Senate Dems block consideration of major 'Phase 3' aid bill

The GOP-controlled Senate on Sunday failed to move forward with considering the $1.4 trillion "Phase Three" stimulus package intended to help businesses and families devastated by the downturn over the coronavirus outbreak, as Senate Majority Leader McConnell, R-Ky., blasted Democrats opposed to the plan.

The vote came while at least five GOP senators were in self-quarantine, including Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., who became the first U.S. senator to announce he tested positive for the virus. Senators were asked to practice social distancing and were given a list of health guidelines to follow while entering the chamber.

After the bill failed to move forward, McConnell tore into Democrats, accusing them of backing out of a bipartisan agreement once Pelosi and Schumer intervened.

"The build-up to this is that we had a high level of bipartisanship over the last 48 hours... And then, all of a sudden, the Democratic leader and the speaker of the House shows up...and we're back to square one," he said, referring to Schumer and Pelosi. "I want everybody to understand that if we aren't able to act tomorrow, it's because of our colleagues on the other side, continue to dicker."

He then accused Pelosi of overstepping boundaries, saying: "She's the speaker of the House, not the speaker of the Senate."

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) — Delaware Gov. John Carney has issued a stay-at-home order as the number of coronavirus cases in the state rose to 56 with 11 new cases announced Sunday. The order will go into effect at 8 a.m. Tuesday and remain active until May 15 or when the public health threat is lifted.

Carney is also ordering all nonessential businesses to close. For a full list of nonessential businesses, click here.

Officials say six people are hospitalized with three critically ill.

There are 39 COVID-19 cases in New Castle County, five in Kent County and 12 in Sussex County. Officials say the patients' ages range from 14 to 80, with 30 males and 26 females.

Louisiana, Ohio issue orders for citizens to stay at home

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) and Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) on Sunday announced their states will be the latest to order most citizens to remain in their homes to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

"In Louisiana we have taken aggressive measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and flatten the curve; however, this is not enough. As our number of cases continue to grow, I am directing all Louisianans to stay at home unless it is absolutely necessary for you to leave," Edwards said in a statement.

"People can leave their homes to do essential things like buying groceries or food, pick up medicine or go to work only if their job is essential. If you have to go out, make sure you practice social distancing measures and keep 6 feet between you and the people around you. People are encouraged to go outside and to stay active during this time, as long as they practice social distancing when they are around their neighbors," Edwards added.

Florida College Students Test Positive for Coronavirus After Spring Break Trip

Five college students from the University of Tampa tested positive for the coronavirus after coming back from a spring break trip, the school announced.

WFLA reported that the students were traveling together with other University of Tampa students before testing positive. The school did not state where the students went during their break or whether they lived in the dorms or off-campus.

Beach and Boardwalk Closed, Mayor & City Council Urge Visitors to Stay Home

Ocean City, Maryland – (March 22, 2020): As confirmed cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) increase throughout the State of Maryland, and in Worcester County, the Mayor and City Council continue to encourage visitors to stay safe and stay home. Policy leaders met today, March 22, for an emergency meeting which resulted in the closure of Ocean City's beach and Boardwalk.

Effective at 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2020, the beach and Boardwalk in Ocean City will be closed due to the rapid spread of COVID-19. This closure will remain in effect thru April 15, 2020, at which time it will be re-evaluated based on the status of the global health crisis. Restaurants on the Boardwalk will be allowed to remain open for carry out service only.

"The number one priority of the Mayor and City Council is to protect our citizens and employees," stated Mayor Rick Meehan. "We are facing an invisible threat and we are the carriers of this potentially deadly virus. At this time, we continue to request that visitors postpone traveling to Ocean City and that our non-resident property owners reframe from traveling to Ocean City as well. The safest place for everyone right now is in their own home."

Only residents who reside within the corporate limits of the Town of Ocean will be allowed to walk their dogs or exercise on the beach or Boardwalk in groups of no more than two adults and children at any time. Social distancing will remain a requirement. This will remain in effect until which time it is abused or ignored.

"We are doing everything in our power to protect the health and safety of our citizens, but everyone has a critical role to play," Mayor Meehan continued. "We all have to work together to do whatever we can to mount our only known defense against this common enemy and that is to practice extreme measures of social distancing. We are taking these drastic steps to shorten the duration of this health crisis. If every single person steps up and does their part by making sacrifices now it will slow the spread of this virus and help us flatten the curve."

