But it is a different sort of gender gap — it originates with male voters, not women. According to Fox News polls, Hillary Clinton is running 14 points ahead among women, down from President Barack Obama's 16 point finish in 2012. But Donald Trump is running 22 points ahead among men, way up from Mitt Romney's 7 point final margin in 2012. The Trump candidacy is founded in this male gender gap. Women are dissenting from the national vote by their usual amount. But it is men who are really voting differently this year. On a cultural level, male voters are alienated by political correctness and the focus on the rights of everybody but men. By contrast, female gender gap issues are somewhat less significant than they once were. While more Americans now describe themselves as pro-choice than pro-life, the underlying data suggests a lack of extreme views on the issue. Almost 30 percent, according to Gallup in May 2016, favor legalizing abortion "in all circumstances" while 19 percent support banning it all the time. The majority, 51 percent, wants it to be legal in only certain circumstances. Meanwhile, dissatisfaction with wage stagnation, income inequality, the loss of manufacturing jobs, and the large amount of illegal immigration has spiraled, catalyzing Trump's surprising march to the nomination. | How Banks, Other Businesses Can Avoid Becoming Cyber-Crime Victims Posted: 02 Jun 2016 04:00 PM PDT Apparently, the heist couldn't have been any simpler if it had been drawn up in the lunch line at an elementary school cafeteria. In February, Bangladesh's central bank saw $81 million disappear out a virtual window. Now it's been revealed that, although the computer hackers used custom-made malware, they probably didn't need to work up a cyber sweat while pulling off their long-distance theft. The bank had no firewalls to defend against intruders and its computers were linked to global-financial networks through second-hand routers that cost $10. "It's stunning that a major institution would leave itself so defenseless in this day and age when everyone should know that cyber criminals are waiting for you to let your guard down," says Gary S. Miliefsky, CEO of SnoopWall (www.snoopwall.com), a company that specializes in cyber security. But he says the episode can serve as a cautionary tale for other banks and any businesses that want to protect themselves against today's cyber versions of Bonnie and Clyde. "Most companies have some vulnerability and it doesn't take a sophisticated attack to cause a security breach," Miliefsky says. "Often on the hackers' end of things, it just takes patience." For example, he says, a cyber criminal can gain access by sending a company an email with an attachment called a Remote Access Trojan, or RAT, that looks like a normal file. All it takes is for an unsuspecting employee to open that file and, voila, security is compromised. That's bad for companies, of course, but it's also bad for consumers, whose bank account, credit card and other private information is at risk. Miliefsky says it's important to go on the offensive. Among his recommendations: • Employers need to train their staffs. Those employees sitting at their computers each day are a company's first line of defense. An errant click on the wrong email is like unlocking the front door, so employees should be made aware of the dangers and told what do about suspicious email. • Companies should routinely update their defenses. Outdated technology and outdated security software make a company's computers vulnerable to attack. It's important that businesses periodically review their IT operations to make sure what worked last year still provides the needed security. • Consumers must take their own safety measures. It would be nice to expect banks and retailers to protect consumer information, but the average person can't count on that. Miliefsky suggests consumers take personal security measures such as frequently changing passwords and deleting any phone apps they don't use. Many apps contain malware that can spy on you. "Most people log onto the internet every day without much thought about how susceptible they are to being hacked," Miliefsky says. May's figure of 1,037 Syrian refugees brings the total number since the beginning of 2016 to 2,099 – compared to 2,192 for the whole of 2015, according to State Department Refugee Processing Center data. In office, he seems to have acquired a taste for them: The U.S. Department of Justice is refusing an order from a federal judge to release details of benefits provided to over 100,000 illegal immigrants under President Barack Obama's executive action on immigration. U.S. District Court Judge Andrew S. Hanen ordered the Justice Department to produce a list of individuals who received deportation