National Take-Back Initiative

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 09:00 PM PDT

On Saturday April 30, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. the DEA will coordinate a collaborative effort with state and local law enforcement agencies focused on removing potentially dangerous controlled substances from our nation's medicine cabinets. This one-day effort will bring national focus to the issue of pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse. The program also provides an opportunity for law enforcement, prevention, treatment, and the business community to collaborate and establish a safe collection site for all Americans, regardless of where they reside.

The locations for planned disposal monitored by the Delaware State Police will be at the following:

Delaware State Police Troop 4, 23652 Shortly Road, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Christiana Care, 4755 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713

Sheldon Silver gave preferential professional treatment to two women with whom he had extramarital affairs, feds say

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 07:00 PM PDT

NEW YORK - Former New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver abused his position as one of the most powerful men in state government by giving preferential professional treatment to two women with whom he had extramarital affairs, federal prosecutors said in court documents unsealed Friday.

The government said he used his position as speaker to help one woman who lobbied him on a regular basis and to get a state government job for the other.

U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni in Manhattan unsealed the papers Friday. The Democrat's lawyers and a lawyer for one of the women, who were not identified, had opposed the release.

A day earlier, Silver declined comment as he left a court hearing over the issue. On Friday, his lawyers — Steven Molo and Joel Cohen — released a statement calling the revelations "simply unproven and salacious allegations that have no place in this case or public discussion."

Muslim Brotherhood Day on Capitol Hill

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 06:30 PM PDT

On Monday, April 18, legislators' offices were visited by individuals associated with a group unknown to most lawmakers: The United States Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO). In the interest of helping members of the U.S. Congress understand precisely who their interlocutors are, permit a brief introduction: The USCMO is the latest in a long series of front organizations associated with, and working to advance, the agenda of the Muslim Brotherhood in the United States.

Members of Congress should be clear about the true nature of that agenda. It is laid out most authoritatively in a document introduced into evidence by federal prosecutors in the course of the largest terrorism financing trial in the nation's history, U.S. v. Holy Land Foundation et al. Written in 1991 by a top Muslim Brotherhood operative, Mohamed Akram, and entitled "The Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal of the Group in North America," this internal correspondence was meant for the eyes only of the organization's leadership in Egypt. So, the document is direct and to the point: It explicitly states that the mission of the Muslim Brotherhood in North America is "destroying Western civilization from within ... by [the infidels'] hands and the hands of the believers so that Allah's religion is made victorious over all other religions."

There are two other important facts legislators should know about Akram's memo.

Freedom From Religion Foundation: Part 1

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 06:00 PM PDT

Free thought and pride attract atheists, agnostics, and skeptics to the largest secular association in North America — the non-profit, educational Freedom from Religion Foundation. FFRF Co-President Dan Barker opines, "Much of the movement away from religion in America is being driven by Millennials, many of whom will be voting for the first time this year." Hence, Parker adds, "We need secular voters to be vocal about their beliefs, or lack thereof, while rejecting efforts to push religious dogma on the nation."

This, of course, is no small effort. The Foundation boasts 23,500 members, 20 chapters across America, not to mention secular student alliances. Nearly 8,000 secular voters are reaching out to educate the public about their beliefs. FFRF awards thousands of dollars in prizes for winning student essays; and they distribute "I'm Secular and I Vote" buttons, T-shirts, bumper stickers, and educational material.

What Exactly is Religion?

To be freed from something requires grasp of what is being discarded. So what exactly is the illusive concept of religion? Surprising to some, whether Judeo-Christian, Marxist-Leninist, secularist, or Islamic, all worldviews by nature are religious. Each defines an ultimate point of reference that dramatically influences every possible discipline from science to the arts, ethics to law, geo-politics to economics. All speak to an ideology, or movement, that offers some overarching approach to comprehend God (god), the world, and man's relationship to both.

"Freedom from religion" is better understood as switching religion from one brand to another.

Allow me to explain.

Subject: IRS Contempt for Rule of Law

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 05:30 PM PDT

In a complete mockery of Rule of Law, IRS Commissioner John Koskinen told the Senate Finance Committee last week that it's "in everybody's interest" to have illegal aliens use fraudulent Social Security numbers to file taxes. Come again?

Koskinen's outrageous assertion came in response to a question posed by Sen. Dan Coats (R-IN), who wondered why "the IRS continues to process tax returns with false W-2 information and issue refunds as if they were routine tax returns." Coats' staff also "learned the IRS ignores notifications from the Social Security Administration that a name does not match a Social Security number, and you use your own system to determine whether a number is valid."

Koskinen defended the procedure, beginning with the absurd assertion that it's not the IRS's job to ascertain such validity. "What happens in these situations is someone is using a Social Security number to get a job, but they're filing their tax return with their [taxpayer identification number]." Koskinen further explained the agency sometimes knows such individuals "are undocumented aliens," but they're nonetheless paying taxes, and it's in "everybody's interest to have them pay the taxes they owe."

Unbelievably, Koskinen kept digging. "The question is whether the Social Security numbers have been stolen. In many cases, they have been borrowed from friends or acquaintances with permission," Koskinen said. "It's not the normal identity-theft situation." He went on to insist the agency is attempting to determine the difference between "bad" misuse of personal data and other misuse of it "without necessarily having people decide not to file their taxes." He concluded, "Obviously, the priority is to have the IRS collecting those taxes."

Health-minded Americans Turn to Healing Prayer, Biblical ‘Laying On of Hands’: Study

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 05:00 PM PDT

A new study released Monday reveals that a vast majority of Americans turn to their faith during a health challenge. Nearly nine of 10 Americans have relied upon healing prayer at some point in their lives, praying for others even more than for themselves, according to a study by Baylor University epidemiologist Jeff Levin.

"The most surprising finding is that more than a quarter of all Americans have practiced laying on of hands — and nearly one in five has done so on multiple occasions," said Mr. Levin, who tracks the role of faith in health and cultural matters across society.

"Interestingly, most people who use prayer for healing do so alongside regular medical care, rather than as a substitution, as has been presumed up to now. Healing prayer is being used more as a complementary treatment rather than as an alternative one." noted the researcher.

"Outside of belief in God, there may be no more ubiquitous religious expression in the U.S. than use of healing prayer," he said, adding that the findings also suggest that prayer may be among them most widely used forms of treatment for medical problems, rather than a "fringe activity."

FCC Commissioner: We Had to Stay Quiet on 'Obamaphone' Fraud

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 04:30 PM PDT

The five members of the Federal Communications Commission were told to stay quiet about an investigation into whether a California cell phone company had defrauded the federal Lifeline, or "Obamaphone" program, out of millions of dollars until the federal agency could announce its plans to expand the program, one of the commissioners said Monday.

"I think it's an outrage, not just as a commissioner but as a citizen for this program to be administered the way it has been, overlooking the fraud and expanding it even further," Commissioner Ajit Pai, a Republican member of the group, told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program.

"I'm hoping that shining a light on their operations will encourage and the American people to take a closer look at this program," he continued. "There's a lot of fraud that's basically under wraps and that needs to come out into the open. This is only the tip of the iceberg, I expect."

Last week, the FCC released a Notice of Apparent Liability that accused cell phone provider Total Call Mobile, which provides the service in 19 states, of enrolling tens of thousands of duplicate accounts and collecting an estimated $9.7 million in subsidies from the Universal Service Fund since 2014, reports The Washington Free Beacon.

