Is Obama's World A Utopian Myth?

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 09:00 PM PST

Speaking in Greece on his valedictory trip to Europe as president, Barack Obama struck a familiar theme:

"(W)e are going to have to guard against a rise in a crude form of nationalism, or ethnic identity, or tribalism that is built around an 'us' and a 'them' …

"(T)he future of humanity and the future of the world is going to be defined by what we have in common, as opposed to those things that separate us and ultimately lead us into conflict."

That the world's great celebrant of "diversity" envisions an even more multicultural, multiethnic, multiracial America and Europe is not news. This dream has animated his presidency.

But in this day of Brexit and president-elect Donald Trump new questions arise. Is Obama's vision a utopian myth? Have leaders like him and Angela Merkel lost touch with reality? Are not they the ones who belong to yesterday, not tomorrow?

"Crude nationalism," as Obama said, did mark that "bloodiest" of centuries, the 20th. But nationalism has also proven to be among mankind's most powerful, beneficial and enduring forces.

You cannot wish it away. To do that is to deny history, human nature and the transparent evidence of one's own eyes.

Which Stores Are Open On Thanksgiving & When Do They Open On Black Friday?

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 08:30 PM PST

Thanksgiving is usually the big day on the calendar in November, but this year the holiday took a backseat to Election Day — so much so that many people say they delayed the start of their holiday shopping until after the votes had been counted. Now here we are, with only a few days to go before Thanksgiving (and, more importantly to some folks, Black Friday); you'll need to know which stores are opening when in order to maximize your shopping efficiency.

Below is a list of more than three dozen of the nation's most popular retailers, along with information on whether that store will be open or closed on Thanksgiving, and when you can expect it to open on Black Friday.

Note that some of these — especially the stores that are most frequently found inside of shopping malls — have hours that can vary greatly depending on location. Additionally, some of the data is based on information we've been able to cobble together from store websites or by calling around to multiple locations.

If we get more precise information about the retailers with vague holiday hours, or if we hear from additional retailers about their hours, this list will be updated right up until we call it quits for the long weekend on Wednesday afternoon.

Obama Admin Fines Police Department For Not Hiring Non-Citizens

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 08:00 PM PST

"Eliminating this unlawful citizenship requirement will help ensure that the Denver Sheriff Department hires the best and most qualified individuals to protect and serve."

Denver County's sheriff office has been slapped with a fine by the Department of Justice (DOJ) because it refused to hire non-citizens as deputies.

From the beginning of 2015 through last March, the Denver Sheriff Department went on a major hiring binge, adding more than 200 new deputies. But those jobs ended up only going to citizens, because the department made citizenship a stated requirement on the job application. The department admitted as much in a new settlement with the U.S. government, which requires it to pay a $10,000 fine.

The department will also have to comb through all of its job applications from the past two years, identifying immigrants who were excluded from the hiring process and giving them due consideration.

"Eliminating this unlawful citizenship requirement will help ensure that the Denver Sheriff Department hires the best and most qualified individuals to protect and serve," DOJ Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Vanita Gupta said in a statement. "The entire community will benefit from these reforms."

Original Gerber baby celebrates her 90th birthday

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 06:30 PM PST

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — The original Gerber baby, Ann Turner Cook, celebrated her 90th birthday on Sunday.

In 1928, Cook was 4 months old and Gerber held a contest to find a face to represent a baby food advertising campaign, according to Gerber Life's website. Cook's neighbor, Dorothy Hope Smith, was an artist and she entered a charcoaled sketch of Cook as a baby. Gerber officials loved the sketch so much that they selected it as the winner and trademarked the image in 1931.

Above picture taken at 90th birthday celebration.
"The logo is the essence of who we are," said David Yates, vice president of Gerber's North America operations. "It is the epitome of a happy, healthy baby and the symbol of trust we have with parents. It's everything to our company."

1,500 Per Day: Border Patrol Opens Temp Facility to Accommodate Border Surge

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 06:00 PM PST

Immigration officials at the U.S. Mexico border have been forced to open a new temporary facility in Texas to accommodate a recent surge of illegal alien border crossers, a wave of nearly 1,500 people per day that once again threaten to overwhelm border patrol and create a housing crisis for thousands of alien families and children.

In October alone, Customs and Border Protection apprehended 46,197 illegal aliens crossing into the United States unlawfully via the Southwest U.S. border, including 13,124 members of family units and another 6,754 unaccompanied children. In fact, the number of family unit members apprehended in the first month of FY2017 is already 118 percent higher than those who were caught in October of last year.

Averaged out, border patrol caught about 1,490 illegal aliens per day in October.

Immigration officials said they're currently housing about 41,000 illegal aliens in detention centers that typically accommodate between 31,000 and 34,000 people.

Virginia’s overdose drug policy welcomed as a good start

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 05:30 PM PST

WASHINGTON — The heroin and opioid epidemic in Virginia has now reached unprecedented levels, and the state is taking action to make a lifesaving drug more accessible.

The state health commissioner, Dr. Marissa Levine, announced Monday that she has issued a standing order for naloxone, a drug that counteracts the effects of an opioid overdose. Now, any Virginian can walk into a pharmacy and ask for naloxone without a prescription.

Advocates applaud the state's decision, but some say it needs to take additional steps to curb this crisis, which is expected to take the lives of more than 1,000 Virginians this year alone.

Naloxone, which has the brand name of Narcan, can reverse an opioid overdose, and it has been used to save countless lives. Now that the drug is available without a prescription, officials hope more people will purchase the drug for themselves or loved ones who have substance dependency.

We Are Being Set Up For Higher Interest Rates, A Major Recession And A Giant Stock Market Crash

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 05:00 PM PST

Global bond investors have seen trillions of dollars of wealth wiped out since November 8th, and analysts are warning of another tough week ahead.

Since Donald Trump's victory on election night we have seen the worst bond crash in 15 years.

Global bond investors have seen trillions of dollars of wealth wiped out since November 8th, and analysts are warning of another tough week ahead. The general consensus in the investing community is that a Trump administration will mean much higher inflation, and as a result investors are already starting to demand higher interest rates. Unfortunately for all of us, history has shown that higher interest rates always cause an economic slowdown. And this makes perfect sense, because economic activity naturally slows down when it becomes more expensive to borrow money. The Obama administration had already set up the next president for a major recession anyway, but now this bond crash threatens to bring it on sooner rather than later.