deferrals from the 2014 DHS directive in a decision made May 19. The decision was made after learning DoJ had not disclosed that approximately 100,000 illegal immigrants had received three-year deferrals from deportation between November 20, 2014 and March 3, 2015. The Justice Department urged Hanen to stay his order in a brief released late Tuesday. The 2014 DHS directive expanded a program that allowed individuals who immigrated illegally to the United States as children to obtain work permits and renewable two-year deferrals from deportation. The 2014 directive expanded this program, allowing the parents of such individuals to obtain work permits. It also increased the deferral period from two years to three. Judge Hanen says the Justice Department assured him the 2014 program would not be implemented until February 2015, affording him time to evaluate the case. However, the federal government began issuing deferrals months earlier, in November 2014. "They knowingly continued to hide this conduct for months and only admitted it once they realized the number of violations exceeded 100,000," Judge Hanen wrote in his order. He also ordered Justice Department attorneys to attend a legal ethics course. The Justice Department is alleging that this request overburdens DHS, and that releasing these records would violate the privacy of those who received benefits(illegally). This is total bunk. | Route 50 To Get New Traffic Light At Sixty Foot Road Posted: 02 Jun 2016 12:46 PM PDT BERLIN — To enhance safety, the Maryland Department of Transportation's State Highway Administration (SHA) will install a new traffic signal at the US 50 and Sixty Foot Road intersection, in eastern Wicomico County, just west of MD 354 (Powellville Road). In response to requests from the local community, SHA studied the intersection to determine if a signal or other changes would enhance safety. SHA traffic engineers analyzed a variety of factors including sight distance, pedestrian activity, crash history, proximity to schools, daily traffic counts, turning movements, physical geometry of the intersection and seasonal impacts. SHA engineers determined that a signal, along with turn lanes and additional signs, will improve traffic flow and safety through the intersection. Date of Incident: 1 June 2016 Location: Branch Street at Ocean Gateway, Mardela Springs, MD Suspects: Anna Marie Holland, 25, Salisbury, MD Holly Star Lynch, 38, Snow Hill, MD Narrative: On 1 June 2016 at 1730hrs, deputies assigned to the Wicomico Sheriff's Office Community Action Team stopped a vehicle operated by Anna Holland for speeding in Mardela Springs. During the encounter, the deputies suspected that Holland and her passenger Holly Lynch were involved in possible illegal drug activity which resulted in a search of their vehicle. During the search the deputies located what they identified as heroin and crack cocaine. Both were packaged in amounts that was indicative of distribution. Both Holland and Lynch were transported to the Central Booking Unit where they were processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. Following an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Holland in the Detention Center in lieu of $75,000.00 bond while Lynch is still awaiting an initial appearance. "In the previous Semiannual Report to Congress, we reported theoretical progress with regard to the longstanding denial of access for the [Office of Inspector General] OIG by the EPA's Office of Homeland Security (OHS) to information sought by the OIG," the report said. "After considerable delay, OHS provided some documents to the OIG but continued to deny access to others." The dispute stems from an investigation into a senior official who was accused of harassing 16 women over a decade. The inspector general had found that other senior EPA officials "likely knew about the sexual harassment, but did nothing for six months." Girl Posted: 02 Jun 2016 11:00 AM PDT My name is Robert Bacon and I have assumed temporary guardianship of a 14 year old girl who has not attended school in Wicomico county for almost a year and a half. She was living with her mother along with 4 other adults in a motel room and all the adults seem to have substance abuse problems. I live with her aunt who received her call for help. The child has told me she reached her breaking point when she gave up the bed provided by her mother to the only working adult in the room and was sleeping on the floor to allow this person a bed to sleep in. She said she was woke up around 3 am when someone spilled a full beer on her head and soaked her and her pillow. She said she was crying when she had to shower the alcohol off of her. Her aunt (my girlfriend) and I have taken her into our home and are providing a safe place for her