| Experts Say The U.S. Needs A National Shutdown ASAP — But Differ On What Comes Next Posted: 29 Mar 2020 10:00 PM PDT As coronavirus infections rise across the United States, public health experts widely agree it's time for a drastic step: Every state in the nation should now issue the kind of stay-at-home orders first adopted by the hardest-hit places. And while most states will probably not need to keep the rules in place for months upon months, many health specialists say the lockdowns will need to be kept up for several weeks. Yet among these same experts, there is debate when it comes to the natural next question: What strategy can be deployed after the lockdowns are lifted? Here's the breakdown of what health experts are saying about each issue. The arguments for enacting a lockdown We'll start with the call for a nationwide lockdown. On this point, "there is no question about it," says Juliette Kayyem, a former assistant secretary of homeland security who is now faculty chair of the homeland security program at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. | U.S. could see millions of coronavirus cases and 100,000 or more deaths, Fauci says Posted: 29 Mar 2020 01:22 PM PDT Washington (CNN) The nation's top infectious disease expert said Sunday that based on models, the United States could eventually see 100,000 or more deaths from the novel coronavirus, which has already claimed more than 2,000 American lives as cases surge across the US. "Whenever the models come in, they give a worst-case scenario and a best-case scenario. Generally, the reality is somewhere in the middle. I've never seen a model of the diseases that I've dealt with where the worst case actually came out. They always overshoot," Dr. Anthony Fauci, a key member of the White House's coronavirus task force, told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union." "I mean, looking at what we're seeing now, you know, I would say between 100 and 200,000 (deaths). But I don't want to be held to that," he said, adding that the US is going to have "millions of cases." The comments come as the number of reported coronavirus deaths doubled to more than 2,000 nationwide in two days. The US has the most confirmed cases worldwide, with more than 121,000 as of Saturday morning.  |
| City of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Posted: 29 Mar 2020 12:37 PM PDT  All residents of the City of Rehoboth Beach have been urged to shelter in place, to stay at home and not leave your houses unless absolutely necessary as confirmed cases of the disease continue to rise daily. As reported just a few hours ago by the Delaware Division of Public Health there have been 214 total laboratory-confirmed cases in the state since March 11 and 59 of these are from Sussex County. The total number of positive cases represents a cumulative total since the pandemic began. We continue to urge all second homeowners in the City to heed warnings and ask everyone to think of your neighbors and your families, and to protect your own health by sheltering in your primary homes. This is a pandemic. In a small community like ours, hospitals do not have the beds and staff for the growing number of COVID-19 cases that could affect our City. Please consider the impacts of potentially and unknowingly being a carrier of the virus and possibly infecting others. Please consider coming to your second home when circumstances improve. Our primary goal is public safety for all! Nothing is more important at this time than doing everything we can to 'flatten the curve' and slow the spread of COVID-19 so that our health care system is not overwhelmed. The Chairmen of the Governors Association and Maryland governor spoke on Fox News Sunday about the coronavirus pandemic and some of the messaging coming out of the White House President Donald Trump said last week that some of the social distancing measures will be able to be relaxed soon, and life could be going back to normal, possibly even by Easter. Gov. Hogan spoke on CNN's New Day show later that week, saying that some of the messaging coming out of the White House is "pretty confusing.", adding his team didn't believe cases have reached their peak yet in the state. | Maryland Man Arrested for Having 60 People Over for Bonfire, Violating Social Distancing Orders Posted: 29 Mar 2020 06:48 AM PDT A Charles County, Maryland, man who threw a party at his house has unintentionally social-distanced himself from everyone after authorities say he was arrested for refusing to comply with the governor's order against large gatherings. Shawn Marshall Myers, 41, was arrested Friday night after officers found about 60 people hanging out around a bonfire at his home in Hughesville, the Charles County Sheriff's Office said. The sheriff's office said it was the second time Myers had hosted a large gathering since Gov. Larry Hogan's emergency order banning