WASHINGTON — Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said Friday that Americans will most likely have to continue staying at home and practicing social distancing for "at least several weeks" amid thecoronavirus outbreak.

Locking down the country would reduce infections and allow time for massive testing. There will be staggering human and economic costs if we delay.

I am an MIT-trained physicist and complexity scientist who studies pandemics. I have warned about global pandemics due to increasing travel for 15 years. I recommended community based monitoring of symptoms to stop Ebola in West Africa in 2014, and it worked. The fastest and even the only way to contain COVID-19 in the United States is a five-week national lockdown.

Closing schools, bars and movie theaters are good measures, but not enough. Our relaxed approach to social distancing is insufficient to stop the exponential growth of COVID-19. Until Americans consistently adopt strong social distancing recommendations — a lockdown — the disease will continue to spread exponentially.

During a five-week national lockdown, federal, state and local authorities would ensure that all Americans stay home except to obtain food and other essentials, access medical care, or do work essential to the functioning of society. Travel would cease: We would close our borders and airports and prohibit all unnecessary travel across state and county (or town) lines within the United States. The U.S. government would have to provide aid to citizens separated from their sources of income and ensure care for vulnerable members of society.

Good morning Joe,

I am sure with everything going on in our community as this corona virus seems to get worse and worse that you have also been out shopping. I thought it was so nice to see so many of our people out supporting small local business and finding what they need as well. I have been to many stores looking for cheese and some other things. I found myself in a state of absolute disgust when I was at the deli at pecan square off of Nanticoke rd and they are selling a pack of hot dog buns for $5 and a gallon of bleach from Holt keep in mind for $12. Then have the nerve to put themselves on Facebook as they are helping the community... no they are hurting us right now. I am absolutely ashamed personally I will never spend another cent in the place but I feel the entire community needs to know that is the kind of people they are at the deli at pecan square. Just wanted to pass on this small bit of information. I have seen some other people posting on Facebook about it as well so I am not the only person that noticed. Thank you and please stay safe in this time of need.

Maryland to Shut Down Restaurants, Bars Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

Maryland will shut down all bars, restaurants, movie theaters and gyms at 5 p.m. Monday to stop the spread of coronavirus, the governor says.

The state will also ban all gatherings of more than 50 people, Gov. Larry Hogan said.

Restaurants can offer carryout and drive-thru service.

Ladies & Gentlemen, As you know I published a story this morning, (below) that suggests we as a country may need to prepare for a complete shut down in the United States. I purposely titled it, This is what I'm hearing. 

I want all of you to understand something very important. I have been withholding inside information for a good two weeks now as to not panic anyone. For those of you who have spoken to me over the phone and or in person can confirm I have been 100% accurate on every step of the way. I've even amazed some people with the information that has come to fruition. 

That being said, my article is a WARNING! You can debunk it all you want, most everything in that article is accurate. For those of you who want to claim they're coming up with a solution drug to reverse the Coronavirus, it would take 12 to 16 months to produce it. 

We are 3 weeks behind Italy and you have seen the devastation there. America will not sit around waiting for this virus to spread and a nation wide quarantine is a necessity. The ONLY way to go after this is to quarantine, period. It's ALL about the SPREAD of this virus. If we quarantine, (as inconvenient as it may be)  the virus cannot spread to the masses. There is NO other solution right now, so expect it to happen. 

President Trump is a genius. He's left it to each individual state Governor to decide what direction he/she feels is necessary, (for now).  You are seeing parts of this country already shutting down. It's only a matter of time for the rest of the country follows suit. 

What I'm hearing from my sources is that it could be within the next 24 to 48 hours the National Guard will step in. They are staged in Wicomico County. You read about Baltimore yesterday. My message to you today is, I have a duty to tell you what is going on. I am hearing from great sources we are looking at a shut down. I have shared this message and it is up to all of you to either prepare, OR NOT! It is your choice. Whether it happens within the next 24 to 48 hours, that is to be determined. 

I'll repeat. It's about the SPREAD of the virus. Let me also add, to those of you IDIOTS who want to compare flu deaths in the US to this virus, how can you people be so stupid. This virus is NEW, fools. There is NO comparison at this time. As for the daily numbers we are publishing testing positive, the tests results are taking up to three weeks to get results. They are so overwhelmed it is taking way too long to get results. Nevertheless, each day, (now that tests are being processed) you are seeing Maryland's number jump trough the roof. The spread of this virus needs to be stopped. 