to prosper. Her mother has granted us temporary guardianship and we have been trying to get her back to school. She does not wish to go back to school claiming some violence and harassment issues against her in the Wicomico County school she was attending. Her aunt and I are doing everything we can to get this child the education she needs.We have enroll her in home schooling .The child's father will be getting out of Wicomico County detention center for actions with his own substance abuse problems She is tired of his actions as well. He has been in jail a lot of times times and he has many pages on Maryland case search. The child`s comment on his release is "great, another homecoming, one more person to tell me what to do." I am so proud of this girl and her willingness to do right even under these conditions. She is trying above and beyond what I ever expected. The tough guy I sometimes feel I am has cried many times over this. As a recovering alcoholic myself, I have empathy for this child. I am upset over the fact that Wicomico County schools has allowed this child to be out of school for so long. Her aunt contacted the school and was told the child needed counseling but offered no assistance in the matter. It seems the Board has turned a blind eye to the situations of violence and harassment in the district, refusing to correct the problems and not offering help needed to children that have been affected by it. The LA Times reports: The gunman who shot and killed a UCLA professor Wednesday has been identified as Mainak Sarkar, a former doctoral student who had accused the victim of stealing his computer code and giving it to someone else, according to Los Angeles police. Sarkar, 38, took his own life after killing William Klug, 39, in a small office in UCLA Engineering Building 4, sources confirmed. The Los Angeles County coroner's office on Thursday did not identify the shooter, although it did confirm the victim's identity Thursday morning. Klug was an associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering and had been the target of Sarkar's anger on social media for months. Bikundi Sr. 63, of Mitchellville, Maryland, and the owners of Global Healthcare Inc., a home care agency, were sentenced today to prison terms for health care fraud, money laundering, and other charges stemming from a scheme in which they and others defrauded the District of Columbia Medicaid program of over $80 million. The sentences were announced by U.S. Attorney Channing D. Phillips for the District of Columbia; Assistant Director in Charge Paul M. Abbate of the FBI's Washington Field Office; Special Agent in Charge Nicholas DiGiulio of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG), for the region that includes Washington, D.C.; Special Agent in Charge Brian J. Ebert of the U.S. Secret Service's Washington Field Office, and Inspector General Daniel W. Lucas for the District of Columbia (D.C. OIG). The two defendants were found guilty on Nov. 12, 2015 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The Honorable Chief Judge Beryl A. Howell sentenced Florence Bikundi to 10 years in prison. She sentenced Michael D. Bikundi Sr. to seven years in prison. Following their prison terms, the Bikundis will be placed on three years of supervised release. Judge Howell earlier ordered them to forfeit over $11 million seized from 76 bank accounts; their residence, worth approximately $1 million; $73,000 in cash seized from their residence and five luxury vehicles with a total purchase price of more than $400,000. She also imposed a forfeiture money judgment of $39,989,956 on both defendants. Finally, Judge Howell ordered the defendants to pay $80,620,929 in restitution to D.C. Medicaid. "The investigation of this case exposed a massive health care fraud that cheated the District of Columbia Medicaid program of more than $80 million that could have been spent on people who needed services," said U.S. Attorney Phillips. "Florence and Michael Bikundi enriched themselves for years by operating a rogue home care agency. She was found guilty by the jury of 12 charges: one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud; one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, two counts of health care fraud; one count of Medicaid fraud; and seven counts of money laundering. Michael D. Bikundi Sr. was found guilty of 10 charges: one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud; one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, one count of health care fraud; and seven counts of money laundering. According to evidence presented at trial, Florence Bikundi, a former nurse and her husband owned Global Healthcare Inc. According to the government's evidence, Florence Bikundi was not entitled to take part in the Medicaid