New Report: Traffic Deaths in the U.S. Worst In 50 Years

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 08:30 PM PDT

BALTIMORE (WJZ)– Alarming new statistics show traffic fatalities in the United States are at its worst in 50 years and there's concern this trend could get worse.

According to a recent report from the National Safety Council, about 19,100 people have died in traffic wrecks so far this year. A 9-percent jump compared to the same time last year.

In Maryland alone, an estimated 231 people have died in traffic related accidents, up 3-percent from last year.

Nationwide, this trend started in 2014. It's the worst in 50 years and some drivers are more at risk than others.

Donald Trump: Clinton Foundation 'Must be Shut Down'

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 08:00 PM PDT

Donald Trump is calling for Hillary Clinton to shut down the controversial Clinton Foundation.

"Hillary Clinton is the defender of the corrupt and rigged status quo. The Clintons have spent decades as insiders lining their own pockets and taking care of donors instead of the American people," Trump says in a press release.

He continued, "It is now clear that the Clinton Foundation is the most corrupt enterprise in political history. What they were doing during Crooked Hillary's time as Secretary of State was wrong then, and it is wrong now. It must be shut down immediately."

Idaho police arrest two women after Facebook video post shows adults smoking pot in front of toddler

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 07:30 PM PDT

Incredible video from a Facebook post shows a toddler getting high from parents around him, and now arrests have been made. The alleged incident occurred on the Fort Hall reservation.

Fort Hall Police aren't releasing much about the situation, except that two female adults have been arrested and are currently sitting in Fort Hall jail for child endangerment. As for the others in the video, police are in process of requesting arrest warrants for them.

This shocking Facebook video shows four adults smoking a joint in front of a toddler, whose face we've decided to blur. In the video a woman can be seen trying to blow smoke into the toddler's mouth, and she tries it again, this time the child turns his head away.

Fort Hall Police say that two women were arrested for child endangerment. Investigators are working on two warrants for the other two adults seen in the video, one man and another woman.

Clinton email tech companies hit with subpoenas

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 07:00 PM PDT

House Republicans served subpoenas Monday to three technology companies that handled Hillary Clinton's private emails in search of documents needed for their investigation of her private server network.

The Science, Space and Technology Committee ordered Austin McChord, CEO of Datto, Inc., to produce to the committee by Sept. 9 documents related to his firm's involvement with the maintenance of the Clinton email server.

Two other technology company CEOs, Treve Suazo of Platte River Networks and Victor Nappe of SENCAP Network Security Corporation, also received subpoenas from the committee to produce documents.

Cover letters included with the subpoenas noted that the committee had sought the "voluntary cooperation" of the firms for several months before serving the executives.

To reform immigration, imitate Canada and Australia

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 06:00 PM PDT

For many years now, I've been arguing that the United States should adopt an immigration system much like those of our Anglosphere cousins Canada and Australia.

They encourage high-skill immigration by a points system which gives priority to those who have the capacity to contribute to their chosen country economically and civically. At Ben Domenech's Federalist blog, Helen Raleigh, who immigrated from China to the United States, gives a brief description of the Canadian and Australian systems.

Note that Canada and Australia do not limit high-skill immigration to those sponsored by particular companies, as our H-1B visa programs do. Currently, the lobbyists actively seeking more high-skill immigration are financed by tech companies which use H-1B visas to get cheaper labor than they otherwise could.

Here's what Under Armour plans to sell at Kohl's

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 05:30 PM PDT

Under Armour recently offered a few more details about its upcoming expansion into 1,200 Kohl's stores.

The Baltimore-based sportswear maker will sell lower-priced items like basic tank-tops, leggings and shirts in exclusive colors and materials at Kohl's, according to Citi Research analyst Kate McShane, who released the details in an investors note following a conference call with Under Armour.

Shoppers will still have to visit an Under Armour store or sporting goods store to buy its more expensive Infrared and CoolSwitch products.

McShane wrote in her report that the conference call was with Carrie Gillard, director of investor relations at Under Armour.

Can you pass a U.S. citizenship test?

There's been a lot of recent talk this campaign about citizenship tests, kicked up again after Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid launched a petition to make Donald Trump prove he can pass one to "put up or shut up" with his immigration plans.

In order to become a U.S. citizen, applicants must pass a speaking, reading and writing test, as well as correctly answer six of 10 civics questions. We've recreated one of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services' practice tests so you can see how you'd stack up.

Complaint: Black Students Punished More Harshly Than Whites

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 04:30 PM PDT

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Black students and students with disabilities attending public schools in Virginia's capital city are more severely and more frequently punished than their classmates, according to a complaint filed Wednesday with the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights.

The complaint brought by two students and a local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People alleges that African-American students at Richmond Public Schools and those with mental, emotional or physical disabilities are more likely than white students to be suspended or expelled. Thecomplaint urges federal officials to investigate the school systems' disciplinary policies and force them to make changes.

"Make no mistake about it: This is about justice, equality, and fairness for students with disabilities, for those who are African-American and for both," said Leslie Mehta, legal director of the ACLU of Virginia, which along with the Legal Aid Justice Center filed the complaint on behalf of the students and Richmond chapter of the NAACP.

Trump Defeats Hillary in Poll, Monmouth Amends it to Give Hillary Victory

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 04:00 PM PDT

Poll weighted 29 Republicans to 33 Democrats to let Hillary win

Monmouth University was caught amending a poll to give Hillary Clinton victory despite the fact that the original poll showed Donald Trump to be the winner.

The original unweighted poll showed Trump beating Hillary in Ohio 41-39, but when the poll was later amended to include more Democrats, Hillary was handed victory by a margin of 43-39.

The unweighted sampling of voters was split 33.3R/29.3D/35.6I, but wassubsequently changed (pages 6-7) to 29R/33D/37I in order to ensure Hillary came out on top.

