Virginia State Senator Warns Gun Owners About Rally: ‘We Are Being Set Up’

Posted: 19 Jan 2020 06:00 PM PST

Republican Virginia State Senator Amanda Chase issued a warning on Friday to the thousands of Second Amendment advocates who are planning to attend an upcoming massive pro-gun rally in Richmond, saying that they are "being set up."

The Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL) organized the event, which is being held on Monday, and "is traditionally known as 'Lobby Day' in Virginia's capital," WTOP reported. "Tens of thousands are expected to show up for the event Monday in Richmond. Given the contentious nature of the issue, the prospect of such a large event has raised tensions. Earlier, [Virginia Democrat Governor Ralph] Northam declared a state of emergency. And recent arrests have further raised those tensions."

In a Facebook post, Chase wrote: "Sadly, I am posting this, knowing that the Governor of Virginia has declared a State of Emergency in our state. I want you to be aware of how we are being set up. Does the Patriot Act ring a bell? Does the National Defense Authorization Act ring a bell?"

Miss Edna is About to Lose Her Home -- a tax sale tragedy in Wicomico County

Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:00 AM PST

Is it possible to buy a home for $268.13 and legally kick out a 74-year old woman from the home she has lived in for the last 26 years and who has nearly paid off the mortgage? Apparently yes, it's not only legal, but it is happening right here in Wicomico County. The staff in our office at Habitat for Humanity are sick about this situation but the fact is there are few resources to help older adults once they have become behind in their property taxes.

Keeping older adults safe in their homes should be a priority for the counties, cities, and municipalities. Can Wicomico County and Salisbury afford to deal with the alternative? Are the homeless shelters equipped for a senior tsunami? I don't think so. We need more than a conversation about this.

Here is Miss Edna's story. She gave me permission to share her experiences because she hopes the public can somehow help her and others in this unfortunate situation.

There's NOTHING Humane About The Wicomico Humane Society

Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:00 AM PST

While the above images are disturbing, things get a LOT worse. It used to be when a cat was brought in to the Humane Society it was kept for a good NINE days before they even considered euthanizing it. Then, under new management they recently dropped that down to SIX days. Well guess what, now they've decided to do so after THREE days. God forbid you are on vacation and someone let your cat out, it's now dead.

Well, if you think that's bad, get this! The Community Cat Coalition does an INCREDIBLE job volunteering by going around and professionally trapping feral cats. They even drive as far as Davidsonville Maryland, (just outside Annapolis) to have them spayed and neutered. So ALL of you know, once that process is done they clip the tip of one ear so that everyone knows they CANNOT reproduce and can be released back into the very area they were trapped in.

Now you have these Idiots, (above) trapping innocent cats that have been fixed and that includes the Humane Society. After all the work the Cat Coalition does the humane society in all their wisdom and stupidity kills and murders these cats.

Rather than these Facebook people reaching out to Jake Day asking for help when he can't keep his own house in order, go after the humane society and stop the killing. Stop donating food and money to these killers, murderers as these are NOT kind and gentle people. Their goal is to keep the cute ones and kill the not so cute ones.

Screw them, shut them down if they can't do this right. Send your donations, food and support to the Community Cat Coalition instead as they are the ones who are actually doing everything to clean up the cat population by spay and neutering thousands upon thousands of cats. Trust me, what they do is far more complicated and difficult, (expensive) then simply putting cats down because it's the easy thing to do.

I'll close with this. How dare the Humane Society KILL animals that have been fixed! This post better soar with anger because if you can't tell, I'M OUTRAGED and I will not stop until major changes happen.

Furthermore,

There is lots of blame to be shared. Number one on the original cat owner and I cannot emphasize this enough. Secondly the City of Salisbury is trapping TNR (trapped spayed/neutered & vaccinated) and sending them to the Humane Society which then has to figure out what to do with them. Officers should be educated to look for ear tipping (removal of the ear tip which is the sign for a TNR cat) and release the cat as it is already a feral cat living in a colony that is being cared for by people that are getting nothing but the financial burden of caring for a cat problem that they didn't create in the first place.