Teachers union calls on school to cancel Donald Trump rally; protests planned

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 04:00 PM PDT

The union that represents most teachers in Maryland called on the Worcester County school system to block Donald Trump's campaign from using a high school gym to hold a rally Wednesday evening.

"Donald Trump and his divisive, fear-mongering rhetoric have no place in the halls of Maryland's public schools," Maryland State Education Association president Betty Weller said in a statement. "Trump's eagerness to bully minorities would be unacceptable if it came from any of our students."

Liberal group Progressive Maryland issued the same call and launched an online petition that had been signed more than 500 times by Tuesday afternoon.

Trump's rally is being held at Stephen Decatur high school in Berlin at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz have already held events in Maryland, as the protracted battle for the Republican nomination continues.

Subject: Netanyahu Promises to 'Settle Score' with Bus Bombers

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 04:00 PM PDT

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu responded to Monday's bus bombing in Jerusalem which left at least 16 wounded, including one critically and two seriously, pledging to find those responsible and "settle the score."

"We will find whoever made the bomb, we'll get to [the terrorists] who delivered it, we'll get to the people standing behind [this attack] and we'll settle the score with these terrorists."

"We're in a constant battle against terrorism - terrorism of knives, of shootings, and of missiles. And also of tunnels. Israel made a great achievement in our efforts to find the terror tunnels," said Netanyahu, referring to Monday's announcement of the discovery of a Hamas tunnel leading into Israel.

The Hamas terror organization praised Monday's bombing, calling it "the natural response to Israeli crimes, particularly the field executions it conducts, and the assaults on the Al-Aqsa Mosque."

Islamic Jihad also justified the attack, saying that it "delivered the message that the Intifada would continue."

Gay Mafia ‘More Powerful than the NRA,’ Warns North Carolina Governor

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 02:30 PM PDT

The embattled governor of North Carolina says the anti-Christian Human Rights Campaign is more powerful than the National Rifle Association, which is arguably the most powerful issue group in the United States.

Republican Governor Pat McCrory tells NBC that the powerful gay group has "…millions of dollars, which makes me want overturn [Citizens] United, because I don't know who their donors are, either. But they are putting on a lot of pressure, instead of having a good dialogue."

McCrory said, "I don't think the government should be telling the private sector what their restroom and shower law should be, to allow a man into a woman's restroom or shower facility at a YMCA, for example."

McCrory is under continued assault from a highly organized and very rich coterie of homosexual organizations and their friends in business and the entertainment world for his defense of women and girls who do not want biological men urinating and showering with them.

PayPal canceled an expansion into Charlotte. Bruce Springsteen cancelled a concert, as did Ringo Starr. The NBA is threatening to pull the All-Star Game. And dozens of other major corporations have complained about the law.

Transsexual advocates cast the issue as one of discrimination, that biological men have a right to urinate and shower with biological women and girls. The Detroit Free Press this week editorialized that it is a violation of their Constitutional rights not to be allowed in girls' bathrooms and showers.

$1,000 Gun Tax Pushed as “Role Model” for States

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 01:00 PM PDT

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A $1,000 per gun tax should serve as a "role model" for states, according to the governor of the U.S. territory of the Northern Mariana Islands, which imposed the $1,000 gun tax earlier this month. An idea first endorsed by Hillary Clinton in 1993, steep gun taxes have now taken hold in Cook County, Ill. the city of Seattle, and now a U.S. territory.

As reported by the Saipan Tribune:

The administration of Gov. Ralph DLG Torres defended the CNMI's new gun control laws on Friday as a law that could be "a role model" for other U.S. states and jurisdictions facing seemingly uncontrolled and continued gun violence.

The administration was responding to queries regarding its position on recent reports that the a legal challenge to the new law, Public law 19-42, was likely, particularly over a provision that assesses a $1,000 excise tax on pistols.

The threat of such a tax serving as a role model for other politicians to impose is not an idle one. Consider the following:

Here's what would happen at if the Republicans have a contested convention

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 12:00 PM PDT

For much of the last year there were two things the vast majority of political prognosticators—including those here at Slate—could agree on: 1) Donald Trump would not be the Republican nominee, and 2) there would not be a contested convention in Cleveland. With half of the Republicans delegates now awarded, it now seems one of the two has to be wrong.

So what would a contested convention actually look like? How would it work? How did we get here? You have questions; we've got answers.

Let's start at the very beginning. What exactly is a contested convention?

Definitions vary but, generally speaking, a convention is considered contested when it begins with the ultimate nominee still in doubt. Typically, that means no single candidate has locked up a majority of delegates—the threshold needed to win the nomination—by the time the political festivities get underway. In a broader sense, though, a contested convention can happen even if someone does have the necessary majority of delegates as long as one of his or her rivals is unwilling to give up before the convention begins—as was the case in 1980 when Ted Kennedy mounted an unsuccessful last-ditch effort to snatch the Democratic nomination away from then-President Jimmy Carter via a rule change that would have freed pledged delegates to vote any way they wanted on the floor.

Adult ‘Refugee’ Posing As Child Evicted From Student Housing After Schoolgirl Rape

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 11:30 AM PDT

A group of asylum seekers in Austria have been evicted from student accommodation after one allegedly subjected a 13-year-old schoolgirl to a three-month rape ordeal.

Around 20 migrants from Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq, all claiming to be minors, were given free accommodation in the grounds of the technical college in the town of Hollabrunn, where a nursery school is also based.

The man arrested for the crime, identified only as Ahmad S. from Afghanistan, said he was 16-years-old. However, police now believe he is in his 20s.

The migrant first contacted and then groomed the young girl on social media. He met with her for the first time in a wooded area, before verbally threatening and then repeatedly raping her, police say.

Jackson Gone from $20 Bill

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 11:00 AM PDT

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew is expected to announce this week that Alexander Hamilton's face will remain on the front of the $10 bill and a woman will replace Andrew Jackson on the face of the $20 bill, a senior government source told CNN on Saturday.

Lew announced last summer that he was considering redesigning the $10 bill to include the portrait of a woman. The decision to make the historic change at the expense of Hamilton drew angry rebukes from fans of the former Treasury Secretary. The pro-Hamilton movement gained steam after the smash success of the hip-hop Broadway musical about his life this year.

Those pressures led Lew to determine that Hamilton should remain on the front of the bill. Instead, a mural-style depiction of the women's suffrage movement — including images of leaders such as Susan B. Anthony — will be featured on the back of the bill.

A Treasury spokesman declined to comment on the pending changes. But Lew hinted that a decision could come this week.

NY Post: Saudi Arabia’s Role in 9/11 ‘Deliberately Covered up at the Highest Levels of Our Government’

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 10:30 AM PDT

Paul Sperry writes that the "highest levels" of the U.S. government are implicated in a cover-up of Saudi Arabia's role in the 9/11 attacks, all to preserve diplomatic relations with the oil-rich Islamist nation.

From the New York Post:

In its report on the still-censored "28 pages" implicating the Saudi government in 9/11, "60 Minutes" last weekend said the Saudi role in the attacks has been "soft-pedaled" to protect America's delicate alliance with the oil-rich kingdom.

That's quite an understatement.

Actually, the kingdom's involvement was deliberately covered up at the highest levels of our government. And the coverup goes beyond locking up 28 pages of the Saudi report in a vault in the US Capitol basement. Investigations were throttled. Co-conspirators were let off the hook.

