SAVE THE DATE: It’s Greenery Workshop Time Once More!

On Saturday Dec. 7 the folks at Pemberton Hall Foundation and Westside Historical Society will again offer a workshop in making your own natural greenery Christmas decorations. This has become a popular annual event at Pemberton Historical Park, reminiscent of the busy weeks on the Eastern Shore in the 1800s and early 1900s when folks here made thousands of wreaths to sell from Philadelphia to Norfolk! Boxcar loads of the pungent decorative greenery were delivered daily to mid-Atlantic cities.

Now, here is your chance to learn to make beautiful wreaths, swags and other decorative pieces for the Holidays! All the greens and materials needed will be provided by these two sponsoring heritage organizations, plus hands-on instruction. At the same time some interesting bits of the history of the commercial importance of the harvesting and creation of natural greenery here on the Eastern Shore. For many years in the 1800s and early 1900s local farmers made a tidy profit to carry their families over the winter by cutting holly, cedar, and other greens, fashioning them into hundreds of beautiful wreaths, and shipping them to nearby regions. This workshop will teach the same methods, using natural materials to make the finished product. No prior experience is necessary!

Classes will be held in the Education Building at Pemberton Historical Park (on Pemberton Drive) and will begin at 10 am and run until about 2pm. Space is limited to the number of work tables available at any given time, so there could be a short wait. No decorations such as ribbons or ornaments will be provided/included in the fee, but some ribbons may be available to purchase. Or, if the crafter wishes to include these they can be brought along and the instructors will assist in attaching them to the finished product. Some folks in recent classes also attached real fruits (lemons, apples) and instructors can help with this as well – just bring your own items.

The cost for making one item is $15, but crafters may choose to make more than one item, with the cost being $15 each. Free refreshments will be provided , and both heritage organizations will have a number of gift items for sale. DC Councilman Jack Evans Was Paid Hundreds Of Thousands To Use His Position To Benefit Private Clients, Probe Finds

Washington, D.C., Councilman Jack Evans used his position to benefit private clients who paid him hundreds of thousands of dollars, according to a council investigation.

A report released Monday by O'Melveny & Myers, the law firm hired by the D.C. Council to investigate the Democrat's dealings, noted 11 examples of governing ethics violations by Evans since 2014, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

Evans, D.C.'s longest-serving lawmaker and former chairman of the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority (WMTA), "repeatedly participated in his official capacity in 'particular matters' in which his outside employers or his personal clients had direct financial interests, failing to recognize the inherent conflict that should have been disclosed and addressed," the report stated, according to WaPo.

NYC Citizens Set Fire To Trash, Dump Rotting Food On Parked Police Car In Brooklyn

Emboldened by liberal politicians who are more likely to attack the police in New York City, rather than defend them, another incident of police disrespect was caught on camera Halloween night in Brownsville.

Video posted by CBS shows people deliberately covering an NYPD vehicle in trash on Halloween night, while a small group of residents sit by, laugh, and taunt the two officers that were left to clean up the mess.

One resident is heard saying "trick or treat", followed by a slur.

The officers calmly show restraint as they are left to clean up trash filled boxes, broken eggs and rotting food. The officers were in the midst of responding to a domestic dispute call and were upstairs at a residence long enough for their vehicle to be vandalized.

Several Blasts Of Arctic Air Will Bring Early Winter To Northeast

Several days ago, Ed Vallee, head meteorologist at Empire Weather LLC, stated that an Arctic blast of cold air would roll into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions later in the week, with the chance of producing one of the first snowmaking weather events of the year.

As of Wednesday morning, there's more evidence that Vallee's forecast has been spot on. Tens of millions across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions will get an early shot of winter over the next several days.

The first round of Arctic air will make its way from the north-central U.S. into the Great Lakes and Northeast Wednesday through Saturday. The cold weather could produce the first significant snowstorm of the year for parts of the interior, including places like northern New England, where at least 6 inches of snow is expected Thursday into Friday.

Another blast of Arctic air will arrive across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions early next week.

Of all the things the national media will report on U.S. Special Envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker's summarized congressional testimony, here's one detail likely to get buried: the reason for President Trump's resentment toward Ukraine.

We've been led to believe that Trump's call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was about an "abuse of power" and Joe Biden and that's all, folks, nothing more to see here. That's false, there's a lot to see, and one of the things Volker recollected about his conversations with Trump regarding Ukraine contains an important key.

