All-White Democratic Debate Mistaken For KKK Rally Posted: 15 Jan 2020 07:30 PM PST DES MOINES, IA—Many were shocked to turn to CNN last night and see what appeared to be a Ku Klux Klan rally. Airing for two hours was an all-white assembly of people talking about their superior plans for the country. CNN received numerous complaints but explained it was not a Klan rally but in fact a Democratic presidential debate. This confused many people, as there had been numerous minority candidates in the presidential primary, and this was what appeared to be a "whites only" debate. CNN explained that this was not true and that the debate had nothing to do with white supremacy; the DNC simply had excluded all minority candidates from the debate for being inferior to the white ones. "And I have many black friends," explained Joe Biden, an attendee of the not-Klan rally. "Like Barack Obama. And Corn Pop." More Satire

Posted: 15 Jan 2020 05:00 PM PST Dear Residents, In 2008, an ordinance passed, authorizing the Delmar Police Department to have Collective Bargaining and Binding Arbitration Rights in Delmar, Maryland. At the time, the Maryland Elected Officials believed that Delmar, DE was facing State legislation that would mandate the same course of action. As it turned out, Delmar, Delaware was not mandated by State legislation to enact Collective Bargaining and Binding Arbitration, therefore, they opted not to do so. The Towns of Delmar, Maryland and Delaware operate under a unified agreement with one Town Manager, one police department, one public works department, one administration and one municipal building; therefore, we believe it is in the Town's best interest to amend the previous ordinance to correct the imbalance of the unified operational structure of our Towns. Further, we strongly believe that being forced to act independently from Delmar, Delaware would be a difficult task, as well as affect the Town's unification. On January 13, 2020, The Mayor and Commissioners introduced an amendment to the 2008 ordinance. The Mayor and Commissioners believe this ordinance amendment is essential to protect our Delmar, Maryland constituents from bearing 100% of the costs that could be imposed if we do not make this change. It is our desire to ensure that we continue to maintain the unification agreement that keeps this unique "Town Too Big for one State". Please be advised this amendment does not prohibit collective bargaining, it simply allows the Commissioners to protect the future of the unified Towns ability to work together in the best interests of the taxpayers, as well as to ensure that the daily operational expenditures is shared, based upon the agreed proportions. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the Town Manager, Sara Bynum-King at 410-896-2777 x 105. Please see the attached amendment. Respectfully Submitted, Mayor and Commissioners, Delmar, Maryland
Dow Jones index breaks 29,000 for first time ever Posted: 15 Jan 2020 04:30 PM PST The Dow Jones industrial average broke 29,000 for the first time ever Friday, even as new employment data showed disappointing jobs growth. The blue-chip index hit an all-time, intraday high of 29,009.07, marking a nearly 0.2 percent increase from Thursday's close, before falling 0.46 percent, or 133.13 points, to close at 28,823.77. The milestone came despite Friday's monthly jobs report showing slowing employment growth, with the US economy adding 145,000 gigs in December. More
Gun applications in New York Jewish community spike to nearly 1,000% after Hanukkah attack Posted: 15 Jan 2020 04:00 PM PST Applications for gun permits are surging in New York's Rockland County after five Orthodox Jews were stabbed at a Hanukkah celebration at a local rabbi's home. The Rockland County Clerk's office reported a nearly 1,000% increase in gun permit applications in the week following the Dec. 28 attack. The county clerk received 65 new gun permit applications, according to the New York Post. Before the attack, the office received an average of about six applications a week. All but five of the new applications originated from the town of Ramapo, where the attack took place. Ramapo contains several heavily Jewish communities. More
New Poll Shows Majority of Marylanders Oppose Tax Increases to Fund Education Posted: 15 Jan 2020 03:30 PM PST Maryland's Voters Firmly Believe They Are Taxed Too Much ANNAPOLIS, MD – The House Minority Caucus today released polling data proving the majority of Marylanders oppose paying higher taxes to fund increases in education spending. The poll was conducted by Gonzales Research & Media Services from December 23, 2019 through January 4, 2020. The poll found that a whopping 94% of Maryland voters believe they pay enough or too much in taxes with 65% of responding that they and their families pay too much. When asked specifically if they are willing to pay higher taxes to fund increases in education spending, 52% of Marylanders say NO, with 55% of women rejecting higher taxes for education. Less than 2% of respondents were willing to pay the thousands in taxes each year that will be necessary to increase spending at proposed levels. "These poll results confirm what we already believed to be true," said House Minority Leader Nic Kipke. "Maryland families are not willing to absorb the massive tax increases that will be necessary to fund this surge in education spending." "Maryland families are still making payments on the last failed education plan," said House Minority Whip Kathy Szeliga, referring to the spending increases required by the Thornton Commission, the last revamp of education funding that failed to achieve many positive outcomes. "It is no surprise that taxpayers are suspicious of another set of vague promises tied to massive spending amounts. It is their money that is being thrown at the problem, and they've seen this all before." Delegates Kipke and Szeliga are available for further comment. The polling results are available here.