For those that are not familiar with the bond market, when yields go up bond prices go down. And when bond prices go down, that is bad news for economic growth.

Judge blocks Obama-backed rule extending overtime pay

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 04:30 PM PST

A federal judge in Texas this evening blocked a U.S. Department of Labor rule extending overtime pay to more than 4 million U.S. workers.

The Obama-backed rule had been scheduled to take effect Dec. 1, and many employers nationwide had changed the way they pay workers to meet the requirements of the new rule.

The emergency, nationwide injunction may not permanently block the rule change, but does block its Dec. 1 mandatory implementation.

U.S. District Judge Amos Mazzant in Sherman heard arguments in the motion for a preliminary injunction on Nov. 16.

Parents of slain DNC staffer beg for information about son's death

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 04:00 PM PST

The parents of murdered Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich are vowing to not let his case go unforgotten and unsolved.

In a press conference Monday afternoon, Mary and Joel Rich, accompanied by GOP lobbyist Jack Burkman, begged the media for help in solving their son's case. Seth Rich was shot twice in the back and killed in July in what police say was a botched robbery — despite his wallet, phone and watch not being stolen.

In the months since the killing, no arrests have been made. But Mary Rich compared herself to a mother bear looking out for her cubs, saying she refuses to give up on the search.

"My cub is dead, but that doesn't mean anything. We will find his murderer," she said. "But, we need all of you to help us bring his murderer to justice."

"Obama Set Up The Next President For A Major Recession"... And A Giant Crash Is Comin

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 03:00 PM PST

The past many months have carried a lot of noise about the coming crash, about a tipping point that may be fast approaching. The economics are simply giving way, and they can't hold the illusion forever. Now that Donald Trump will be calling the shots, the money powers can usher in collapse if they wish, and have ready their scapegoat. It won't just be Trump the man or the president, but the people who elected him, who backed Brexit and who gave up on their system. The people who let loose the chaos that now consumes us.

Their rage, their anger and their desperation is brewing unrest. The ascent of populism in the political arena has put the establishment in retreat, and revealed, at last, a most dangerous atmosphere, from which collapse can properly precipitate … one in which all regulatory steadiness on the part of the system has been thrown off balance and out of whack by popular revolt. By the time the hammer falls, and the markets fall to the ground, the people rioting in the streets and losing their civility when ATMs stop working and store shelves go empty – these people will become the face of the disaster. The banks have been planning the next rise and fall for sometime; the next phase is all digital, and tightly monitored and controlled.
We Are Being Set Up For Higher Interest Rates, A Major Recession And A Giant Stock Market Crash

via Michael Snyder's Economic Collapse blog,

Since Donald Trump's victory on election night we have seen the worst bond crash in 15 years. The general consensus in the investing community is that a Trump administration will mean much higher inflation, and as a result investors are already starting to demand higher interest rates. So we generally don't want yields to go up.

MIKULSKI, CARDIN, WARNER INTRODUCE LEGISLATION TO ENSURE DEATH GRATUITIES FOR FEDERAL EMPLOYEES

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 02:30 PM PST

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) together with U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) and U.S. Senator Mark Warner (D-Va.)today announced they have introduced legislation to ensure that federal employees who are killed in the line of duty receive death gratuities and funeral expenses. Based on a report from the Office of Personnel Management, families were receiving $10,000 on the death of a loved one killed while serving their country. The $800 they received for a funeral was taken out of the lump sum gratuity, and the amount received had not been updated since 1966.

"I'm fighting on the front lines on behalf of federal employees just as hard as federal employees work each and every day on behalf of the American people," Senator Mikulski said. "If you are working hard every day for your country and you are killed in doing that duty, your country should do all it can to thank you. Federal employees have been undervalued and underappreciated for too long. Each and every day, federal employees stand up for America. That's why I continue to stand up for federal employees."

"Federal employees are hard-working, dedicated, and patriotic public servants. Even civilian employees often are put in harm's way, and federal employees have been killed on American soil," said Senator Cardin. "I'm proud to co-sponsor this long-overdue bill to update and standardize the death gratuity and funeral expenses. It's the least we can do for the families of those federal workers who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation."

"So many of our federal employees go above and beyond the call of duty every day to keep the government running, usually with little recognition and less fanfare. One of the small things we can do to show federal employees that their service is valued is ensure that their families will be fairly compensated if they are somehow killed in the line of duty. It's simply the right thing to do," said Senator Warner.

Maryland and Virginia are two of the states with the highest number of federal employees living and working in them. On average, 24 federal civilian employees are killed in the line of duty every year. The Death Gratuity Equity Act will ensure a standard minimum payment of $100,000 across all departments for any federal civilian employee killed in the line of duty. It will also allow up to $8,800 for funeral expenses in addition to the death gratuity, and neither amount can be taxed by the IRS. Both amounts are also tied to automatic cost-of-living adjustments. Additionally, more types of federal service will be included under death gratuities, including postal workers, census workers, Job Corps students, and Peace Corps volunteers.

In 2014, Senator Mikulski was able to provide death gratuities for the State Department employees killed in the 1998 bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya. Two Marylanders were killed in that attack, Julian Bartley, Sr. and his son, Jay.

Ex-Diplomat: Trump's Election Proves Mainstream Media Worthless

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 02:00 PM PST

Canadian ex-official eviscerates corporate media as biased, fake news

U.S. public distrust of the mainstream media, or MSM, is now so great that the more they attacked Donald Trump during the presidential election, the more his credibility and popularity grew, retired Canadian diplomat Patrick Armstrong told Sputnik.

One of the reasons Trump won was that the more the MSM reviled him, the more support he gained.

"If the liars accuse him of something, he must be innocent of it," Armstrong explained.

A survey by research firm TNS UK, commissioned by Sputnik and released Thursday, showed that 80 percent of Americans considered domestic media coverage of the 2016 campaign was biased toward one or the other of the major-party nominees.

Armstrong said he believed the 80 percent distrust figure was in reality too low and that an even higher percentage of Americans refused to believe the distortions they were fed through the New York and Washington-based national media.

"Why as few as 80 percent? The bias and general worthlessness of the MSM as a source of information has been apparent for years," he said.

Additional Troopers And Enforcement Planned For Holiday Period

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 01:30 PM PST

(PIKESVILLE, MD) – Extra Thanksgiving holiday traffic this week will include additional Maryland state troopers who will be using a variety of patrol initiatives to keep traffic moving, respond quickly to highway incidents and take appropriate enforcement action when violations are observed that threaten the safety of travelers.