Volker was asked during the closed-door testimony about a talk he had with Trump in May, during which Trump expressed "a deeply rooted distrust or dislike of the Ukrainians." The congressperson who asked Volker about it (we don't know who it is because the summary released Tuesday doesn't say) suggested to Volker that Trump was bitter toward Ukraine "because of what he perceived to be their role in the 2016 election and/or the Paul Manaforte [sic] case."

Consultant For Firm Linked To Hunter Biden Sought State Department Meeting To Downplay Corruption Concerns

A consultant for Burisma Holdings contacted the Obama State Department in 2016 in an attempt to downplay concerns about corruption at the Ukrainian energy firm, which had Hunter Biden as a board member at the time.

State Department emails show that Karen Tramontano, a lawyer for Blue Star Strategies, sought a meeting on Feb. 24, 2016, with Catherine Novelli, formerly the undersecretary of state for energy issues, in hopes of "getting a better understanding of how the U.S. came to the determination that [Burisma] is corrupt."

The timing of the email exchange, which journalist John Solomon obtained and published, is significant because during the same time frame, former Vice President Joe Biden pressured Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to fire a prosecutor in order to secure $1 billion in loan assistance from the U.S. Supporters of President Donald Trump allege that Joe Biden's pressure was a quid pro quo aimed at helping Burisma Holdings.

The president imperiled our "national security" by delaying, for his own reasons, a transfer of lethal aid and Javelin missiles to Ukraine — the very weapons President Barack Obama refused to send to Ukraine, lest they widen and lengthen the war in the Donbass.
Now, if Trump imperiled national security by delaying the transfer of the weapons, was not Obama guilty of a greater crime against our national security by denying the weapons to Ukraine altogether?

The essence of Trump's crime, it is said, was that he demanded a quid pro quo. He passed word to incoming President Volodymyr Zelensky that if he did not hold a press conference to announce an investigation of Joe Biden and son Hunter, he, Zelensky, would not get the arms we had promised, nor the Oval Office meeting that Zelensky requested.

So Vindman was ridiculing 'rednecks' and sneering about American exceptionalism to Russian officers?

Alexander Vindman, the vaunted National Security Council aide who recently gave Congress his haughty opinion about President Trump's phone call with the president of Ukraine, wasn't the simon-pure official just concerned about national security that he portrayed himself as earlier.

Turns out he's quite a partisan piece of work.

Over at American Greatness, Debra Heine found the tweets of one of Vindman's military superiors, a retired lieutenant colonel who had no choice but to verbally reprimand him.
A retired Army officer who worked with Democrat "star witness" Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman in Grafenwoher, Germany, claims Vindman "really talked up" President Barack Obama and ridiculed America and Americans in front of Russian military officers.

In an eye-opening thread on Twitter last week, retired U.S. Army Lt. Colonel Jim Hickman said that he "verbally reprimanded" Vindman after he heard some of his derisive remarks for himself. "Do not let the uniform fool you," Hickman wrote. "He is a political activist in uniform."

Republicans should follow Rand Paul's brilliant lead on Trump's impeachment

Every Republican in Congress should be required to watch Sen. Rand Paul's brief remarks at President Trump's rally Monday night. They should all watch it again and again.

In the span of two minutes, Paul said everything that needs to be said about the Democrats' impeachment effort.

He called on congressional Republicans to defend the president, he leaned into the attack on the corruption of the Bidens, and he hit the national media for refusing to publish the name of the career government employee who started the whole farce, otherwise referred to as "the whistleblower."

"We also now know the name of the whistleblower," said Paul. "I say tonight to the media, do your job and print his name."

Ilhan Omar is officially divorced from her husband, just weeks after she was revealed to be living a double life in Washington D.C. with her married aide, according to court documents.

The Minnesota Congresswoman filed for divorce from Ahmed Hirsi in early October, around three months after DailyMail.com reported she had split from the father of her three children and had moved into a penthouse apartment in Minneapolis.

In the following months, DailyMail.com revealed Omar's affair with her married aide Tim Mynett, whose own wife Beth filed for divorce from him in August, claiming he had professed his love for Omar to her.

NYC Police Commissioner Resigns As The State Preps To Free Hundreds Of Inmates

New York City Police Commissioner James O'Neill is stepping down, he said during a press conference Monday.

O'Neill, 61, will be taking a job in the private sector and New York City Police Department Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea will take over as police commissioner in December, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced, according to ABC News. De Blasio praised O'Neill for "working tirelessly to bring police and communities together." He began as police commissioner in September 2016.

O'Neill's "one mission" while police commissioner was "to fight crime and keep everybody safe," the commissioner said during Monday's press conference. His successor has been on the force for 28 years and will work to "end the scourge of gun and gang violence," de Blasio, a Democrat, said.