When Twitter users called out Monmouth University over the controversy, pollster Patrick Murray denied the poll was weighted by Party ID, even though it clearly was.

Some Concerned Over School’s Decision to Not Factor In Homework

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 03:30 PM PDT

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—School officials in Baltimore County are speaking out after a new controversial grading policy goes into effect.

While the classrooms may look the same, report cards this year will look different.

Starting now, "marking period grades will be based solely on achievement of course and grade level standards".

"We want to make sure that an "A" truly does mean that a student has mastered material," said Baltimore County Schools Superintendent Dr. Dallas Dance.

Classroom conduct, homework completion and ability to work with others will not factor into the overall grade.

It's a concept that has some concerned.

Hillary's 'Never' Answered If Foundation Emails Were Personal

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 03:00 PM PDT

Bloomberg Politics' John Heilemann said on Tuesday that Hillary Clinton and the campaign have "never" answered whether or not emails about the Clinton Foundation were "personal" or "work-related."

Appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Heilemann said, "Let's bring a couple of stories together, which is the story that we learned yesterday that there's 15,000 of these emails that are now going to be released between now and Election Day."

"A fundamental question never answered in the course of a year that we've dealt with this email controversy was, among the 30,000 plus emails that Hillary Clinton destroyed because they were personal, as opposed to the ones she turned over that were work-related," Heilemann said.

I Forgot To Mention In My Earlier Article

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 02:58 PM PDT

In a conversation I had with my Father last night I asked him what he thought was the most up and coming item that each Family would need two or three of. He asked, like what. I replied, well, for example, back in the day cassette tapes were the big thing over the 8 track. Then came CD's. Black and white TV's and eventually Color TV's. Wall mounted phones to cordless phones and then cell phones. We had beta and then VCR's, then video disks. Then came computers.

Once he understood where I was going with my question he just sat there and said, I don't know.

I replied, well Pop, here's what I see. Let's see now, there's the new copper frying pan. Then there's the protective covers for your dining room table, just like Grandma used to have. Let's not forget the multiple plug in outlets. ISN'T AMERICA GREAT PEOPLE?

While we used to MANUFACTURE so many of the above creations, we just don't do so any more. Instead we import products because we sent everything overseas where it could be manufactured for peanuts and AMERICA could no longer compete. The Liberals then created the phrase, "we're a throw away society". No, Idiots, we're FOOLS! We've elected and allowed Idiots who know NOTHING about business encourage FREE TRADE. We drove our country completely out of competition and rather then being PROUD, while we dream up new ideas, what we get in the end are copper frying pans, table covers and multiple plug adapters.

It's time we rid ourselves of these IDIOT politicians who have NO CLUE about running a business. It's time we scream at them when they run for office and claim their main platform is JOBS! The next time you hear some Idiot claim they want to bring in jobs, demand they tell you HOW because they're ALL full of crap.

When you have a County Executive giving away Impact Fees, stop being so stupid and realize, SOMEONE has to pay for that water and sewer hookup, repave the roads, pay for the traffic lights and pay the salaries of the county employees approving such developments. That's right, YOU the taxpayer will now foot the bill for that shiny new home being built. Commercial developers are laughing all the way to the Bank. Politicians know NOTHING about economic development.

‘No homework’ policy continues

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 02:30 PM PDT

Long before a single teacher in a Texas school started a social media firestorm by discontinuing additional homework outside of regular classwork, Snow Hill Middle School is on its second year of offering exactly that to all students in every subject, at every grade level.

There are conditions, and some minor changes to last year's policy, for those parents who have new or returning students to that school. Students who do not complete the day's assignments are still responsible for that work, pupils are asked to read at least 20 minutes per night and both seventh and eighth grade students may be assigned additional practice when new mathematical concepts are introduced.

Those practice assignments should take only 20 minutes to complete, Principal Mrs. Chris Welch said, and will never, by themselves, negatively affect a students' grade.

"If a student does not understand the practice assignment, it is the responsibility of him or her to ask the teacher for assistance," the policy reads. "At any time, a parent or student can request additional material/assignments for any subject to reinforce skills taught during the school day."

Those assignments will be drawn from online and print sources that are consistent with the school's curricula, and are not just busywork, Welch said.

Released Hillary Clinton Email: ‘I Still Don't Feel Great’

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 02:00 PM PDT

On May 4, 2009, Hillary Clinton wrote to her top aide Huma Abedin, "I still don't feel great," and Clinton requested an Air Force plane instead of taking a shuttle from Westchester, New York, apparently to get to Washington, D.C., according to an email released Monday by Judicial Watch.

The email was part of 725 pages of new State Department documents released in response to a Judicial Watch Freedom of Information (FOI) lawsuit. The latest batch included 20 Hillary Clinton email exchanges not previously turned over to the State Department, the conservative legal action group says.

In the newly released email, Clinton wrote to Abedin on May 4, 2009:

Road not taken: Harrison Ave. feud continues in Berlin

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 01:30 PM PDT

The ongoing feud between leadership in Berlin and the Adkins Company has apparently not abated, and no resolution to the closing of Harrison Avenue, which Adkins owns, appears imminent.

Adkins put up barricades on a portion of Harrison Avenue in June after town officials and the company could not reach agreement to purchase the road.

During a Berlin mayor and council meeting on Monday, resident Jack Orris, a candidate for the District 2 council seat, asked for an update during public comments.

"Going around, I'm talking to people and I'm at a loss to explain what's going on currently with Harrison Avenue. People are asking me is there's anything the council can do," he said.

Mayor Gee Williams replied that the town would "not be extorted for $400,000," referring to the price Adkins had apparently asked for the road.

"It's going to create some inconvenience for a while, but I swear to God we're not going to be extorted for $400,000 if hell has to freeze over. That's the way it is," he said. "I'm sorry that they're so inconvenienced, but we didn't put that blockade up there.