gatherings of more than 10 people went into effect. | Posted: 29 Mar 2020 05:49 AM PDT Now More Than 2,000 Cases In The National Capital Region ANNAPOLIS, MD — State officials tonight, in coordination with the Carroll County Health Department, announced an outbreak of COVID-19 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Mount Airy, where a total of 66 residents have tested positive, with 11 currently hospitalized. Earlier this evening, the Maryland Department of Health announced five additional deaths as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing the state's total to 10 deaths. Governor Larry Hogan issued the following update to Marylanders: "It took nearly three weeks for the National Capital Region to go from 0 to 1,000 cases of COVID-19. It took three days for the region to go from 1,000 to 2,000 cases in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. This is a rapidly evolving and escalating emergency which is now surrounding the nation's capital. "The number of deaths in our state as a result of COVID-19 has doubled. We have lost 10 of our fellow Marylanders, and we mourn each and every one of them. "Tonight, Maryland has experienced a tragic coronavirus outbreak at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Mount Airy. Multiple state agencies are on the scene and working closely with the local health department and the facility as they take urgent steps to protect additional residents and staff who may have been exposed. "I want to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and first responders all across our state who are working around the clock to respond to this pandemic. I thought it was so nice to see so many of our people out supporting small local business and finding what they need as well. I have been to many stores looking for cheese and some other things. I found myself in a state of absolute disgust when I was at the deli at pecan square off of Nanticoke rd and they are selling a pack of hot dog buns for $5 and a gallon of bleach from Holt keep in mind for $12. Then have the nerve to put themselves on Facebook as they are helping the community... no they are hurting us right now. I am absolutely ashamed personally I will never spend another cent in the place but I feel the entire community needs to know that is the kind of people they are at the deli at pecan square. Just wanted to pass on this small bit of information. I have seen some other people posting on Facebook about it as well so I am not the only person that noticed. Thank you and please stay safe in this time of need.  |

A case of 6 gallons of bleach (the only way Holt sells them) is $16.80 so we are talking $2.80 a gallon and they are selling for $11.99!! Try again with the lame ass excuses. You aren't helping us at all. They are hurting us and we do not need any businesses like this in our community in those dire situation.  |

| Let's Look A Little Closer At Governor Hogan's Coronavirus Plan Posted: 29 Mar 2020 05:00 AM PDT  I've spoken to some people who have already attempted to file with unemployment and were allegedly rejected by their employer because they have NOT been terminated, they just don't have work at this time. Just imagine how much money the state will have to pony up for unemployment alone. The money Hogan stated yesterday set aside to help EMPLOYERS is practically NOTHING in the overall scope of the losses. I am shut down. Fortunately on my end we can afford to be closed, hence why we are NOT competing with other local businesses selling food and alcohol to go. However, don't think for a second we too aren't losing tens of thousands of dollars a month. I wish we could do more for other businesses but we are doing our part by remaining closed for now. Please don't take my losses wrong. I feel for ALL of the thousands of local people/employees currently out of work. Heck, I've even thought of opening a hand car wash just to give some people work. If you have any other ideas don't hesitate to mention them in comments. Many people are asking, will schools reopen. Here's what I think a LOT of you don't understand or haven't grasped. Today there are over 30,000 people infected in New York. While our numbers are much lower at this point, they should be, for now. However, all it takes is ONE kid, ONE teacher, ONE custodian and the virus spreads like there's no tomorrow. THINK, how often did our children come home with a cold, flu, lice and then WE got their symptoms. This virus is no joke. We learned yesterday that the virus lasted 17 days on a cruise ship. Scientists are still learning. Schools at this point have not been disinfected. We would be playing Russian Roulette with our children if they did in fact go back to school. STOP acting like this thing is over, it's NOT! Follow Italy and France. REMEMBER that we are three weeks behind them. We have a very long way to go before we can see some