With or without the President's direction, Governor Hogan needs to take the bull by the horn and quarantine Maryland residents. His foolish mistake over St. Patrick's Day weekend by not shutting down Ocean City was foolish. Yes, he did call the large bar owners and asked them to shut down, (one actually did) the bar owners defied his request and possibly thousands of people were exposed by a woman who ultimately tested positive. Now the Mayor of Ocean City is requesting no one come to Ocean City AFTER the fact. 

You people are treating this time off like it is a vacation. You are NOT taking it seriously and this is one of the key reasons I personally believe President Trump will insist on a complete shut down. It's not only the healthiest things to do, it's the right thing to do. 

One last thing. Put yourself in Trump's shoes. You take his place. HOW do you shut down and entire country. It takes a LOT of time to prepare for such a thing as massive as this is. So when you Idiots ask, why didn't he do this sooner? Well first off any president would't want to create such panic. Then there's figuring out how everyone is going to get food to survive, hospitals being prepared, nursing homes, equipment, looting, the list goes on and on. I personally believe President Trump has done an incredible job so far and I wouldn't wish this on ANY President. 

So take ALL of this information any way you like. I can tell you I have done my job. I have shared what I know and it is up to YOU to decide if you want to prepare or not. God Speed All Of You.

Talbot County Announces First Confirmed Case of COVID-19
Easton, MD – County Council President Corey Pack has announced that Talbot County will declare a local State of Emergency on Monday following the confirmation by Health Officer Dr. Fredia Wadley that the county has its first confirmed case of COVID-19 disease.
The patient has been hospitalized after coming into contact with a person in another county infected with the COVID-19 virus. When the Talbot County resident developed symptoms, they were tested and found to be positive for the virus.
"Staff from the Health Department are contacting those who have been exposed to this person and, if they have symptoms, we are asking them to take appropriate measures," says Dr. Fredia Wadley. "The proven public health method of managing the spread of such an infection is to identify cases and then isolate them and the people with whom they have had contact."
To support the Health Department's efforts in leading this response, Talbot County Emergency Services has activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC). This coalition of community partners is working together to coordinate the county's response and disseminate information about this public health crisis.
"We are in frequent contact with county and state officials and our private-sector partners," says Director of Emergency Services Clay Stamp. "We are reviewing plans and deciding the best course of action to keep the residents of Talbot County safe and informed."
The Talbot County EOC will be releasing information about the virus, including any new confirmed cases. Staff are currently posting information on the Talbot County Emergency Services website and on the DES Facebook page as it becomes available. The department also expects to launch a dedicated COVID-19 website this week that will summarize all of the county information and will allow hourly updates when indicated to keep residents informed.
"Our goal is to provide you with information that is timely, accurate, and credible," says Stamp. "As soon as new cases are confirmed, we will immediately update the website and our Facebook page to reflect the number of confirmed cases in our county."
Having a proven case of the virus in Talbot County of a person who has not traveled elevates official's concerns. Healthcare professionals stress that elderly people with chronic conditions and those with weakened immune systems should avoid crowds and people who are sick.
"This new development underscores the need for increased testing," says Dr. Wadley. "Anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms such as cough, fever, and shortness of breath should call their primary care physician immediately."
Talbot County government offices will be closed to the public effective Tuesday, March 17. All staff will report for duty as assigned and will be answering phone calls and emails.

Why do people dislike the police? Here's why.

For years I've tried to convince my husband to be fair in his estimation of the police, after all, it's their jobs to serve and protect and I personally had never had a negative experience with them. But time and time again I hear stories that show me how little respect officers have for the public and that's just the surface. My husband just spent 15 minutes helping direct traffic on Rt. 13 away from an accident that happened near our home. In doing so he was spit on and honked at by passersby. But my husband is one to help any time there is a need, stranger or friend, and he knew another accident would ensue if someone wasn't moving traffic away from the scene. Twenty minutes after the accident a city policeman arrived. Did the officer thank my husband? Did he speak to him with courtesy. The opposite. He barked at him and gave him orders to leave the scene. When good people like my husband are willing to help in a crisis and the police treat people them like dirt, I'm done defending the police. Maybe there are a few good ones out there, I do know of a few, but I am finally seeing that most of them are on a power trip. Public relations should be part of their training.