GRAND OLD PONZI CONVENTION

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 10:00 AM PDT

A STOLEN NOMINATION LOOMS …

In case you missed it, the "Republican" party – which this website left for dead years ago – is in the midst of a complete and total implosion. This ongoing meltdown – pitting party elites against the rank-and-file grassroots activists who put them in power in 2010 and 2014 – can be directly traced to the populist insurgency of GOP frontrunner Donald Trump.

Trump is by no means the perfect candidate (in fact we have called him out when he deserved it), but his campaign has repeatedly and relentlessly exposed the failure of the party "establishment" to stand on anything resembling its rhetoric.

(As if we needed a reminder of that).

Meanwhile Ted Cruz – another anti-Washington, D.C. candidate – has channeled the moral outrage of hardcore evangelical voters, creating another populist insurgency within the party.

Trump and Cruz have won the vast majority of delegates to the 2016 GOP convention. More importantly, they have won a whopping 14.5 million votes – or two-thirds of the ballots cast thus far.

Subject: Disney’s ‘Once Upon a Time’ Features Lesbian ‘True Love’s Kiss’

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 09:53 AM PDT

Disney's fairy-tale drama Once Upon a Time featured its first same-sex relationship during Sunday night's episode, when Ruby (Meghan Ory) travels to the Underworld to track down and save Dorothy (Teri Reeves) from the villainous Wicked Witch (Rebecca Mader).

The Hollywood Reporter has the episode recap:

Ruby and Dorothy end up bonding over shared family problems, and Ruby turns to Mulan for advice about her feelings. "I know we just met, but I have never felt like this about anyone before," she tells Mulan. "Don't make the same mistake that I did. Don't wait until it's too late to tell someone how you feel," Mulan replies, but by the time Ruby goes to do so, Dorothy is gone.

Ruby tracks down Zelena in the Underworld, finds out the Wicked Witch put Dorothy under a sleeping curse, and with a little advice from her good friend Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin), she clicks some magical slippers and goes to Oz to kiss her True Love awake. They get more than just one of True Love's kisses and presumably (hopefully?!) will live happily ever after.

GAY MONEY IS GREEN MONEY

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 09:45 AM PDT

BUT SO IS HOMOPHOBE MONEY…

An openly gay British CEO has decided to move his company's headquarters from Charleston, S.C. to Los Angeles, California … ostensibly because of S.C. Senator Lee Bright's controversial "bathroom bill."

Bright's legislation seeks to prohibit local governments from regulating restrooms … ostensibly in the name of preventing transgenders from relieving themselves in the wrong stall.

Bright's bill hasn't passed, but that's not stopping some gay businessmen – like Uphold CEO Anthony Watson – from leaving the Palmetto State anyway.

"Some of you may be aware that Uphold's U.S. headquarters is based in Charleston, South Carolina," company CEO wrote on his company's blog. "In recent days, we have been made aware that South Carolina Sen. Lee Bright has introduced a bill largely mirroring North Carolina's controversial law that blocks local governments from passing LGBT-inclusive anti-discrimination ordinances. As such, we feel compelled to take action to oppose the discrimination being proposed in South Carolina and protect our LGBT employees."

MORE SC “REPUBLICAN” DELEGATE SHENANIGANS

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 09:30 AM PDT

"FIRST IN THE SOUTH" FUNNY BUSINESS …

Another day, another story of South Carolina "Republican" insiders working to undercut frontrunner Donald Trump in the battle for "First in the South" delegates he's already technically won …

We've previously reported on alleged "necktie bribes" offered by a sitting state lawmaker in the Palmetto State's seventh congressional district, but today's story comes from the fourth congressional district – where an operative allegedly in the employ of the S.C. "Republican" party was busted passing out flyers purportedly on behalf of the Trump campaign.

These flyers identified a so-called slate of Trump delegates in the hopes party loyalists attending the convention would cast their votes for other candidates.

Here's a look at one of the flyers …

Ocean City To Increase Inlet, Street Parking Rates For This Summer; Revenue Will Be Used To Fund Improvements

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 09:23 AM PDT

OCEAN CITY — It will cost more to park at the Inlet lot and along most streets and municipal lots in the downtown area this summer after the Mayor and Council on Friday agreed to across-the-board hikes to offset the increased costs of maintaining the facilities.

During a final budget wrap session last Friday, Public Works Director Hal Adkins presented a variety of issues related to the Inlet lot and on-street and municipal parking lots metered with the familiar CALE machines. In terms of the Inlet lot, Adkins said the parking lot booths are subject to flooding during storm events and water and salt have taken their toll on the electric conduits and equipment. Adkins said he is fairly confident his department can get through this summer with the compromised equipment but not so confident in future summers. As a result, the Inlet lot parking booths and configuration will have to go through another major restoration sometime in the near future.

A Voting Lines Lawsuit? Must Be Nice

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 09:15 AM PDT

ARIZONA CASE HIGHLIGHTS U.S. JUSTICE DEPARTMENT'S HYPOCRISY ON VOTING RIGHTS

A major voting rights lawsuit will be filed in Arizona this week related to last month's disastrous primary election – in which voters were forced to wait in lines of up to five hours due to a shortage of available polling places (and ballots).

"Arizonans were denied their constitutional right to vote because those who run the system weren't prepared, and it can never happen again," said Ann Kilpatrick, a Democratic U.S. Senatorial candidate who is one of the plaintiffs in the action.

Those bringing the suit – including the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton – allege that the polling place/ ballot shortages were specifically targeted to low-income, minority areas of the state. Oh, and in addition to the lawsuit the U.S. Department of Justice (USDOJ) has opened an investigation in the matter – sending a letter to Arizona officials demanding that they provide information to the agency's civil rights division so it can be determined whether Arizonans voting rights were violated.

There’s A John Kasich Gay Smear, Too?

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 09:00 AM PDT

MORE INSANITY FROM AMERICA'S BIZARRO ELECTION…

First it was Marco Rubio … now it's John Kasich.

Conservative internet websites are ablaze with rumors that the Ohio governor – a devout, married evangelical – is really a closeted homosexual. Leading the coverage? The Political Insider, a website which played a starring role in spreading the "Rubio is gay" smear.

According to the site, "almost all of Kasich's inner circle seems to be homosexual moderate Republicans." The site also alleges that Kasich "lived with a gay man for years while serving in Congress."

Hmmm … seems thin to us, but then again Kasich's over-the-top (and costly) Christian conservatism makes him a target for such attacks.

Once a fiscal conservative stalwart, Kasich has veered wildly to the left in recent years … in fact he has emerged this year as the top choice of so-called moderate and centrist "Republican" voters. In recent months, Kasich has sought to marry his fiscal liberalism with a more "tolerant" social posture – saying he would oppose efforts to ban gay marriage, for example.

"The court has ruled … we'll accept it," Kasich said.

Obama's War on Property

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 08:00 AM PDT

Obama and his Democratic allies are busy undermining the fundamental principle of private property rights.  Too many Americans today do not understand the importance of property rights or the danger of undermining them on other rights.  As described by  President Calvin Coolidge: "Ultimately property rights and personal rights are the same thing.  The one cannot be preserved if the other be violated."

In case you have not aware of the current attack in Baltimore County, the County Council will be considering a bill that will force those who rent out their property to accept Section 8 vouchers. And HUD is now promoting forcing them to accept those with a criminal record. AND the County Executive has agreed to building 1000 houses at $300,00 per house to move inner city residents into "prosperous neighborhoods."   Who pays for this housing? The hard working citizens who are struggling to pay their mortgage on their $100,000 town house.