The Humane Society should refuse to take any ear tipped cats and stop destroying the progress that the non-funded cat groups are making. And cat owners need to step up to the plate and get their pets neutered through these groups so their cat doesn't become part of the problem! If you want to help send donations to the cat heroes that have been correcting everyone's problems for free. Contact the Community Cat Coalition and see how you can help! 443-909-8047

Thank You Baltimore Ravens For A Great Season! 1-12-20

Considering it's almost mid January and we were fortunate enough to open the back bar yesterday for the NFL games, the turnout was incredible. The first image, (above) shows my parking lot was completely full. Then came the Ravens loss and I started handing out tissues. At the bar every seat was taken, (mostly women) and the back bar had a nice group of people enjoying the outdoor TV's and fire pit.

As for the Ravens, well, they had 2 weeks off and it clearly showed they weren't as hungry to win as the Titans. Love the Titans or hate them, you have to admit they played an incredible game and deserved to win. If there's one thing I can say about the NFL games this season, there are incredibly talented players this year on all teams and watching all the games I could I've enjoyed the talent across the board.

Joe,

The administrators at Parkside High School conducted a vehicle search. They found more than one firearm.

The disciplinary action, as specified by the WCBOE code of conduct, was not followed. The students had zero disciplinary action.  Brian Briggs was the administrator in charge of these actions.

Yo, Joe!

A friend of my friend's son, down in Temperanceville, is having an electronic hearing device implanted next month. I was there when he was discussing music his kid would hear for the first time, and lamented what was on the radio, and asked what we would suggest for a "mix tape" for his 10 year old. He recognized the greats, as he was wearing a Rush T shirt in the unusually warm weather, coincidentally the same concert I got my T-shirt from in Baltimore almost 10 years ago. He is looking for more obscure works. I suggested "I'm Shipping up to Boston" by the Dropkick Murphys and Harry Nilsson's, " Jump into the Fire."

I would like to suggest more obscure rock music that really would blow the uninitiated mind. He will surely hear Led Zepp., Elvis, Metallica, and the Beatles, but we are looking for different mind exploding sounds. My first suggestion had bag pipes in a rap rock piece. My second is just a personal favorite, that I used to almost be able to run a mile to. I am looking for other inspired, lost rock pieces that he would not likely hear on today's repeat Taylor Swift or Pink stations, immediately channel flipping, garbage. Trying to stay away from the often played greats. That will come to him "naturally", despite him now being a cyborg! 🙂

Chesapeake Bay Bridge tollbooths being removed, but what does this mean for your commute?

Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:01 AM PST

WASHINGTON (WJLA) — Major changes are underway on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge as crews are in the process of removing tollbooths.

Construction crews installed jersey walls Sunday night and it will take months to remove all of the toll lanes.

The goal of this work is to keep traffic flowing because transportation officials don't want drivers to slow down at the toll plaza. In the upcoming weeks, a gantry (an overhead hang) will be installed and used to collect toll fees. If drivers don't have an EZ pass they will receive a bill in the mail.

Cory Booker: ‘I Don’t Think We Should Have Two White Men on the Ticket’

Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:00 AM PST

Appearing Monday on SiriusXM's The Joe Madison Show, failed presidential candidate Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) said he believes that two white men should not be on the 2020 Democrat ticket.

A partial transcript is as follows:

JOE MADISON: What do you say to my audience and other audiences that they'll be more millionaires on the [debate] stage and in the campaign than there will be black people. What do you say to them, particularly younger folk who might be turned off by this? And number two, would you consider being a running mate?