Hillary’s top aide may be a Saudi plant

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 01:00 PM PDT

Bachmann: 'Advancing Shariah globally was the Abedin family business'

The woman who many say could be Hillary Clinton's White House chief of staff served for years as assistant editor of a Saudi-funded Muslim publication that opposed women's rights and blamed the U.S. for the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, according to a new report.

Paul Sperry, author of "Muslim Mafia," points out in a report Sunday for the New York Post that one of Hillary Clinton's biggest accomplishments listed on her campaign website is her support for the U.N. women's conference in Beijing in 1995, when she famously declared, "Women's rights are human rights."

"Her speech has emerged as a focal point of her campaign, featured prominently in last month's Morgan Freeman-narrated convention video introducing her as the Democratic nominee," Sperry writes.

But it wasn't long after that "historic and transformational" 1995 event, as Clinton recently described it, "that her top aide Huma Abedin published articles in a Saudi journal taking Clinton's feminist platform apart, piece by piece."

State Police Detectives are Investigating the Death of a 2 Month Old Child

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 12:57 PM PDT

Bridgeville- Detectives with Delaware State Police Major Crimes Unit are currently investigating a death of a two month old male that occurred this morning at a residence east of Bridgeville.

On the morning of August 25, 2016 at approximately 7:39 a.m. troopers were dispatched to the 20,000 block of Camp Road, Bridgeville after a 9-1-1 call was received from the residence stating a two month old infant was unresponsive. Preliminary investigation suggests the mother attempted to wake the infant from sleeping, and upon doing so, observed the infant unresponsive and not breathing. The infant was treated by EMS at the scene and transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The child was turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

Detectives are continuing their investigation into this incident.

Ocean City Beach Patrol Scaling Down Stand Coverage

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 12:30 PM PDT

OCEAN CITY — While the annual education drain is already affecting the Ocean City Beach Patrol, the resort's 10 miles of sandy beaches will remain covered through the final stretch of the season albeit with thinner ranks and creative scheduling.

While Delaware Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) officials last week announced many of the ocean swimming beaches in the state parks will be left unguarded on weekdays for the final stretch of the summer season, the Ocean City Beach Patrol is also dealing with the annual employment exodus caused by so many staffers involved in education whether it be as students, teachers or administrators.

If ever the message "keep your feet in the sand until the lifeguards are in the stand," needed reinforcing, the final few weeks of summer heading into Labor Day will be a time to closely monitor the beach patrol's coverage areas.

OCBP Captain Butch Arbin said this week the Beach Patrol already dropped 10 stands last week and dropped 20 more this week. Arbin said the coverage areas are always adjusted on the Monday of a new week late in the season so weekly renters are aware of any changes.

Federal judge sets deadline for huge Hillary email dump

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 12:00 PM PDT

Scandal now threatens to shadow Clinton for remainder of presidential campaign

A federal judge has ordered the State Department to be on a schedule regarding the release of the latest emails and other documents from Hillary Clinton's tenure as secretary of state under President Obama.

Her emails have been causing her problems for about a year now, since it was revealed through one of the Freedom of Information Act cases pursued by officials with Judicial Watch that she had run her official communications, including that material that was classified and secret, through an unsecured private server in her home.

The FBI concluded she was "extremely careless" but declined to pursue charges against the one-time first lady of the U.S. and former New York senator.

Now, nearly another 15,000 documents have been found and CNN reported that a federal judge already has picked a path for them to be released.

Am I Crazy?

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 12:11 PM PDT

If you are anywhere near my age or older you'll recall the images we saw in school of our ancestors coming to the Unites States for a better life, the "American Dream". The people coming here wanted everything to do with our values.

However, people weren't coming in by the hundreds of thousands or even millions at a clip. Many of the people Obama and Hillary want here are people who want to change every aspect of our way of life. The Liberal agenda seems to be more about overloading America with people who wouldn't mind capitalism. Heck, it's a lot better then where they came from.

The next thing we knew, laws are changing. Statues are being torn down. God is being taken away as if God is an insult. When we grew up we stood proud to recite the pledge of allegiance. We learned the Constitution, Bill of Rights and so on.

You are welcome to add your thoughts here in comments as to the massive changes you have seen. This article will seem long enough as it is but I think you're getting my drift.

Donald Trump comes along and the absolute FEAR he has placed on this Liberal Agenda is scaring the crap out of them. We have shown the farce time and time again how Hillary isn't truly drawing in large crowds to her rallies, yet Trump is filling football stadiums. The Liberal Media seems to be scrounging for their last breath because the major majority of Americans no longer believe what they're feeding us. The Blogs are getting threatened towards silence. Many of our Amendments are also being threatened. This is NOT the America we were raised in.

Mass shootings start coming out of nowhere and now they want to take away guns. There are military drills happening all across America, even in Mardela. Our law enforcement agencies are being handed military equipment. Am I crazy, am I missing something, is this normal?

Billions of dollars are disappearing that can't be accounted for, REALLY? Could it be that the upcoming presidential election is going to be rigged and they're afraid Americans might revolt? If you think for one second our government doesn't plan 10 years in advance for things, well, you are nuts. The writing is on the wall for  some massive changes. In the past we have seen massive genocide around the World and we weren't running to those countries and bringing those people to the United States to offer them a better life. Instead, we're bringing people here, (again) who do not believe in our values and laws. These people are demanding we change our laws to suit their wants and needs.

To me it seems obvious, our government is forcing change down our throats right before our very eyes and the media is praising and supporting these changes as if what we have enjoyed in the past isn't/wasn't good enough.

If I was a man in my 20's I'd be looking for another country to live in. A place where life is much simpler. It kills me inside to watch what is happening while great Americans sit back and take it. If there's ever been a time to get out and vote, this is it. Donald Trump tells it like it is. To watch the media go after his every word and act as if he is insulting everyone is just nuts. He is simply saying the things most of us feel, very similar to this Blog and its comments.