We have come a long way from a free society.  Is it possible to go back?

Obama's War on America and Property

CanadaFreePress.com

Recently Baltimore County came to a settlement with the City over a scheme to colonize affluent County neighborhoods with HUD housing. According to Fox News:
"With crime in the inner city soaring and many of Baltimore's neighborhoods plagued by gang violence, there was a push to integrate those communities into neighborhoods in the surrounding county. The NAACP and others sued Baltimore County over alleged housing segregation – and the county has now settled, agreeing to spend $30 million over the next 10 years to build 1,000 homes in affluent neighborhoods.
On top of that, the Baltimore County executive is planning to put forward legislation outlawing the practice of landlords denying – or as some see it, discriminating against – Section 8 tenants.
"I think it's important that we make sure that opportunities are available to everyone within the region," County Executive Kevin Kamenetz said."
First it should be pointed out that integration was never the primary purpose of the Fair Housing Act or any subsequent legislation; the purpose was to grant civil rights to protected classes, allowing them to live where they choose. Integration was a tool used to enforce civil rights in education, not in housing. Nowhere is integration even implied as a fundamental right in the Constitution, nor is the benefits of living in a good neighborhood.
What is very interesting is that the County plans to force landlords to accept government funding of unqualifiable tenants via Section 8. Section 8 is a difficult program to deal with; they require a series of inspections, often very demanding and far above what local municipalities require of landlords, and they have a bad habit of simply stopping funding at inopportune moments for any and every reason. This should not stand in court, but in the era of Obama - who has appointed fully 324 Federal judges as of April 12 of 2016 - chances are good that it will not be struck down.
And since when is opportunity a civil right? Opportunity is the fallout of civil rights, not a right in itself, and property rights are by far the cornerstone of all civil rightsPresident Calvin Coolidge once said;
"Ultimately property rights and personal rights are the same thing.  The one cannot be preserved if the other be violated."

And the philosopher John Locke, so influential to the Founding Fathers, said;
"Government has no other end than the preservation of property."
Or as John Adams put it:
"The moment the idea is admitted into society that property is not as sacred as the law of God, and that there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny commence."

HUD has been pursuing a scheme to build low-income housing in affluent neighborhoods nationwide

Yet here we are in modern America promoting the idea that property rights must be abridged to "grant" civil rights to a certain protected class. And this is not just a quirk of Baltimore; HUD has been pursuing a scheme to build low-income housing in affluent neighborhoods nationwide, ostensibly as a way to redress discrimination. According toCNS News:
"On Wednesday, two weeks after getting the Supreme Court's okay, the Obama administration issued a final rule intended to move poor people "into communities that are rich with opportunity," as HUD Secretary Julián Castro phrased it in his news release.
The new regulation is all about "affirmatively furthering fair housing," HUD says."
In short, the Administration plans to colonize predominantly white and Asian communities with likely Democratic voters. This is a dirty political trick, one designed to overcome the predominance of Republicans in governorships and state legislatures, who control redistricting. The Obama Administration found an easy way to make the power to control districts mute by simply colonizing those districts and thus diluting the vote. It is a sort of reverse gerrymandering, where instead of creating districts they create demographics.
Blockbusting is illegal. Blockbusting is a conscious attempt to trigger panic selling by suggesting something dire is coming - like large low-income housing being built in a neighborhood thus reducing property values. Essentially HUD is blockbusting on a national scale here. This can also be seen as a due process violation, because the construction of HUD housing will lower property values, thus constitute an eminent domain taking without due compensation.http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/eminent+domain
Not content to rest on his laurels with this triumph over America's fundamental right, Julian HUD director Castro (fitting name) now wants to force landlords to rent to convicted criminals, a non-protected class.
His reasoning is that, since minorities make up the preponderance of convicted criminals, a prudent policy of denying criminals tenancy is de facto an act of racial discrimination and thus grounds for punitive action by HUD.
"Right now, many housing providers use the fact of a conviction, any conviction, regardless of what it was for or how long ago it happened, to indefinitely bar folks from housing opportunities," Mr. Castro said in a statement.
"Many people who are coming back to neighborhoods are only looking for a fair chance to be productive members, but blanket policies like this unfairly deny them that chance," added Castro."
Mr. Castro intends to use the full power of his office to compel property owners to rent to people they would never rent to otherwise, and to put their good tenants in jeopardy in the process. There have been a number of court rulings on this very thing, and in point of fact it has been made plain that landlords are legally responsible for knowingly renting to potentially dangerous felons.
Eugene Volokh gives us the rundown on that:
"According to the case that I cited (a case where the University of Kansas knowingly rented to an ex-convict who raped another resident), a landlord's duty of reasonable care to his tenants would require him to take steps to protect the tenants against criminal attack by cotenants — presumably, according to some of the commenters who were defending the Kansas decision, by evicting the tenant, and (I take it) by not renting to the tenant in the first place if the landlord knows or has reason to know of the past conviction. And if indeed criminal background checks are cheap, it would be reasonable for the landlord to do that check and learn of the conviction."

Landlords are liable for illegal activity on the premises

Indeed, landlords are liable for illegal activity on the premises, and can face the following penalties:
  • You could face fines for allowing the illegal activity to continue to occur
  • You could face criminal penalties for knowingly allowing the illegal activity to occur
  • The rental property can be confiscated by the government, but this is only in extreme cases
  • In addition to criminal penalties, there can be other negative consequences for landlords. These can include:
    1. Rental property value can drop, thus making it hard to find and keep tenants
    2. If a tenant or anyone else in the neighborhood is injured or annoyed by the drug dealing, you could be sued on the grounds that the rental property constitutes a public nuisance that threatens public safety and morals.
The most potent defense in the landlord's arsenal is the application process; the landlord has the power to deny tenancy. It is the most prudent and logical course of action. Yet HUD is going to force landlords to accept criminals, and do so in a manner that will keep the government's hands clean; no legislation or executive orders involved, so the landlords wind up bearing all of the legal liability.
Interestingly enough, this will have the reverse of the desired effect; landlords will have to tighten their screening process, making credit and employment requirements far stricter. The end result will be that poor people will be denied more frequently, as will the self-employed or under employed. Right now there are a number of places that specialize in low income housing and they will have to change that, driving retirees into the streets. Contractors and other seasonal workers will find it hard to rent property since their credit is often less than perfect during the slow season. The self-employed will be out. And always the applications will have to be run, lest an accusation of bias be leveled by HUD, so a person who is likely to be denied cannot be told that is the case, and he or she will have to lose the application fee, costing them money.
This will destroy low and middle- income housing.
It is also a violation of a number of state and local ordinances. Here in St. Louis an unconstitutional law that required landlords to obtain licenses from St. Louis County (see here) over and above obtaining clear occupancy inspections - even when letting a relative live on the premises for free - requires the following:
" The [Director of the Department of Public Works] may provide written notice to the owner of residential rental property licensed under this Code that an occupant thereof, within a period of one year, has been convicted of having violated a felony, misdemeanor or ordinance related to the following acts:
  a. illegal sale, manufacture, storing, possession, distribution or use of narcotics or other controlled substances or
precursors;
  b. illegal sale, manufacture, storing, possession, distribution or use of drug paraphernalia or precursors;
  c. illegal sale, storing, possession, use or distribution of a firearm, weapon or explosive device, or other
violation of law related to use or possession of the same;
  d. prostitution;
  e. illegal gambling;
  f. illegal sale, distribution and consumption of alcoholic beverages.
Within 30 days of receipt of such notice from the Director, the owner shall initiate eviction proceedings against such occupant or occupants, and shall thereafter diligently pursue them… An owner who fails to begin eviction proceedings with regard to such occupant or occupants within 30 days of receipt of the Director's notice, or who fails diligently to pursue such eviction proceedings, shall be subject to license suspension.
And here are the penalties the bill would levy on a landlord for not evicting a tenant who, for example, had been convicted in the past year of violating the county ordinance prohibiting consumption of alcohol in a massage parlor — or something equally innocuous:
Every person or entity convicted of a violation of any of the provisions of this chapter shall be fined not more than
One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) or imprisoned in the St. Louis County Jail for not more than one year, or be punished by both such fine and imprisonment.
Each day in which a person or entity allows occupancy of residential rental property in violation of any provision of this chapter shall constitute a separate violation."