SEN. CORY BOOKER: I'll just be blunt. I didn't know this much until I started looking at the presidency, how well-positioned African-Americans are to determine who the nominee is for the Democratic Party. I didn't realize that from Maryland to Mississippi, African-Americans range from 40 to 70 percent of the primary electorate. There have been very few occasions, I think when Jesse Jackson ran, was one of the few and only times in modern presidential times when African-Americans have not really influenced or decided the winner because the black vote usually consolidates around one candidate and becomes the deciding factor.

Hello Joe,

I've finally had enough of FOX News so called journalist and contributors like Chris Wallace, judge Napolitano and a few others from the constant negative leading statements they use when commenting about President Trump. I thought they got rid of that when they fired left winger Shep Smith. But it appears that now after FOX News was bought out they are slowly all doing what Smith did. Example: they continually let the democrats say that unless the Senate calls the witnesses that the house didn't, then the trial would just be a cover up and so on. Correct me if I'm wrong here but wasn't it the responsibility of the house to gather evidence to prove their case and then send it over to the Senate (And I had to explain this very carefully to FOX News) the Senate is the jury who is suppose to decide the case on the evidence presented by the house. But not a single FOX so called journalist is pushing back when the democrats constantly put this bull in front of them. I can see the reporting of this station slowly shifting left. If they keep this up they'll soon be closely aligned with MSNBC and the other left wing stations. I had so much faith in FOX. Now , I'm not sure. Perhaps others should contact them an express their opinions. Just punch in, "Contact FOX News" and follow the prompts. It's easy. They will also acknowledge receipt of your message.

Teacher of the Year who skipped her White House award ceremony in 2019 kneels during anthem at NCAA game attended by Trump in support of Colin Kaepernick

Minnesota's 'Teacher of the Year' took a knee during the national anthem at the College Football Playoff championship game in New Orleans on Monday night, right behind President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania.

Kelly Holstine, who won Minnesota's 2019 'Teacher of the Year' award, was honored at the big game at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

When it was time for the national anthem she took a knee in protest of the president and in solidarity with the communities she says are oppressed under the Trump administration.

A Message from Ocean City Mayor Meehan - Save Our Sunrise

Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:00 AM PST

Dear Ocean City Residents, Property Owners, Visitors & Friends,

Our 10 mile, beautifully maintained beach and three-mile historic Boardwalk often rank among the nation's top beaches, offering families like yours the perfect place to relax and enjoy the naturally beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean. Unfortunately, our natural viewshed is in danger of being lost forever.

As you may or may not know, two companies are planning to build offshore wind farms directly off of Delaware and Maryland beaches. An Italian company (U.S. Wind) plans to construct dozens of 853-foot-tall wind turbines, located on 46,595 acres (73 square miles) of Atlantic Ocean, as close as thirteen miles from our beloved beach. This project will forever change the natural beauty of our beach, not only for us but for future generations.

The Town of Ocean City while in support for clean energy in Maryland; has opposed the size and location of the wind turbines. In order to avoid the destruction of our natural view forever and the negative impact on our community, the Town of Ocean City is insisting these turbines be moved at least 33 miles from shore. This distance would allow the project to continue without having any impact on our natural horizon, our tourism, our home values, our economy and future generations. This can be done. In fact, the State of Virginia recently approved a project 27 miles off their coast.

A public hearing will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 12 p.m. at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center (4001 Coastal Highway, Ocean City, Maryland). As residents, property owners, visitors and protectors of the future of Ocean City, we need your voice of concern at the Public Service Commission.

We have said it before, and we will say it again…. We only have one chance to do this, so we need to do it right. Making sure these turbines are out of the viewshed of Ocean City is not only a benefit to our residents and property owners, but also to the 8 million people who visit our beach each year. Most importantly, it is our responsibility to protect the natural beauty of our beach so that our children, grandchildren and their grandchildren can enjoy the same pristine horizon that we enjoy every day in Ocean City.