Housing-voucher and guns bills are priorities for new Senate committee chair Posted: 15 Jan 2020 02:30 PM PST A bill that would make it illegal for landlords to discriminate against voucher holders is the top priority of the new chairman of Maryland's powerful Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee. Sen. William "Will" Smith Jr., D-Montgomery, said he also will push to require background checks for private sales of rifles and shotguns, appropriate more funds to hire state prosecutors and address racial disparities in the state's prison population. Smith sponsored but withdrew the housing bill last session, when the committee was led by his predecessor, Sen. Bobby Zirkin, D-Baltimore County, who resigned from the Senate in December. Showell School’s Year Cut Short For Demolition Work Posted: 15 Jan 2020 02:00 PM PST BERLIN – Showell Elementary School will end the school year early to allow for demolition of the existing facility and preparation of the new school. A waiver from the state will allow Showell Elementary to end the school year on Friday, June 5. The last day at Worcester County's other schools is set for June 16. "I am grateful that the request for a waiver of the 180-day requirement has been approved," Superintendent Lou Taylor said. "As the Showell project continues toward completion, this additional time will ensure that the new Showell Elementary School will open safely for the start of the 2020-2021 school year." Construction of a new Showell Elementary School, to be located behind the existing building, began in October 2018 and is proceeding on schedule. A key component of the project, however, is demolition of the current school to allow for construction of a bus loop and staff parking area for the new facility. Taylor, on behalf of the Worcester County Board of Education, requested a waiver from Maryland State Superintendent Dr. Karen Salmon in December to reduce the school year's days for Showell students. MSNBC in talks with Shepard Smith as network considers bumping Chuck Todd time slot Posted: 15 Jan 2020 01:30 PM PST MSNBC is reportedly considering moving Chuck Todd to a morning time slot and bringing former longtime Fox News host Shepard Smith on board for a prime-time slot. According to a report from the Daily Beast, several sources at NBC claimed the company is looking to acquire Smith, who left Fox News in October. The sources noted that the network would like to move Chuck Todd's MTP Daily to a morning time slot and fill the 5 p.m. EST hour with an anchor who can drive higher ratings before the 2020 election is in full swing. The report claimed Smith met with MSNBC President Phil Griffin to discuss potential roles within the network after his noncompete agreement with Fox News expires, though no final decisions have been made. An NBC source also claimed that CNN is looking to hire Smith but that his contract could be a very expensive acquisition. More

Refugee Resettlement Is Costly Posted: 15 Jan 2020 12:30 PM PST The purpose of refugee policy is primarily humanitarian, and policymakers need to determine how best to help refugees given limited resources and possible disruption to host nations. However, advocates for expanding the number of refugees admitted to the United States have lately portrayed their position as a win-win — not only is refugee resettlement a moral imperative, it is also in our nation's economic self-interest! Last fall, a leaked (and apparently unfinished) report from the Department Health and Human Services claimed that refugees pay more in taxes than they receive in services. A less comprehensive NBER working paper came to the same conclusion last summer. Both papers neglect substantial costs that invalidate their conclusions. (For details, see the links above.) More fundamentally, both implicitly assume that today's refugees are just like yesterday's. In the 20th century, the United States took in several groups of higher-skill refugees — for example, Cubans after Castro's takeover, South Vietnamese after the fall of Saigon, Soviet dissidents in the 1980s, Eastern Europeans in the 1990s, and so on. Today, refugees come mainly from less developed parts of the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. Some sobering data can be found in the 2016 report from the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), which covers arrivals between fiscal years 2011 and 2015: More here