Beginning Wednesday, troopers from each of the 23 Maryland State Police barracks who patrol every county will be focusing enforcement efforts on impaired driving, aggressive driving, speeding, distracted driving and other violations that often contribute to highway tragedies, especially during holiday seasons. Additional troopers will be working overtime assignments funded by highway safety grants from the Maryland Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.

Troopers from the JFK Highway Barrack patrol I-95 from north of Baltimore to the Delaware line. They will implement Operation Keep It Moving on Wednesday and again Sunday, as they focus on keeping the interstate traffic moving expeditiously and minimizing delays caused by crashes and traffic violations. Troopers will also be working high visibility patrols at the Maryland House and Chesapeake House rest areas to deter crime and assist travelers moving through the state.

Bel Air Barrack troopers will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in cooperation with the Harford County Traffic Task Force, which includes the Harford County Sheriff's Office, Bel Air Police, Aberdeen Police, and Havre de Grace Police departments. DUI saturation patrols will also be occurring during the week in high crash/DUI areas.

Troopers from the Golden Ring, Westminster and Waterloo Barracks will all be conducting DUI saturation patrols in their counties. Patrols will be occurring each day, from Wednesday through Sunday.

The Frederick, Hagerstown, Cumberland, and McHenry barracks are deploying extra troopers along I-70 and I-68, with the largest number of troopers working during the peak travel times on Wednesday and Sunday. Like troopers working other interstates, they will focus on keeping traffic moving and assisting motorists who need help.

Troopers on the Eastern Shore will be directing their heaviest enforcement to Rt. 50 and Rt. 13. Impaired driving and speed enforcement will be the priorities there.

Troopers from the Rockville, Forestville and College Park Barracks will have increased patrols on I-495, I-95 and I-270. Troopers are being warned to be extra vigilant, due to more than one dozen troopers being struck so far this year on the Capital Beltway alone. A trooper monitoring traffic on I-495 in Prince George's County last night was injured when a car left the highway and struck his marked patrol vehicle. The driver of the striking vehicle was arrested for impaired driving.

In addition to working enforcement in cooperation with local police departments, troopers will be working closely with personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration. SHA provides significant help arranging detours at crash sites and conducting courtesy patrols to assist motorists.

Drivers can check travel conditions and delays before traveling. SHA provides up-to-date traffic and road conditions at roads.maryland.gov, or chart.state.md.us. Traffic conditions are also available at md511.org, or by safely dialing 511 on your cell phone.

Troopers are urging travelers not to drive distracted and to make traffic safety their first priority whenever they are behind the wheel. Help us keep Maryland highways safe throughout this Thanksgiving weekend.

Howard Stern Backs Trump's Push For National Right To Carry

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 01:00 PM PST

On The Howard Stern Show last week, host Howard Stern questioned why concealed permit holders are only allowed to carry their guns in certain states and voiced support for Donald Trump's plan to use national reciprocity — or national right to carry — to remove such limitations.

As gun law currently stands, states set up agreements with other states whereby permit holders from a given state can only carry a gun for self-defense in other states with whom they have reciprocity. Under this scenario, a concealed permit holder driving from St. Louis, Missouri, to Louisville, Kentucky, on I-64 would be able to carry a gun in Missouri, Indiana, and Kentucky, but his license would not be recognized in Illinois, through which he must also drive on his way to Louisville.

According to the NRA-ILA, Stern opined on such a scenario, saying, "When you think about it, somebody is a legal and responsible gun owner – let's say in Massachusetts – why when he crosses the border is he suddenly an outlaw?"

National reciprocity fixes this by making the concealed carry permit from one state valid in all states, similar to a driver's license. Trump supports such a change, and when co-host Robin Quivers brought up Trump's position, Stern said, "Makes total sense. I support that."

Obama's Imposed Regulations Cost $1,300 Per Person!

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 12:00 PM PST

President Barack Obama has imposed hundreds of billions in regulatory burdens on the American people over the course of his presidency, at an average cost of $1,300 for every person in the U.S.

Billion-dollar rules, or mega-rules, are not very common. For instance, the Bush Administration put forth just 1.6 billion-dollar rules per year. Over the course of his eight year presidency, Bush enacted 12 mega-rules that imposed $35 billion in costs.

The Obama Administration puts forth an average of 3.25 mega-rules a year. His administration imposed $42 billion in mega-rules from just 2012 to 2014, managing to exceed Bush's tenure in just two years, American Action Forum (AAF) reports.

THINK FIRE SAFETY AT THANKSGIVING

Thanksgiving is the leading day of the year for home fires involving cooking equipment!

STATEWIDE  – The kitchen is the heart of every home and safety must be the first recipe to follow when preparing the family feast.  On Thanksgiving Day a lot of activities are occurring with friends and family in the home.  "Holidays are a time of celebration. Please follow these simple guidelines to ensure a fire safe Thanksgiving Day meal," states Maryland State Fire Marshal Brian S. Geraci.
·        Make sure your smoke alarms are working properly by testing them.  Additionally, ensure your guests are aware of all available exits if a fire would occur and have them meet at a designated location outside.
·        The leading cause of fires in the kitchen is unattended cooking.  Stay in the kitchen when you are cooking on the stovetop so you can keep an eye on the food.
·        Establish:  A three foot, "Kids & Pets Free Zone" around any area where hot foods or drinks are prepared.  Have activities that keep kids out of the kitchen during this busy time.  Provide games, puzzles, books, etc. outside of the kitchen to keep them busy.  Kids can also be involved with preparations with recipes that can be made outside of the kitchen area.  Just in case, ensure you turn handles inward on the stove and countertop to avoid spills.
·        Keep a lid nearby when you are cooking to smother small grease fires.  Smother the fire by sliding the lid over the pan and turn off the burner, and then leave the pan covered until it has cooled.
·        Keep anything combustible - oven mitts, wooden utensils, food packaging, towels, etc. away from the stovetop.
·        Eliminate clutter in the kitchen.  A clean work area allows for better efficiency and less chances for mishaps.
·        Keep matches and lighters out of reach of curious children's hands.
·        Do not leave lit candles unattended or in places where they could be knocked over by children or pets.
.        Maintain a three foot safety zone around any portable heating device.  Keep the zone free of combustible materials, and block children and pets from getting to close.