Sincerely,

Mayor Rick Meehan

Warren pledges to cancel most student loan debt without Congress

Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:01 AM PST

Presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) on Tuesday pledged to cancel student loan debt for 42 million Americans on the first day of her presidency by bypassing Congress and using an existing authority from the Department of Education.

Warren had already unveiled a plan to cancel up to $50,000 in loans for about 95 percent of student borrowers, but her plan, unveiled in a Medium post on Tuesday, details for the first time how she would accomplish it.

The presidential candidate said she would use the Higher Education Act, which gives the Department of Education authority "to modify, compromise, waive, or release student loans."

"The Department of Education already has broad legal authority to cancel student debt, and we can't afford to wait for Congress to act," she added. "So I will start to use existing laws on day one of my presidency to implement my student loan debt cancellation plan that offers relief to 42 million Americans."

Cardi B floats bid for Congress: 'I deadass have sooo much ideas'

Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:00 AM PST

Singer Cardi B, who last week said she wanted to leave the United States because President Trump is "putting American lives in danger," now wants to be part of the U.S. government — even though she doesn't agree with it.

"I think I want to be a politician," tweeted the pop star. "I really love government even tho I don't agree with Government."

Cardi B, 27, said she was filing for a Nigerian passport the day after an airstrike killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi militia leader Abu Mahdi al Muhandis outside the Baghdad International Airport.

"I do feel like if I go back to school and focus up I can be part of Congress," added Cardi B in a follow-up tweet. "I deadass have sooo much ideas that make sense." The word "deadass" implies that Cardi B is serious about her ideas making sense.

Former US attorney says report on possible leak by James Comey is a 'bombshell'

Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:00 AM PST

Former U.S. Attorney Brett Tolman on Friday said that the report on former FBI Director James Comey possibly illegally leaking secret information concerning a Russian document to The New York Times and The Washington Post "is a bombshell."

"It connects some dots that have been frustrating to me," Tolman told "Fox & Friends," recalling that his suspicions were raised for him when Comey broke Justice Department protocol in 2016 to hold a news conference to announce the FBI would not recommend charges against then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton over her private emails.

The new review, which the Times downplayed as a possibly politically motivated probe by the Trump administration, concerns a Russian intelligence document "claiming a tacit understanding between the Clinton campaign and the [Obama] Justice Department over the inquiry into whether she intentionally revealed classified information through her use of a private email server," as the Post described it in May 2017.

Dutch intelligence accessed the document on Russian computers and provided it to the FBI. Included in the document was a discussion between Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., then the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, and Leonard Benardo, who worked with the George Soros-funded group Open Society Foundations.

Schultz told Benardo in the document that then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch would ensure Clinton was not prosecuted in the email probe.

New Poll Shows Majority of Marylanders Oppose Tax Increases to Fund Education

Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:00 AM PST

Maryland's Voters Firmly Believe They Are Taxed Too Much

ANNAPOLIS, MD – The House Minority Caucus today released polling data proving the majority of Marylanders oppose paying higher taxes to fund increases in education spending. The poll was conducted by Gonzales Research & Media Services from December 23, 2019 through January 4, 2020. The poll found that a whopping 94% of Maryland voters believe they pay enough or too much in taxes with 65% of responding that they and their families pay too much. When asked specifically if they are willing to pay higher taxes to fund increases in education spending, 52% of Marylanders say NO, with 55% of women rejecting higher taxes for education. Less than 2% of respondents were willing to pay the thousands in taxes each year that will be necessary to increase spending at proposed levels.

"These poll results confirm what we already believed to be true," said House Minority Leader Nic Kipke. "Maryland families are not willing to absorb the massive tax increases that will be necessary to fund this surge in education spending."

"Maryland families are still making payments on the last failed education plan," said House Minority Whip Kathy Szeliga, referring to the spending increases required by the Thornton Commission, the last revamp of education funding that failed to achieve many positive outcomes. "It is no surprise that taxpayers are suspicious of another set of vague promises tied to massive spending amounts. It is their money that is being thrown at the problem, and they've seen this all before."