'That is discrimination': Two transgender women sue Florida over state's healthcare ban Posted: 15 Jan 2020 12:00 PM PST Two transgender women have sued Florida over a law that prohibits state employer-provided health plans from covering gender reassignment or modification services. Jami Claire, 62, and Kathryn Lane, 38, argue that Florida state healthcare policy violates the Constitution and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. They have partnered with several organizations, including the ACLU of Florida and Southern Legal Counsel, in the suit. Their lawsuit, filed in the Northern District of Florida, argues that both Claire and Lane's gender dysphoria, a condition where one feels distress because of a psychological disconnect between their gender identity and biological sex, have worsened because they have had to delay transition-related care. Shopping Mall Vacancies Hit Two-Decade High Posted: 15 Jan 2020 11:30 AM PST Shopping malls across the country are under severe financial distress, with vacancy rates hitting two-decade highs in 2019, reported the Financial Times, citing a new report from Reis Moody's Analytics. US retailers announced 9,300 store closings in 2019, according to Coresight, indicating that the retail apocalypse and a massacre of malls are far from over. Mall operators saw a surge of store closures in 2H19 and ahead of Christmas despite a relatively stable consumer that has been leveraging up via the use of credit cards. Barbara Denham, a senior economist at Reis, said one notable trend during the 2019 holiday season was the shift in spending habits from brick and mortar stores to online. More
Justin Trudeau blames US 'escalation' for Iran's downing of Ukrainian airplane Posted: 15 Jan 2020 11:00 AM PST Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, 48, said on Monday that the United States bears responsibility for Iran's downing of a Ukrainian airplane last Wednesday, which killed all 176 passengers on board. "I think if there were no tensions, if there was no escalation recently in the region, those Canadians would be right now home with their families," Trudeau said in an interview on Monday. Fifty-seven Canadians were among those killed last Wednesday after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps fired a ballistic missile at a commercial Boeing 737 plane. The strike occurred during an Iranian attack on Iraqi air bases housing U.S. military personnel. Trudeau said the incident is "something that happens when you have conflict and war." Jussie Smollett is probably toast now that Google is handing his data to the special prosecutor Posted: 15 Jan 2020 10:00 AM PST Actor Jussie Smollett, aka "the gay Tupac," almost certainly lied about the assault he claims he experienced last year. A new order from a judge in Chicago will likely prove it once and for all. Cook County Judge Michael Toomin, who appointed a special prosecutor to look into the case, is requiring Google to turn over a year's worth of Smollett's emails, location data, and messages. He's also ordered the same for Smollett's manager, a witness to the alleged hate crime, wherein Smollett says he was jumped early one morning by two men who confronted him with racist, anti-gay, and pro-Trump comments before beating him. The Chicago Tribune reported last week that the court orders include that Google hand over "drafted and deleted messages; any files in their Google Drive cloud storage services; any Google Voice texts, calls and contacts; search and web browsing history." Ex-Treasury employee pleads guilty to leaking Trump team info Posted: 15 Jan 2020 09:45 AM PST A former top Treasury Department official pleaded guilty Monday to conspiracy for leaking confidential banking reports associated with members of the Trump campaign, following her dramatic arrest in October 2018 as she toted a flash drive full of sensitive documents. Natalie Edwards, 41, entered the plea in Manhattan federal court, where U.S. District Judge Gregory H. Woods set sentencing for June 9. Although the conspiracy charge carried a potential penalty of up to five years in prison, Edwards signed a plea deal with prosecutors that recommended a potential prison sentence of zero to six months. Edwards was a senior adviser at Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, also known as FinCEN. Prosecutors said her crime began in October 2017 and continued for a year, with Edwards sending a BuzzFeed News reporter numerous Suspicious Activity Reports ("SARs"). Banks must file SARs with the Treasury Department when they spot transactions raising questions about possible financial misconduct such as money laundering, but federal law strictly limited their disclosure. Appearing on "Fox & Friends" with host Steve Doocy, Webb said Murphy's approach was nothing new and echoed failed attempts by former governors. "The economics of this are ridiculous. Governor McGreevey, Governor Corzine...instituted a millionaire's tax. Billions of dollars leave the state in total economic activity," said Webb. DHS using airplanes to deport Mexican migrants away from US border Posted: 15 Jan 2020 09:00 AM PST The Trump administration has reportedly been placing Mexican nationals who have entered the country illegally on airplanes in Arizona and flying them back to Mexico, away from the border with the United States. Since December, the Department of Homeland Security has been putting illegal immigrants and those who were ruled to be deportable by an immigration judge on flights from Tuscon, Arizona, and releasing them in Guadalajara, according to Fox News. Federal immigration officials said the goal of the plan is to physically move migrants further away from the border in an attempt to curb the reflow of those individuals to the U.S. The Trump administration had previously been releasing illegal immigrants near the border with Mexico. NRA Supporters Flood Virginia Capitol, Push Dems to Change Gun-Control Bills Posted: 15 Jan 2020 08:30 AM PST RICHMOND, VA.—Thousands of NRA supporters turned out at Virginia's capitol building on Monday in a show of opposition that pushed Democrats in the state legislature to moderate or abandon some of their strictest gun-control proposals. "We are beyond impressed by today's turnout," D.J. Spiker, Virginia state director for the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action, told the Washington Free Beacon. "You can see the passion and enthusiasm that the citizens of Virginia have in joining us in this fight." The presence of gun-rights supporters at the state Senate judiciary committee hearing appeared to have an impact, as Democrats formally withdrew S.B. 16—a hotly-contested bill that would have effectively confiscated AR-15s and similar firearms—and moderated several other proposals. The NRA, however, said the changes were not enough and promised to continue to oppose the bills as they continue to move forward in the coming weeks. More
Harris Announces Over $6 Million in Grants to Address Homelessness Posted: 15 Jan 2020 08:00 AM PST WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) applauded the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) announcement of grants to support local homeless assistance programs across the nation, including over $6 million in counties within Maryland's First Congressional District. HUD's Continuum of Care grants will provide critically needed support to local programs on the front lines serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The Continuum of Care Program is designed to promote a community-wide commitment to the goal of ending homelessness; to provide funding for efforts by nonprofit providers, States, and local governments to quickly re-house homeless individuals, families, persons fleeing domestic violence, and youth while minimizing the trauma and dislocation caused by homelessness; and to optimize self-sufficiency among those experiencing homelessness. Eligible project applicants for the program are nonprofit organizations, States, local governments, and instrumentalities of State and local governments, and public housing agencies. Grants in the First Congressional District include:
Congressman Harris made the following statement: "As a member of the Committee on Appropriations, I applaud the award of these federal grants to local homeless programs in the First Congressional District. As our nation continues to deal with homelessness, I know how valuable these dollars are in supporting communities seeking to help individuals and families struggling with homelessness. I thank Secretary Carson and commend him for his leadership on this issue."