program and fraudulently got approval as a provider. Then, the government's evidence showed, she and her husband led a scheme to bill Medicaid for services that were not fully provided – recruiting others, including family members, into the scam and creating fraudulent paperwork to hide the illegal activity. The D.C. Medicaid program is funded jointly by District of Columbia tax dollars and federal tax dollars. Medicaid provides for home care services to be performed by personal care aides, working for eligible home care agencies. Doctors or advanced practice registered nurses must examine beneficiaries and authorize them to receive these services. The aides are to follow a plan of care and assist Medicaid beneficiaries in performing activities of daily living, such as getting in and out of bed, bathing, dressing, keeping track of medication and so forth. In 1999, Florence Bikundi went by her maiden name of Florence Igwacho. In August 1999, the Virginia Board of Nursing revoked the nursing license of Florence Igwacho. In March 2000, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General notified Florence Igwacho in writing that she was excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid, and all federal health care programs due to the revocation. Florence Bikundi subsequently concealed her past – namely, the Medicaid exclusion and the revocation of her nursing license - when she applied for a Medicaid provider number for Global Healthcare in June 2009 using the name of Florence Bikundi. She also used three forged signatures on her Medicaid provider application. Florence Bikundi married Michael Bikundi in September 2009. From August 2009 through February 2014, Florence and Michael Bikundi used Global HealthCare to carry out a massive fraud, the government's evidence showed. Year after year, the D.C. Medicaid program was billed for personal home health aide services that were not fully provided to Medicaid beneficiaries. Phony time sheets, patient files and employment files were created. Global Healthcare generated increasing amounts of payments as the years continued, going from roughly $1.35 million in 2009 to $14.27 million in 2011 to $27.16 million in 2013. According to the government's evidence, the Bikundis used the proceeds to finance a lavish lifestyle. In just over three years, they spent $1.3 million to purchase and renovate a newly built home. They also used the proceeds for a $140,000 Land Rover, a $120,000 Porsche, a $75,000 Mercedes Benz, a $70,000 Cadillac and a $36,000 BMW. Seven others earlier pleaded guilty to charges in the investigation. They include Florence Bikundi's son, Carlson M. Igwacho, 35, of Bowie, Maryland; Florence Bikundi's two sisters, Irene M. Igwacho, 50, of Bowie, and Berenice W. Igwacho, 31, of Bowie, James Mbide, 55, of Laurel, Maryland; Nicola C. White, 34, of Laurel; Elvis N. Atabe, 57, of Adelphia Maryland, and Melissa A. Williams, 33, of Silver Spring, Maryland. Two others were indicted on charges in the investigation but remain fugitives: Christian S. Asongcha, 39, formerly of Lanham, Maryland, and Atawan Mundu John, 39, formerly of Washington, D.C. "We did everything in our power to be visible, to interact, to educate," Natural Resources Police Superintendent Colonel Robert K. "Ken" Ziegler Jr. said. "Our officers spoke with nearly 18,000 boaters, anglers and state park visitors. Together, with our reserve officer force, they conducted more than 2,400 free boat inspections across the state."Boating accidents declined 55 percent this Memorial Day weekend compared to the same period last year and none of the mishaps resulted in life-threatening injuries. Two incidents involved boats capsizing on Chesapeake Bay tributaries, one was a minor tubing accident on Deep Creek Lake and the fourth occurred as a boat docked at Smallwood State Park. Statewide, officers responded to 620 calls for service, a five percent increase over 2015. They arrested 15 people for impaired boating or impaired driving, compared to seven arrests last year. They wrote a total of 402 tickets and 1,297 warnings for all offenses, increases over last year of four percent and 17 percent respectively. Officers worked with allied agencies, such as the U.S. Coast Guard and local police and fire marine units, to be a highly visible presence on the Chesapeake Bay, the Atlantic coastal bays, and rivers and tributaries. Ziegler said the strategy this year is to get the boating season off to a good start that can be sustained through Labor Day. Last year, 21 people died in boating accidents, a 20-year high. Only three of the victims were wearing life jackets. "We aren't doing this to rack up tickets or generate revenue," he said. "We are doing this to keep our citizens and visitors safe so that they can continue to enjoy