Delegates Kipke and Szeliga are available for further comment. The polling results are available here.

Deaf man sues Pornhub for disability discrimination claiming its videos don't have subtitles

A deaf man is suing Pornhub for violating the American Disabilities Act (ADA) by not having subtitles on their x-rated videos.

Yaroslav Suris has filed a class-action lawsuit against the international porn site claiming its lack of subtitles is a denial of access, TMZ reports.

Suris shared that he had tried to watch titles that included 'Hot Step Aunt Babysits Disobedient Nephew,' 'Sexy Cop Gets Witness to Talk' and 'Daddy 4K -- Allison comes to Talk About Money to Her Boys' Naughty Father,' but couldn't get through the dialogue in the flicks for lack of subtitles.

Justin Trudeau blames US 'escalation' for Iran's downing of Ukrainian airplane

Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:00 AM PST

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, 48, said on Monday that the United States bears responsibility for Iran's downing of a Ukrainian airplane last Wednesday, which killed all 176 passengers on board.

"I think if there were no tensions, if there was no escalation recently in the region, those Canadians would be right now home with their families," Trudeau said in an interview on Monday.

Fifty-seven Canadians were among those killed last Wednesday after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps fired a ballistic missile at a commercial Boeing 737 plane. The strike occurred during an Iranian attack on Iraqi air bases housing U.S. military personnel. Trudeau said the incident is "something that happens when you have conflict and war."

California Water Infected With Increasing Fecal Bacteria As Democrats Allow Homeless Crisis to Worsen

Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:00 AM PST

It's always entertaining to see diametrically opposing leftist movements collide with one another. Now we have the environmental groups squaring off against the homeless advocacy groups, as California's homeless crisis is leading to mass contamination of the rivers and streams. Rather than going through sewage treatment, human waste from the homeless is ending up directly in the water ways.

California Health Line reports:

"We should all work together to clean up these hazardous waste and homeless sites before the whole city rots away," Trump tweeted about San Francisco on Oct. 26. "Very bad and dangerous conditions, also severely impacting the Pacific Ocean and water supply."

San Francisco officials were quick to dispute Trump's claims. But some of California's most prized rivers, beaches and streams are indeed contaminated with levels of fecal bacteria that exceed state limits, threatening kayakers, swimmers — and the state's reputation as a bastion of environmental protection.

The presence of fecal bacteria in water is usually the result of problems with sewer systems and septic tanks. But water quality officials agree that the source of at least some of the fecal bacteria is California's growing homeless population, most of whom don't have reliable access to toilets.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) secured another significant endorsement on Tuesday, earning the support of the Clark County Educational Association — the largest teachers union in the state representing the fifth-largest school district in the country.

Sanders, who has long positioned himself as the go-to candidate for the labor movement, secured the endorsement of the Clark County Educational Association, which represents roughly 19,000 educators in the Clark County School District, BuzzFeed News confirmed on Tuesday.

The socialist senator reportedly led in the union's straw poll, which played a role in the final outcome.

Attorney General Frosh Joins Multistate Lawsuit to Stop Elimination of Food Assistance for Nearly 700,000 Struggling Americans

15 Attorneys General and New York City Allege the USDA Attempted to Circumvent Congress with Unlawful Food Stamp Rule Change

BALTIMORE, MD (January 16, 2020) – Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh today joined a group of 15 attorneys general and New York City in a lawsuit to stop the Trump administration from eliminating food assistance for nearly 700,000 Americans.  The lawsuit challenges a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) rule that would limit states' ability to extend benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly known as "food stamps," beyond a three-month period for certain adults.

The coalition of attorneys general asserts that the rule directly undermines Congress' intent for SNAP, and that the USDA violated the federal rulemaking process.  Further, they argue that the rule would impose significant regulatory burdens on the states and harm states' residents and economies.  The coalition is urging the court to declare the rule unlawful and issue an injunction to prevent it from taking effect.