Of all the comments posted, none of them press for facts. Nor do all the letters and statements (like the one posted here) from the union state facts. What is the profit margin of the company? Worded another way, what is the amount of money (percentage) after the company pulls in its profit, then pays all the expenses (utilities, rent, mortgages on buildings, equipment, supplies, salaries, benefits, unemployment tax, employers portion of FICA, on and on....)?

As far as salary increases, 6.5% is something. As far as a "step backwards," welcome to life. Welcome to politics and shooting yourself in the foot by the union supporting liberal policies. Sad that now the first thing on a persons mind when looking for a job is the medical coverage. Used to be what the whole salary was and if you could make your house and car payments. House and car are now secondary. BTW, there are no specifics on salaries. Someone answer this question. I DARE YOU. Say I have 10 years with the company, and I am a phone line installer, set up person, field engineer type. Also troubleshoot and repair the lines on the poles and going into buildings. Jack of all trades with a bucket truck. What would said person make per hour? Let us as blog readers decide what to think knowing that information. (Military and Government posts their pay scales for all the world to see, why not the employees the unions are supporting do as well?)

Ultimately, if you don't like your pay. Leave.

Job security, no such thing anymore. Welcome to life. 50 miles before compensation? Right, personal car you get mileage pay. Company vehicle, no wear and tear on your own car. Be aware typical travel time in many companies is only while you would normally be on the clock. You work 7-4. But the time for you to fly or drive somewhere on business is from 7 to 7. You don't get paid those 3 other hours, only mileage during those 3 hours unless you are flying commercial.

Pensions. Few and far between now days. Take what you can get offered. Join the military, be a reservist and get a pension starting at 60. Be aggressive with your 401K and your investments. Buy some rental properties. Be a scrooge. Don't buy a third car, boat, jet sky, pool, cruises, long vacations. Save up your money.

Call sharing. I want the contractor to get to my house faster to fix the line ripped down in the storm. The call center that is loosing the positions, you should demand that you handle the calls and push to exceed the time frame it takes for a contractor to be notified so he can get here faster. If the local call centers are slow, get rid of them.

Healthcare. "increases in healthcare contributions while diminishing plan coverage." Welcome to ObamaCare. Welcome to today. Your union and others pressed for it, now you got it. Personal story. I worked for a company with BCBS. Year change from 2012 to 2013, premiums when up 49%. Changed to Coventry. Again, year change from 2013 to 2014 premiums went up %15. Deductibles where $5000 up front and then pay 20% after that up to limit of $7500. Then insurance paid 100%. I left and now work as a contractor and I take care of my own medical through Tricare. Benefit of my part time military service. Our CEO offered $10000 a year to each of us if we were to get our own medical. Think of the savings he would have and the savings of having to hire a person who's only job was dealing with medical issues of the rest of the employees?

Retiree Medical. Again, see the above paragraph. Such is life. Get a part time gig at Home Depot, make a hobby a money maker. Work if you can work. The days of being 65 with your feet up chillin' on the back deck are gone.

Forced overtime assignments. I guess the union doesn't know anyone in the healthcare industry and being on call, you never know when you will be called in and for how long, sometimes into the next work day as you work overnight. You might be awake for 24+ hours. But don't count on overtime to pay the bills. Think of the military. Deployments in another weird assed country for months at a time, taking risks. When they get back, you know what they can do? Suck it up or get out.

Why haven't you worked your way up to get into higher management and reap the rewards of doing so? Kinda like a private eventually becoming a 4 star general. Your envy of the fat cats isn't going to produce sympathy in me.

Remember, you do not have the right to a job. You can't make demands standing on your bosses desk, he has to power to tell you "Get out."

What's the process to work as a scab? Many folks have a vast technical and mechanical background and can certainly do what needs to be done. Say they sign on to work for Verizon for say....$?? an hour as a full contractor? They pay their unemployment taxes, their medical, take the risk of injury. What would you people out there in SBYNEWS land realistically ask for in an hourly salary as a contractor/scab? I am sure it would be less than what the company is paying for an employee now.

As far as the union employees, has there been any thought that any increases in your benefits makes the customers bills climb? No concern about that? Employees, you have it pretty good. Shut up."

Subject: Yellow Fever Outbreak in Angola is 'Threat to Entire World'

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 06:45 AM PDT

An outbreak of yellow fever in Angola in which hundreds have already died could be "a threat to the entire world", the World Health Organisation has warned.

Cases of the mosquito-borne virus were first reported in Angola's capital Luanda in December. The disease has now spread to 16 of the country's 18 provinces.

So far, thousands of people are suspected to have been infected with the disease and 238 people have died, WHO has reported.

"The evolution of the situation in Angola is concerning and needs to be closely monitored," it stated in a report.

People traveling from Angola have already exported the virus to China, Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo, where at least 21 people are reported to have died.

The trend has sparked concerns among the WHO, which fears the virus is at risk of spreading further because of the large international communities living in Angola that regularly travels to neighboring countries.

Mark,

When I visited the opening of Trump HQ, I was later told that Ms. Wellfonger (sp?) was there. From her actions, she is a staunch Democrat. Now we have Julie Brewery pounding against Trump. I really don't get it, (well, yes I do)

I have avoided approaching the Central Committee for membership just because of these two, but I guess my real question is, do you and the rest agree with these people and back them up somehow? I heard now that there was a shared table space at 3rd Friday with the democrats club. True?

Are R's and D's the same party now here and lobbying against Trump? Is it now R&D against Trump? With Cruz being the biggest RINO in the race, I can see the chances of that.

I mean, that's what I'm seeing nationwide, and am wondering if your Committee is doing the same in light of your present membership? Colorado and Wyoming seem to be happy to ignore the voting process, and with the current "fear" being displayed by the RNC over Trump's popularity, I wonder why the RNC ever accepted him as a bona fide candidate in the first place, and why they have now decided to become the Choice of the Peoples worst enemy.

I would truly like to get involved in our local and national election process as a Conservative person, but am quite put off with what I would have to work with here. Would me joining advance any of your agenda, or would I be better off to just start my own Trump Support Organization that would not think twice about going Independent with Donald if he was finally voted out by the dead RNC?

Free-speech advocates confirm students distraught over campaign slogans

On university campuses, where many enthusiastic students vote for the first time, political candidates' slogans typically appear on signs, bumper stickers, T-shirts, placards, dorm-room walls and even in chalk on sidewalks.

