Posted: 27 Feb 2016 05:48 AM PST There were plenty of interesting nuggets in the today's business sections. First off, Bryce Elder over at the Financial Times picked up on yesterday's speculation about Flowserve in his market report although reading between the lines of his perfect prose the suggestion is that Flowserve could be just as interested in IMI (yesterday the talk was about Weir Group). Here is a link to Bryce's market report: http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/28199de8-dcb0-11e5-8541-00fb33bdf038.html#axzz41NKaz51z Elsewhere, Harry Wilson's analysis in the The Times on the Qatari's problems was a good read and raised some of the questions brought up here on little old Betaville last year about the Gulf state's financial position. Here is a link to Harry's piece: http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/business/industries/banking/article4700521.ece And finally, Deidre Hipwell at The Times managed to get Mike Ashley to deny on the record speculation he is looking to take Sports Direct private, which is quite a feat given he avoids hacks like the plague. Still, on the record statements about buying public companies or not tend to get the Takeover Panel pretty jumpy, especially if they aren't made via the official channels, such as the regulatory news service. So, I wouldn't be surprised to see a clarification statement from Ashley via the RNS on Monday morning... |