We were in the process of sharing a video that was posted on Facebook that has since been taken down. Here is what we know from watching the video. The women is originally from the Salisbury Area. She is currently living in Howard County. She was tested for the Coronavirus on Monday and was notified yesterday that her test were positive for having the Coronavirus. She was explaining how she felt. She said it started almost like allergies. She woke up Monday with a headache and really bad sore throat. She said she thought the sore throat could have been all the screaming she did on Sunday while she was at Seacrets on Sunday.

Reiterates That Failure to Follow Order Prohibiting Mass Gatherings Is a Crime, And Will Be Enforced If Businesses Fail to Comply

ANNAPOLIS, MD—In light of the serious public health emergency created by the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Hogan has issued an emergency order to close all Maryland casinos, racetracks, and simulcast betting facilities to the general public indefinitely."This situation continues to evolve and will escalate rapidly and dramatically," said Governor Hogan. "These are unprecedented actions in an extraordinary situation, but they could be the difference in saving lives and keeping people safe."

The following properties are affected by the governor's emergency order, which takes effect at midnight on Monday, March 16, 2020 and will remain in effect until the state of emergency has been terminated or until superseded by other orders:

  • Horseshoe Casino Baltimore
  • Hollywood Casino Perryville
  • Ocean Downs Casino

Additionally, Governor Hogan reiterated that failure to follow his order prohibiting large gatherings is a crime, and will be enforced if businesses fail to comply.

"It is critical to public health and safety that bars, restaurants, and other businesses across the state comply with the law," said Governor Hogan. "Anyone who hosts or is part of the crowds in bars this weekend is jeopardizing the health of others and must avoid any contact with family members or friends over the age of 60 or those with underlying health conditions."

Reports: 4 US senators dumped stocks before coronavirus market crash

WASHINGTON — Four U.S. senators reportedly sold off millions of dollars in stock combined prior to the market crash from the coronavirus pandemic, according to multiple independent reports. They are Sens. Richard Burr, R-NC, Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., Kelly Loeffler, R-Ga., and James Inhofe, R-Okla.

Burr, the chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, dumped more than $1 million of stock after reassuring the public about officials' response to what's now the coronavirus pandemic.

The selloff by the Republican senator from North Carolina came around the time he and the committee were getting daily briefs on the threat of the new virus, news outlets reported.

Just wondering when the world is going to wake up to the fact that whether it's swine flu, sars, corona virus (all from china) or some other disease, when are the citizens of the countries impacted going to demand reparations from the Chinese government? To the political class and the business community that sold our American dream down the river for a cheap buck! Was it worth it?

Maybe now people will realize that having all our manufacturing and production of drugs along with everything from the chicomms ain't such a good idea.

Sars was documented having escaped out of their bio labs on many different occasions. Until they let the worlds scientist in to prover otherwise the commie bastards should be held accountable! This isn't the first time something like this has happened and it won't be the last. The communist must be held accountable by the world. We've seen their own citizens are unable to do the job! Senate GOP unveils $1,200 direct cash payments in massive stimulus proposal

Senate Republicans on Thursday announced a $1 trillion stimulus plan to combat the economic damage caused by the effort to control the coronavirus.

The measure includes a plan to send $1,200 checks to individuals and $2,400 to couples earning below a certain income to help them survive the economic impact and layoffs caused by the coronavirus.

It also would provide a cash infusion for small businesses, the airline industry, and healthcare providers scrambling to test and treat patients afflicted with the virus.

"This legislation takes bold action on four major priorities that are extremely urgent and very necessary," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, said before introducing the measure Thursday.

Community Rallies For Meal Pickups During School Closures

BERLIN – Local businesses, organizations and churches are spearheading efforts to ensure no child goes hungry while schools are closed amid the coronavirus pandemic.

When Governor Larry Hogan announced last week that all Maryland public schools would close from March 16 to March 27 to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), members of the community began mobilizing support to ensure students that typically benefit from school meal programs continued to receive food.

Within hours of Hogan's press conference, for example, Baked Dessert Cafe owner Robin Tomaselli and her staff launched an initiative to provide free food to students in need during the two-week closure.