Turkey Fryer Safety

·        Many turkey fryer appliances can be easily tipped over, allowing for hot oil spillage.  Ensure you place them on a hard, level and non-combustible outdoor surface.
·        Do not place a turkey fryer under an overhang or temporary roof.  A flare up can easily ignite materials above the appliance.
·        Partially frozen turkeys can cause a spill over and result in a flare-up.  Thoroughly thaw the turkey before cooking.
·        Turn off the burner before placing the turkey in the container.  Re-ignite the burner after you are sure it is safe to do so.
·        Constantly monitor the temperature of the oil.  It can easily reach temperatures to the point of combustion.
·        Be careful not to overfill the fryer.  Follow manufacturer's guidelines for proper filling levels.
·        The handles and lid will get dangerously hot.  Use well insulated potholders or oven mitts.
·        Never leave the fryer unattended while cooking.  Keep an all-purpose (ABC) fire extinguisher on hand.  Do not use water in an attempt to extinguish a grease fire.
Following these simple guidelines for fire and life safety will help to ensure a tragedy free holiday meal.  Have a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving!

Congressman Harris Condemns Actions of Baltimore County Superintendent

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 10:42 AM PST

WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) urged Baltimore County Superintendent, Dr. S. Dallas Dance, to consider the repercussions of his troubling actions on election night. On November 8th, Superintendent Dance used his official twitter account to express concern for certain racial and religious groups, while excluding other groups that were the subject of campaign rhetoric as well.

"As a member of the House Appropriations subcommittee that deals with federal funding of education, I am always concerned with how taxpayer monies meant to educate students (and not to advance a political agenda) are being used," Dr. Harris wrote. "I am particularly concerned when taxpayer funds are being used to discriminate based on race or religion."

Italy migrant crisis - Women reveal they are scared to leave house

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 10:15 AM PST

Frightened females have taken to the streets to protest against the opening of a new refugee reception centre, which will welcome the arrival of more than 250 asylum seekers.

In front of the group are banners emblazoned with the powerful message: "No security, no freedom" as shockwaves are sent across the entire community of Aurelio in Rome.

Ilaria, 20, said: "We didn't want the opening of a new centre.

"It is not easy to get around this neighbourhood at night.

"You feel followed, you feel observed. It is not safe here anymore. "

Soon-to-be-mother Eleanor, 30, added: "I no longer dare to go home alone in the evening, I call my husband after dark."

Another slogan to support the protest read: "Some Italians do not give up."

One protestor, 63-year-old grandmother Simonetta claims she witnessed a migrant man masturbating in broad daylight. She added: "We must defend ourselves".

HUD Keeps Screwing Up Books

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 09:53 AM PST

Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) officials refuse to explain why they haven't fixed poor accounting practices and useless financial books their inspector general (IG) has been exposing for four years.

It's not clear whether HUD officials understand what they're doing is wrong because, their spokesman, Brian Sullivan, told The Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group that "HUD does apply generally accepted accounting standards."

Not so, said the IG, whose most recent audit found 11 "material weaknesses," seven "significant deficiencies" in internal controls, and five instances of "noncompliance with applicable laws and regulations."

President Elect Slams Smug Media in Face-to-Face at Trump Tower

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 09:45 AM PST

'We're in a room of liars, the deceitful dishonest media who got it all wrong'

President-elect Donald Trump invited members of the mainstream media to Trump Tower Monday for an off-the-record pow-wow some described as an "f-ing firing squad."

Believing they were in for a discussion about the media's access to Trump, the presidents of NBC News, MSNBC and CNN, in addition to various other media figures, were treated instead to a brutal tongue-lashing.

"It was like a f–ing firing squad," a source told The New York Post, adding that Trump specifically singled out CNN boss Jeff Zucker saying, "I hate your network."

"Trump started with [CNN chief] Jeff Zucker and said 'I hate your network, everyone at CNN is a liar and you should be ashamed,' " the source said.

"The meeting was a total disaster. The TV execs and anchors went in there thinking they would be discussing the access they would get to the Trump administration, but instead they got a Trump-style dressing down," the source added.

Correctional Officer Pleads Guilty In Racketeering Case

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 09:37 AM PST

A second correctional officer pleaded guilty Tuesday to a federal racketeering conspiracy charge.

Stephen Wise, 34, of Pocomoke was charged in the massive contraband and drug smuggling conspiracy at the Eastern Correctional Institution, the largest state prison in Maryland.

Wise admitted to smuggling contraband in exchange for bribes from a prison gang leader affiliated with Dead Man Incorporated. On July 31, Wise had that leader arrange the assault of an inmate who had complained about Wise that led him to be removed from the housing unit. At the time he was taken out of the housing unit, Wise had taken $1,500 in bribes for contraband that hadn't yet been brought in. Later the same day, the inmate at issue was assaulted and stabbed by several members of the Cripps prison gang, who had been paid $500 to do so by the gang leader.

Hate Hoax: Student Charged for Claiming Rock Attack by Trump Fans

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 09:15 AM PST

A black, female Bowling Green State University student allegedly fabricated a hate crime story about white, male President-Elect Donald Trump supporters attacking her on campus and is now being charged for faking a police report.

The day after Trump's presidential victory, Eleesha Long told Bowling Green police that she had been attacked by three men wearing Trump gear who "began to throw rocks" at her, according to ABC13.

Long took to her Facebook page to share the story, describing in detail what each Trump supporter was wearing and giving a description of as to where the alleged hate crime had occurred, but never actually called the police.

Long's Facebook post went viral and her father notified law enforcement after he said he was not able to get in touch with her. Local detectives took Long into police headquarters and asked her to share details of the described hate crime.

Long reportedly began telling police multiple stories about the incident, to include changing the location of the alleged incident.

"Several times the complainant changed her story about what happened, where it happened, and when it happened," Lt. Dan Mancuso told ABC13.

Students Face Disciplinary Action After Hoaxing ‘KKK’ Vandalism

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 09:07 AM PST

Two Williams College students are now facing disciplinary action after hoaxing vandalism which appeared to be Ku Klux Klan (KKK) inspired days after the 2016 Election.
The two students, whom the college has not publicly named, poured fake blood on staircases of a building and spelled out "AMKKK KILL" on the walls, according to the Williams Record.

On the day that the vandalism was discovered, campus organizations had to cancel meetings in the building as a result.