To think today that the millions of people getting off the boat are thinking, is this cool, or what. Affordable housing, welfare, food stamps, free health care, free college, what a life! When our ancestors came here they came because there were JOBS as well as a better way of life. Go back into your own history/family, NONE of it was easy. They worked very hard to deliver us roads, transportation, bridges, tunnels, buildings/skyscrapers, you name it. Today it's all about ENTITLEMENTS at taxpayers expense. THINK, how much longer can we afford it before everyone goes broke?

I for one am sick and tired of watching hard working Americans go bankrupt. It's time we all start remembering where we came from. It's time to show RESPECT to our ancestors who helped build this incredible country for the RIGHT REASONS. A vote for Donald Trump is a vote to "Make America Great Again" because from what I'm seeing, it won't be more then a decade before America is completely destroyed by the Liberal Party.

U.S. Navy calls high-speed approach by Iranian ships dangerous harassment

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 11:15 AM PDT

Four Iranian ships made reckless maneuvers close to a U.S. warship this week, the Pentagon said Thursday, in an incident that officials said could have led to dangerous escalation.

William Urban, a spokesman for the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet, said the four vessels from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps conducted a "high-speed intercept" and passed close to the USS Nitze, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, in international waters around the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday.

The Iranian ships ignored repeated radio, whistle and flare warnings from the Nitze and slowed their approach only when they were within 300 yards of the U.S. ship, Urban said. He described the Iranian actions as "unsafe and unprofessional."

ACT Scores Show Many Grads Not Ready for College-level Work

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 10:30 AM PDT

WASHINGTON (AP) — The latest scores from the ACT college entrance exam suggest many of this year's high school graduates aren't ready for college-level course work.

In its annual score report released Wednesday, the testing company said only 38 percent of graduating seniors who took the exam hit the college-prepared benchmark in at least three of the four core subjects tested — reading, English, math and science. That compares with 40 percent last year. The benchmark is designed to measure a strong readiness for college.

The average composite score also declined a bit, down from 21 to 20.8 this year. The four tests are scored on a scale of 1 to 36. The composite is the average of the four scores. Many colleges use the composite in admissions.

ACT's Paul Weeks says the declines were expected, given the growing and changing demographics of the testing population.

Missing: FBI files linking Hillary Clinton to the 'suicide' of White House counsel Vince Foster have vanished from the National Archives

FBI agents' reports of interviews documenting that Hillary Clinton's stinging humiliation of her friend and mentor Vince Foster in front of White House aides triggered his suicide a week later are missing from where they should be filed at the National Archives, Daily Mail Online has learned exclusively.

On two separate occasions, this author visited the National Archives and Records Service in College Park, Md., to review the reports generated by FBI agents assigned to investigate the 1993 death of Bill Clinton's deputy White House counsel.

Army confirms: Training slide lists Hillary Clinton as insider threat

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 09:45 AM PDT

An Army training presentation lists the woman who could be the next commander in chief as an insider threat, underneath the sailor who carried out the Navy Yard shooting.

A photo posted to the U.S. Army W.T.F! Moments Facebook page on Sunday shows an unclassified Army training slide on insider threats and handling classified information. An Army spokesman has since confirmed that the image is authentic.

On the slide are six photos, including one of Hillary Clinton, who sent classified information using her personal server.

The other photos show retired Gen. David Petraeus, who gave classified information to his biographer and mistress; Nidal Hasan, who carried out the Fort Hood shooting; Edward Snowden, a former NSA contractor who exposed classified information before seeking asylum in Russia; Aaron Alexis, the Navy Yard shooter; and Chelsea Manning, who gave classified information to WikiLeaks.

Over Half Of Hillary's Private Meetings As Secretary Were With Donors Who Paid $156 Million

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 09:37 AM PDT

In the latest confirmation that Hillary's receipt of donations while Secretary of State was a conflict of interest at best and criminal cronyism and "favor peddling" at worst (it would be ideal if the DOJ could chime in here, however the just as conflicted Department of Justice, which is headed by a 1999 Bill Clinton appointee, has decided to avoid the topic of the Clinton Foundation for obvious reasons), AP reports that more than half, or at least 85 of 154 people from private interests who met or spoke to Clinton while she led the State Department, donated to her family charity or pledged commitments.

Combined, the 85 donors contributed as much as $156 million. At least 40 donated more than $100,000 each, and 20 gave more than $1 million.

The 154 number did not include U.S. federal employees or foreign government representatives: separately, Hillary met with representatives of at least 16 foreign governments that donated as much as $170 million to the Clinton charity, but they were not included in AP's calculations because such meetings would presumably have been part of her diplomatic duties, but most likely resulted in such "quid pro quo" as the fast-tracking of weapons deliveries to countries such as Saudi Arabia.

Getting the information was, understandably, not easy. Despite the data being technically public, Hillary did not want the world to know just how many wealthy "donors" she is beholden to. As a result, the AP first sought Clinton's calendar and schedules three years ago, but delays led the AP to sue the State Department last year in federal court for those materials and other records. The AP's findings represent the first systematic effort to calculate the scope of the intersecting interests of Clinton foundation donors and people who met personally with Clinton or spoke to her by phone about their needs.

Hillary's calendars and emails released as recently as this week describe scores of contacts she and her top aides had with foundation donors.

Police Defend Trial Surveillance Flights, Say They Were Not Secret

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 09:30 AM PDT

Baltimore Police on Wednesday responded to revelations about department-funded aerial surveillance that's been ongoing since January, but only came to light this week.

"What we're talking about here is not an unmanned drone or secret surveillance program," police spokesman T.J. Smith said in a press conference at department headquarters Wednesday. "This is a 21st century investigative tool used to assist investigators in solving crimes."