"SNAP is the country's most important anti-hunger program; it lifts people out of poverty and food insecurity.  This rule will cause Marylanders to go hungry.  It is unnecessary and heartless," said Attorney General Frosh.

SNAP has served as the country's primary response to hunger since 1977, and is a critical part of federal and state efforts to help lift people out of poverty.  The program provides access to nutrition for millions of Americans with limited incomes who would otherwise struggle with food insecurity.  While the federal government pays the full cost of SNAP benefits, it shares the costs of administering the program on a 50-50 basis with the states, which operate the program.

Congress amended SNAP in 1996 with the goal of encouraging greater workforce participation among beneficiaries.  The changes introduced a three-month time limit on SNAP benefits for unemployed individuals aged 18 to 49 who are not disabled or raising children (i.e., "able-bodied adults without dependents" (ABAWDs)).  Congress understood that states were best positioned to assess whether local economic conditions and labor markets provided ABAWDs reasonable employment opportunities.  As a result, the law allows a state to acquire a waiver of the ABAWD time limit for areas where the unemployment rate is above 10 percent, or if it presents data demonstrating that the area lacks sufficient jobs for ABAWDs.  States also were given a limited number of one-month exemptions for individuals who would otherwise lose benefits under the time limit and were permitted to carry over unused exemptions to safeguard against sudden economic downturns.

Over the last 24 years, Congress has maintained the criteria for states to obtain waivers and to carry over unused exemptions.  It has reauthorized the statute four times without limiting states' discretion over these matters.  House Republicans considered adding restrictions on waivers and carryovers in the 2018 Farm Bill, but a bipartisan coalition expressly rejected them in the final legislation.

Shortly after President Trump signed the 2018 Farm Bill into law, USDA announced a proposed rule seeking changes almost identical to those Congress rejected.  USDA received more than 100,000 comments in total—the majority of which reflected strong opposition from a broad range of stakeholders.  Regardless, USDA's final rule went even further in restricting state discretion over waivers and exemptions than what it had initially proposed.

In the lawsuit, the states collectively argue that the administration's rule:
  • Contradicts statutory language and Congress's intent for the food-stamp program: When Congress amended SNAP and added the ABAWD time limit in 1996, it included a waiver process explicitly providing for relief from the time limit if insufficient job opportunities were available for ABAWDs and clearly indicating that states were best equipped to make this determination based on local economic and employment conditions.  Congress has reaffirmed this position multiple times, most recently in 2018.  Yet USDA's new rule severely restricts states' discretion over these matters and essentially writes this basis for waiver out of the statute, contrary to law and congressional intent.  Major aspects of the rule mirror proposed changes that Congress explicitly rejected in 2018.
  • Raises healthcare and homelessness costs while lowering economic activity in the states: For SNAP recipients, losing benefits means losing critical access to food, raising the risk of malnutrition and other negative health effects.  Studies have shown that SNAP can counteract food insecurity and lower healthcare costs for recipients by about $1,400 per person—costs that state governments will likely bear in the absence of SNAP assistance.  Without SNAP benefits, many will be forced to choose between having food to eat or a place to live.  Their purchasing power will decrease, harming state economies.  As USDA concedes in the rule, these impacts will be most concentrated among lower-income communities of color
  • Amends the law for arbitrary and capricious reasons: The APA requires agencies to offer a reasoned explanation for changing long-held policies and address why the facts and circumstances supporting the prior policy should be disregarded.  For over two decades, USDA has accepted Congress's premise that a state should define the geographic scope of its waiver request and support that request with a wide range of data sources that are together best able to capture employment prospects for ABAWDs.  Yet the new rule strictly defines the area for which waivers may be sought and rejects data beyond general unemployment figures without any justification.
  • Violates the federal rulemaking process: The Administrative Procedure Act (APA) governs internal procedures for federal agencies, including rulemaking.  Among other requirements, agencies must solicit and consider public comments on the substance of a rule.  USDA broke from this process by issuing a final rule that diverged from its proposed rule in significant ways.  For example, while the proposed rule maintained that a state could receive a waiver if it qualified for extended unemployment benefits under Department of Labor policies, the final rule eliminated this basis.  Thus, commenters did not receive meaningful opportunity to comment on the full extent of the agency's changes.
The lawsuit was filed in United States District Court for the District of Columbia.  The States filed a Motion for Preliminary Injunction concurrently with the complaint to prevent the rule from going into effect on April 1, 2020.
Joining Maryland in the lawsuit are the attorneys general of California, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia, along with the City of New York.