Shortly thereafter, local police were notified of the vandalism and began investigating the incident, even getting the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and Massachusetts State Police involved in the case.

After investigating more than 40 persons of interest, police concluded that two students performed the act as a statement against President-Elect Donald Trump.

Williams College President Adam Falk said in a statement that the two students admitted "they had committed the vandalism to bring attention to the effects of the presidential election on many within our community."

Dear Main Stream media

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 09:00 AM PST

I think we all get it, you don't like President Elect Donald Trump. I think we also now get the fact that you simply can't let go of the fact that Donald Trump, (against all odds) actually won the election.

However, when I watch broadcasts where you go to a Chinese manufacturing plant in the U.S. where they took over a GM Plant and as you claim may end up hiring "thousands" of Americans, yet you claim Trump is against the Chinese, you show just how ONE SIDED you are in yet another bias story. To PLANT in peoples minds they will eventually hire "thousands" is just plain BS. I'll tell you what. How about you just start telling the truth first and when they grow from hundreds to thousands you come back and expose the TRUTH when it actually happens.

You do NOT show how many BILLIONS of products come into America, while American products get denied export to China. Your reporting just plain sucks and needs to be stopped.

Ladies & Gentlemen, THINK! The majority of people now watching the daily news are older. Many of the people viewing these programs still get a daily newspaper, but they're dropping off quickly. We are experienced Americans who are not stupid. While we have tolerated this crazy form of brain washing, times are a changing and we're starting to fight back.

The MSM is trying to convince all of us that they can not only read the mind of our next President, they do so almost convincingly just to stir the pot and act as if they're trying to pamper the Clinton crowd. Even our local news stations are proving every day they cannot and will not support our newly elected President, yet were so proud to have elected our first "black President" not once, but twice. NOW all of a sudden they are now calling Obama "HALF WHITE".

Perhaps this upcoming year Salisbury News returns to a daily news broadcast that will compete with our local media. We have already started making changes for 2017 and I think this will be the right time to compete with the local MSM on their own turf.

So the question here is, are you tired of the Main Stream Media, (MSM) attempting to brain wash you on a daily basis with false and fabricated stories?

Hillary Rodham Clinton Just Got BAD NEWS – She Thought It Couldn’t Get Any Worse…

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 08:46 AM PST

Looks like Hillary's legal woes are not going away any time soon. I'm so not broken up over that. Call me heartless. I think that Judicial Watch and others ought to hound her to the grave and beyond. And I think President Trump should appoint a Special Prosecutor to nail her ass. Just because she lost the election, doesn't mean she is absolved of her crimes. She was guilty then and she's guilty now. Let justice be done for a change.

The Clintons are running the world's largest money laundering scheme and slush fund. The Clinton Machine has sought to shake down every country in the world, as well as every wealthy donor that wanted a favor in return. They have stalled releasing evidence for years just trying to run out the clock so they would never have to answer for their crimes. They have left a trail of corruption over decades and Hillary Clinton is complicit in the murders of four Americans in Benghazi. She has repeatedly violated the Espionage Act. Anyone else would have been in prison long ago for the list of crimes the Clintons are undeniably guilty of.

Correctional Officer and Two Others Plead Guilty to Racketeering Conspiracy at Eastern Correctional Institution

Correctional Officer Also Admits Civil Rights Violation for Her Participation in the Stabbing of an Inmate

Baltimore, Maryland – Correctional Officer Rachelle Hankerson, age 26, of Salisbury, Maryland; Ramel Chase, age 34, of Glen Burnie, Maryland; and Miguel Matos, age 46, of Ft. Washington, Maryland, pleaded guilty this week to racketeering conspiracy operating at the Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover, Maryland. Hankerson also pleaded guilty to deprivation of rights under color of law for participating in the stabbing of an inmate.

The guilty pleas were announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Gordon B. Johnson of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Baltimore Field Office; Postal Inspector in Charge Terrence P. McKeown of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service - Washington Division; Secretary Stephen T. Moyer of the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services; and Colonel William M. Pallozzi, Superintendent of the Maryland State Police.

According to their plea agreements and court documents, the Eastern Correctional Institution (ECI) is the largest state prison in Maryland, operating since 1987 near Westover, in Somerset County, on Maryland's Eastern Shore. During the conspiracy, Hankerson was a Correctional Officer (CO) at ECI, Chase was an inmate, and Matos was the father of an inmate at ECI.

Hankerson admitted that she accepted payments from facilitators and inmates to smuggle contraband into ECI, including narcotics, cell phones and tobacco. Hankerson charged at least $500 per package of contraband she smuggled into ECI. Hankerson also admitted that she approached a co-defendant who was a member of the Bloods gang at ECI for whom she smuggled contraband, and asked the inmate to confront inmate D.S., with whom Hankerson had had a verbal dispute. Hankerson twice allowed her co-defendant onto the tier where D.S. was housed. The second time that the co-defendant entered D.S.'s cell he violently attacked D.S., stabbing him multiple times. Another inmate told Hankerson about the violent confrontation, but rather than notifying prison authorities, Hankerson left the area. She later told an inmate to provide a false story to prison authorities that Hankerson had not been on the tier when the attack occurred.

Chase admitted that he bribed and attempted to bribe COs to smuggle contraband, including narcotics, into ECI. Chase managed a contraband smuggling and distribution network involving co-defendants and others. Matos admitted that he facilitated his son's contraband smuggling in ECI by obtaining narcotics and other contraband and transferring it to co-conspirators who smuggled it into the facility. In addition, Matos performed financial transactions in furtherance of the smuggling.

Law enforcement intercepted multiple calls in which Hankerson, Chase, Matos and others working with them discussed contraband, arranging meetings with correctional officers, and payment for contraband. In calls between Matos and his son, investigators overheard them discussing COs who smuggled contraband into ECI for them. Matos was also overheard discussing the packaging and delivery of contraband with a supplier.

The defendants each face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for the racketeering conspiracy. Hankerson also faces a maximum of 10 years in prison for deprivation of rights under color of law for her participation in the stabbing of an inmate. U.S. District Judge James K. Bredar has scheduled sentencing for Matos on February 24, 2017, at 10:00 a.m.; for Hankerson on March 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.; and for Chase on January 17, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.

