| Coronavirus Case Comfirmed On The Eastern Shore Posted: 15 Mar 2020 03:52 PM PDT The video will turn to the correct position in about 10 seconds FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 15, 2020 Talbot County Announces First Confirmed Case of COVID-19 Easton, MD – County Council President Corey Pack has announced that Talbot County will declare a local State of Emergency on Monday following the confirmation by Health Officer Dr. Fredia Wadley that the county has its first confirmed case of COVID-19 disease. The patient has been hospitalized after coming into contact with a person in another county infected with the COVID-19 virus. When the Talbot County resident developed symptoms, they were tested and found to be positive for the virus. "Staff from the Health Department are contacting those who have been exposed to this person and, if they have symptoms, we are asking them to take appropriate measures," says Dr. Fredia Wadley. "The proven public health method of managing the spread of such an infection is to identify cases and then isolate them and the people with whom they have had contact." To support the Health Department's efforts in leading this response, Talbot County Emergency Services has activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC). This coalition of community partners is working together to coordinate the county's response and disseminate information about this public health crisis. "We are in frequent contact with county and state officials and our private-sector partners," says Director of Emergency Services Clay Stamp. "We are reviewing plans and deciding the best course of action to keep the residents of Talbot County safe and informed." The Talbot County EOC will be releasing information about the virus, including any new confirmed cases. Staff are currently posting information on the Talbot County Emergency Services website and on the DES Facebook page as it becomes available. The department also expects to launch a dedicated COVID-19 website this week that will summarize all of the county information and will allow hourly updates when indicated to keep residents informed. "Our goal is to provide you with information that is timely, accurate, and credible," says Stamp. "As soon as new cases are confirmed, we will immediately update the website and our Facebook page to reflect the number of confirmed cases in our county." Having a proven case of the virus in Talbot County of a person who has not traveled elevates official's concerns. Healthcare professionals stress that elderly people with chronic conditions and those with weakened immune systems should avoid crowds and people who are sick. "This new development underscores the need for increased testing," says Dr. Wadley. "Anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms such as cough, fever, and shortness of breath should call their primary care physician immediately." Talbot County government offices will be closed to the public effective Tuesday, March 17. All staff will report for duty as assigned and will be answering phone calls and emails. | Maryland Delegates To Move Forward With Removing Plastic Bags From Stores Posted: 15 Mar 2020 04:00 AM PDT  Carl informed me that they thought this one out a lot better then when they removed the Styrofoam containers. In the case of the plastic bags they are proposing paper bags as a replacement with NO FEE from the state. If the House and Senate pass this legislation it will go into effect in July of 2021. What many people don't realize is how difficult it is to separate these bags at the landfill. It has to be done manually and it is a huge expense across the state. It also gums up very expensive equipment and needless to say millions of these bags become airborne and pollute the environment.  So what's your thoughts on the state removing plastic bags from stores?  | ||

Effective immediately, we are implementing guidelines that will take effect in two steps. In the first step, starting today, we will limit meetings and large gatherings, encourage social distancing and remote learning, and prepare those who are able to telework. In accordance with guidance from the University System of Maryland, classes are canceled this Thursday-Friday, March 12-13, so faculty may prepare for remote (online) instruction. When preparing to leave for Spring Break, students should take with them all essential belongings, including medications and other materials, in case it should become necessary to implement step two of the guidelines, which may include restricting access to campus for an extended time. From March 23-April 3, instruction will be delivered online in courses for which this is possible. While we do not expect the campus to be closed during this period, we ask that students not return to campus until Saturday, April 4. | Troopers Arrest Delmar Man for Aggravated Menacing and Weapon Charges-Delmar Posted: 15 Mar 2020 04:01 AM PDT  On December 17, 2019, the Delaware State Police were made aware of an incident involving Ronald Brown. Further investigation revealed that the incident occurred on October 23, 2019 at Brown's residence located in the 14000 block of Whitesville Road, Delmar, DE. A 39-year-old male acquaintance of Brown's responded to his residence to retrieve money to complete mechanical work. As the victim entered