Dillard University President Walter Kimbrough argued that historically black colleges succeed because they don't enroll "racist" students.

Kimbrough, the president of Dillard University, a historically black university in New Orleans, Louisiana, came under fire this week after he said that historically black colleges succeed because they exclude racists from their student body and faculty.

"I think now many black high school students are experiencing more overt racism, so they are looking for places where race is not a day to day issue to be navigated," Kimbrough said in a comment to The College Fix. "At an HBCU, students can just be students and not worry about the politics of race."

"I think many have worked to be more inclusive, but those schools still enroll students who don't have the same value of diversity and inclusion," Kimbrough added. "A university may do everything right but they will still enroll racist students, faculty and staff who will make the climate uncomfortable for black students."

Trump Jr. made the assertion during a Tuesday morning appearance on Fox & Friends in a discussion about the political gridlock that has prevented issues like USMCA agreement that has not been voted on by Congress. He was also on the network to promote his new book, Triggered.

"The reality is, this isn't your grandfather's Democrat Party. If you look at their party platform, it's not for working-class Americans. JFK would be an alt-right, Neo-Nazis terrorist according to them today," the president's son claimed.

ABC News' spiking of Epstein story draws scrutiny toward Clinton ally George Stephanopoulos

The bombshell claim that ABC News "quashed" a story on allegations against Jeffrey Epstein has drawn new scrutiny on the controversy's ties to its own star anchor, George Stephanopoulos.

Project Veritas, whose controversial founder, James O'Keefe, has described himself as a "guerrilla journalist," published the footage that featured ABC News anchor Amy Robach claiming the Disney-owned network refused to air an interview she conducted with one of Epstein's accusers and even suggesting she'd uncovered new information about Epstein's ties to former President Bill Clinton as his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was running for president.

Governor Hogan Signs Common Cause’s “End Gerrymandering Pledge”

ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today announced that he has signed Common Cause's "End Gerrymandering Pledge," reaffirming his support for fair redistricting in Maryland that is transparent, non-discriminatory, and politically impartial.

"Free and fair elections are the very foundation of our democracy, and it's past time for leaders on both sides of the aisle to put an end to the disgraceful practice of partisan gerrymandering," said Governor Hogan. "I am proud to sign on to Common Cause's 'End Gerrymandering Pledge' to continue fighting for a fair, nonpartisan, open, and transparent redistricting process for all legislative and congressional districts."

Continuing his fight to restore free and fair elections, Governor Hogan has vowed to once again introduce the Redistricting Reform Act on the first day of the 2020 legislative session.

Maryland has the unfortunate distinction of having some of the most gerrymandered districts in America. In March, Governor Hogan and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger filed an amicus brief with the United States Supreme Court in support of the plaintiffs in Benisek v. Lamone, which challenged the constitutionality of Maryland's gerrymandered 6th Congressional District. Governors Hogan and Schwarzenegger attended oral arguments in the case and took part in a rally hosted by Common Cause and the League of Women Voters.

On October 15th, the Blueprint for Maryland's Future Funding Formula Workgroup held their final meeting and voted to fully phase in the recommendations of the Kirwan Commission over the next 10 years, while adjusting for inflation.

According to the Commission, the recommendations from the workgroup are intended to transform the State's early childhood, primary, and secondary education system into a world-class system. Five main policy areas are addressed through this legislation: early support for young children and families, high-quality and diverse teachers and educators, college and career readiness, additional resources and services for those students who need them, and a strong accountability system to make sure the Blueprint is effectively administered. These recommendations were approved and passed during the 2019 legislative session as a part of SB 1030 – The Blueprint for Maryland's Future.

As an initiative as significant as modernizing our schools, I believe the upmost attention to this process is needed as we proceed. It is imperative to receive input from our local families and counties. This Thursday, November 7th, a community forum will be held at the Dorchester Career & Technology Center at 6:00 pm to hear from experts and stakeholders about the work and recommendation of the Kirwan Commission. Conversations will include the progress that has been made as well as the work that still needs to be done.

Republicans 'serious' about moving Jim Jordan to House Intelligence for public impeachment fight

Republican Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan may join the House Intelligence Committee, where the staunch defender of President Trump can take part in the upcoming public impeachment hearings.

Jordan, who has been a fierce critic of how the majority Democrats have so far handled impeachment proceedings, has taken a leading role in questioning impeachment witnesses in closed-door depositions. But a resolution passed last week on party lines would exclude him from the public hearings to be conducted by the Intelligence Committee.

Now discussions about temporarily shifting Jordan over to the intelligence panel are "serious and ongoing," a senior Republican told CBS News.