A Viewer Writes.............Name That Tune Posted: 15 Jan 2020 07:00 AM PST Yo, Joe! A friend of my friend's son, down in Temperanceville, is having an electronic hearing device implanted next month. I was there when he was discussing music his kid would hear for the first time, and lamented what was on the radio, and asked what we would suggest for a "mix tape" for his 10 year old. He recognized the greats, as he was wearing a Rush T shirt in the unusually warm weather, coincidentally the same concert I got my T-shirt from in Baltimore almost 10 years ago. He is looking for more obscure works. I suggested "I'm Shipping up to Boston" by the Dropkick Murphys and Harry Nilsson's, " Jump into the Fire." I would like to suggest more obscure rock music that really would blow the uninitiated mind. He will surely hear Led Zepp., Elvis, Metallica, and the Beatles, but we are looking for different mind exploding sounds. My first suggestion had bag pipes in a rap rock piece. My second is just a personal favorite, that I used to almost be able to run a mile to. I am looking for other inspired, lost rock pieces that he would not likely hear on today's repeat Taylor Swift or Pink stations, immediately channel flipping, garbage. Trying to stay away from the often played greats. That will come to him "naturally", despite him now being a cyborg! 🙂 Girdletree Editor's Note: Ok readers name that tune........
Franklin Graham: Dems Hate Trump Because He Hasn’t ‘Bowed Down’ to Them Posted: 15 Jan 2020 06:45 AM PST The Rev. Franklin Graham said Monday there has never before been such hatred as that of Democrats and liberal media for President Donald Trump. Responding to comments by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) that Trump is "impeached for life," the prominent evangelical leader and son of Billy Graham sent out tweets offering an explanation for the unprecedented hatred for the president shown by his enemies. "Never before has there been such a level of hatred as we have seen for Donald Trump from the Democrats & liberal media. Why? It may be because he hasn't bowed down to them," Graham wrote. This impeachment is about embarrassing @realDonaldTrump & trying to win the next election. But I believe American voters see through this never-ending charade. I pray God will strengthen @POTUS, @VP Mike Pence, & protect their families from the false accusations of the left. — Franklin Graham (@Franklin_Graham) January 14, 2020 More
Warren pledges to cancel most student loan debt without Congress Posted: 15 Jan 2020 06:30 AM PST Presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) on Tuesday pledged to cancel student loan debt for 42 million Americans on the first day of her presidency by bypassing Congress and using an existing authority from the Department of Education. Warren had already unveiled a plan to cancel up to $50,000 in loans for about 95 percent of student borrowers, but her plan, unveiled in a Medium post on Tuesday, details for the first time how she would accomplish it. The presidential candidate said she would use the Higher Education Act, which gives the Department of Education authority "to modify, compromise, waive, or release student loans." "The Department of Education already has broad legal authority to cancel student debt, and we can't afford to wait for Congress to act," she added. "So I will start to use existing laws on day one of my presidency to implement my student loan debt cancellation plan that offers relief to 42 million Americans." More
Kamala Harris Vice President Rumors Heat Up As Biden Says He’d ‘Consider Her For Anything’ Posted: 15 Jan 2020 06:15 AM PST The first primary of the 2020 election season hasn't even taken place but speculation over who would be the eventual Democrat nominee's running mate was already nearing a fever pitch. The topic was revisited in the hours ahead of the first Democrat debate of the year on Tuesday when the Sacramento Bee published an interview with front-runner and former Vice President Joe Biden. One of the main takeaways was how Biden said he'd be open to having Kamala Harris be his vice-presidential candidate should he win the Democrat nomination. "She's qualified to be president, and I'd consider her for anything that she would be interested in," Biden told the Bee's California Nation podcast. While Biden has hinted in the past at possible running mates, Tuesday was the first time he mentioned the name of Harris, with whom he sparred over the topic of race during the second Democrat debate back in June. Biden's name-dropping of Harris was timely because she has increasingly been discussed in the context of a vice presidential running mate for the eventual nominee since she suspended her campaign last month. Immediately afterward there was speculation about Harris' chances at being a vice-presidential candidate. Staff writers at New York's Intelligencer cited Harris' low polling as a reason why she may not be the best choice as a running mate. But Washington Post editorial writer Jennifer Rubin made a compelling case for why Harris should be considered. More