Brown's residence, an argument over the amount of money ensued. Brown grabbed the victim and proceeded to display a handgun while threatening the victim. On March 9, 2020 a Sussex County Grand Jury indicted Ronald Brown for Aggravated Menacing and Possession of a Firearm during the commission of a Felony. On March 10, 2020 Brown turned himself in at Troop 4. He was arraigned before the Sussex County Superior Court and released on $20,000 unsecured bond. A no contact order was also issued with the victim in this case. There were 2 books that could have been classified Pro Trump . I confronted a man at the counter and told them they had sunk to a new low and this is ridiculous bias against our president in which he responded "Good and ran away to the back of the store) . I was there at least 20 more minutes and he never returned. I also noticed extreme bias for Obama and separate sections for Trevor Noah and Oprah Winfrey and of course none of president Trumps books were anywhere to be found nor any prominent authors with conservative views. Barnes and Noble should be boycotted by all Trump supporters until they at least make an effort to be fair . The Bias is extreme and sickening!            | ||
| A Viewer Writes......Corona virus - stupidest idea yet Posted: 15 Mar 2020 04:00 AM PDT  Why I think this is the STUPIDEST idea yet: 1) The students are apparently at little to no risk themselves from the virus, they either won't get it or will have mild to no symptoms (that is part of the problem) so there is no need to cancel classes to protect the students. 2) The students are not at risk BUT they pose a risk to others, however cancelling live classes does not mean the students go into hibernation or become hermits - NO - they go to the coffeehouses, libraries, public buildings and spaces. They pour out of the no-risk enclave of the college into the community. My niece reported that after live classes were cancelled at her NYC college there were huge parties on and off campus! So much for preventing gatherings where the virus could be spread! 3) Students are capable of spreading the virus to vulnerable folks -- old and/or ill folks. Those are the people who should be "cocooned", self-quarantined, in hibernation or otherwise protected. What should happen: Folks who are not in a high-risk group should go about their normal business, wash their hands frequently, stop buying up all the toilet paper, behave rationally, and check in (by phone) on their neighbors, friends, and relatives in high-risk groups. They should send their high-risk neighbors supplies as needed and provide (by phone) moral support and comfort. They should help monitor their high- risk neighbors' health and alert medical authorities if those folks seem to become ill. They should re-assure their high-risk neighbors that they can self-quarantine safely because they will not be forgotten or abandoned.  | ||

At a news conference Thursday afternoon, officials announced all public schools in the state will be closed next week and through Friday, March 27. School-sanctioned travel is also canceled. All schools and school buses will be cleaned during the two weeks without classes, officials said. Schools are being asked to use spring break days as make-up days. These efforts have resulted in record service reliability for customers and led to the company winning national residential and business customer satisfaction awards, according to Delmarva Spokesman Timothy Stokes. Patrick W. Carlineo Jr., 56, pleaded guilty in November 2019 to threatening to assault and murder a U.S. official, and to being a felon in possession of firearms. His charges carried up to 10 years in prison. Prosecutors said Carlineo admitted to calling Omar's office in Washington, D.C., in April 2019 and telling one of her staffers "I'll put a bullet in her (expletive) skull." | Maryland State Police Arrest Caroline County Woman On Child Sex Charges Posted: 15 Mar 2020 04:00 AM PDT  The suspect is identified as Brittney Lyles, 29, of Ridgley, Maryland. Lyles was arrested Friday following an investigation by State Police. She was charged with two counts of fourth-degree sex offense, sex abuse of a minor, contributing to certain conditions of a child, and other related offenses. She was taken before a District Court commissioner in Talbot County for a bond hearing and is being held without bond at the Talbot County Detention Center. An investigation into Lyles was initiated March 4 by the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division, Upper Shore Region. According to a preliminary investigation, the alleged offenses occurred in February 2020. Investigators have learned Lyles was working as a teacher at the Kent County Alternative School Program at the time of the alleged incidents. She is not an employee of Kent County Public Schools. According to the investigation, none of the alleged activities between Lyles and the victim, a 17-year-old male, occurred on school property. It is believed Lyles picked up the victim in her vehicle from an off campus location before taking him to another location where the offenses occurred. | Virginia bill that would allow removal of Confederate statues passes Legislature Posted: 15 Mar 2020 04:00 AM PDT Confederate statues in Virginia may soon be subject to removal after the Democratic-led state House