But as with about everything else in the 2016 presidential race, there's nothing normal about the impact of the slogans this year, especially the ones promoting GOP front-runner Donald Trump.

They're striking terror.

The incidences of Trump sidewalk art across the nation even has been dubbed "The Chalkening."

"'The Chalkening' spreads,' tests universities' commitment to free speech," headlined the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education.

Why Ballistic Fingerprinting Is Not An Effective Crime Tool (May 2003)

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 06:15 AM PDT

After a killing spree in the national capital area in October, 2002, gun haters have once again used the Beltway shootings as an excuse for more gun control.

USA Today. The New York Times. Various syndicated columnists. They have all jumped on the gun control bandwagon. This should be no surprise, for gun control advocates feel that restrictions on firearms are the cure for all of society's ills: from stopping murderers to curing the common cold.

Remember how Mayor David Dinkins responded to the stabbing murder of a Utah tourist on the New York City subway in 1990? In a subsequent press conference, Mayor Dinkins said that the stabbing (with a knife) proved that we needed more gun control, such as a national waiting period on firearm purchases!

Well, the latest weapon in the gun hater's arsenal is the registration of firearms. Specifically, they want to register the supposedly unique "ballistic fingerprint" that many firearms leave on bullets or cartridge cases after they are fired, and trace them back to the original buyer of the guns.

Ballistic fingerprinting will hardly ever solve a crime, but it will accomplish something else -- a gun registry tied to the owners of the guns.
Ballistic registration does not work to track criminals

Ballistic fingerprinting will not work to lower crime rates for a number of reasons. Probably foremost is that most crooks do not use valid IDs to buy guns in stores. According to the Carter Justice Department study done by Drs. Wright and Rossi, criminals usually do not leave a paper trail when buying guns. That means that the evidence chain will rarely ever connect back to the bad guys.

To state the obvious, criminals can steal their guns from their victims, or they can borrow or rent them from fellow crooks.

Lee Boyd Malvo, one of the DC-area snipers in October of 2002, has admitted that he stole his Bushmaster rifle from a gun store in the state of Washington. All the ballistic registration laws imaginable would not have linked the gun to him.

Even when bad guys buy their weapons from gun stores, they can use fake IDs or straw purchasers to complete the sale.

The General Accounting Office issued a report in 2001 which shows how investigators were able to purchase guns using fake IDs every time they tried. Of course, this suggests that criminals can easily get their firearms from gun stores -- even while submitting to the background check.

All the evidence to date suggests that criminals will easily be able to get around a registration scheme that traces ballistic evidence at a crime scene back to the person who originally bought the firearm:
* Maryland registers the ballistic fingerprints of every new handgun sold in the state. To date -- despite the fact that thousands of ballistic fingerprints have been registered with the state police -- not one crime has yet been solved with this technology.

Dear students,

You have every right to protest, and if that is what you choose to do I hope it is peaceful.

May I suggest instead that this is your opportunity to see and hear a presidential candidate in orderly forum. This is history in the making for your generation, and a rare opportunity. In fact, it is a new experience for me; and I have voted for several presidents from each party. How can you protest something that you know nothing about?

You probably have never paid rent/mortgage, been responsible for a family...let alone an entire country. Nor have you had an opportunity to choose a president as you are not old enough.

Please do not disrupt this for the people who are going to vote and who want to hear what any candidate has to say.

Ohio State Disbands Protest By Treating Students Like Adults

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 06:00 AM PDT

A few months ago, protesters disrupted the University of Missouri. Caving into their demands, the university lost its president and enrollment dipped. Students attempted something similar at (The™) Ohio State University last week, listing demands such as complete access to the university's budget and that OSU divest itself from investments in Hewlett Packard because, the protesters claimed, the company was involved in human rights abuses. To call attention to these demands, 80 to 150 students occupied the main administration building.

This is when Ohio State Vice President Jay Kasey paid them a visit.

In a video of the exchange, Kasey said the OSU president would not negotiate with the students. "If you refuse to leave," Kasey warned, "then you will be charged with a student code of conduct violation. … If you are here at 5:00 a.m. we will clear the building and you will be arrested. We will give you the opportunity to go to jail for your beliefs."

Veteran Lays Out One Simple Thing That Congress Can Do to Help Treat PTSD

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 05:30 AM PDT

Every day, 22 Veterans commit suicide in America. As Donald Trump and many others have pointed out, we do a terrible job of taking care of our Vets. Many suffer from crippling depression, homelessness, and a crippling sense of purposelessness that makes a full life wholly unlivable. Simply put, this is unacceptable in a nation that is as wealthy and as engaged globally as the United States. If we're going to be sending so many men into harm's way, we'd better make damn sure that we're going to take care of them when they get back. Where do we start? One young Vet has a solution. As ABC reports:

As Cole Lyle testified before Congress today, his service dog, Kaya, was at his feet.

Lyle, a Marine veteran who served in Afghanistan, suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

After several years taking prescribed sleep aids and antidepressants and even contemplating suicide, he said he decided to try a different kind of therapy: trained service dogs.

Service dogs are not provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, so Lyle tried to get a dog through local nonprofit groups.

But the wait times were over a year, and Lyle said he didn't feel like he had time to wait. He purchased Kaya and had her trained for PTSD symptoms by an Assistance Dogs International-accredited trainer. After spending $10,000 of his own money, he had the help he needed."The bad days are less frequent than they have ever been," Lyle told the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

Lyle testified before the committee about the benefits he's experienced since having Kaya, including how Kaya knows to wake him up when he's suffering from a nightmare. The dog has reinvigorated his life with purpose, he said.

Now, he's speaking out in the hopes that the VA will change its policy.

Currently, the VA does not provide benefits for PTSD or mental health dogs because they say the dogs are not known to be effective in overcoming specific functional limitations in veterans with PTSD.

...A new bill, H.R. 4764, will direct the VA to carry out a five-year pilot program in which the agency will provide service dogs and veterinary health insurance to certain veterans who served on active duty on or after Sept. 11, 2001, and were diagnosed with, and continue to suffer from, PTSD.

Lyle's testimony is above, and it's pretty damn convincing. As we stated earlier, Veterans are dying every single day. Many more are suffering and on their way to suicide. This is unacceptable, and we should be throwing everything AND the kitchen sink at the problem. As Lyle notes, the price of an exhaustive government study that won't provide an answer until 2018 is the lives of many of our courageous young men and women, who are currently unable to get the help they need. A nation so quick to send young people off to fight in foreign lands shouldn't all of a sudden get deliberative and cheap when it comes to mitigating the consequences of those tours. If anecdotal evidence from combat veterans suggests that a therapy dog will help them recover, then Congress should move to fund an arrangement that funds and expedites the adoption process.

In the meantime, there are several ways you can help. Write your member and tell them to support H.R. 4764. You can write the members of the committee, and urge them to expedite the process, or you can support organizations like Paws for Veterans and Vets Adopt Pets.

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 05:15 AM PDT

The Eastern Shore Pregnancy Center in Salisbury, MD, is beginning its annual Change for Life Baby Bottle campaign on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 8, as a fund raising effort to provide for the on-going needs of the Pregnancy Center.

Said Jackie Seldon, the Pregnancy Center's Director, "Mother's Day is a perfect time to begin this campaign to remind people that the Eastern Shore Pregnancy Center is about the mothers as well as the babies, and that Father's Day, on which we end, is about the fathers we assist, as well."