Despite being better educated, a new study says millennials aren't getting their bang for their buck.

The nonprofit New America published a report that found that the Great Recession was largely to blame in the generational wealth divide.

The report says 18- to 34-year-olds earn less than that age group in the 1980s and a "volatile" flow of income could be why, reports the New York Post.

Researchers point to freelance and contract work caused weakened access to employee benefits, and contributed to an overall decline in income.

Donald Trump, Jr. joked that Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah is his favorite Democrat.

Trump appeared on CBS on Tuesday morning to talk about his new book, Triggered: How the Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silence Us. Host Gayle King attempted to get Trump to compliment a political opponent by asking him to name his favorite Democrat.

The president's son demurred on the question at first. King then began to move the show along to the next segment on the weather when Trump quipped, "Mitt Romney, Gayle. Mitt Romney is my favorite Democrat. How about that?"

Fox News personality claims she was harassed in public for fourth time over her job

Fox News personality Kat Timpf claimed that she was harassed in public by another patron at an establishment on Monday.

She said it was the fourth time that something like this happened to her, and said that her ties to the conservative-leaning network were the source of the confrontation.

"The people who pretend to be so tolerant and accepting are honestly the biggest bullies I have ever encountered. This is not a talking point, this is my experience. Tonight marks the 4th incident I've had where I was unwelcome somewhere because of where I work," Timpf wrote. "I do not mean unwelcome by the establishment. They were very kind, which is why I will not be naming any further details because I do not want retaliation but rather to make a point."

New York Times stokes backlash for tweet about Mexico slayings

People on social media blasted the New York Times for a Twitter headline that seemingly minimized the deaths of nine members of an American family in Mexico and implied their religion was to blame.

The headline on Twitter read, "Brutal Killings Spotlight Small Religious Sect in Mexico," with a description that said, "The brutal killing of 9 members of an American family in northern Mexico on Monday highlights the long history of religious fundamentalist settlers in the region. Our religion reporter, Elizabeth Dias, details their history back to the early 20th century."

The article, penned by a religion reporter, has the headline, "Murder in Mexico: Mormon Families Have a Long History There," and goes in-depth about a fundamentalist offshoot of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and how they settled in the region decades ago after splintering off from the Mormons.

DOJ will fight impeachment subpoenas unless Trump administration witnesses are allowed attorneys

The Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel released a new legal opinion stating that subpoenas from House Democrats in their impeachment investigation into President Trump will be considered "legally invalid" if Trump administration witnesses aren't allowed to have an attorney with them while testifying.

The new legal stance by the Trump DOJ is detailed in a five-page legal memo dated Nov. 1, just one day after the House of Representatives voted to formalize the opening of its impeachment process stemming from a Ukraine whistleblower in a near-party-line vote. Republicans had previously complained about the closed-door nature of the impeachment proceedings as well as the lack of a launch vote, but the new legal justification by DOJ could escalate the battle over the Trump administration's lack of cooperation with the House, as the Trump administration continues to slow-walk some information requests and stonewall some subpoenas.

"Congressional committees participating in an impeachment inquiry may not validly compel executive branch witnesses to testify about matters that potentially involve information protected by executive privilege without the assistance of agency counsel," Assistant Attorney General Steven Engel wrote. "Congressional subpoenas that purport to require executive branch witnesses to appear without agency counsel in these circumstances are legally invalid and are not subject to civil or criminal enforcement."

Kansas City votes overwhelming to remove Martin Luther King Jr.'s name from historic street

Kansas City voters on Tuesday overwhelmingly approved removing Dr. Martin Luther King's name from one of the city's most historic boulevards. The decision comes less than a year after the city council decided to rename The Paseo.

Unofficial results showed the proposal to remove King's name received nearly 70% of the vote, with just over 30% voting to retain King's name.

The debate over the name of the 10-mile boulevard on the city's mostly black east side began shortly after the council's decision in January to rename The Paseo for King. Civil rights leaders who pushed for the change celebrated when the street signs went up, believing they had finally won a decades-long battle to honor the civil rights icon, which appeared to end Kansas City's reputation as one of the largest U.S. cities in the country without a street named for him.

What Western imperialism, Ilhan Omar?

Yes, Ilhan Omar sometimes gets unfair criticism. Still, her comments on Western imperialism are absurd.

Standing alongside Bernie Sanders this weekend, Omar observed, "I am beyond honored and excited for a president who will fight against Western imperialism and fight for a just world."

What on Earth is Omar talking about? Western imperialism is dead and buried in 2019, and it has been so since the Suez Crisis of 1956.