OCPD Reports Drop In Applicants For 2020 Season

Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:00 AM PST

OCEAN CITY – As the Ocean City Police Department prepares for the upcoming summer season, Police Chief Ross Buzzuro shared his recruitment concerns this week.

On Monday, Buzzuro presented the Ocean City Police Commission with an update on recruitment efforts for seasonal officers and public safety aides.

"We have seen a dropoff in candidates," he said, "about 40% on the seasonal officer [side] and about 30% on the public safety [side]."

As of the first January testing date in 2020, 62 candidates had applied for seasonal police officer positions. At the same time last year, the number of candidates exceeded 100.

Buzzuro told the commission the department had 32 seasonal officers returning for the 2020 summer season. But he said the number of applicants for the seasonal program had decreased in the last five years.

Kamala Harris Vice President Rumors Heat Up As Biden Says He’d ‘Consider Her For Anything’

Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:00 AM PST

The first primary of the 2020 election season hasn't even taken place but speculation over who would be the eventual Democrat nominee's running mate was already nearing a fever pitch. The topic was revisited in the hours ahead of the first Democrat debate of the year on Tuesday when the Sacramento Bee published an interview with front-runner and former Vice President Joe Biden.

One of the main takeaways was how Biden said he'd be open to having Kamala Harris be his vice-presidential candidate should he win the Democrat nomination.

"She's qualified to be president, and I'd consider her for anything that she would be interested in," Biden told the Bee's California Nation podcast.

While Biden has hinted in the past at possible running mates, Tuesday was the first time he mentioned the name of Harris, with whom he sparred over the topic of race during the second Democrat debate back in June.

Biden's name-dropping of Harris was timely because she has increasingly been discussed in the context of a vice presidential running mate for the eventual nominee since she suspended her campaign last month. Immediately afterward there was speculation about Harris' chances at being a vice-presidential candidate. Staff writers at New York's Intelligencer cited Harris' low polling as a reason why she may not be the best choice as a running mate. But Washington Post editorial writer Jennifer Rubin made a compelling case for why Harris should be considered.

Bill would allow drivers with traffic debt to keep license

Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:00 AM PST

ANNAPOLIS, Md. —Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh is backing bipartisan legislation that would allow a driver who owes a traffic debt to keep their license.

Paying a traffic ticket is not always high on the priority list -- sometimes people put it off to pay other bills -- but if you don't pay it, the consequences are severe. Frosh said Wednesday that tens of thousands of people get their licenses suspended because they didn't pay a ticket or fee.

Jason Butler, of Baltimore, spent a month in jail for driving with a suspended license. He initially got a traffic ticket for failing to signal. When he didn't pay, the fine and court costs mounted.

Two Wrongs Don't Make A Right: You CANNOT euthanize your way out of this problem.

Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:00 AM PST

Well I certainly got everyone's attention yesterday about the cat issue that's going on within the city of Salisbury. You have the equivalent of an uneducated animal control staff that is trapping cats that have already been neutered and vaccinated and are being trapped because a property owner or tenant doesn't want the cat trespassing on their property. You now as a city resident have to control the movement of your outside cat which any kindergartner knows isn't possible, practical, or probable in the cat world.