This annual fund raising effort helps the center to provide material as well as educational and spiritual blessings and benefits to pregnant young women in the community, as well as to the babies, and their fathers.

Baby bottles may be picked up at the Eastern Shore Pregnancy Center at 1300 South Division St., Suite C, in Salisbury, for use at your church. These bottles may then be distributed on Mother's Day, returned on Father's Day, and filled with the change from your pockets and purse in between.

I don't normally post negative things out here on social media but I am so disappointed with our local media. Yesterday several bikers attended the "RIDE TO THE TIDE" event that started in Smyrna, DE Harley Davidson and ended at Jake's Seafood in Rehoboth, DE. This was an event to support the "SPECIAL OLYMPICS." There were 1000 yes ONE THOUSAND motorcycles and over 1400 riders that attended this event. The local Delaware Blue Knights Chapter 1 put on this event and it was very successful. WBOC was a sponsor for this event. Has anyone seen or heard ANYTHING on this event in our local media? Come on WBOC it's more than just a matter of giving money to support. You are our local media television and radio station. Where was your booth? Your van? Your photographer? The Chopper? Can you imagine what this would of looked like from the view of Chopper 16? It was amazing. People lined the highway taking pictures and videos. The Police Department was awesome in the way they escorted and made sure there was NO incidents. We hear so much NEGATIVITY now in our area it's disgusting but when something great happens...where is the coverage? I just can't believe that you couldn't of assigned a crew to represent such a great event. If you have posted anything WBOC TV then I apologize and I will remove this post. But I haven't seen anything on your website or on the news. Shame on you! So for those of you who support our local community and believe that there are some good doers out there, thank you for riding! Eagle Riders Salisbury, Hogs and Hero's, Arrogant Bastards just to mention a few! Please feel free to share! Rant Over!

Trump vs. Hillary: How Soon?

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 04:00 AM PDT

Upcoming Primaries: The northeast corridor now steps into the proverbial batter's box, as the New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Maryland primaries is just around the corner. New York voters will cast their ballots next Tuesday, while the other states' electors have their chance on April 26th.

Several polls suggest that Donald Trump and former New York Sen. Hillary Clinton will easily win their respective Republican and Democratic New York primaries. But placing first there is not the only objective. Trump needs a major delegate haul to reinvigorate his campaign after losing Wisconsin on April 5th. It is critical for Trump to score a landslide delegate haul in order to return to the realm of obtaining a first ballot victory at the Republican National Convention. Therefore, he needs to garner in the neighborhood of 80 New York delegates from the pool of 95 in their very complicated delegate allocation system. In a combined statewide/congressional district allocation system (NY has 27 districts), attaining this number will be difficult even though all surveys project him to a healthy lead over Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

Ms. Clinton's road to her nomination is much simpler than Mr. Trump's. Now in a position where she needs only 30% of the outstanding delegates to clinch the nomination, taking the lion's share of New York's 291 Democratic delegates will go a long way to achieving her goal. Polling gives her low double-digit leads over Sen. Bernie Sanders, which might be considered an under-performance from a state that twice elected her Senator. Such a finish, however, will be more than enough to meet her state delegate projection quota.

Rigged! At least two candidates, one in each party, are complaining about both the Republican and Democratic nominating process. Donald Trump unleashed against the Colorado system that does not have a primary or caucus attached to the delegate allocation process. Rather, the Republicans meet in a state convention and choose the state's 34 available delegates. Because Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) worked the process, he was rewarded with a sweep of the unbounded delegation and is apparently scoring a backdoor Winner-Take-All victory. A week earlier, the North Dakota Republican Party conducted a similar delegate apportionment state convention, also with Cruz faring considerably better than Trump, but without the chorus of complaints emanating from the Trump camp.

On the Democratic side, it was Hillary Clinton's team who was accusing Sen. Bernie Sanders (I/D-VT) of trying to "rig" the convention. Ms. Clinton's spokesman, Brian Fallon, stated that Sanders going after the announced Clinton Super Delegates to convince them to switch sides is his (Fallon's) definition of "rigging" the nomination system. For the record, neither side is rigged, and all of the actions in both parties have been within the agreed upon party rules.

What an amazing transformation. Our sweet Violet is now 104lbs. She went from being broken spirited and emaciated, to having the brightest spirit and most loving heart. She still has a way to go. Her scars on both the inside and outside will take time. BUT, she is finally well enough to be spayed, and have some of her broken teeth removed.
Please send your love and prayers to her for a safe surgery and speedy recovery tomorrow. Goodnight Everyone and thank you for your amazing, amazing support. -

This is going to be quick I need to get dinner on the table.
Last night I slept in my own bed with hopes she would venture upstairs to look for us and explore, no such luck. Violet did however do a "roll call" as I'll lovingly refer to it, at about 5am. It was good to hear her vocals. My husband and I sprung for our bed in panic ran to the hall. My husband took her out and she simply peed and was ready to go back to bed. I think her true intentions were to see how high we'd jump when she says "jump". Also last night before turning in she did the zoomies outside with me, my heart sang.
Violet's letting me know when she thinks it's time to eat. She goes to her bowl looks at it and let's out a big yawn. She's also letting me know she prefers not to have the large metal weighted ball in her bowl by pushing it up and out with her nose. I used this ball to slow down our Baya when she ate they're great and found on Amazon. She's a leaner and pushes her weight on you and definitely out drools our Baya.
Something that broke my heart this morning is as I was making bacon for breakfast she didn't even get off her bed. It made me think what dog doesn't move to the kitchen for the smell of bacon. So, then I started thinking what possibly could have been done to her to not make her move for bacon, that question may always remain open ended

4-18-16
As I sit on the deck with Violet in the still of mid morning I can't help but reflect upon where she came from, how far she has come and where she'll be once her healing is complete. I'm inspired by this animal who suffered at the hands of a human yet shows everyone she meets such grace, compassion and love. How she can simply choose to forget, let go and carry on. How I wish the wrong doings done against "us humans" could be so easily left in the past. I don't know about you but I'm trying to take a lesson from Violet.
In the 10days that we've had her home she's already shown that she's coming out of her shell. She is protecting her yard with vigilance, eating like a beast, drooling like a monger, playing keep away, doing zoomies like a "nut job" and is wanting to please all she meets. I've taken Violet on two brief walks she did amazing, made her "satin balls" and gave her a bath yesterday which she did really well. She was feeling so good and confident that she followed me halfway up the stairs.....until she realized what she was doing, turned and made a bee line back down. She has had a few peeing accidents and one poo which I'm not quite understanding why bc I'm home with her practically all day and we spend a ton of time outside. She won't go off the deck without encouragement from us being in the yard. I take her out in the morning before waking the kid for school, bring her in for breakfast then let her back out. I watch her closely from the kitchen window and I don't think she leaves the deck again until I come out. I can sit on the deck with her and she'll go off to patrol her yard but she won't leave it if she's left to her own devices outside.
This weekend Violet got a care package in the mail from a special admirer I think hoping to win the affections of such a graceful beauty. Our son had a friend over whose family has rescued several animals. The boys played in the basement and Violet stood by the door curious to what all the laughter was about down there. I told her to go see the boys....but no. We had dinner on the deck with this family who made homemade treats for Violet, she enjoyed laying on the deck and checking in on the boys as they played in the yard and she soaked up all the attention. Every passing minute things are getting better and better

Troopers Investigate Single Vehicle Fatal Crash West of Delmar

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 03:30 AM PDT

Delmar, DE – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a single vehicle crash that killed one person.