The U.S. Attorney expressed appreciation to Secretary Moyer whose staff initiated the ECI investigation and who has made the full resources of the DPSCS available to assist the three-year investigation. U.S. Attorney Rosenstein also recognized the efforts of the Maryland Prison Task Force which has brought together federal, state and local agencies in meetings to generate reforms in prison procedures and facilitate joint investigations of prison corruption and prison gangs. Mr. Rosenstein thanked the members of the Maryland Prison Task Force and the and other agencies who assisted in this investigation and prosecution.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the FBI, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, the Baltimore Police Department and Maryland State Police for their work in the investigation. Mr. Rosenstein thanked Assistant U.S. Attorneys Leo J. Wise, Robert R. Harding, and Daniel C. Gardner, who are prosecuting this Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force case.

Trump met with Carson at Trump Tower on Tuesday, presumably to discuss the Cabinet-level position. Carson had previously been floated as a possible Secretary of Education or Health and Human Services.

World Suffers From Trump Shell Shock: Here’s What Will Happen Next

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 07:45 AM PST

I've been saying this for a long time, and I'll say it again here — in life there are only two kinds of people: those who know and those who don't. Some might claim there is a third option: those who don't want to know. In any case, if you want to be able to foresee geopolitical and social trends, you have to be one of the people who know.

Above all else, in order to know you must be willing to step outside of the confusion and theater of the circus and look at developments from above. If you are biased and retain too many sacred cows you will never understand how the world works. You will be too busy trying to reinforce your own fantasies to see anything else.

Beyond this, you must also understand that political and social developments are not random; they are either reactions to deliberate policies of special interests or they are driven by policies of special interests. Therefore, these developments are predictable and can be calculated (to a point).

I usually refer to these "special interests" as global elites, or globalists, because that is how they often refer to themselves. The point is, most of the events you see in the political world are engineered events designed to elicit a specific psychological response from you and the people around you. You are not a human being to these people; you are either an asset to be molded or an obstacle to be disposed of. This is how our world works. Period. And until we fully understand this and accept it, things will never change.

So, to be clear, if you understand the minds of globalists and understand what they want, you can understand the basic direction of the future.

Defense contractors see optimism return, buoyed by Trump win

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 07:30 AM PST

Defense contractors in Maryland are optimistic that a long spell of tightened federal budgets that winnowed their bottom lines is nearing an end — a hope that some executives say has been boosted by the election of Donald Trump.

Trump promised during the campaign to increase defense spending, increase the number of soldiers in the Army, build new ships for the Navy and buy new jets for the Air Force.

If he follows through, that's likely to mean more money for contractors.

Officials and business owners also hope that having a single party — in this case, the Republicans — in control of both the White House and Congress will put an end to the fiscal brinkmanship of the last six years, restore orderly federal budgeting and allow the military to plan for the long term, rather than relying on a succession of short-term spending bills.

The Long War Of The Trump Presidency Has Only Just Begun

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 07:15 AM PST

After a week managing the transition, vice president-elect Mike Pence took his family out to the Broadway musical "Hamilton."

As Pence entered the theater, a wave of boos swept over the audience. And at the play's end, the Aaron Burr character, speaking for the cast and the producers, read a statement directed at Pence:

"(W)e are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir. But we truly hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values."

In March, the casting call that went out for actors for roles in this musical celebration of "American values" read:

"Seeking NON-WHITE men and women."

The arrogance, the assumed posture of moral superiority, the conceit of our cultural elite, on exhibit on that stage Friday night, is what Americans regurgitated when they voted for Donald Trump.

Yet the conduct of the "Hamilton" cast puts us on notice. The left neither accepts its defeat nor the legitimacy of Trump's triumph.

His presidency promises to be embattled from Day One.

Iranian Navy Deploys Warships in Atlantic Ocean

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 07:00 AM PST

"For the first time, the 44th flotilla comprised of Alvand and Bushehr destroyers could sail around the African continent and enter the Atlantic Ocean," Admiral Sayyari told reporters in Tehran on Monday.

"The two destroyers are now deployed in Durban Harbor (South Africa)," he added.

Noting that deployment of the 44th flotilla of warships in the international waters indicates the Iranian Navy's might and power, Admiral Sayyari said, "In addition to that, 5 fleets of warships have also been sent to other countries so far with a message of peace and friendship."

Back in 2014, Admiral Sayyari had announced the country's plans to deploy troops in the Atlantic Ocean.

"The Iranian Navy will definitely be present in the Atlantic Ocean in the near future," Admiral Sayyari told reporters on the sidelines of his meeting with foreign military attaches in Tehran at the time.

He noted that conducting reciprocal visits to other countries, including the coastal countries of the Indian Ocean and the African countries, and exchanging naval visits and voyages are among the Navy's programs.

"We are ready to hold joint naval drills with the neighboring countries as well," Admiral Sayyari said.

Election is over but the Clinton emails keep coming

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 06:53 AM PST

Hillary Clinton didn't shy away from expressing her feelings in her first public appearance since conceding to the president-elect a week ago. "I will admit coming here tonight wasn't the easiest thing for me. There have been a few times this past week where all I wanted to do was curl up with a good book or our dogs and never leave the house again," she said in her speech at the Children's Defense Fund's Beat the Odds celebration in Washington, D.C. Clinton urged the crowd to keep America's children in mind and fight for them in this "new and uncertain future." CSPAN NEW YORK You thought just because Hillary Clinton lost that the email releases would stop? Wrong. Judicial Watch recently received 508 pages of documents, including emails, that the conservative group says shows possible conflicts of interest between Hillary Clinton's State Department and her husband, former President Bill Clinton. Expect periodic releases of records to continue through 2018, even though many Clinton critics have moved on following Donald Trump's victory. Judicial Watch – as well as other groups, including Citizens United – and news organizations had filed numerous lawsuits seeking the emails of Clinton and her top aides while she was the nation's top diplomat after their public records requests went unanswered. The just released Judicial Watch documents stem from a 2013 lawsuit against the State Department. "It is a scandal that the Obama administration stalled the release of these smoking gun documents for over five years," Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said. "These documents show that Hillary and Bill Clinton's machine sought to shake down almost every country in the world, from Saudi Arabia to desperately poor Haiti." More

HANNITY: Ignore Media, Haters and Listen to Backers

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 06:45 AM PST

Ever since the election night, the press has been looking for excuses and explanations as to how they got the outcome so wrong and why their anointed candidate, Hillary Clinton, lost.

The latest pathetic attempt from the blatantly biased media is to blame President-elect Donald Trump's victory on fake news stories. CNN, MSNBC and NBC all suggested in recent days that Trump won and Clinton lost because voters were tricked by phony online stories.

