clinton's misuse of the term when speaking to her rallies about states wanting to implement Voter ID during elections. While obviously, she was using a sore spot in America's history to her own end by duplicitous means, her misuse can hardly take away the real Jim Crow being exercised by the Republican National Committee's state chapters such as Colorado, Indiana and Wyoming. This is designed to enforce the will of the establishment rather than the will of the people.

Last Saturday, 1.1 Million voters were completely cut out of the primary process through a rule created in August 2015 after Trump's popularity overcame the typical punchline and into a realm of reality. The RNC, headed by Reince Priebus, has long been ensconced in the DC elite class, pandering to donors and special interest groups, enjoyed a comfortable status quo nominee system that produced nauseating candidates like John McCain and Mitt Romney over the last eight years. Due to the fact that neither won their ultimate presidential bids in spite of Obama's untried governance and questionable background, bodes unfavorably as to how both were not even palpable to Republicans much less to Independents and crossover Democrats whom harbored proclivities for the man from nowhere.

With this election, business as usual has proved to expose the 'rules' and the myth of voters' rights. It has torn away any veneer of good will between the RNC and the voting public, thus, shredding a relationship. Let me ask, is it really a party when there are no voters to make a said party exist?

The reason I say Jim Crow exists now is the fact that when this horrible schema was in the South (and the North,) many black voters were disenfranchised through ridiculous poll taxes and 'tests' where many whom were illiterate had no chance of passing. Unlike the era where a guise was proffered, the blatant disenfranchisement and apathy as to the voters' will is more prevalent and explicit than even in the Jim Crow era.

While the RNC states these are the rules they have used since the 1800s, any lawyer worth his/her grain of salt knows about the Voting Rights Act of 1965, signed into law by Lyndon Johnson, giving ALL people the RIGHT to vote. This is a Federal Law - and from what I've always been told, Federal circumvents State laws - and it applies to RNC rules as well. With this, my hope is that the voters of the three states above will band together to legally challenge the egregious actions of the RNC because this goes well beyond Trump. It is now a matter of the People v. the Establishment of career politicians. It is a fight for the perseverance of our Democracy as this clearly exposes the Banana Republic underbelly of our fractured and heavily flawed election process where buying off delegates is king and the people's will is ignored? It certainly is. Unfortunately, we can no longer sit back and sell our collective soul to the highest bidder as we've done in the past. Our History is what's led us to this point in time.

While some are so excited because their candidate won, what does it say about Ted Cruz, who states he is a Constitutionalist and an outsider, whom now exploits the establishment system to secure a nomination that he now is not mathematically entitled to? And what does this say about his stance on voters' right to vote - which is the only voice a voter really have? Doesn't look good. Many Cruz people have jumped off his ship and moved over to Trump's Train as a result.

Some food for thought, Paul Manafort, new member of Trump's campaign explains what has been happening with the Cruz campaign in a very succinct way that all can understand quite clearly. While he does dodge Sean Hannity's question about math as those types of things are usually on a need-to-know, he does give us a look at the month to come. Take the time to hear him out. He cut his teeth back in the Carter/Reagan days, working on the 1980 election for Reagan. Whether you agree with Trump's candidacy or not, it brings up many interesting points.

On the Democrat side, all the Sanders voters are being disenfranchised by the Super Delegates, which are all in the tank for Clinton. In fact, the mainstream media has made it no secret she had these delegates long before Iowa. Hence, no matter how many states Bernie wins in a row, she still mathematically trumps his wins with her delegate count. She lost in New Hampshire yet came out with the same delegate number as Bernie who won by a resounding amount.

This is not a partisan thing. The BIG STEAL is real on both sides of the political party fence. We the People are being ignored or edged out of the process altogether. Both Right and Left voters have to take stock and realize this affects EVERY voter not just the ones on the wrong side of the curve.

What do YOU think about having your right to vote being circumvented by the dubious shenanigans of both the Democrat and Republican machines? We now have a system of taxation WITHOUT representation as in 1776. Our voices do not even count - swept away under some meme about rules while the donor class dictates how we live, spend our money, and work in our own country.

Word in tonight that Wyoming has now given all their delegates to Cruz without one voter actually voting. Is this the kind of country you want to live in?
Remember, when you celebrate the violation of one person's right, you are in fact, accepting the loss of your own right of the same.