"Many people don't know that some students rely on school programs for breakfast, lunch and dinner …," she said. "Our knee-jerk reaction was to do something to help."

That effort, however, quickly grew. And by the next morning, Tomaselli said she was inundated with offers of help and messages from those wishing to donate nonperishable items.

"The response has been completely overwhelming …," she said. "Our community has been generous and kind."

Now, the caf̩ is working with several community partners Рincluding SonRise Church, the Greater Ocean City Chamber of Commerce, Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department, The Iron Horse, Boxcar 40, Willards Lions Club and Uncle Willies Рto collect and distribute nonperishable items to students in need.

How far are we going to take this chaos?

A customer service representative (some grouchy chick with a medical boot on) in Acme decided to berate me for being in the store during "senior hours ".

Can Acme please define what a "senior" is, because I am over 60 and have underlying medical issues, so I always shop as early as possible to avoid crowds.
I also shop for my 86+ year old parents, and try to minimize their exposure by what I am bringing into their home.

If the only time I can go to the store because of my circumstances is 7AM, am I no longer allowed to shop and should starve to death, because of some judgmental wayward employee is going to harass me? Why do they wait until we are in the store, shouldn't they be checking ID's at the door?

Is this what we have come to? Few people are in the store at 6-7AM. Is my presence really that threatening? And who's to say one of those other seniors isn't already a carrier?

Someone over there at Acme needs to get a grip, get their facts straight and quit harassing customers without proof.

There are many of us who live in Ocean City who just can't understand what the heck is going on. Perhaps one of you can provide the answer.

Over the past few weeks they have been scraping the humps to flatten them out. Then a week later they ground out those sections that were scraped and put blacktop pavement, (as seen above) in its place. 

Now they are completely scraping out the entire roadway to prepare for new pavement. The question is, WHY did they go through all that trouble to repair the humps only to come back two weeks later to tear it all out again? Inquiring minds want to know.

FIRST POSITIVE COVID-19 CASE CONFIRMED IN WICOMICO COUNTY 3-19-2020

(March 19, 2020, Salisbury, MD) The Wicomico County Health Department received notification that a Wicomico County resident tested positive for COVID-19.  This is the first confirmed case in Wicomico County.
                The man, in his 30s, has a travel history outside the U.S. He is in good condition and is isolating at home. The health department is investigating this case with the help of the Maryland Department of Health. Communicable Disease nurses will identify contacts and advise them of any necessary actions to take. The health department will share information, as soon as possible, if any risk to the public is identified.  
The Wicomico County Health Department continues to operate its COVID-19 Call Center. Wicomico County residents can contact the call center at (410) 341-4600, Monday through Sunday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Although the call center cannot share any additional details about confirmed cases, they can help answer residents' questions.
The health department strongly urges the public to take all possible precautions to help prevent the spread of this virus.  Take these everyday steps to help protect yourself and the community:
·         Wash your hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds
·         Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available
·         Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue, your sleeve or your elbow
·         Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
·         Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using standard cleaning practices

The U.S. Government Is Preparing For An 18 Month Pandemic And "Critical Shortages"

A federal government plan to combat the coronavirus warned policymakers last week that a pandemic "will last 18 months or longer" and could include "multiple waves," resulting in widespread shortages that would strain consumers and the nation's health care system.

The 100-page plan, dated Friday, the same day President Trump declared a national emergency, laid out a grim prognosis for the spread of the virus and outlined a response that would activate agencies across the government and potentially employ special presidential powers to mobilize the private sector.
I can't even imagine what our country would look like if current conditions stretched into the middle of 2021.

As a nation, I don't believe that we would be able to handle it.

Washington — President Trump said the coronavirus outbreak could last into the summer, perhaps as long as August, an indication that the widespread nationwide slowdown in response to the virus is just beginning. Mr. Trump also didn't rule out further quarantines or curfews in the future, as he rolled out new 15-day guidelines for everyday American life.

"They think August, it could be July," he said at a press briefing Monday, referring to members of the White House task force. "Could be longer than that. But I've asked that question many, many times."

Mr. Trump also admitted that the country "may be" entering a recession, as financial markets closed out one their worst days in history while the president and his team spoke. The president issued new guidelines for how the country can slow the spread of the virus, suggesting bars and restaurants close in states with evidence of community transition and calling on governors to close schools in areas with evidence of its spread.