and Senate passed legislation over the weekend that would undo a law that blocks the removal of public war memorials. The bill will now go to Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam, who has already indicated his support for localities having a final say on the issue. The legislation includes exceptions for cemeteries and the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, which has a statue of Confederate Gen. Stonewall Jackson. As most readers realize, the Conflict that tore at the very fabric of our country was fought for various economic reasons. Those who survived those horrific battles, Widows and Orphans used their meager incomes to erect these monuments to remind those who walk in the future, the great conflict that once existed. Democrats later formed the KKK and continued to destroy lives long after the war up to the 21st Century. Now progressive Democrats attempt to continue distraction by erasing this history; to keep most folks from learning of their evil desires on men and women. I'm in wonder why the Historic societies are not standing their ground in preserving this history. I also find it appalling we allow lawmakers LIKE HOGAN) to tear down these monuments. If progressive Law Makers can get away with this , than it will not be long before they disarm the population and enter your home upon their written laws. Lee Boyd Malvo, the baby-faced literal assassin who was found guilty for his role in killing 10 people and wounding three others in targeted long distances shootings in 2002, exchanged nuptials with a woman while he is serving life sentence in prison. Malvo, who was 17 when he and John Allen Muhammad — who was executed in 2009 — terrorized an entire region for nearly a month by using a high-powered rifle to kill people at random by shooting people from the back of their car, got married at the Red Onion State Prison in Virginia last week, the Washington Post reported. While the identity of Malvo's bride was not revealed, one of his lawyers told the Post that she is an "educated" and "very impressive young lady." Craig S. Cooley went on to say that he believes "they are soul mates. She sees the good and sees Lee as I've always seen him, and I think the world would have seen him had Muhammad not taken over his life." Walking through the crowd of hardhat donning employees while shaking hands and smiling for photos, Biden stopped abruptly to have a brief but tense and unpleasant encounter with one worker who wanted to discuss guns. The man questioned why Biden wanted to take his Second Amendment rights away which caused him to become immediately enraged as he began to shove his finger in the auto plant worker's face. The former vice president could be heard shouting at the man over the noise of the large crowd that he would "take the AR-14s away," before trying to move on quickly. This relatively young former congressional staffer has based his entire campaign on what he calls a poor voting record by "do-nothing" Harris. Particularly, the vote against H.R. 1327, the so-called 9/11 Victims Compensation fund, is Delgado's go-to talking point. In actuality, H.R. 1327 was a sixty year blank check being written to 600,000 people who rented or leased an apartment in lower Manhattan up to one year and three months after 9/11, not anyone who was a first responder or involved with the post-9/11 cleanup effort. Harris' vote against that pork barrel drew widespread bipartisan backlash, despite its pork barrel effect and overreaching the authority of congress. Congress already passed a bill for first responders that they review and renew every five years to ensure that the money is going where it is supposed to and being spent properly. Earlier today, the state reported its first case of community transmission. "This problem continues to evolve and will escalate rapidly and dramatically," said Governor Hogan. "For Marylanders, the actions I have announced here today will be disruptive to your everyday lives. They may seem extreme, and they may sound frightening. But they could be the difference in saving lives and keeping people safe."  (Watch) "It is impossible at this time to know how long this threat will continue," the governor continued. "What I do know is that my first and highest priority is protecting the health, the safety, and the welfare of the people of Maryland. We are all in this together, and we cannot stop the spread of this virus without each and every one of you doing your part. But I want you all to know that we will get through this together. Our state has already faced and overcome daunting challenges before, and we will do so again." Vanity Fair reports that Trump — a self-professed germaphobe — is "melting down over this." Perhaps not shockingly, he's focused on the media, in particular, one person close to the White House said. That reportedly includes him telling aides last week that he was concerned journalists would purposefully contract COVID-19 in an attempt to infect him on Air Force One. Another source painted an image more in line with Trump's public reaction to the virus, as well, telling Vanity Fair he reportedly wants the Justice Department to "open an investigation of the media for market manipulation" as he tries to stave off, or at least provide a more optimistic outlook for, the plummeting stock market.