The program was disclosed this week by Bloomberg Businessweek. While Smith stressed multiple times it was not and had never been a secret, city officials declined comment for that report.

Smith said the program was merely a trial conducted locally by Ohio-based Persistent Surveillance Systems, with financial assistance from a private donor. As it wasn't city money being spent, the trial was never put in front of the city Board of Estimates or lawmakers. The contractor's founder, Ross McNutt, was present to take questions at the press conference at well.

BALTIMORE - The Baltimore Police Department has secretly deployed a surveillance system using planes and powerful cameras that can continuously record 30-square-mile sections of the city at once, according to Bloomberg News.

The technology, which is run by a private company, was originally developed for the Defense Department for use in Iraq. It stores the video footage for an undetermined amount of time, and police can use it to retroactively track any pedestrian or vehicle within the surveillance area.

David Rocah, senior staff attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland, had this reaction:

"The fact that the BPD has been engaged in a secret program of mass surveillance is both incomprehensible and unacceptable. It is even more astounding that this could be done during a Justice Department investigation into the BPD that found pervasive racial bias and lack of accountability.

"The surveillance program itself is a privacy nightmare come to life and precisely what we have warned against for years. It's the equivalent of requiring each of us to wear a GPS tracker whenever we leave our homes, something that would never be tolerated in the physical world.

"This is yet another example of battlefield technology moving to domestic law enforcement without public scrutiny - but Baltimore is not a battlefield, and its residents are not the enemy. The BPD should immediately discontinue its use of the technology, and the City Council should immediately hold hearings to prevent it from ever being adopted. The council should also require public input before any new surveillance technologies are deployed."

AP: Many Donors to Clinton Foundation Met with Hillary at State

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 09:23 AM PDT

WASHINGTON (AP) — More than half the people outside the government who met with Hillary Clinton while she was secretary of state gave money — either personally or through companies or groups — to the Clinton Foundation. It's an extraordinary proportion indicating her possible ethics challenges if elected president.

At least 85 of 154 people from private interests who met or had phone conversations scheduled with Clinton while she led the State Department donated to her family charity or pledged commitments to its international programs, according to a review of State Department calendars released so far to The Associated Press. Combined, the 85 donors contributed as much as $156 million. At least 40 donated more than $100,000 each, and 20 gave more than $1 million.

Donors who were granted time with Clinton included an internationally known economist who asked for her help as the Bangladesh government pressured him to resign from a nonprofit bank he ran; a Wall Street executive who sought Clinton's help with a visa problem and Estee Lauder executives who were listed as meeting with Clinton while her department worked with the firm's corporate charity to counter gender-based violence in South Africa.

Obama to Skip Clinton Global Initiative Meeting

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 09:07 AM PDT

Edward-Isaac Dovere writes in Politico that President Obama is eschewing any appearance at the final annual meeting of the scandal-plagued Clinton Global Initiative.

The Clinton Global Initiative is shutting down, but President Barack Obama won't be there to say farewell.

Though Obama will be in New York the week in mid-September, he's skipping an appearance at the annual— and final — meeting of Bill Clinton's post-presidential project, which brought together business and world leaders for the last 12 years. Obama attended for either a speech or other event every year for the first six of his presidency until 2015, following the launch of Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.

Clinton’s pathetic ‘Colin Powell made me do it’ defense

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 09:00 AM PDT

The influence that Colin Powell has over Hillary Clinton is something to behold.

His word is her command. When he tells her to break the law and endanger the nation's secrets, she doesn't hesitate. She salutes smartly and does as she is told.

Clinton has been desperate for the moral cover of Colin Powell for her email arrangement since the scandal first broke last year. Now we've learned that Clinton told the FBI that Powell advised her to use private email as secretary of state at a dinner in 2009. This escalates Clinton's email defense from, "Hey, Colin Powell did it, too," all the way to, "Colin Powell made me do it."
The Powell defense has given Clinton shills something to say on TV, but doesn't make much sense.

6 scenarios self-driving cars still can't handle

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 08:53 AM PDT

When a Tesla Model S was involved in the first fatal crash while Autopilot was activated, Tesla wrote in a blog post that the Autopilot system did not notice "the white side of the tractor trailer against a brightly lit sky, so the brake was not applied."

The fatal accident is still under investigation by government regulators, but that one sentence doesn't bode too well for Tesla. It shows that despite how far autonomous technology has come, there are still some situations that are better handled by human drivers.

That's not to say human drivers are perfect — more than 37,000 people die in the US each year from car crashes, according to the Association for Safe International Road Travel. As many companies working on driverless cars have noted, having autonomous vehicles on the road could drastically reduce that number.

But for that to happen, driverless cars still need to improve in some key areas.

Obama pledges to help Louisiana 'even after the cameras leave'

President Obama predicted Tuesday that "resilient" Louisianans would rebuild their flood-ravaged communities with the help of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and other help from around the country, "even after the TV cameras leave."

"I know how resilient the people of Louisiana are and that you will build again, and what I've seen today proves it," he said.

During his brief remarks after touring the state's battered capital, Baton Rouge, Obama also gave credit to FEMA Director Craig Fugate, who is "someone I can't brag about enough, one of the best hires I made as president."

Sears is running out of money — and will likely shut down stores as a result

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 08:37 AM PDT

Sears is running out of money.

The company's cash and equivalents have fallen to $276 million from $1.8 billion one year ago, Sears said Thursday.

As a result, the retailer was forced to accept $300 million in financing from Sears CEO Eddie Lampert's hedge fund, ESL Investments.

Sears is losing cash as sales plunge at its namesake and Kmart stores.

Net sales fell 8.8% to $5.7 billion in the second quarter. Same-store sales plunged 7% at Sears stores and dropped 3.3% at Kmart stores.