NEW: 57 Confirmed COVID-19 Cases in Maryland 3-17-2020

BALTIMORE (WBFF)-- New Numbers, Tuesday morning, show that at least 57 people in Maryland are confirmed to have the Coronavirus.

Today's daily count from the State Health Dept shows that Maryland added 20 COVID-19 cases since yesterday. This is the biggest one-day jump to date: 54%.

Governor Larry Hogan spoke outside of the Governor's Mansion Tuesday. He said he issued a proclamation to postpone the election until June 2nd.

SCHOOLS MUST STAY OPEN DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC

One million children are closed off from Maryland's public schools because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Administrators must not exploit this crisis to give themselves a taxpayer-funded vacation.

State Superintendent Karen Salmon directed administrators, teachers, and staff "to immediately prepare for and to put into place measures for the continuity of educational services during a prolonged period of school closure."

It's the 21st century. Schools can keep teaching thanks to the internet, even when facilities are shuttered. At a minimum, teachers should continue their lesson plans by uploading daily lectures to YouTube and emailing homework.

During the briefing, President Donald Trump took questions from reporters and was asked why the United States was "not more prepared for testing" presumably at the beginning of the outbreak of the coronavirus.

President Trump explained on Thursday that COVID-19 "could have been stopped pretty easily if everybody had known about it a number of months" earlier, had China made it public to the world.

"The whole world is suffering because of it," said the Commander in Chief.

Rubin made her pronouncement on MSNBC's "AM Joy," during which host Joy Reid pointed to a Post analysis piece titled, "Older Americans are more worried about coronavirus — unless they're Republican."

"Trump's own people are actually in greater danger, but those of us who live in this Earth can't even reach them," Reid told Rubin. "They're not listening to anything that any of us say, including someone like you who's a former Republican. You can't reach them."

Maryland General Assembly Passes Kirwan Commission Education Funding Plan

The Maryland General Assembly gave final approval Tuesday night to a far-reaching education measure aimed at improving K-12 education throughout the state.

The House of Delegates voted 96-38 Tuesday night, sending the legislation to Gov. Larry Hogan, who has vowed to oppose tax increases to pay for the plan projected to cost billions of dollars over the next decade.

Supporters say the legislation is needed because Maryland students are falling behind.

"We are failing kids," said Del. Eric Luedtke, a Montgomery County Democrat and a former teacher. "Half of them are not career and college ready."

China Instructs U.S. to ‘Correct Its Mistakes’ and Think Proper Thoughts

China censured the U.S. Wednesday for its "incorrect" characterization of the global coronavirus pandemic as Chinese in origin as it re-asserted the "right" to expel three American newspaper journalists and bar them even from working in nearby Hong Kong.

Beijing's foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang delivered a series of instructions for the U.S. from the Communist state at a regular press briefing, saying it would not hesitate to take further action against U.S. media and journalists in China if the United States did not "correct its mistakes."

"The U.S. has said that all options are on the table. Today, I can also tell the U.S. that all options are on the table for China," Geng said.

"Some U.S. political figures have recently been connecting the coronavirus with China," Geng warned. "We express strong indignation and objection to such stigmatization."

The official Chinese spokesman said describing the coronavirus as Chinese violates principles set out by various international agencies, although he declined to name them or point to their direct warning against ever publicly criticizing Communist China.

Thousands of U.S. college students are openly defying warnings from government officials at the highest levels by making the trip to Florida to celebrate spring break.

Gun Sales Surging as Citizens React to Possibility of Civil Unrest over Coronavirus

The Los Angeles Times reports that gun stores are one aspect of the economy seeing a surge in business as Californians react to coronavirus news.

According to the LA Times, the line of customers at the Martin B. Retting Gun Shop in Culver City stretched out the front door and around the block on Saturday. Many of those in line waited five hours for their opportunity to buy a gun.

A doctor who wanted to buy a gun at the store said, "I want to buy a handgun, I think they call it a Glock, but I'm not sure. I have a house and a family, and they'll need protection if things get worse. The fear is that civil services will break down."

Another customer, 39-year-old John Grove, said, "Politicians and anti-gun people have been telling us for the longest time that we don't need guns. But right now, a lot of people are truly scared, and they can make that decision themselves."