"Did the spread of fake news on the Web help elect Donald Trump?" CNN's Brian Stelter mused Saturday. "We may never know for sure. But researchers are asking the question because made-up false stories are polluting people's Facebook timelines and Twitter streams."

Nasty attacks from the alt-radical left are, unfortunately, just beginning. Let's face it, there's going to be a continuous onslaught of vile, divisive rhetoric coming from the left.

So with that in mind, here's my advice unsolicited for Trump and Pence: Ignore it. Keep focusing on the promises you made to what I call the forgotten men and women in this election.

Ignore the haters and remember the forgotten men and women. They're the ones who voted..

Williams: Trump and College Chaos

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 06:37 AM PST

If one needed more evidence of the steep decay in academia, Donald Trump's victory provided it. Let's begin by examining the responses to his win, not only among our wet-behind-the-ears college students, many of whom act like kindergarteners, but also among college professors and administrators.

The University of Michigan's distressed students were provided with Play-Doh and coloring books, as they sought comfort and distraction. A University of Michigan professor postponed an exam after many students complained about their "serious stress" over the election results. Cornell University held a campus-wide "cry-in," with officials handing out tissues and hot chocolate.

One Cornell student said, "I'm looking into flights back to Bangladesh right now so I can remove myself before Trump repatriates me."

The College Fix reported that "a dorm at the University of Pennsylvania ... hosted a post-election 'Breathing Space' for students stressed out by election results that included cuddling with cats and a puppy, coloring and crafting, and snacks such as tea and chocolate."

Md. Democrats look for ways to influence GOP-run Congress

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 06:30 AM PST

WASHINGTON (AP) — Despite the return of Republican majorities in both houses of Congress in January, Maryland's Democrats still plan to find ways of influencing policy debates and legislation.

In fact, even with some new faces in the Maryland congressional delegation, it is in roughly the same position it was in before the Nov. 8 election, with one major difference: Republican Donald Trump will replace Democrat Barack Obama in the White House.

Senator-elect Chris Van Hollen and Sen. Ben Cardin will be among the 48 Democratic senators tasked with trying to defend Obama's health care legacy as well as other domestic and foreign policy achievements and entitlement programs. The Marylanders say they also will oppose any Republican effort to restrict women's rights and will seek to keep the issue of economic inequality in the forefront.

Trump Could Slash $500 Million from Public Broadcasting

With President-elect Trump promising to pay for his infrastructure and defense spending by defunding non-essential federal spending, one of the first programs on the block could be the almost $500 million spent on public broadcasting.

Despite repeated efforts to kill federal funding of public broadcasting since Republicans won the House in 2010 and Presidential-nominee Mitt Romney made it a campaign promise in 2012, the U.S. Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education are spending $470.7 million in U.S. taxpayer cash to fund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) this year, which provides 15 percent of PBS television and 10 percent of NPR radio broadcasting funding.

Although their charter requires strict non-partisan programing, the public broadcasters are accused of leaning left. An NPR article described the 2016 election results as "nostalgia for a whiter America."

After Joel Pollak, who serves as Breitbart's Senior Editor-at-Large and In-house Counsel, defended its Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon from false and defamatory claims of antisemitism and "white nationalism" in a Nov. 16 interview, NPR's ombudsman/public editor Elizabeth Jensen recommended that the taxpayer-funded radio news service bar future live interviews of conservatives, who may be "normalizing hate speech." Instead, guests with presumably controversial views should be pre-taped, she said, so that their opinions might be "contextualized."

Nick Cannon: Planned Parenthood is committing ‘real genocide’ against black people

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 06:15 AM PST

The word "genocide" gets thrown around a lot by social justice warriors these days, but rapper Nick Cannon said Planned Parenthood and its enablers in the Democratic Party are committing "real genocide" against black people in America.

In an interview with "The Breakfast Club," a New York City-based radio show, the entertainer expressed dissatisfaction with both candidates for president this election cycle.

When asked President-elect Donald Trump's plan to appoint pro-life justices to the Supreme Court, Mr. Cannon said the high rate of abortion in black communities is "real genocide."

"Everybody — Hillary was sneaking and cheating," Mr. Cannon said. "Think about all the stuff they did with Planned Parenthood and all of that type of stuff. That type of stuff is to take our community and — forget gentrification, it's real genocide. And it's been like that for years."

Planned Parenthood was founded by Margaret Sanger, a eugenicist who sought to prevent "biologically unfit" people from having children through increased access to birth control.

BET Founder: Trump is ‘Committed to Reaching Out’ to Black Americans

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 06:07 AM PST

Bob Johnson, the founder of Black Entertainment Television (BET), says he is confident that President-elect Donald Trump will have a positive impact on the lives of African-Americans.
Johnson met with Trump in New Jersey on Sunday, and told CNN that he left the meeting "understanding that President Trump is committed to reaching out to African-Americans."

A billionaire media magnate, Johnson supported Hillary Clinton's failed White House run. During their meeting, Johnson offered Trump advice on how to connect with black voters.

Johnson shrugged off concerns about racist Trump supporters.

"I know that there are people like that in America," he said. "It's been that way ever since slavery existed in this country and they're not going to go away tomorrow or the next day."

Johnson also implored black Americans to "find common ground with President-elect Trump."

"We ought to do it in the best interest of African-Americans and the best interest of the country," he said.

Judge blocks Obama overtime rule

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 06:00 AM PST

A Texas judge on Tuesday blocked President Obama's new rule intended to force companies to pay workers more overtime, agreeing with businesses that the administration overstepped its authority and that only Congress could approve such an expansion of the federal overtime law.

Business groups cheered the emergency injunction for the expansion, which was scheduled to start Dec. 1. "This is a victory for small business owners and should give them some breathing room until the case can be properly adjudicated," said Juanita Duggan, president of the National Federation of Independent Business, a small-business trade group that opposed the rule.

Federal law says employees must be paid time-and-a-half once they work more than 40 hours in a week. However, businesses may exempt workers from the requirement if their duties are "managerial" in nature and they reach a certain salary threshold.

In May, the Labor Department announced that that threshold, previously $23,000 annually, would rise to more than $47,000 on Dec. 1, and would be updated every three years to reflect wage growth. The administration's rule change would have meant that 4 million more workers would be eligible for overtime. Because it was an administrative reinterpretation of the existing Fair Labor Standards Act, the White House said that the change did not require congressional approval.