GOP's Bevin refuses to concede as Kentucky gubernatorial race goes down to the wire

Republican incumbent Gov. Matt Bevin refused to concede late Tuesday in Kentucky's gubernatorial race, citing unspecified "irregularities" -- potentially kickstarting weeks of uncertainty as the closely-watched contest with national implications remains too close to call.

The history-making evening also saw Republicans decisively hold onto the governorship in Mississippi despite a fierce Democratic challenge, while electing Kentucky's first black attorney general. Democrats, meanwhile, took complete control over the Virginia statehouse for the first time in 26 years.

On Monday, Trump had called on an "angry majority" of voters to boost the relatively unpopular Bevin in Kentucky, in a nod to Richard Nixon's "silent majority" and Ronald Reagan's "moral majority." But with 100 percent of precincts reporting, Bevin was behind Democratic Attorney General Andy Beshear, 49.2 percent (711,955 votes) to 48.9 percent (707,297 votes). Libertarian candidate John Hicks received 28,475 votes, or 2.0 percent.

My entire adult life, I have been waiting for the Party of Lincoln to be the real Party of Lincoln, and make a serious, focused, and yes — risky effort to attract the black vote.

John McCain didn't have the courage to do this. Mitt Romney gave it one try before he ran away scared and crying.

Not Trump, though. Despite the best efforts of the fake media and Democrats (but I repeat myself) to smear him as racist, to mock his every attempt to reach out to blacks, to turn every black person who does support Trump into a "Crazy Uncle Tom," Trump will not be intimidated.

Katie Hill’s Resignation Impacts Congressional Investigation

The sudden resignation last week of California Democrat Representative Katie Hill over her sex scandal means that she will not have to answer questions from the House Ethics Committee about allegations that she had a sexual relationship with a male congressional staffer.

In resigning, "Hill did manage to escape a full investigation from the House Ethics Committee, which generally shuts down any probes once a lawmaker leaves office because the panel no longer has jurisdiction," The Washington Post reported. "Hill will never have to answer detailed questions about when her relationship started with her campaign staffer and whether it continued after she took office in January."

The Post added, "She, and her aides, will not have to undergo inquiries into her ex-husband's allegation on social media that Hill also had a relationship with a senior aide in her congressional office — something that became expressly forbidden when the House updated its rules in early 2018."

General Michael Flynn's attorney, Sidney Powell, knows who she is dealing with and won't take the government's inadequate excuses to support its horrible crimes against General Flynn. Powell requested additional documents from the government that would exonerate General Flynn that the government refuses to provide. The government has a duty to provide this information but they won't provide it.

In a recent rebuttal by the the government who is denying providing the General the original notes on the FBI's interview with Flynn in the White House the government claimed that the notes from the agents were proper and provided what they claim is the original notes. But Internet sleuths pointed out how outrageous the government's position is.

Shilling: Millennials Should Be Happy They Are Stuck Renting

Millennials spend a lot of time bemoaning their inability to buy a home, forcing them to keep renting. They should want to stay renters, if they know what's good for them financially.

It's generally believed that appreciation in home values is what created middle-class wealth in earlier decades. But that was only because monthly loan payments forced homeowners to save and eventually retire their mortgage debt. Most of the rise in single-family house prices over time is due to larger new structures with more marble bathrooms, fancier kitchens, etc.

The quality-adjusted house price index, developed by Prof. Robert Shiller of Yale University, removes this upward price bias by comparing the prices of the same house when it is sold repeatedly over time.

It shows that average quality-adjusted single-family house prices, corrected for overall inflation, have risen a paltry 1.1% at a compound annual rate since 1972. The reason the results have an upward bias at all is that they don't adjust for interim owners doing upgrades.

Strasburg was reacting to a short video clip posted by Rudy Gersten, who is often published in The Washington Post's D.C. Sports Blog. The clip shows the World Series MVP turning away from President Donald Trump's outstretched hand.

"Strasburg left Trump hanging," Gersten captioned the clip, adding a cry-laughing emoji.

New racist vandalism at Fulton Hall results in student protest

The Fulton School of Liberal Arts at Salisbury University has been vandalized by racist and violent writings for the fourth time this semester.

The writings specifically target African American students and women. The most recent one escalated to violence and mentioned the Sandy Hook Massacre.

The writings were all found in stairwells that have no cameras.

This is the fourth time Fulton Hall has been vandalized, and the Salisbury University Police Department has not found the person or persons responsible.

SU students gathered yesterday outside Fulton Hall to protest and demand action from the administration in response to this repeated vandalism.