Maryland Medical marijuana panel releases applicant rankings

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 08:30 AM PDT

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland's medical marijuana commission has released how top applicants ranked to grow and dispense marijuana in the state.

The rankings released Wednesday show that Holistic Industries in Prince George's County and Shore Naturals in Worcester County initially didn't make it into the top 15 now in line to be licensed to grow marijuana. But they were moved up into the top 15 in order to meet geographic representation outlined in the law.

Maryland Cultivation and Processing in Frederick County and GTI Maryland in Washington County were two applicants that originally placed in the top 15, but were bumped back to spots 16 and 17.

The top 15 will go through background checks. If any of them do not get licensed, applicants next in line in the rankings will be considered.

Here is how top applicants ranked to become medical marijuana growers and processors in Maryland.

Target Boycott - Costing More than Anyone Expected

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 08:23 AM PDT

A boycott against Target over its bathroom policy is costing the retailer more than anyone expected.

The boycott started in April after Target announced that it would welcome transgender customersto use any bathroom or fitting room that matched their gender identity.

The announcement triggered an immediate backlash. Critics said that the policy opened the door for sexual predators to victimize women and children inside the retailer's bathrooms, and more than 1.4 million people signed a pledge to stop shopping at Target unless it reversed the policy.

But Target didn't back down.

Now shopper traffic is declining for the first time in years, and the company is installing single-occupancy bathrooms in all of its stores to give critics of the policy more privacy. The new bathrooms, which already exist in a majority of Target stores, are costing Target $20 million to install, Fortune reports.

"Of course, there probably are people interested in speculating on this matter who have been doing this for the last several years," Kucherena told RIA Novosti.

Smoking-gun evidence that union bosses run New York

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 08:07 AM PDT

Many New Yorkers don't like how Mayor Bill de Blasio runs the city — but he's not really the one calling the shots: Unions are.

That became crystal clear from emails and documents City Comptroller Scott Stringer released this week linked to the city's decision to lift deed restrictions from the Rivington House nursing home.

When a top de Blasio staffer asked "how critical" the decision was, the reply from an aide, Sarah Samis, was telling: "Very critical b/c it involves 1199 jobs and they want this done," said the email, in a reference to the health care workers union, 1199SEIU.
In the end, the jobs went poof anyway, because the city wound up lifting too many restrictions, and the site was sold for luxury housing. That triggered several probes, including Stringer's.

Clinton campaign says foundation won't 'close up shop'

A spokesman for Hillary Clinton's campaign pushed back Tuesday on criticisms of the Clinton Foundation, arguing the controversial charity will not "completely close up shop" should Clinton win the election in November.

Brian Fallon, a spokesman for the Clinton campaign, said the pledge to curb foreign and corporate donations to the foundation will provide adequate cover for Clinton in the event she becomes president.

"It is no small feat to even entertain these kinds of changes," Fallon said during an appearance on MSNBC. "It is not something they want to completely close up shop."

Trump 'Calm, Focused, Determined' as Protesters Try to Disrupt Texas Rally

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 07:53 AM PDT

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump stayed "calm, focused, and determined" as protesters repeatedly tried to disrupt a rally held in Austin, Texas, Tuesday night, one state official said. Protesters appeared to be acting in desperation.

Trump returned to Texas to drive home his message on one of his foundational issues — border security. He picked Texas' most liberal city and spoke to a crowd of more than 7,000 people. Trump used the venue of the city that prides itself to "Keep Austin Weird" and delivered a passionate but fact-filled, issue-oriented speech about illegal immigration, border security, crime, trade, and agriculture as a matter of national security.

Texas State Senator Paul Bettencourt (R-Houston) spoke with Breitbart Texas late Tuesday night following Trump's rally. From his vantage point of sitting right behind Mr. Trump, Bettencourt said there was a lot of chaos going on during the candidate's speech.

Soros Emerges As Mastermind Behind Plan To "Enlarge Electorate By At Least 10 Million Voters"

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 07:45 AM PDT

Ever wonder who is behind all the lawsuits filed to overturn state voter ID laws? Those lawsuits are very expensive, after all, racking up 1,000's of billable hours from some very high-end law firms. Well, courtesy of the 2,500 documents recently released by DC Leaks, we now know that George Soros is funding the legal fees as part of his stated goal to "enlarge [the U.S.] electorate by at least 10 million voters" by 2018.

The specifics of the plan were discussed at the May 2014 board meeting of the "Open Society Foundations" a liberal grant-making group founded by Soros (the full 222-page presentation from the board meeting can be found at the end of this post). The Society's first goal under its "Proposed Strategic Framework 2015-2018" was to "strengthen the quality of American democracy through greater inclusion, participation & accountability." Under the goal, the Society's top objective was to:

Enlarge [the U.S.] electorate by at least 10 million voters through modernization of voter registration systems, and through expanded constitutional/legislative protections

As context for their mission to expand the electorate, the Open Society warned that "American democracy is threatened" by, among other things, "undue influence of wealthy interests." Isn't it ironic that an organization funded by George Soros would be worried about the "undue influence of wealthy interests" on the American political system?

Secret Fed Minutes "Revealed"

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 07:37 AM PDT

This week, The Federal Reserve released the minutes from its July meeting a few weeks ago in which they decided to NOT raise interest rates.

These minutes are the official archive of the meeting, providing details about the presentations, debates, and discussions that took place.

They contain very formal sounding language, referring to their near-zero interest rates as "accommodation" in the same way that my high school health teacher preferred to use the more clinical term "copulation" instead of "sex".

As an example, the most recent Fed minutes state:

"members agreed to indicate that they would continue to closely monitor global economic and financial developments."

What in the world does that even mean?

I really get so tired of their forked-tongue garbage.

Interest rates are at 5,000 year lows. There are now 500 MILLION people around the world, in fact, living under NEGATIVE interest rates.