UVA Police Officer Forced to Resign over Saying 'Make America Great Again'

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 05:45 AM PST

A police officer in the University of Virginia system was forced to resign after students claimed that he used his vehicle's PA system to shout "Make America Great Again" on the evening of Donald Trump's surprise victory over Hillary Clinton.

Student protesters demanded the removal of the officer from his post on the grounds that he abused his authority as a university officer. The incident allegedly occurred at 1:50 AM, as the result of the election became more apparent and students had begun to make their way back to their dorm rooms.

"I was disappointed to learn of reports that UPD personnel allegedly used the public address system in their vehicle inappropriately following the results of the election in the early morning hours on Wednesday," UPD Police Chief Michael Gibson said in a Nov. 10 email response to concerns over the incident.

The Left on Trump

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 05:15 AM PST

For members of this list serve to debate Trump's place in the right wing continuum, whether it is far to the right, even approaching Fascism, or whether Trump is merely a loudmouth, in my opinion, is conceding to the left that Trump might be a threat to American life.
An inquiry into Fascist elements in American life should look at the left.

Consider the following:

1. The radicals who caused disturbances at Trump's rallies echoed Mussolini's blackshirts who disrupted the peaceful political gatherings of their opponents.

2. The mass demonstrations rejecting the Trump election hark back to the Fascists who refused to accept their minority status and resorted to violence to overturn the results of free elections. Republicans did not demonstrate in 2008 and 2012 when Obama won and they would have been similarly resigned, if Hillary had won.

3. Most distressing of all is the left's demonization of the opposition -- another tactic from the Fascist playbook. Mussolini defined his opponents as unpatriotic Communists, even when their only fault was dissent, and he jailed them. Demonization reached its apogee with Hitler who, as we all know, lied and lied about the Jews. Hate was a Nazi specialty.

Let's look at demonization -- American style. Trump's supporters are accused of being racist, xenophobic, anti-Semitic, stupid, and full of hatred. What evidence do leftists give for this demonization. Instead of evidence, leftists present lies. They accuse Republicans of hating immigrants. The fact is that Trump and his supporters are not opposed to immigration; they are opposed to illegal immigration. The whole leftist indictment of Trump on this issue is a colossal misstatement and a hateful lie.

Then there is Trump's alleged hatred of Muslims. Trump has said that Muslims refugees from the Middle East should be carefully vetted to weed out terrorists. Is this not common sense? But the left prefers to lie about Trump and Muslims. As for African Americans, Jews, and gays, Trump said nothing about them in the campaign.

Vicious lying about a targeted group is hate, and a mainspring of Fascism.

There is hate in today's America -- lots of it -- and it comes from those who proclaim love and tolerance while they demonize Trump's supporters.

4. Finally, the left has gone beyond lying and hating. It has been punishing dissenters. The IRS has given a rough time to right-wing organizations and when Congress asked questions, the IRS claimed its computers had crashed. The leftist media and Democratic politicians ignored this obvious fiction because they approved of the persecution. We can only imagine how a President Hillary Clinton would have intensified this persecution -- while the lapdog, liberal media, with The New York Times in the vanguard, would see little, if anything.

Trump, Pence address potential of Romney, Mattis in Cabinet

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 05:00 AM PST

President-elect Donald Trump says he's made "a couple of deals" after spending the weekend meeting with a long list of potential administration appointees.

BEDMINSTER, N.J. (AP) —
President-elect Donald Trump said Sunday that he had "made a couple of deals" after spending the weekend meeting with a long list of potential administration appointees, but he did not reveal any more picks.

Trump and the vice president-elect, Mike Pence, did drop some hints. Pence said that Mitt Romney was "under active and serious consideration" to become the nation's next secretary of state. Trump said retired Marine Corps Gen. James Mattis was an "impressive" prospect for defense secretary.

"I think we have some really incredible people going to be working for the country," Trump said Sunday evening. "We really had some incredible meetings. You'll be hearing about them soon."

Among the visitors to the white-pillared clubhouse Sunday were Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, billionaire investor Wilbur Ross and retired Marine Gen. John Kelly, the former commander of U.S. Southern Command.

Want to Stop Fake News Websites? Go Where The Money Is: Google AdSense & Content Recommendation Widgets

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 04:30 AM PST

Since the Presidential election two weeks ago, there has been an enormous amount of consternation and hand-wringing over highly-profitable websites that make up completely fake political news stories that spread like wildfire on the Internet.

Buzzfeed, Daily Dot, The New York Times and The Washington Post have recently done feature stories on fake news sites like WorldPoliticus.com, BVANews.com,LibertyWritersNews.com, ABCNews.com.co and 70News.Wordpress.com (a Wordpress.com domain name apparently isn't enough of a tip-off that this isn't a legitimate news source) that are making tens of thousands of dollars per month by focusing on fake stories that accomplish two things:

#1: Make potential readers mad enough to click the headline

and

#2: Share said fake news with their friends

So far, the focus has been on stopping fake news stories from going viral via crackdowns by Facebook's news algorithm and Google search, and also taking more individual responsibility for what you read and share, which CNN's Brian Stelter dubbed, "Refuse to be confused."

While that's certainly an admirable call to action, fake and salacious news will always be irresponsibly spread — just look at the tabloid industry. These fake news websites will just keep making shit up as long as there's money to be had. So I think infamous criminal Willie Sutton had a better idea: "Go where the money is."

If we want fake news to stop misinforming the public, the most efficient way to do that is stop them from making a small fortune off feeding us bullshit. And the best way to do that is to report every website you find that peddles fake news to the people paying them.

While Google and Facebook have both said they are banning fake news websites from their advertising platforms, both companies are famously opaque about how they plan to execute their plans and most publishers don't make any money off Facebook.

The two biggest sources of income for fake news websites are:

Indian River School District referendum fails in close vote

Posted: 23 Nov 2016 03:37 AM PST

Residents in the Indian River School District narrowly defeated a tax hike referendum Tuesday.

The district reports it's effort to raise an additional $7.4 million lost by a razor thin 30-vote margin – with 3,321 for and 3,351 against. The state Elections Department website reports an even closer unofficial vote of 3,321 for and 3,341 against - a mere 20 vote difference.

The plan sought to increase taxes 49 cents per $100 of assessed property value, which District officials said would have added $95 a year to the average taxpayer's bill.