The incident occurred around 10:06 p.m. Monday April 18, 2016 as a 37-year-old Laurel man was operating a 2004 Mini Cooper northbound on Providence Church Road just north of Pine Branch Road. The operator lost control of the vehicle as he entered a slight left curve and exited the east side of the roadway where it struck a driveway culvert causing the vehicle to go airborne and then strike a ditch embankment. The small car continued north and struck a tree with the front bumper before rotating clockwise and coming to a stop. Shortly after coming to stop, the operator was pulled from the vehicle as it became engulfed in flames.

The 37-year-old male was the lone occupant of the vehicle. He was transported by EMS to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this case. Providence Church Road was closed for approximately three and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

How Obama's Budget Cuts Are Endangering Marines

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 03:00 AM PDT

Fox News reports that the Marine Corps Aviation has been severely suffering from budget cuts, and meeting deployment demands.

Out of 276 F/A-18 Hornet strike fighters in the Marine Corps inventory, only about 30% are ready to fly, according to statistics provided by the Corps. Similarly, only 42 of 147 heavy-lift CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters are airworthy.

Attrition is common in the military, where parts break regularly due to wear and tear, but these levels are unprecedently low, compromising national security. This is not the first time that attrition levels have been so high as to cause operational issues. Just last year, the US Navy was unable to sustain an aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf for 2 months, relying on the French Aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle for air support.

Marines have always prized their fixed-air aviation due to their World War II experience. In Guadalcanal, the US Navy was pushed away, leaving Marines isolated on the island in the face of Japanese assaults. Although Marines emerged victorious, they desired fixed aviation from that point on. Time will tell if Obama's budget cuts will lead to the demise of Marine aviation and the end of

Marines have resorted to cannibalize current aircrafts to fix damaged ones. Marines have been operating the aging F/A-18 Hornet for several decades now, waiting for the F-35 to be operational. Obama's budget cuts have delayed upkeep of current aircrafts and procurement of new ones, putting our men and women in uniform at risk.

Sarah Palin vs. Bill Nye: The Big Science Battle

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 02:00 AM PDT

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin ripped into Bill Nye "The Science Guy" Thursday at a Capitol Hill event, calling him an entertainer who harms kids by telling them global warming is man-made.

"Bill Nye is as much a scientist as I am," Palin said at a Washington, D.C. event held in anticipation of the upcoming global warming-centered film "Climate Hustle." "He's a kids' show actor, he's not a scientist."

Palin, who was a vice presidential candidate in 2008, advised parents to train their kids to question the kinds of beliefs shared by Nye, who became popular in the 1990s for hosting a children's television show called "Bill Nye The Science Guy."

Nye was previously interviewed by Marc Morano, the founder of climate change skeptic website Climate Depot, for the upcoming film "Climate Hustle," which seeks to document the history of views on climate change.

How to Find Balance in Your Life

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 12:00 AM PDT

By D. Scott Trettenero

Much has been written and discussed about how balance in life will help us be happier and healthier. It is easy to notice when one's life is out of balance with feelings of distress, anxiety, and uneasiness. Being in total balance is a goal that may never be obtainable as life is always changing and full of surprises.

Life seems to be a juggling act of its many different aspects.

To strive for the best balance possible, it is important to know what to balance. Life is full of contradictions and we are sometimes forced to manage situations that are not comfortable for us.

Dr. Robert Quinn of University of Michigan Business School gives us a description of these contradictions with his Competing Values Model that he applies to business and leadership. He says that we must juggle certain opposite and conflicting aspects of life to be successful. If we apply his model to our everyday life, we can better understand what the important areas are that we must concentrate on to create our balance.

• Healthy Relationships: We all have a need and a desire for healthy and respectful relationships. Relationships are our connection to others and help to create feelings of belonging, camaraderie, and ultimately love. Giving of ourselves creates a goodwill that attracts others to us.
• Meaningful Work: Work is an environment where we can use our given or learned talents in a way that creates value for services needed or wanted by others. If one is passionate about their work, it can become a part of one's identity. The more value we can create, the more rewards we can earn.
• Adequate Recreation: Recreation is a time to relax, recuperate, and enjoy ourselves. We can recharge our batteries and let go of our burdens. All work and no play can make us one dimensional. Recreation can broaden our interests and capabilities.
• Self-Time: This is something that is much needed for a multitude of reasons. We all need time for introspection, reflection, and the space to create new perceptions of how we are living. This is also a time for exercise, reading, learning, and meditation. We need some time for working on our body, mind and spirit.

As we get out of balance in any of these areas of life, we will want to devote more time and energy to them to regain our balance. One thing to notice about these different aspects of life is that they are in opposition to each other. Work is the opposite of play and relationships are the opposite of self-time. We all might have an area of life that we are stronger in by our natures and our temperaments. The area we will be weakest in might be the one opposing it.

Working toward balance will help us not only to be more centered and grounded, but to become more and better rounded. We can all use more of that.

How To Build Authentic Character In Youth Sports

Posted: 18 Apr 2016 11:00 PM PDT

Not everyone deserves a trophy.

In fact, unearned rewards can be harmful, because artificially inflating a child's self-esteem merely for participation in sport sends the wrong message, warns psychologist Jason Richardson.

"There are plenty of incarcerated felons with an inflated self-view and there are extremely successful people grappling with a more moderate self-concept, so self-esteem alone is not the measure by which we should prepare our children for greatness," says Richardson, a Pan-Am Games gold medalist who is also known as "Dr. JRich" among colleagues.

Richardson isn't alone. Last year, Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker James Harrison returned two participation trophies given to his two sons, awarded not for a specific victory that they'd earned, but simply for being student-athletes.

Anyone can give and get a trophy, but the true value of youth sports is in the occasional tough lessons – and successes – children experience through hard work and merit, says Richardson, author of "It's All BS! We're All Wrong, And You're All Right!" (www.drjasonrichardson.com).

He offers practical tips parents can share with their kids.

• Stop saying "the problem is …" Fill in the blank. Too many people say the problem is with the coach, the school, the other kids, the equipment, the schedule – and so on. This kind of thinking implies failure because it immediately rules out your child's goals. Instead, say things that rule in positive outcomes, such as, "I/We/You can do this!"
• Make failure a teachable moment. Sports can test a kid's emotional fragility. They may want to give up with failure, but that's a terrible lesson. If your child missed a free throw that would've won the team the game, encourage free-throw practice the next day. Better yet, ask them what they are going to do differently next time! Use a coach's staple: remind your child that Michael Jordan was cut by his high school basketball team during his sophomore year. Parents can always reward persistence and effort.
• Don't let your child's ego run wild. The flipside of low self-esteem due to failure can be cockiness with success. Children have far less experience keeping the ego in check, so if he/she is the best athlete in school, they may become arrogant. Try to catch this early; people evolve at different rates. Temper their ego by showing examples of humility, respect and gratitude. Use examples of great athletes who have overcome slumps or adversity.
• Show them how to be a better student. It may seem odd that a star quarterback can memorize every detail of a complex playbook, but has trouble with class studies. If he's having trouble with chemistry, for example, place the playbook next to the textbook and show him the parallels of complexity. Don't let him believe he's "just a jock."