So now these under-educated dog catchers are appeasing one individual temporarily, while unwittingly creating a vacuum for another unvaccinated, non-neutered cat to takes its place.

Just like euthanizing the goose problem didn't go away or scare the new geese away that are now free to populate the void that was left after wasting tax dollars to kill 400 geese. No one told the new geese about their predecessors, so the geese keep coming to the city to set up their new home.

Exactly what happens when you remove feral cats. You CANNOT euthanize your way out of this problem.

What needs to happen is these groups: animal control officers, the Humane Society, and any organization that is helping these local cats need to get together and work out a sensible plan of action.

Perhaps animal control can educate the folks that seem to have no tolerance for an abandoned animal that never asked to be in the middle of this mess.

And maybe the Humane Society can refuse to allow any TNR cat to be brought into the shelter simply because it's an inconvenience for someone else. And if an individual purposely traps a cat in foul weather and makes them sick they should be charged with animal cruelty. And lastly the folks who tirelessly provide this TNR service to an adjoining county should be praised and thanked for their unconditional work. They don't get any funding for what they do. They aren't paid a salary, and they constantly reach into their own pockets  to clean up the mess that irresponsible adults make with a pet they choose to own. Only abandon them and create the problem in the first place.

Anyone who complains about this should be sending in donations to groups like Community Cat Coalition that can't even afford to pay for the repairs needed to their dilapidated van. After all, without their help the feral cat problem you have now just might end up exploding into thousands of cats. Open your eyes and wallets and thank the people who are unconditionally cleaning up your mess!

Blackburn: Four Senate Dems vying for president should recuse from impeachment trial

Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:01 AM PST

Sen. Marsha Blackburn has suggested her Democrat colleagues running for president should be recused from sitting as jurors in the impeachment trial against President Trump.

"Tomorrow, one hundred United States Senators will be sworn in to serve in the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump. Four of those Senators must recuse themselves for their unparalleled political interest in seeing this President removed from office," said the Tennessee Republican.

Ms. Blackburn is referring to Sen. Bernie Sanders, Vermont Independent, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Massachusetts Democrat, Sen. Michael Bennet, Colorado Democrat, and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Minnesota Democrat.

"To participate in this trial would be a failure of the oath they took to be an 'impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws'. Their presidential ambitions prohibit their ability to view this trial through an objective lens," Ms. Blackburn said.

Physician Burnout Widespread

Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:00 AM PST

Physicians between the ages of 40 and 54 experience a higher rate of burnout than younger or older physicians, according to a recent survey of more than 15,000 physicians who cited administrative tasks and work hours as key drivers of their stress.

Nearly half of Generation X physicians reported feeling burned out, compared with 38% of millennials, ages 25 to 39, and 39% of baby boomers, ages 55 to 73, surveyed. Roughly half of all the doctors surveyed also said that they would be willing to take a substantial pay cut to achieve a better work-life balance.

Some 55% of physicians reported that administrative tasks as the main driver of burnout, and spending too many hours at work was also a top contributor across the board. But millennial and Gen X doctors cited also a lack of respect from administrators, employers or colleagues as a top concern, while boomers highlighted increased computerization and electronic medical records.

An illegal alien, known locally for driving a church van, has been accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl and being in possession of child pornography in the state of Maryland.

Jose Argueta, a 44-year-old illegal alien from El Salvador, was arrested by the Annapolis Police Department after he allegedly sexually abused a 13-year-old girl on four separate occasions and allegedly took sexually explicit photos of the child.

According to Annapolis Sgt. Amy Miguez, the illegal alien drove a church van that transported the victim and her family to their Glen Burnie, Maryland, church.

"That's how [the victim] first met him," Miguez told local media.

"It was obvious that there was a lot of information confirming that this had happened and also photographs, unfortunately, pornographic images of this child," Miguez said.