Maryland's lands and waters." The safety campaign will continue June 24-26, with Operation Dry Water, a nationwide crackdown on alcohol- and drug-impaired boaters. Two of the foals have already been born. Carol's Girl birthed her foal in April and JoJo gave birth to her foal about three weeks ago, leaving only Charmed still expecting. Charmed is expected to birth her foal at any time now. However, the Assateague Island Alliance (AIA), the friends group of the Assateague Island National Seashore, which advocates on behalf of the island's most famed residents, learned last week yet another mare, Gokey Go Bones, is also pregnant and is expected to give birth at any time. | Florida music festival turns tragic Posted: 02 Jun 2016 06:30 AM PDT  The Sunset Music Festival was held at Raymond James Stadium on Saturday and Sunday. Tampa police reported in a news release that a 22-year-old Melbourne man and a 21-year-old Kissimmee woman were hospitalized Saturday. The man died Sunday, and the woman died Monday. The medical examiner's office wasn't immediately reporting causes of death. Police didn't say why the 57 other people were hospitalized. Police also reported 25 felony arrests, eight misdemeanor arrests and 16 marijuana civil citations at the festival. City officials told CBS Tampa affiliate WTSP-TV the city needs to take a hard look at the festival known to attract drugs. More  | |||||||||||||||
| Judge Presiding Over Trump University Case Is Member Of La Raza Lawyers Group Posted: 02 Jun 2016 06:23 AM PDT United States District Court Judge Gonzalo Curiel, the man presiding over the class-action lawsuit against Trump University, is a member of the La Raza Lawyers of San Diego and oversaw the gift of a law school scholarship to an illegal alien. In his 2011 judicial questionnaire to become a federal judge, Curiel revealed his history with La Raza. GotNews.com originally reported this Tuesday, and The Daily Caller has independently verified. Curiel lists "La Raza Lawyers of San Diego" as a legal association he has been a part or is a part of on the questionnaire. Curiel's office at the United States District Court for the Southern District of California confirmed to TheDC the judge's membership in the group. Curiel reveals more ties to the group in his questionnaire. He has spoken at two receptions held by La Raza Lawyers of San Diego, the most recent being in 2011. Last year, the group also held a reception for Curiel. The description of the event says, "This year we are proud to be honoring Judge Gonzalo Curiel at our reception and recognizing him for his leadership and support to the community and to our Association!" | COAST GUARD, PARTNER AGENCIES, GOOD SAMARITAN ASSIST 22 IN WATER NEAR BLOODSWORTH ISLAND, MD. Posted: 02 Jun 2016 02:30 AM PDT   Responding agencies included Maryland Natural Resources Police, Maryland State Police, Dorchester County EMS and Naval Air Station Patuxent River. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Maryland-National Capital Region received a digital selective calling alert of distress with the boats Maritime Mobile Service Identity number from a boater aboard a 40-foot boat. The DSC notification was followed by a distress call over VHF-FM marine channel 16 stating, "Mayday, mayday, mayday. This is the motor vessel Karen N. We have sunk off of Bloodsworth Island." Communications were lost soon after. Sector Maryland-National Capital Region issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched boat crews from Coast Guard Station Crisfield, while SYSCOM Helicopter Communications notified Maryland State Police and launched two helicopter crews. A good Samaritan arrived on scene, brought the 22 boaters aboard, transported them to Wingate and transferred them to awaiting EMS personnel. "As soon as we received the DSC alert we knew their exact position," said Lt j.g. Issac Yates, a command duty officer at the Sector Maryland-National Capital Region command center. "When the owner of a vessel connects their radio to a GPS, the signal sent after pressing the DSC alert button will include the GPS position," said Yates. "If they've gone to the [maritime mobile service identity] website and registered their vessel with the appropriate vessel owner information, the DSC alert will also send the MMSI code number with the signal and we can look up the owner's information while also knowing the exact position of when the alert was pressed." EMS determined one person was in need of an airlift to Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Other injured personnel were transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center via ambulance. "All 22 persons in the water were wearing their life preservers," said Yates. "That greatly enhanced their survivability."  | |||||||||||||||