Question: Should middle-schoolers be forced to walk up to 1.5 miles to school?

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 07:30 AM PDT

SILVER SPRING, Md. (ABC7) — A group of passionate parents is attempting to poke holes in a Montgomery County Public Schools policy, which denies bus service to certain students.

The policy states that elementary students living less than one mile from school grounds will not get bussed to-or-from class. The distance threshold is set at one-and-a-half miles for middle schoolers, and two miles for high schoolers.

Madiaw Diop and his wife have three children in the MCPS system. They live in a basic apartment complex along Glenville Road, approximately one mile from Eastern Middle School in Silver Spring.

The walk to EMS, which includes crossing busy University Boulevard East, takes roughly 20 minutes door-to-door. In addition to time, Diop says frigid temperatures, oppressive heat, rain and unshoveled sidewalks make the daily trek dangerous.

Hacked: Soros worked to prevent documentation of illegals

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 07:15 AM PDT

The philanthropic Open Society Foundations run by George Soros sought in 2010 to foster an alliance between civil liberty advocates and proponents of illegal immigration in order to block comprehensive immigration reform, and language that would have required closer tracking of immigrants, hacked documents reveal.

The move was made after an off-the-record meeting in November 2009 between representatives of Soros' organization and groups that included the American Civil Liberties Union, the Human Rights Campaign, the National Immigration Law Center, and the libertarian Cato Institute.

According to a memorandum addressed to Soros and leaked online, the organizations represented a partnership between those who support large immigration flows, and civil rights advocates who were interested in preventing the passage of comprehensive immigration reform legislation that would legalize at least 11 million undocumented workers, but would also require them and up to 140 million American citizens to participate in a biometric database for tracking fingerprints.

"Our goal was to ensure that the privacy rights community and the immigrant rights community, two groups that receive significant support from [Soros] but rarely interface with one another, share information and strategies to avoid the loss of privacy and risk to information security," the memo stated.

Here’s how cozy State Department was with Clinton Foundation

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 06:53 AM PDT

A senior executive at the Clinton Foundation left nearly 150 messages for one of Hillary Clinton's top aides at the State Department over a two-year period, according to newly released call logs.

The Clinton Foundation's chief operating officer, Laura Graham, kept in close touch with Cheryl Mills, one of Clinton's closest aides when she was secretary of state, according to the logs analyzed by Fox News.

An August 2011 message the Clinton Foundation official left for the government worker references "our boss," suggesting both women worked for the same person.

A January 2012 message shows the foundation worker wanting to talk with Mills before speaking to President Clinton. "Please call. WJC is looking for her [Graham] and she wants to talk to you before she talks to him."

Hillary assures voters she's done nothing wrong and won't do it again

Hillary Clinton, after learning there is a chance that hackers could release potentially embarrassing Clinton Foundation emails before the November elections, has announced that if she is elected president the foundationwill no longer accept the foreign and corporate donations that have convinced all but her most loyal sycophants that she may well have been peddling influence to the highest bidder as secretary of state.

It is as if Willie Sutton, after robbing enough banks to ensure a comfortable retirement, had announced that bankers and their depositors could stop worrying because he would stop if given the key to the city.

An apology and a promise to go straight in the future does not excuse one's past transgressions, even if such a promise might influence a parole board to give a criminal who has served a good portion of his or her sentence an early release and a second chance. Mrs. Clinton, for her part, apologizes for nothing, but is now promising to stop doing something that she has always defended as legitimate and above board.

Md. school district: Don’t tell parents if transgender males bunk with daughters

A Maryland school district is instructing teachers and administrators not to tell parents if their daughters are bunking with male students who identify as girls on overnight field trips.

Bob Mosier, chief communications officer for Anne Arundel County Public Schools, says in a training video detailing how to accommodate transgender students that privacy issues regarding the student prevent the district from informing parents about such arrangements.

"So, many of you might be asking yourselves, 'So I'm at an overnight field trip, and I have student who's biologically a male, identifies as a female, and we've worked with that student and her family, and that student wants to sleep in the dorms, or whatever sleeping arrangements are, with the females,'" Mr. Mosier says in a video of the training session. "They don't want to sleep in a room by themselves; they want to sleep with the rest of the females. So what do we do?

Donald Trump drives agenda while Hillary Clinton hides behind jokes

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 06:23 AM PDT

Never in modern American political history has a more issue-oriented, serious candidate for president faced off against a more dishonest, platform-less, self-absorbed celebrity who is cashing in on ill-gotten wealth and fame despite serious concerns about mental and physical health.

The man all about issues, of course, is real estate developer Donald Trump. From the day he announced for the presidency, Mr. Trump has set the agenda.

In the primary, establishment Republicans would have been perfectly happy to just talk about proper politician temperament and nibbling around the edges of arcane education policy. Who has the best hair and most diverse looking families. Whose name sound the most Hispanic.

Mr. Trump crashed that party and declared that the primary would not be just another beauty pageant. It would be about securing the border to stop illegal immigration, tracking down and killing terrorists before they get into the United States and jump-starting the domestic economy.

New revelations show a nation for sale under Hillary Clinton

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 06:15 AM PDT

The Democratic Party often warns us that mixing big money and politics will corrupt democracy. They must have nominated Hillary Clinton to prove it.

The Clinton Foundation was ostensibly set up to solve the world's most pressing problems. Though it's done some fine work, its most fruitful program has been leveraging Clinton's position in the State Department to enrich her family, friends and cronies.

It's against federal law for charities to act in the interests of private business or individuals. Yet the Clinton Foundation secured high-paying gigs for its namesakes and helped for-profit corporations with family ties set up lucrative deals.
As it turns out, that's probably the least corrupt part of the story.