Groceries began reappearing on American store shelves this week, thanks to the strength of a supply chain that includes farmers, distributors, wholesalers, and retailers — all of whom are literally risking their lives to stay on duty.

A crucial part of that supply chain is the American trucker, who makes sure that goods are delivered in a timely fashion. That is always the case, but it is especially true in the sudden global emergency we face today.

The U.S. Census Bureau reported last year that 3.5 million Americans are employed as truck drivers. Many work long hours, and a disproportionate number of them are military veterans.

They are on the front lines once again.

Baltimore State’s Attorney Mosby to stop prosecuting drug possession, prostitution, other crimes amid coronavirus

Baltimore State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby ordered her staff Wednesday to drop all pending criminal charges against anyone arrested for drug possession, attempted distribution, prostitution, trespassing, minor traffic offenses, open container, and urinating in public.

Mosby said she is taking the action in an effort to reduce the threat of a coronavirus outbreak behind bars. These crimes pose no risk to public safety and the defendants would be released before trial in normal conditions, she wrote in a memo to prosecutors.

"An outbreak in prison or jails could potentially be catastrophic," she wrote them. "Now is not the time for a piecemeal approach where we go into court and argue one one by one for the release of at-risk individuals."

Wicomico County Executive issues a Declaration of Emergency for COVID-19 3-16-2020

County Executive Bob Culver has issued a Declaration of Emergency effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at 8:00 am local time. This is due to the public health catastrophe and public emergency as cited in the Governor of Maryland's Declaration of Emergency issued on March 5, 2020.

This declaration provides additional powers and resources to our County Departments to deal with the COVID-19 situation. The Wicomico County Health Department is the lead agency in this emergency and is supported by all county departments under the coordination of the Department of Emergency Services.

In addition to the items listed in the declaration, the County Executive has made the following changes in county government operations to protect the public and employees and to reduce the threat of further spread of the COVID-19 virus.

All county departments will operate with essential staff only. All county offices will be closed to the public including the Civic Center and Tourism-Welcome Center, effective, Monday, March 16, 2020 at 5:00 pm. The government office building will have drop off bins located in the main first floor foyer to drop off mail and other essential documents for county staff.

The Newland Park Landfill and convenience centers will remain open normal hours to allow for trash removal to continue. The Upper Ferry and Whitehaven Ferry will be closed.

The County Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at 10:00 am. This will be broadcast as usual on PAC-14. The public may send meeting comments to Laura Hurley, Council Administrator at lhurley@wicomicocounty.org

Troopers Arrest Two Females for Aggravated Menacing-Millsboro

Millsboro-  The Delaware State Police have arrested 39-year-old Erica M. Parks of Dagsboro, DE and 36-year-old Crysta D. Adkins of Dover, DE for aggravated menacing and related charges.
On March 15, 2020 at approximately 5:09 p.m., Troopers were dispatched to the 20000 block of Laurel Road, Millsboro, in reference to a domestic in progress.  Upon arrival, Troopers learned that Parks and her friend Adkins had responded to the residence and engaged in an argument with Parks' husband, a 40-year-old male.  The argument turned physical and Parks proceeded to strike the victim with a ratchet.  Adkins then proceeded to threaten the victim with a knife.  The two females continued to grab the victim and scratch him prior to fleeing the area in a gray Dodge Challenger.  The victim sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment.
The vehicle was observed traveling on Main Street and a traffic stop was initiated.  Parks and Adkins were taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 4 where they were charged with the following:
Erica M. Parks:
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
  •  Aggravated Menacing
  •  Assault Third Degree
  •  Offensive Touching
Parks was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on $22000.00 unsecured bond.
Crysta Adkins:
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
  •  Aggravated Menacing
  • Conspiracy Second Degree
  •  Assault Third Degree
  •  Offensive Touching
Adkins was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on $27000.00 unsecured bond.

GE conducted a poll on our laundry habits in 2018.

Of those polled, 50% said they use their bath towel at least five times before washing it. Their philosophy: "I'm clean when I use it."

If you fall into this category — or are in the 14% of people who only wash their towels after eight uses — here's what you need to know.

Dr. Charles Gerba, a microbiologist, told Time: "After about two days, if you dry your face on a hand towel, you're probably getting more E. coli on your face than if you stuck your head in a toilet and flushed it."