relief. We must keep our distance, (social distancing) in order to stay ahead of this virus. Hogan is doing his best to allow us to act like responsible adults by doing so but let's remember, 17 days it could last on a shopping cart handle. Up to two weeks before you feel symptoms, New Yorker's and other residents from other states coming here to break away from their infected areas coming to their secondary homes on the Shore. Again, we are a long way off from this thing going away. Wash your hands AND FACE regularly. We've been taught to cough/sneeze into our elbows. Don't forget that those germs bounce back into our faces. Everyone is talking about their hands, wash your face often as well. By the way, we cough into our elbows and then we're being told not to shake hands and instead elbow bump. DUH! The virus lasts longer in CLOTH. I look forward to your comments.  |
| Maryland Can't Afford To Shut Down Businesses & Puts Citizens At Risk Of Coronavirus Posted: 29 Mar 2020 05:00 AM PDT  Monday he shut down car dealerships, (sales departments) and Tuesday reneged and sent out the order to reopen car dealerships. Do you believe car dealerships are "essential"? It's all about the money and nothing else. Some of you are acting like it's no big deal. Some are saying their rights would be violated if Hogan ordered a shelter in place. Are you people watching other parts of the country. Are you reading the articles we are putting up here like the following, Millions could die and hospitals will be totally overwhelmed if America ends the coronavirus lockdown earlyThis virus is no joke. Granted, while many businesses have been shut down it will only slow down the spread. Rather then thinking we're on the Eastern Shore and we're nothing like New York or California, look at the per capita numbers instead. Look at the percentages AFTER our local Health Departments REOPEN and we start getting REAL numbers. My health/life is more important then ANY politician who claims everything is OK and so is yours. It is TRUE when you hear about the rumor of a Delaware businessman who tested positive for the virus who came to Ocean City yesterday and held a business meeting exposing locals who have now been quarantined and have now been tested for the virus. I tried explaining to everyone how this was very possible and now it has become a fact. So much for Delaware residents sheltering in place! This is nowhere near over. I will remain isolated until I am comfortable we are all in the clear. Governor Hogan can try to ease the minds of Maryland residents but I firmly believe his selfish speeches are hot air and he cannot be trusted. It's all about the almighty dollar. Car Dealerships are NOT essential and vehicles can easily be purchased on line and vehicles delivered right to your front door. We are ALL suffering as business people, big and small. Greed is what will kill people in the end. Hogan is as greedy as they get. My guess is that Hogan will continue to lift restrictions on businesses and spin it as if the Eastern Shore population is too small to have the same affect as other metropolitan areas. The big question now is, will you fall for his BS or will you continue to protect your family, friends, co workers and neighbors? Oh, let's not forget that it is the little people who are suffering the most, employees. Because of the major financial strain of being out of work, most people will be forced to go back to work without businesses disinfecting the work place.  |
| Wicomico Civic Center Facing ‘Revenue Challenges’ Posted: 29 Mar 2020 05:00 AM PDT SALISBURY – A shortfall in the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center budget highlighted a meeting with county officials last week. In an open work session last week, representatives with Wicomico County Recreation, Parks and Tourism met with the Wicomico County Council to discuss the fiscal year 2020 budget for the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center. "I'm here this morning to talk about some revenue challenges that we're facing at the civic center this year and how we anticipate a shortfall in this year's budget with respect to revenue," Recreation, Parks and Tourism Director Steve Miller said. Each year, the civic center – which operates under the umbrella of the county's recreation, parks and tourism department – receives appropriations from the county to fund salaries, benefits and other expenses and to balance the budget. This guy is a fool and risking the lives of millions of Marylander's, especially the elderly. As for the financial relief of businesses, the funding he's proposed wouldn't last a DAY in this state. It may sound like a lot of money to some but for those of us in business it's a joke. While we all appreciate the gesture, the businesses that will not survive these orders will not be able to reopen. I personally think this is a huge mistake.  |