Hillary Clinton & Huma Abedin: Many Troubling Questions, Influence Peddling, Corruption

Huma Abedin must be a remarkable woman: She has held down four of the worst jobs in politics, several of them simultaneously: right hand to Hillary Rodham Clinton, fixer and patron-patronizer for the Clinton Foundation, an editor of a journal spawned by a major al-Qaeda financier, and wife to Anthony Weiner. Mrs. Carlos Danger has some explaining to do.

So does Mrs. Clinton. More, in fact. Mrs. Clinton plainly has lied about her e-mails, repeatedly, and then lied about lying about them. The new e-mails released in response to ongoing litigation from Judicial Watch include 20 previously unseen exchanges between Mrs. Clinton and her chief aide, Ms. Abedin, which now brings the total number of official, work-related e-mails Mrs. Clinton failed to turn over to investigators to just shy of 200 — so much for those claims that these were private communications about yoga classes and Chelsea's wedding plans.

Commentary: The (likely) real story behind Colin Powell’s email advice to Hillary Clinton

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 06:00 AM PDT

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell blamed Hillary Clinton for "trying to pin" her email scandal on him.

Earlier last week, the New York Times, citing FBI notes from an interview with Hillary Clinton and an upcoming book, reported during a dinner conversation in 2009, Powell advised Clinton to use a personal email account as an efficient way to communicate. Powell says he has no recollection of the conversation, though he did write Clinton an email after she started using her private email server, describing his limited use of a personal AOL email account.

The media on this story missed the context, and simply played it as a he said-she said piece. Here's the likely full story.

The Full Story

What was almost certainly in the email Powell sent Clinton was the story of his successful efforts to drag the State Department into the modern age. I worked for State during that period of time, and watched it happen.

When the rest of the world was working on PCs and using then-modern software in their offices, State clung to an old, clunky mainframe system made by the now-defunct company WANG. WANG's version of a word processor was only a basic text editor with no font or formatting tools. Spell check was an option many locations did not have installed. IBM had bid on a contract to move State to PCs in 1990, but was rejected in favor of a renewal of the WANG mainframes.

Wikileaks E-Mails: Hillary Looked Into Parkinson's Drug After Suffering From "Decision Fatigue"

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 05:30 AM PDT

"Wow that is spooky descriptive," wrote Clinton

Emails released by Wikileaks show that Hillary Clinton looked into a drug used to treat sleepiness and Parkinson's disease after she apparently began suffering from "decision fatigue" back in 2011.

Clinton sent an email to close confidante and advisor Cheryl D. Mills on August 19, 2011 featuring the text of an article entitled Do You Suffer From Decision Fatigue?

The article talks about how people in positions of power and influence can suffer from "decision fatigue" that causes them to be "low on mental energy" and prompts the sufferer to "become reckless" and "act impulsively".

The article also explains how "decision fatigue" could explain why "ordinarily sensible people get angry at colleagues," which is possibly a nod to Clinton's infamous temper tantrums that have left her staffers in tears.

Cardin, Mikulski Relay Employees’ Shock, Request Urgent Hearings on Major Cost Increases for Long-Term Care Insurance for Federal Workers

Posted: 25 Aug 2016 04:30 AM PDT

Senators write that OPM either fell victim to classic bait-and-switch or simply "got it wrong"

BALTIMORE – U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Barbara A. Mikulski (both D-Md.) have written to the leadership of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to convey the shock and anger of federal employees who have been informed of a dramatic increase in their premiums for the Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program. The senators also called on the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs to hold hearings on the issues as soon as Congress returns to session in early September. Senators Cardin and Mikulski wrote:

"We were flabbergasted to learn that Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program (FLTCIP) premiums will increase by 83 percent, on average, and by as much as 126 percent for some individuals, in November. Federal annuitants and employees pay the full cost of the premiums. Many of them are on fixed incomes or coming off a three-year pay freeze and substandard pay raises since then. They are being asked to pay an additional $111 per month, on average. This is unacceptable, and so are the alternatives: a reduction in coverage to keep premiums at their current level, taking a 'contingent benefit upon lapse' for those who are eligible, or dropping coverage altogether.

" … How could professional actuaries, financial advisors, risk managers, and other experts be so wrong? We are left to wonder whether the issuer, which has no competition, has engaged in a sort of classic 'bait-and switch' by luring customers with what appears to be affordable coverage and then jacking up the premiums. In either instance, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has failed to meet its oversight responsibility.

" … Premium increases of this magnitude threaten the health, well-being, and retirement security of thousands of hard-working current and former federal employees. And the justifiably negative press coverage of the premium increases probably will dissuade prospective customers from buying coverage, which will exacerbate so-called 'adverse selection.'

"As you may know, a similar situation occurred in 2009 when the last long-term insurance contract was negotiated, and premiums increased by up to twenty-five percent. The U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs' Subcommittee on the Federal Workforce and the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging held a joint hearing on the increase, and found that OPM 'got it wrong.'

"OPM has once again gotten it wrong, at the expense of our constituents who will now face either increased premiums or decreased service."

Full text of the letters can be found here for OPM and here for HSGAC.

Mylan Execs Gave Themselves Raises As They Hiked EpiPen Prices

EpiPen prices aren't the only thing to jump at Mylan. Executive salaries have also seen a stratospheric uptick.

Proxy filings show that from 2007 to 2015, Mylan CEO Heather Bresch's total compensation went from $2,453,456 to $18,931,068, a 671 percent increase. During the same period, the company raised EpiPen prices, with the average wholesale price going from $56.64 to $317.82, a 461 percent increase, according to data provided by Connecture.

In 2007 the company bought the rights to EpiPen, a device used to provide emergency epinephrine to stop a potentially fatal allergic reaction and began raising its price. In 2008 and 2009, Mylan raised the price by 5 percent. At the end of 2009 it tried out a 19 percent hike. The years 2010-2013 saw a succession of 10 percent price hikes.