The Trump Effect: Britain, France, Germany Suddenly Harden Toward Iran Posted: 15 Jan 2020 06:00 AM PST Surprise, surprise: Three countries that are signatories to the infamous Iran nuclear deal have suddenly hardened their positions vis-Ã -vis Iran after the Trump administration's airstrike killing Iranian general Qassem Soleimani. On Tuesday, Britain, France and Germany triggered the nuclear deal's dispute mechanism, which means Iran has 30 days to stop violating the nuclear deal before a "snap-back" of U.N. and EU sanctions on Iran could be implemented, as the Associated Press reports. As Britain's Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab informed Parliament (although Russia and China objected to the move by Britain, France and Germany), every time Iran violates the deal the "breakout time" Iran needs to create a nuclear bomb is diminished. He warned, "Each of these actions were individually serious. Together, they now raise acute concerns about Iran's nuclear ambitions." Iran's Foreign Ministry claimed there would be a "serious and strong response" to the new actions by the triumvirate of European countries. More
There's NOTHING Humane About The Wicomico Humane Society Posted: 15 Jan 2020 06:44 AM PST While the above images are disturbing, things get a LOT worse. It used to be when a cat was brought in to the Humane Society it was kept for a good NINE days before they even considered euthanizing it. Then, under new management they recently dropped that down to SIX days. Well guess what, now they've decided to do so after THREE days. God forbid you are on vacation and someone let your cat out, it's now dead. Well, if you think that's bad, get this! The Community Cat Coalition does an INCREDIBLE job volunteering by going around and professionally trapping feral cats. They even drive as far as Davidsonville Maryland, (just outside Annapolis) to have them spayed and neutered. So ALL of you know, once that process is done they clip the tip of one ear so that everyone knows they CANNOT reproduce and can be released back into the very area they were trapped in. Now you have these Idiots, (above) trapping innocent cats that have been fixed and that includes the Humane Society. After all the work the Cat Coalition does the humane society in all their wisdom and stupidity kills and murders these cats. Rather than these Facebook people reaching out to Jake Day asking for help when he can't keep his own house in order, go after the humane society and stop the killing. Stop donating food and money to these killers, murderers as these are NOT kind and gentle people. Their goal is to keep the cute ones and kill the not so cute ones. Screw them, shut them down if they can't do this right. Send your donations, food and support to the Community Cat Coalition instead as they are the ones who are actually doing everything to clean up the cat population by spay and neutering thousands upon thousands of cats. Trust me, what they do is far more complicated and difficult, (expensive) then simply putting cats down because it's the easy thing to do. I'll close with this. How dare the Humane Society KILL animals that have been fixed! This post better soar with anger because if you can't tell, I'M OUTRAGED and I will not stop until major changes happen. Furthermore, There is lots of blame to be shared. Number one on the original cat owner and I cannot emphasize this enough. Secondly the City of Salisbury is trapping TNR (trapped spayed/neutered & vaccinated) and sending them to the Humane Society which then has to figure out what to do with them. Officers should be educated to look for ear tipping (removal of the ear tip which is the sign for a TNR cat) and release the cat as it is already a feral cat living in a colony that is being cared for by people that are getting nothing but the financial burden of caring for a cat problem that they didn't create in the first place. The Humane Society should refuse to take any ear tipped cats and stop destroying the progress that the non-funded cat groups are making. And cat owners need to step up to the plate and get their pets neutered through these groups so their cat doesn't become part of the problem! If you want to help send donations to the cat heroes that have been correcting everyone's problems for free. Contact the Community Cat Coalition and see how you can help! 443-909-8047
